Just a word of advice to the Ohio Police Department and County, but it is illegal for Law Enforcement to restrain someone with mental illness per the American with Disabilities Act. They can only be restrained under the guidance of a licensed psychiatrist or mental health counselor. Seeing that woman in handcuffs and treated like a common criminal is disgusting and I hope she sues the County.

Regarding the lottery hoax:
The woman was not in her right mind, clear enough. The real guilt lies in the savages who expected something for nothing, and then ransacked the store when they didn’t get their way. If they had even below average intelligence they would have asked “What’s the catch?” Unfortunately, a whole class of our society has been conditioned to expect handouts, and to grow restive when they aren’t forthcoming.

I feel bad for the workers in the store more than anything else. People act like animals and do not understand that someone must clean up after them. I bet those employees worked all night, employees with families and maybe some students that need their rest and time studying. In the end the company had to give extra hours to this store to clean up after these people that caused such a mess, which ended up hurting the company more than anything. Stores are on tight budgets right now, especially with hours, and all of the fools that went in there and threw their hissy fits because they have to actually work for what they want, made matters worse all around. Dear RobbieK, I think you need to re-read the ADA. Police can arrest those
that are suspected of a crime even if they have mental problems. They can
be handcuffed, like any other suspect, booked like any other suspect and
jailed just like any other suspect. If a court find the subject to be
mentally incompetant to the point of being able to assist in their own defense
the court can order treatment prior to any trial or have the person committed.

Robbie it is clear that you don’t have a law degree. I do and I do not know of any state in which the police are authorized to determine if someone has mental illness. I won’t claim to know the law in all states but in all that I am familiar with, the determination of mental disability can only be made by a court after evaluation by a physician. Additionally, anyone, even one with mental illness, may be restrained by the police if the person commits a crime.
