WH Economic Adviser: ‘Important’ to Look Past Next Jobless Numbers Due to Blizzards

"The blizzards that affected much of the country during the last month are likely to distort the statistics. And in past blizzards, those statistics have been distorted by 100,000 to 200,000 jobs."

So essentially what you’re saying Larry, is that “Climate Change” is responsible for unemployment. Now that’s a spin we haven’t heard before! http://www.thefedupamerican.com

Thor   March 2nd, 2010 - 1:41 am

What an Administration. They’re ahead of the bad news on the horizon. Next excuse: The dogs peed on the teleprompter.

FastFacts   March 2nd, 2010 - 2:01 am

Just more excuses. They tried to hide the numbers by changing the process to count, like Clinton was investigated. Summers is a hack that both those on the left and right want his resignation. He has helped or guided Obama into destroying the economy and hurting America. Why is anyone even listening to what he has to say.

Truth has been turned upside down. Common sense has become uncommon sense. Any and all truth has been turned into a lie.

M. Scott Peck wrote long ago in The Road Less Traveled, “seek reality at all costs”.

Prudent words to live by in these times.

Amazing Wash-WIZARDRY   March 2nd, 2010 - 4:10 am

“Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!”

To Thor: Maybe it was “TOTO” too!
LOL.

If democrats told the truth, no body would vote for them.

& If they talked about their policy, they would be thrown out on their ars.

I'm Gumby damn it!   March 2nd, 2010 - 7:23 am

Unemployment is the result of three decades of insane policies that sent the creation of wealth overseas.

One creates wealth by mining it, growing it, or manufacturing it.

When the machine that drives creation is gone, one is left with services that merely redistribute the wealth remaining.

Add in a little fraud and theft from the Banksters and the CON-gress and soon the populace is left with nothing.

The downward spiral will continue until only a few elites control all the remaining wealth and the people are serfs.

Weather has nothing to do with it.

Do you mean to tell me that a $787B stimulus couldn’t offset the inconvenience of a snowstorm? Let’s take the high side – 200,000 affected by the snow. February is a 20 working day month – that’s 160 working hours. Let’s say the average job pays $50,000 per year for 2080 working hours per year. That’s about $24 per hour.
So the average wage for Feb is 160*$24=$3,840. Multiply that by 200,000 and we have $768M.
$768M is less that .1% (one tenth of 1 percent) of the overall stimulus package.

Mr Summers, where is the problem?

Whitehouse advisor   March 2nd, 2010 - 11:43 am

and it also caused us to have to modify our global warming script, but not to worry, hope and change is on plan, and Utopia is finally within our grasp.
