‘We See the Signs’: Arizona Considers Plan to Opt Out of Federal Health Care
Examiner: The Arizona Legislature has introduced an HC2014, an initiative if passed, would amend the state constitution so that no resident would be required to participate in any public health care option. The initiative will be on the ballot in November 2010.

People are in for a surprise when the Federal healthcare stuff happens. It will be the same as what happens now with most companies when you turn 65. My company sent me a letter telling me I am required to enroll in Federal Medicare and the company insurance would then only pay as a secondary insurance, not to be confused with a Medicare suppliment that pays everything Medicare does not pay.
So in effect we are kicked off the company insurance program BECAUSE there is a Federal program. They are not going to pay for insurance that the gov’t is mandated to cover unless the law requires them to. Why should they. If you had a choice to pay it out of your pocket or have it paid for by the gov’t, you would have it paid by the gov’t.

I think a federal health care plan is the perfect way to break the insurance companies monopoly over health care costs to the consumer. Of course their against it. Go figure.
onarantJuly 1st, 2009 - 2:29 pm
Who in their right mind wants the government involved in the management of their health-care?
Give me a break.
The single biggest fix for health-care is tort reform.

I think a federal health care plan is the perfect way to break the insurance companies monopoly over health care costs to the consumer”
First. Why take away a “monopoly” from private insurance companies that are MANDATED by the govt to provide coverage for expensive treatments for conditions that are rare and hit a few(in other words insurance is expensive because gov’t made it so), and then turn around and give that “monopoly” to the gov’t that has not run one successful, cost effective govt program, and in fact, cause the high cost of insurance in the first place.
Second. Some big insurance companies are supporting this and more are getting on board each day. Read the news.
Third. If you think this will make it free or cheap, dream on. It will cost you in higher prices for goods and services, and most damagingly in taxes. If big companies are heavily taxed for this, who do they pass the costs on too? YOU.
I can “change” Insurance companies anytime I want to. I can’t “change” government on my own. Wonder if states could “nationalize lawyers” who deal in medical malpractice, mmmmm chase all the John Edwards to blue states and draw all the doctors and nurses into free states.

Mass spending (as represented by Obama’s drive for a new health plan)failed 60 years ago, it failed 30 years and it will fail again.
There’s a political cartoon from the October 1934 Chicago Tribune showing the then US Treasury chief Wallace under FDR shoveling money off the back of a wagon pulled by a donkey with what was then called “pinkos” from Harvard. On the left side of the road was a caricature of Lenin painting a sign “SPEND, SPEND, SPEND…We’ll change the government later!” And on the opposite far horizon there is a caricature of Stalin with the thought emanating from him that “as I look towards the horizon, it is getting redder and redder!”
With all of Wallace’s spending he finally owned up to FDR later that it had little to no effect on improving the conditions of the Depression.

America…I think Arizona is on to something here!
If they do this, I will consider moving to Arizona and so will others. That will give them a boon in housing and state income, etc!
Sounds like a plan…do it!
Michelle KJuly 1st, 2009 - 3:46 pm
Three Cheers for Arizona!!!! Let’s just hope that McCain will back them and not decide to champion the cause of health care nanny state!
AJJuly 1st, 2009 - 4:12 pm
“Unfortunately every Democrat voted against it.”
Hmmm, funny how the “pro-choice” party votes against a bill that gives a choice. Maybe they didn’t get the memo that choice and force are mutally exclusive.
DonJuly 1st, 2009 - 4:13 pm
This will change nothing. Do you imbeciles really think the Democrats will abolish private health care? You will simply have a choice between private and government. I fail to see any difference between what has been proposed and what Arizona is placing on their ballots.
Democrats: You can chose between the two.
Arizona: It’s our right to chose between the two!
The only way a state would be able to prevent government run health care would be to pass a law requiring companies to offer private health insurance. That won’t happen as it would kill small companies who can’t offer insurance in the first place.

If obama is so concerned about people getting what they want…why is he so worried about States rights? He knows that nobody with a brain is going to want his obamacare…so he has to force it on us! And this crap about “giving Americans another option” and “you will still be able to keep your current health care” is insane! You have to be an idiot to believe that. The government regulates and the government never has to worry about a profit margin! They can do anything they want and no private company that isn’t in bed with them will survive! This is like watching a basketball game where one team is also the refs….guess who is going to get all the calls going their way! Wake up America…before it’s too late.
YanosJuly 1st, 2009 - 4:22 pm
Of course you know the Unborn One wants to include illegal Mex and other illegal aliens under the coverage. If the gov’t Medicare and Social Security programs are going broke now how do they think they will run nationalized medicine at break-even with even more people covered than Medicare. The answer is simple – with a national sales tax like England and other European countries have that runs about 17% or more on top of income taxes.
TGCJuly 1st, 2009 - 4:25 pm
Don: yeah…like the president of the united states would NEVER fire the CEO of a car company. And the president would NEVER let an organization that is under investigation like ACORN have control of the census. And the president would NEVER push for a cap and trade bill that will raise the energy costs of every single american in the country!
You need to get a clue! This has nothing to do with insurance…this has everything to do with the obama power grab!
Eileen for Freedom/LibertyJuly 1st, 2009 - 4:30 pm
America…don’t wait to call your Senators and tell them how you feel about…DO IT NOW AND DON’T STOP…DO IT EVERYDAY:
1. Healthcare – NO!
2. Cap and Trade – NO!
3. Legalizing illegal immigrants already here – NO!
4. Tell them to ask for his “original” birth certificate
5. NO MORE OF ANYTHING!
America…Michael Jackson is a good analogy of our present government.
Has loads and loads of money…able to generate loads and loads of money…but spent it like water…leaving him, and us, deeply, deeply in debt with no way to pay all the bills that are, or have, piled up!
What happened to Michael Jackson? He died under the load of such a burden and so will America!
We cannot afford to let that happen. Our parents and grandparents fought many adversities to provide for us the freedoms and liberties we have enjoyed “in the past”! Are we going to do any less for our children and grandchildren?
You must fight on. We must fight this government! We must never, ever give up on trying to do right.
Start today…America…and call your Senators and tell them about the above items and how you feel.
Call EVERYDAY until the final vote in the Senate on cap and trade. Rock their phone lines every single day and tell them how you feel.
Don’t let up…our lives depend on it!
DO NOT CALL A GENERAL NUMBER…CALL THEIR WASHINGTON AND/OR LOCAL OFFICES ONLY!
1. usa.gov
2. At top…site index
3. At left…federal government
4. In middle…legislative branch
5. Senators on the web
6. Call their office listed under their name and/or email them
PASS THIS ALONG TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS…WE NEED TO GET THIS BALL ROLLING AND GET THIS JOB DONE TO SHUT DOWN THIS ADMINISTRATION AND IT’S POLICIES AND PROGRAMS!!!!!!
AMERICA…WE WILL BE VICTORIOUS IF WE ALL BIND TOGETHER IN A SOLEMN OATH TO SEE AMERICA RESTORED AND TAKEN FROM THIS SOCIALIST/COMMUNISTIC DICTATOR…BILDERBERG BUSH-OBA

Finally .. can this be the Beginning of States DEmading aConstitutional Convention and unmask the Usurper to the THrone?????
ZonyJuly 1st, 2009 - 4:37 pm
One thing great about Arizona (and Washington!) is Article 2 Section 2 of it’s constitution, which lays out the purpose of government. “The purpose of government is to protect and maintain individual rights.” Unlike other states, Arizona has no “common good” language. Basically, in Arizona, the purpose of government is to stay the hell out of the way. Very libertarian concept.
DanielaJuly 1st, 2009 - 4:40 pm
Don,
a government option will kill private business and this is why: Insurance companies that chose to take part in the government option will be getting subsidies from the government. They will have the government shelling out money to them so making a profit won’t be an issue. They can charge $200 for something that the private insurers need to charge $300 to make a profit. After a while the private insurers will realize that their profits are getting smaller and smaller, they will start restricting the type of options their customers can get, and eventually those private companies will join the public option in order to get Federal funds! It’s simple business sense. The government doesn’t need to make a profit, they can shell out money until kingdom come, but private companies NEED a profit. In order to save their tails they will have to join the public option if they don’t want to become bankrupt.
It isn’t SIMPLY a choice between government and private, like you say. At first it might seem that way, but you can’t “compete” with the government. the Private insurers will become part of the Government option once they realize their businesses are failing.
Amazing, six months in office, and Obama and his Democratic Congress have already sown the seeds of a Revolution. Uh, People, if you check your history books, you’ll find out that no empire or nation in history has been “too big to fail”. I got an idea, let the liberals have the states without oil, natural gas or coal, because they don’t believe in using those nasty things, and we’ll let them have all the illegal aliens, because they’re such an economic benefit.
She sure sounds more like an American than Obama, doesn’t she?
CKJuly 1st, 2009 - 5:13 pm
Want to see how the gov’t runs health care now? Just take a look at the Veterans Administration. Long delays for appointments, inadequate testing, sub-standard care, etc. etc. This is absolutely the WRONG way to deal with health care. Appropriate treatment needs to be available on a TIMELY (and there’s the point) basis. Change the system we have by more gov’t interference and it will break. Look at how many hospitals have already closed because they have been forced to take in uninsured ILLEGALS. Just look at what nationalized health care has done to the Canadians. They come to the U.S. when they need good care. Take warning before it’s too late and our medicine becomes “third world” quality, and the Government is telling you that you can’t have a treatment that could save your life.
HURRAH FOR ARIZONA!July 1st, 2009 - 5:38 pm
GOOD GOIN’, ARIZONA! More power to you! And while you’re at it, please DO MORE TO SEND THE ILLEGALS BACK, which will do a LOT to help out both our health care options and our nation’s SOLVENCY!
DO NOT BACK DOWN!
Do Not Opt for a FREE CLINIC Approach to Health CareJuly 1st, 2009 - 5:42 pm
You want to sit around in a so-called free clinic the likes of those in the ghettoes across the U.S.?
Didn’t think so! Then SPEAK UP AND OUT AGAINST THIS FOOLHARDY B.S. BEING FOISTED ON THE AMERICAN PUBLIC!

“Dr.” Mary Pat Jordan, your tenacity and stamina are amazing! How you can continue to accord such lavish verbal lap-dances to your socialist idols, day after day, without showing any signs of fatigue or embarrassment, completely boggles the mind.
Notwithstanding the abundance of rational arguments tearing at your credo’s validity, you have, nevertheless, remained pertinacious in your adherence to Marxist dogma. Mary Pat, truly, you are the example–nay! you are the archetype–of what every dogmatist imbiber of Kool-Aid should aspire to be! Do not waver; for there are countless Kool-Aid-drinking minions who look to you continually for support and inspiration!
dr jayJuly 1st, 2009 - 8:19 pm
Woody, thanks for the 50 cent words. extremely well put. the answer of course lies in the DSMIV book on mental disorders, some just don’t burn out that quickly.
I am from AZ. I am not currently living there, but recently purchased a home there. I will leave where I am at at the drop of a hat to go back.
Arizona will have to fight Callifornication, but it has to be fought somewhere.
MissTonyaJuly 2nd, 2009 - 12:01 am
I disagree with you Kitty. NOT EVERYONE will opt to have the government pay for their healthcare. Many people will opt to pay out of pocket if it means a better quality insurance and healthcare/service. Not good to speak in absolutes for EVERYONE. Are you a Democrat or Liberal? Because a lot (emphasis on a lot and not ALL) of Liberals and Dems like to speak in absolutes as if they speak for everyone. A very big misconception on your part. Since when was the government good at running anything. Healthcare is a big monster to take on their own and I don’t have faith or trust in government to dictate my healthcare.
NO WAYJuly 2nd, 2009 - 1:16 am
Hell, the government cannot even run the post office, but they want to muck around with our HEALTH CARE?? NO WAY!
P.S. Woody, thanks, for writing:

AND ANOTHER THING...July 2nd, 2009 - 1:19 am
ANOTHER THING THEY ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT…
If and when this dumb-assed NATIONAL HEALTH CARE crap passes, there will be a *BIG BAD MARKET CRASH* (JUST WHAT WE NEED, EH??).
Don’t those jerks realize HOW MANY INDUSTRIES AND AGENCIES (NOT TO MENTION JOBS) ARE TIED IN WITH HEALTH CARE IN AMERICA??????
LIKE WE DON’T HAVE ENOUGH ECONOMIC DISASTERS GOING ON EVERY DAY!?
JUST SAY NO!
CheckitJuly 2nd, 2009 - 5:47 am
WOOO HOOO! go Arizona!!!!! Other states need to follow Montana, Utah, Texas, Arizona and other states lead, and setup state sovereignty bills to protect their State Citizens from the Federal Left Socialist Government. And for that matter any type of future government that tries to impose powers over the people. The Government HAS FORGOTTEN they are there as OUR SERVANTS! not as our Dictators. GO ARIZONA!!!
We in Arizona are also passing and enforcing immigration laws, unlike our federal government/ John Mccain / Jon Kyl the undocumented illegal aliens best friends. We have a host of anti- big government props for 2010, these props pass with about 68 % of the voters as did the props against undocumented illegal aliens! “Blue states”? Don’t pass undocumented illegal aliens laws and blue states don’t even force them either example CaLifornia
Obama’s government ran health care
75% of the children who will be picked up in this will be non-citizens and that 44% of the uninsured are non-citizens and they can’t possibly allow the American people to know this.”
It was La Raza, the Childrens Defense Fund and Senator Menendez from New Jersey, a representative from his office…
…Yes [they said they would get free health care for illegal aliens], and they said “Latino children need health care more than whites”.And La Raza said if they get this, they don’t even care about amnesty, because they’ve fixed it so that one family member can apply for all extended family members.
FINES FOR THOSE WHO RESIST!??July 3rd, 2009 - 5:15 pm
Did you guys know that there will be a $1000 fine for anyone who refuses to go along with the ENFORCED HEALTH PLAN COVERAGE??? If they’re willing to do that with HEALTH COVERAGE, what is next???? [SHUDDER!!!]
Time for Americans to JUST SAY NO! in a BIG way. Contact your legislators TODAY and insist that THEY too JUST SAY NO!

Another thing to add to your list to tell your Senators about when you call daily…Sotomayer…no to this biased bigot!

Americans, today is a perfect day to reflect on our independence. Today, we are less independent than we have been in our nation’s history. Say “no” to Obama healthcare and meddling in the economy. Say “no” to his lack of strong pro-American foreign policy. Without a strong America, the world now has a free pass to go down the socialist dictatorial rathole that Obama seems to love. He ‘thinks” that this is about justice for brown people. It’s really about limiting everyone’s freedom.
Have you ever heard Obama say the words “Freedom” and “Liberty”? All I ever hear him talk about is “justice”.
Go Arizona. In spite of Kyl and McCain, this state (and Texas) is showing all other states the definition of leadership.
Oh…vote everyone out in 2010 and 2012. Let’s get started fresh. Then vote the next group out when they start listening to lobbyists and environmentalists instead of the people.
