Doesn’t this kind of thing cause global cooling? I remember some years back we had a really cold summer that the experts said was caused by a volcanic eruption on the other side of the world.
We better fine this volcano for using more carbon credits than allowed. The Earth is going to destroy the Earth if it doesn’t stop poluting. This kind of behavior needs to be regulated and controld by congress.
Bush’s fault. Reagan’s fault. Nixon’s fault. Tea Party’s fault.
This is a perfect example of man-made global warming.
We will have to force Iceland to pay for all this carbon. Obama should immediately fly to Iceland and fix things.
This is Obama’s Katrina. He will take care of everything, unlike Bush.
It’s the damn liberals fault. Obama and his traitor staff are to blame. They seeded the volcano I tell you.
As usual, the uneducated on the right has silly comments to make. The fact is that volcanoes do cause temperature change. It is also a fact that we can’t do anything about it. We can, however, do something about the amount of carbon dioxide that we put into the atmosphere by having more fuel efficient vehicles, building alternate forms of energy production other than burning fossil fuels, and trying to convince the rest of the World to do the same. Since we are the most technologically advanced nation in the World, a move toward “green”, less carbon dioxide producing energy source(s) would benefit us more than other nations as well.
You keep complaining about the oil producing nations like Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. It would seem that if we don’t need to buy their oil to burn that we can cut them (and their influence) off. Why wouldn’t you be for that?
The earth just had a great FART !
What i find impressive, Airwick, is that hippies like yourself are the reason why we DON’T have any alternate forms of energy production. Your ideological mates have prevented us from building new nuclear power structures for the last 25 years! For reasons and grounds that were utterly insane! Only now that you’ve realized your wrong do you want to point your hollier-than-thou finger towards the rest of us ugly polluters and cry fowl. Such an uneducated and ill-informed bunch these lefties.
Airwick, can you show a definitive study which demonstrates that, 1)Temperature increases follow C02 increases,
and not
2)C02 increases follow temperature increases.
Sorry, TL, this is not a “rightie-leftie” issue. The objective should be to find good reliable sources of energy without negatively impacting the environment. We need more research and effort to go into that endeavor and the sooner, the better. You mention that my “hippie, ideological mates” are the reason why we “DON’T have any alternate forms of energy” and then give only nuclear energy as an example. Solar, hydroelectric, wind, and geothermal energy are other forms that have long been championed by “lefties”. Nuclear energy is a good alternative to fossil fuels but has several negative aspects to it and one big one in particular. You wouldn’t happen to know what THAT is, would you?
An Algore fart.
In the first place, there is no such thing as a “definitive study” on any subject. In fact, I took issue with those who stated that the science is “settled” regarding Global Warming and that it was “proven”. It is the nature of Science and the Scientific Method that NOTHING is ever “settled”, “proven”, or definitive. What we can do is predict with a high level of certainty what is occurring (or will occur) based on accumulated data, studies, and computer models. It has been demonstrated that certain gases (such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide) create a warming effect on a planet/moon by deflecting infrared radiation (heat) that would normally return to space and instead trap it on the surface. A classic example of this can be seen in the fact that Venus, with a very carbon dioxide rich atmosphere, is hotter than Mercury which is closer to the sun.
Oh, and temperature increases would probably cause some increased production of gaseous carbon dioxide from liquids (ocean) due to Henry’s Law which states that the amount of a given gas dissolved in a given type and volume of liquid is directly proportional to the partial pressure of that gas in equilibrium with that liquid. This, of course only applies at constant temperature. If the temperature increases the Henry Constant will also increase. What this means basically is that gases are generally less soluble in warm water than cold water as is seen when opening a warm can or bottle of soda. It is much more likely to “fizz-over” if it is warm than if it is cold since the carbon dioxide dissolved in it is less soluble at higher temperatures. This does not, however, indicate that the increased carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is due solely to this phenomena but that it may exacerbate the situation. As I mentioned on another site, warming tends to have a cascading effect. This is just another example.
Airwick, you are just too too smart for us. Why you must have an IQ on the positive side of the curve.
Carbon dioxide is not a poison. Only morons believe that. Can you even balance a simple chemical equation? Can you calculate the orbit of the electron in a hydrogen atom using just pencil and paper?
Your body odor and pigtail are a dead giveaway, and that bong you are puffing on does not help.
Clearly you are a brainwashed meron and anyone with any intelligence knows who you are.
I bet you can’t even calculate the 2.1th roots of 2.1 with a pencil and paper.
Oh, that’s right, you never finished school.
That this happening in Europe on the heels of Climategate and an unusually cold winter coupled with the predicted of colder winters to come – seems like mother nature or would that be a universal nature of law has spoken here.
No sun spots for you glow-ball fools!
My particular spot on this globe is experiencing one of the nicest springs I’ve ever seen in this region. Spending days outside in March with the warm of the sun just starting to be felt was astounding, although we could use a little rain other than that it’s prefect. Previuos springs at this time have been on a solid frozen lake cross country skiiing.
You can’t change the weather, climate nor the solar system; people just have to accept that and prepare for reality of this and not some make up crap that suggests lots of our money will fix it.
Two years ago the Alaskan volcano erupted and we had a very damp wet summer last year, very cool, unusually so, constantly overcasted. So this volcanos effects may take two years to subside – folks are going to wish for cheap nuclear energy like never before, just watch.
Back in the 18th century a massively huge volcanic eruption cased the whole globe to cool for two years causing the nothern hemisphere to compeletly skip summer in respects of being able to grow crops.
WOW, talk about the perfect time for invasion.
Guest,
Actually under certain conditions carbon dioxide IS a poison. If you don’t believe me, just ask the members of Apollo 13. Their biggest problem was not the lack of oxygen but the fact that the scrubbers that removed carbon dioxide were thought to be malfunctioning and not operating efficiently enough to assure a safe return. Too much carbon dioxide CAN kill you even in the presence of adequate amounts of oxygen. In fact the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration say that average exposure for healthy adults during an eight-hour work day should not exceed 5,000 ppm (0.5%). The maximum safe level for infants, children, the elderly and individuals with cardio-pulmonary health issues is significantly less. That being said, no one is claiming that we will produce this gas to those toxic levels. What most scientists are saying is that increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will cause retention of infrared radiation from leaving the Earth thereby warming the planet. As I mentioned earlier, this, in turn, can have a cascading effect resulting in such phenomena as an increased release of carbon dioxide from the oceans but, more importantly, could result in an accelerated melting of the permafrost (you know what that is, right?) releasing massive amount of methane, which is an even greater greenhouse gas. This would further warm the planet, thawing more permafrost, releasing more methane, and so forth.
The simple fact is that there are a lot of very good studies that suggest with a high degree of certainty that this may happen. Ignoring it because you don’t like the results or Al Gore is really silly.
And to answer your other questions: Yes, I can balance a chemical equation and no, I can’t calculate the “orbit” of an electron around a hydrogen atom. I CAN describe the probability of finding an electron in a space around hydrogen atom. It is essentially spherical, confined to the 1S space. These probabilites can be calculated using the Schrödinger equation (quantum mechanics) and I confess that I haven’t done this since 1977 so I am a little bit rusty. P-chem was never one of my favorite subjects, either. My major interest was in organic chemistry and biochemistry.
To all the earth worshipers out there…DANG it looks like your God is angry with you! Well, maybe a little human sacrifice can calm her down (government heathcare). Hey, don’t worry..you will surely be spared. NOT!
There are tons of volcanoes out there spreading pollutants into the air across the globe every week. I’m waiting for the Green Police to start staging protests around them.
Obviously this is George Bush`s doing.
