‘Utterly Stupid’: White House Weighs In on Robertson Comments

"It never ceases to amaze that in times of amazing human suffering, somebody says something that could be so utterly stupid, but, it, like clockwork, happens with some regularity."

Just sayin!

Greg Klug   January 14th, 2010 - 2:53 pm

That’s right, Robert……happens every press briefing you host.

beavis-n-BH   January 14th, 2010 - 2:53 pm

stupid is as stupid does – gibby should know stupid well

Talen   January 14th, 2010 - 2:54 pm

For once, I actually agree with him

Lisa B.   January 14th, 2010 - 2:54 pm

Oh, you mean he acted stupidly???

Commieobamie   January 14th, 2010 - 2:54 pm

Gibbs is Completely utterly moron obama stupid.

Climate Scientist   January 14th, 2010 - 2:54 pm

Indeed, everyone knows this incident was caused by global warming. My employer Al Gore did a movie about it. It’s all George Bush’s fault, and his oil buddies. And all of you SUV owners are directly responsible for the deaths of thousands of Haitians. So go out and buy some carbon credits and beg for forgiveness.

john   January 14th, 2010 - 2:56 pm

Why wasn’t it stupid when Jerimiah wright railed against the United States for twenty years of our presidents church attendance…Didn’t seem to bother anyone then…

Kinda like calling the kettle black as I see it…
Pat Robertson seems to be the buzz word for “christian” these days…

I’m an atheist and can see the hatred of christians growing…

Rexter   January 14th, 2010 - 2:59 pm

Almost as stupid as recognizing a group as God’s “Chosen People” or that they have some claim on land because of it.

Gandhi's Fist   January 14th, 2010 - 3:02 pm

This is the voice of experience. Usually Gibbs is on the delivery end of an insipid comment.

shane2813   January 14th, 2010 - 3:07 pm

Gibbs is the head of the stupisssssss. MARXIST=DEMOCRAT=TERRORIST All the same ask Mr. Stupid Gibbs.

Matt   January 14th, 2010 - 3:10 pm

Its funny. With Gibbs it happens all the time. He always says something so utterly stupid.

john   January 14th, 2010 - 3:16 pm

I posted an opinion about Pat Robertson being used as a buzz word for “Christain”

And how there seems to be a growing hatred for Christians in my opinion…

it was deleted…

I think I hit a nerve…

What gives Brietbart…I used no foul language????

None thought Jerimiah wright was stupid when he railed against the USA during Obama’s twenty years in his church…

Why would you delete that statement…

Waffen SS   January 14th, 2010 - 3:17 pm

Was Gibby talking about Reid perhaps? Tell me moron Gibbs why does Reid get a pass, because he’s correct? How do you know Robertson isn’t? Hmmmm????? Why is this WH so full of SH*T!!!!

Shut up Gibbs.

Bill   January 14th, 2010 - 3:28 pm

Christians are the most tolerant and abused people on the planet! If a Muslim had said some similar statement the Large Brain in the house would have hit the tall grass in a New York second. Pat Roberson has created more in good in his lifetime than the Large Brian will ever conceive. Regent University comes to mind,

Tom   January 14th, 2010 - 3:32 pm

Who asked you a$$clown?

Conservative   January 14th, 2010 - 3:35 pm

Even if you don’t like Gibbs and this administration you have to admit that he is right in this case. Robertson is a fool.

Rob   January 14th, 2010 - 3:41 pm

@John, methinks your statement was accurate.

@Rexter, we get it, you hate Jews.

Gibbs is a AzzClown   January 14th, 2010 - 3:43 pm

Robertson’s comments are less damaging than Obama’s deeds.

kmichaels   January 14th, 2010 - 3:45 pm

Gibbs and Obama have stupid pretty much wrapped up.

And I still think it is odd that the name Gibbs is the Irish version of the German name Goebbels. Is that not odd that the Nazi propaganda chief’s name is the same as the Obama propaganda chiefs name? They both mean BOLD as in BOLD FACED LIARS.

SEIG HEIL REXTER!   January 14th, 2010 - 3:46 pm

Pot calling kettle black but Robertson’s comments were completely inane.

Hey Gibbs,
Can you feel the ground trembling under your feet?

jblevins   January 14th, 2010 - 4:16 pm

Truth is still truth even if you think it’s utterly stupid.

NoMoBama   January 14th, 2010 - 4:22 pm

Or perhaps Robertson is right on the money. These are the birth pains….and global warming is a scam. As for Gibbs, the guy is a limp dick.

claspur   January 14th, 2010 - 4:38 pm

ah-hem…. Did Dilbert even complete a sentence-there?(such a Dilbert)

Funny.. as being as untimely a comment as-to what Robertson said;
how does that compare to what Dingy Harry said on the race(skin tone) of Maobummercorn?
Harry even penned His racist comments to paper in a book?
(loved how the Press goaded Dilbert to expound upon His hypocrisy)

I want a chance sometime to kick that doofus right-in His marblebag.

montanarocks   January 14th, 2010 - 4:42 pm

Anyone that is aware of what Operation Blessing, Pat Robertsons’ aid group does, and has been doing for years in Haiti needs to lighten up. If you have ever spent any time in Haiti or visited with the Haitians you would be aware of where his comment (although probably timed wrong) came
from. These people (the ones brave enough to speak of it) will tell you this historical voodoo story. That country will turn your insides upside
down and wrench your guts out to spend time there. Pat Robertson is a kind, humble, God fearing , gracious man. He spoke when emotions were
way too raw with us seeing the devastation and heartache going on in Haiti. Operation Blessing is already down there helping. I do understand where his statement came from. God bless Pat Robertson for helping the Haitian people.

Relax John. Your moronic comment was posted, all of which proves that any idiot slopehead can post his idiot thoughts. I bet you put duct tape on your knuckles to keep them from getting carpet burn.

bulldawg   January 14th, 2010 - 5:31 pm

Stupid, that’s something the Obama administration does every day. Gibbs shouldn’t talk about his daddy that way, that’s very disrespectful. You freakin moron just shut the hell up.

Snakedog   January 14th, 2010 - 5:33 pm

Almost as delusional as Gibbs, and that takes work. Rev.Robertson fits well with Revs. Sharpton, Jackson & Wright.

temple62   January 14th, 2010 - 5:43 pm

Gibbs’ comments, Reid’s comments, Pelosi’s comments and Napolitano’s comments equally STUPID! These jackasses need to understand equality and quit being selective about what to ignore and what to deplore.

Thor   January 14th, 2010 - 5:57 pm

Yes, stupidity does happen with amazing regularity. Look at your press conferences.

Zack   January 14th, 2010 - 6:30 pm

Just don’t blame Christianity for someone’s stupid remarks. Its a myth that never should have been talked about.
He shot himself in the foot when he did this and he should apologize to all that is necessary. Someone fighting
for their freedom should not be condemned and blamed on the devil. Yes some believe in Voodoo but 80% of those
there are Catholics and Christians. So watch what you say, especially now with YouTube.

SOURCE OF UPDATES ON HAITI: http://www.americanparchment.com

kmichaels   January 14th, 2010 - 6:59 pm

Zack still spewing half truths about what was said and not said again I see. Give it a rest Zack, you are complaining about something that did not happen. And voodoo is practiced by over 50% of haitians, dumbass. So that means that most of the so-called haitian catholics are a bit confused about what they believe in.

kmichaels   January 14th, 2010 - 7:01 pm

Idiot leftist news reporter asks this question …

What do you think of Robertson saying the Haitians brought this on themselves.

Pat said no such thing. So my question is what do you think of idiot leftist press that cant get their dumbass facts straight? Plenty of stupidity to go around on this issue.

NCMike   January 14th, 2010 - 7:06 pm

It is simply incredible how people who tolerate, rationalize and excuse, the most outrageous
and vile behavior, are so reflexively and viscerally enraged by words. The failure to transcend
feelings and emotions is a national calamity. With the infantilization of America, the adult
skill of self-control has been lost. By placing “sensitivity” on a pedestal, rational thought
has become the victim. Furthermore, the practice of being “non-judgemental” is applicable only
to those prescribed behaviors, exercised by prescribed people, and does not apply universally
to all. “Protected speech” has become the province of only those on the left while the opinions
of conservatives or Christians particularly, are emotionally and reflexively characterized as
“hate”. As with small children, the lefties appear to possess the magical power to determine
and define motivations and intentions.

Lynn   January 14th, 2010 - 7:16 pm

Acted Stupidly? Like clockwork happens?

a   January 14th, 2010 - 7:22 pm

It’s nice seeing the leadership of America saying this. Finally, we have leaders who truly do speak for all of us in situations just like this. If you say something stupid, just being a deluded religious zealot will not protect you from the wrath of being told right to your face where to go.

On the other hand, Robertson is old and senile and probably does not fully grasp his words or the world around himself anymore. Maybe this will be a wakeup call to CBN that Roberson really does need to be put out to pasture…

anon   January 14th, 2010 - 7:44 pm

Gibbs has the self control of a four year old.

Desiree   January 14th, 2010 - 7:50 pm

Get this straight you dumbazz twitsandtwatts in the obumble administration, YOU ARE
NOT THE KNOW ALL END ALL. Pat Robertson is entitled to his opinion and to express it.
Do you not get the whole concept of freedom of speech. Old big boy gibbs just acted
stupidly. Hey fatboy, why doesn’t your boss stop real human suffering in this country
and turn the water back on in California. Stop protecting the delta smelt and give
the people the water their fields so desperately need. It’s insane what is going on
there. TURN THE WATER BACK ON!!!!!!!!!!! STOP THE SUFFERING IN THIS COUNTRY.

AFreeAmerica   January 14th, 2010 - 7:53 pm

I think Gibbs and his ilk are clueless. When you see Gibbs stand there like he is some kind of voice for reason it is just disgusting.

Gibbs is dishonest and shifty and he is the pinnacle of ignorance.

say what?   January 14th, 2010 - 8:24 pm

utterly stupid?

what robertson said about pact with the devil is historical fact.
that he observed the obvious poverty is in my opinion a fair analysis.

Some of the ignorance here would be laughable if it wasn’t so insensitive.

Pat Robertson should know better,I wouldn’t expect some here to know any better.

This narrative of a curse hanging over Haiti is because of a legend, which holds that in order to win independence from France in 1791, a vodun priest, Dutty Boukman, entered into a pact with the devil. But no historical evidence has been put forth to substantiate this claim. Boukman prayed, and raised a call to arms against the French, yet the pact with the devil part is absent from the original narratives of the story. For Pat Robertson to infer that this legend is why Haiti is cursed, poor, impoverished, and subject to national disasters is the worst kind of demonically fixated, Charismatic-lite ignorance.

This narrative of “curse” is used often to remind any person of color that if you go up against the white man, God is most likely to punish you in perpetuity. A recent example of this narrative of demonic activity was used by Robertson and other so called RELIGIOUS RIGHT LEADERS to explain away what happened in Hurricane Katrina back in 2005.

Btw is this some kind of a joke web site?

Paul F.   January 15th, 2010 - 12:36 pm

Gibbs: “Next Question, yes? You in the back?”
reporter: “just to follow up sir, could you please convey the President’s thoughts of Danny Glover’s statement and I quote: “When we see what we did at the climate summit in Copenhagen, this is the response, this is what happens, you know what I’m sayin’?”
Gibbs: “uh…umm…I’m not aware of….that uhh…that the President…feels…the President believes that Mr. Glover’s comments stand in stark contrast to, to…to the utterly stupid comments of Mr. Robertson’s in that…uhh…in that Robertson referenced a legendary and unsubstantiated pact with the Prince of Darkness as the cause of this tragedy…and uh… Mr. Glover, who by the way the President thought was great in Lethal Weapon…uh that Mr. Gloever merely states the obvious, that if only we HAD signed our lives over to the Princes of Copenhagen, that this tragedy could have quite possibly been avoided. Of course the President sees a difference.

Next question?

H2K   January 15th, 2010 - 2:14 pm

Paul F you beat me to it – but you did it much better, my brotha. I hope we find a video from the past of comment from the white house praising Glover as a humanitarian, but you’ll not any negative comment on this last stupid remark of his.

Greg Zotta   January 15th, 2010 - 6:59 pm

Pat Robertson & Danny Glover on Cause of Haiti Earthquake
Once again when a natural disaster strikes Americans respond with assistance. The American people immediately go into action to help those in need because that is the kind of people we are. The world looks to the USA for our response. President Barack Hussein Obama has pledged 100 million taxpayers dollars for support of Haiti. However, the answer is not to just throw money at it because the USA has been sending millions of dollars to Haiti but the corrupt leadership misused and stole the money.
Pat Robertson made a statement regarding the earthquake in Haiti blaming it on the pact the Haitian’s made with the devil. He believes it is the wrath of God that perpetrated this disaster. Although, it is a factual story; the Haitian’s did a voodoo ceremony making a compact with the devil. It’s a history lesson that I do not think needed to be taught at this time. It was an insensitive statement made during the time of the crisis, akin to kicking someone when they are down. Robertson was crucified by the media for making the statement, which was stupid and insensitive.
Danny Glover on the other hand blamed the earthquake on the god of Global Warming. He stated we are all in peril because of global warming and climate change. When we (USA) did what we did at the climate summit in Copenhagen this is the response, this is what happens. It will be interesting to see if there is the same amount of outrage directed towards him.
There will be natural disasters throughout the world, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tornados, and hurricanes etc. because “It is what it is.” That is the nature of our planet. I do not believe it is “god’s will.”

IDIOT!   January 15th, 2010 - 10:26 pm

Since when does anybody give a d_amn about what Gibbs thinks about anything??
That moron is supposed to tell these reporters what the Messiah thinks!!!!
Putting ‘his’ two cents worth in ‘is stupid’!

And obviously this clown has never read ‘The Good Book’!

……it’s only just begun……….hold onto your hats…..the rest is yet to come! America will probably be next……

Robertson is a preacher, it is his job to point out flaws, bring them to the light of day, to learn from, to not repeat, and to strive towards goodness!
It is a teachable moment…..and right on time, whether anyone likes it or not………………….actions have consequences…..

The Catholic Cowboy   January 20th, 2010 - 10:26 am

Although Robertson’s statement was completely insensitive and out-of-touch, it is his opinion. He is getting older and probably should
hang ‘em up at this point in his career. Maybe focus on writing books, etc. where he will be edited, etc. He is entitled to his
opinion, strange as it is to most of us. Bad timing too. Anytime Gibbs mentions someone else has said something utterly stupid is
dripping with irony, isn’t it?
