I don’t know why he used an accent. His regular voice sounds more black.

kmichaels   October 8th, 2009 - 11:48 am

Liberal hypocrisy is nothing new. Remember the democrats claiming that it must be conservatives that are racists when it was democrats that lyn-ched 3400 blacks and lyn-ched 1400 white conservatives? Leftists are currently in the mode of using blacks from their plantation to promote their leftist agenda. They even got the hired helps kids promoting healthcare for the false messiah Obammy.

nonsequitur   October 8th, 2009 - 12:01 pm

This is not even close to being the same thing. The sambo black face is what the other guys did.

Forensic pathologist   October 8th, 2009 - 12:04 pm

Chugging a ‘forty’ of Drano® will make any ‘blackface’ turn white…

How ’bout it Prez?

Craig Allen   October 8th, 2009 - 12:05 pm

But not a word about Elizabeth Taylor trying to look like Michael Jackson!

WHERE’S THE OUTRAGE HOLLYWEIRD?

:O)

butch   October 8th, 2009 - 12:06 pm

How did he feel publicly about the movie “White Chicks”? Where is his outrage and public comment about Fred Armisen…what did he say would happen to the participants in America?

JameS   October 8th, 2009 - 12:40 pm

nonsequitur has it right. This is not at all the same thing. What…. the conservatives want all comedy to be politically correct now?

Is Connick, jr. a hypocrite because of this skit? No.

Breitbart.com twists the meaning of things constantly.

Scooter   October 8th, 2009 - 1:19 pm

Can I ask this?

So if a white person is impersonating a blac celebrity, they can’t wear face paint to look like the person?

That seems incredibly retarded!

If a impersonator wears white face paint to look like a white celebrity is that offensive?

I understand the historical difference… but how is the act of looking like the person you are impersonating offensive?

kmichaels   October 8th, 2009 - 1:56 pm

JameS and nonsequitur are both wrong.
First off JameS, are you stupid enough to think
that conservatives are saying that Harry can’t be allowed to put
on makeup to look black? If you are that big of a dope then
I pity your family. What is obviously being said is that Harry is
a liberal hypocrite. Did you miss that tiny point JameS because
you sure come across as a dope after what you said.
So then, you main theme is that it is ok to have makeup to
make you look black but not makeup to look too black.

Got it now. Without your brilliant analysis, JameS and nonthinkingsir, we would be hopelessly lost.

Barack Like Me   October 8th, 2009 - 2:28 pm

This is parody, unlike the “Shuck and Jive” black face denigration the other video had. Obviously, Orlando Jones was not offended here.

nonsequitur   October 8th, 2009 - 2:30 pm

kmichaels: “blackface” is a racist archetype. What Harry did in the skit was not. I am not sure why you do not understand the difference between “blackface” makeup and regular makeup to play a character. It is like saying the guy that plays Obama on SNL is doing “blackface”. Clearly he is not, and we all have laugh.

To call the two the same is only making YOU a moron. It also makes you ignorant of US history. To be blunt.

Tom   October 8th, 2009 - 3:18 pm

To start out I just want to say I am a typical white man in the United States of America…
That said, even I know that black face is racist, derogatory, and just out-n-out wrong.
I applaud Harry for speaking his mind and saying how inappropriate this act was. Now when Harry was on SNL he was not beseeching a black man and he was not in black face. There have been many, many white people who have portrayed black people in various forms such as TV, movies, and Broadway and 99% of the portrayals are acceptable and the 1% are the ones in black face and they are not acceptable.
Thank you Harry for speaking your mind and starting to inform the world that we in the U.S. have class and will not put up with such derogatory acts.

kmichaels   October 8th, 2009 - 3:56 pm

“nonsequitur October 8th, 2009 – 2:30 pm
kmichaels: “blackface” is a racist archetype”

Sure it is, and when Mad TV makes fun of black preachers there is no racist stereotyping and or archetyping involved in it.
And when Obama said that it is “typical” (as in archetypical) for white women to be afraid of blacks then it was not racist.

And When Obama said that he learned early to distrust whites then it was not racist, because your side is never racist.

And your democrat party was not in the least bit racists when they lyn-ched 3400 blacks and they lyn-ched 1400 white conservatives.
They were not racists, nonthinkingsir, since they lyn-ched both blacks and whites.

As always you are stupid enough to strain at gnats and swallow the camels.

kmichaels   October 8th, 2009 - 3:59 pm

Tom, was it racist for Obama to attend a black supremacist anti-white anti-jew church for twenty years or
is this just a little misunderstanding?

Tom, you don’t need to teach us what is racist or not, you need to just open your pigheaded eyes and see it
in the idiot kid president that you voted for.

kmichaels   October 8th, 2009 - 4:01 pm

When Eddie Murphy put on whiteface in his SNL skit (one that was quite funny) and did race-typical things that whites would do
not too many people were up in arms about it being racist, since it was done in the form of humor. Lefties are always a bit
thin skinned when they spot their own hypocrisy. This is not new. Leftists have always been slow learners of their own sins.

kmichaels   October 8th, 2009 - 4:03 pm

So then again, black preachers using typical black mannerisms in a typical black church and then
having whitey Harry do the same thing, with typical black mannerisms and less than positive
representation of black Christian churches then there is nothing racist about it.
This discussion is about hypocrisy, in case idiots Tom and Nonthinkingsir miss the point, which they generally do.

really?   October 8th, 2009 - 4:16 pm

They are not impersonating ‘black preachers’. They are impersonating impassioned preachers. Ever see Michael Pleger preach? What Harry Connick Jr is doing is not at all racist. It is a parody of preachers, regardless of race.

really?   October 8th, 2009 - 4:17 pm

Sorry, that should read Michael Pfleger, not Michael Pleger.

kmichaels   October 8th, 2009 - 5:31 pm

really? you are sad little liar. They are impersonating BLACK preachers, you stupid priick
If not black, Harry could have been an impassioned white preacher, you moron, but
his face was painted black, duh.

Ridiculous Comparison   October 8th, 2009 - 5:39 pm

This was clearly an acting skit for what looks like MADtv. And he was in a scene with a black actor/comedian Orlando Jones. The other show was a Gong Show type formatted program with white guys in blackface. Two completely different scenarios.

really?   October 8th, 2009 - 6:21 pm

I don’t think Harry’s face is painted black. I think he’s wearing fake facial hair. Double check. I did. The video’s a little grainy, but yeah. It’s just facial hair and shadowing.

I don’t see what makes my comments sad or what makes me a liar. What makes them ‘BLACK’? The accent? I thought that would make them Southern. The fact that they are in what looks like a Baptist Church? Are Baptist Churches only for African Americans?

Nice job name calling, kmichaels. It’s a sad defense of someone who has nothing to say.

Seriously. I’d love to know how that makes me a ’sad little liar’, a ‘moron’ or a ‘priick’ (especially since I’m a woman).

Tom   October 8th, 2009 - 7:06 pm

kmichaels,
Why don’t you go back in that hole you crawled out of(probably Glenn Beck’s A** Hole) and do us all a favor and do what your mother should have done in the beginning. You figure that one out.

really?,
YOU GO GIRL! Let him have it!

really?   October 8th, 2009 - 7:24 pm

I’m not trying to let anyone have it. I’m trying to clarify what I see on the video. I see Orlando Jones, a former MadTV actor of Dominican and African American decent and Harry Connick Jr, a musician of Jewish and Irish American decent performing a sketch where they act as impassioned preachers attempting to sell Harry Connick Jr CDs.

I just don’t see how this could be seen in the same light at all as the black face Jackson Jive skit.

Seriously. What makes Connick a hypocrite by performing in this sketch?

(Tom, no need to tell kmichaels names. It defeats the purpose of this conversation. But thanks for the support.)

James   October 8th, 2009 - 10:38 pm

This is the controvertial video you came up with!?! The idea that someone could compare this video with the blackface video is completely idiotic. This is spoofing a television preacher. There is no racial overtone in this video. This let’s me know the people at breitbarttv are hate mongering race-baiters.

Huh?   October 8th, 2009 - 10:52 pm

Is HCJ even wearing black face in this?? I can’t tell. Can somebody enlighten me? All I see if 2 dudes making fun of preacher stereotypes.

pleaseandthankyou   October 8th, 2009 - 11:03 pm

It’s a subtle but critical distinction between what you see here and the practice of denigrating black people with “blackface”. The purpose of the above (this video) type of makeover is not to denigrate black people. If you are a racist, then you probably aren’t that sensitive to begin with, and the distinction will be lost on you. Would a black person have participated in the Australian skit? Absolutely not. I commend Harry Connick Jr. for his revulsion at what he witnessed in Australia.

Rob   October 9th, 2009 - 1:28 am

kmicheals, you and I are usually on the same page but I have to say that you are quite wrong on this one. Anyone that has ever attended more than one church in the south understands the parody in this video and it has nothing to do with race. How you can see him portraying an over the top southern baptist preacher while suggesting that his new cd is only good for use as a doorstop and for leveling wobbly furniture and call it the same as a black face routine is beyond me. That being said, Aussies need to accept that Americans find that sort of portrayal as offensive and demeaning, and Americans need to accept that other cultures my not view it in the same way that we do. No need to defend it and no need for liberals who complain that we meddle in the affairs of other nations too much, to tell Australians what they should and should not consider offensive. If any offense is to be taken, then it needs to be expressed within their own society.

yellowroseofTX   October 9th, 2009 - 1:30 am

Joshua@ what the hell does “sound more black mean” please enlighten me. Harry has that typical Louisiana drawl that many people born and raised in LA have, regardless of race. The style of preaching he’s doing in the clip i have seen done in southern churches that had predominately white congregations. It’s not just a “black preacher thing.” I believe this type of passionate preaching is called “charismatic”. Please check out Rod Parsley. He has a very passionate preaching style or Jesse Duplantis. No he’s not a hypocrite at all.

Bob   October 9th, 2009 - 6:41 am

Look people, stop lying to yourself, you know the following is true. America is done, over. America sucks. Our culture has been destroyed by psychological warfare disguised as political correctness. We are a tyrannical police state. Our nation has been ruined by evil people who hated everything it was, who hated the people who made it a nice place.

It is time to dissolve the Union and start over, peacefully if possibly, but by any means necessary if not. America has been destroyed like no other culture or nation in the history of mankind. The greatest, fastest fall in history, and not by any accident, rest assured of that. Connick’s blatant hypocrisy is just the symptom, he and other mind-numbed, brain-washed liberal Marxist scumbags like him are a cancer which need to be eliminated.

Da Pick   October 9th, 2009 - 11:14 am

Harry was “doing” a white evangelical preacher. Those guys were on TV every Sunday morning when I was a kid in Oklahoma. Jimmy Swaggart comes to mind. They all hawked their own wares, too.

Joseph   October 9th, 2009 - 4:06 pm

I remember that bit, it was pretty funny. I didn’t think he was supposed to ‘black’ but it was a while ago. Basically, he played a reverened with Orlando Jones who ended up hocking Harry Connick Jr. CDs in anyway they could.

George   October 9th, 2009 - 5:17 pm

You’all should really do your home work on Harry’s family genes, you just might be surprised!

chaya   October 12th, 2009 - 4:03 pm

What is sounding black????????? I think the preacher skit was funny!!! He just sounded like a southern preacher. However I was offended by the painted black faces on the Australian tv show. I just think they didn’t know any better.I’t goes to show how countries and races see things differently. I’m glad Harry explained things to them!!

Mjackson   October 16th, 2009 - 10:25 am

A liberal Marxist? Now that’s funny. Hey Bob, I bet you’re not even American but if you really are then I have one suggestion for you. Leave. Leave this great country you thankless, ungrateful, ultra-conservative, holier-than-thou attitude having jerk who doesn’t know the difference be ‘blackface’ and simple character acting/impersonation. Perhaps you can find a nice quiet hole to crawl into somewhere in Australia until your lord supreme, Rush Limbaugh, becomes president. In other words, we surely won’t miss you because you won’t be back.

Mjackson   October 16th, 2009 - 10:29 am

I guess nobody did their homework on Connick’s family. I will leave that to ‘Bob’ Limbaugh up there. Pretty hilarious!
