University Adds BMI Requirement to Graduate

US News: Lincoln University's recent decision to require students to undergo a physical examination before graduation has upset some students, the Lincolnian reports. If a student's body mass index surpasses 30, he or she must complete a physical education class in order to graduate. Opponents of the requirement say the university is discriminating against obese people, the report says. Others are concerned that their time at Lincoln could drag on longer than normal because of the new class requirement.

Liberal..Godless.Facist Creeps! This Prof should be taken out and be tared and feathered…He is so arrogant and creepy…they have NO right to get involved in the student’s weight…NONE!

He calls it VALUES???? He should work on himself….including his Soul! And he should read the Constitution. What’s next..All Christians must take a De-Christian values course? Or all Conservative students must take a de-conservative values course?

OR all anti-G@y lifestyle students must be in a course that takes this belief away…Oh…ya…they already do this one.

This is just another example of Arrogant Liberals taking PC way TOO far. I were an alumni there I would never give them any donations every again.

I graduated 7 years ago and had to take a physical education class. I’m a bit of a fat ass now but I was thin then.

SubjectoftheUSSA   November 23rd, 2009 - 1:36 pm

LOL how pathetic. Besides it shouldn’t be hard for a college kid to lose weight. As long as their mommy and daddy aren’t sending them a ton of money it’s pretty hard not to lose weight by not eating right in college.

SubjectoftheUSSA   November 23rd, 2009 - 1:36 pm

If you’re a fatty that is

Fox4Me   November 23rd, 2009 - 1:42 pm

Too funny that she would go immediately for the “discrimination” defense.

Sharifa! Obesity is not a protected class (yet), so it’s not discrimination!

Lay off the cheese steaks and canoli…

Conservatives graduate smart. Liberals graduate STUPID   November 23rd, 2009 - 1:52 pm

90% of the overweight people in College are Liberal Women and most are in the Arts & Law Schools. This is discrimination against Liberals. I remember when I was in College, I lived off grants and Student Loans. Gained 20 pounds, lifted weights every other day, married my Senior year to a Conservative girl and graduated Business School with a 3.8 GPA. I’ve never understood why someone could be fat in College. What in the hell are these Liberal slobs eating and how much?

Boogy Man   November 23rd, 2009 - 2:12 pm

I live not far from that place, Have done work there as well, That whole place is a joke

The Health Bill in the Senate calls for mandatory physical examinations for anyone signing up for the Government insurance option. Smokers, alcoholics, drug addicts, and obese people will be charged a slightly higher rate AND MUST submit to a government approved program (stop smoking clinics, AA, Narc Anon, weight loss clinics) to remain insured and in good standing with the policy or be charged the highest premium. Persons engaged in “risky behaviors” such as Skydivers, bungee jumpers, recreational pilots, scuba divers, hunters, and semi-professional sports like racing, skiing, etc. Will be required to pay the highest premiums under this bill. Yeah folks, it is full of crap like that…..you should take some time and read it!

Its a money grab. Shameful.

John Galt   November 23rd, 2009 - 2:47 pm

if you dont like it dont go there. sharifa..try to speak english

Jana   November 23rd, 2009 - 2:53 pm

It is yet another example of “government” ‘over reach’. They are taking organization that should not have any authority over a student’s personal behavior, and requiring they take an additional class in order to receive an educational degree that they had already otherwise earned.

No matter how hard he tries to rationalize this, the ability to earn a degree has nothing to do with a person’s body mass index. They can make a physical education credit a degree requirement for all degrees, but to single out individuals who do not meet a BMI baseline IS discrimination. I was a ’stick’ all through college, so I would not have been effected, but it is just one move move into the direction of over stepping into personal liberties. The next step could be singling out, any person who has a STD, or who smokes, or tests positive for drugs- because these effect the health of a graduating student as well. Put bluntly, it is not the school’s job to modify a person’s behavior.

LOL   November 23rd, 2009 - 2:58 pm

They also discriminate against dumb people by requiring you to pass classes to graduate. Let’s protest that!!!

Kyle In Texas   November 23rd, 2009 - 3:04 pm

This This dope, Dr. Deboy is so full of himself. It is not too expensive or time consuming to require “all” students to take a P.E. course in order to graduate. The student has roughly 4 years to take the class. It is a required elective and the facts show that there is no additional stress on the course curriculum to do so. This guy is a phony and is nothing more than a bleeding heart that knows better for all fat people. What a blowhard.

Al   November 23rd, 2009 - 4:17 pm

The road to serfdom is here and if you are overweight you can surf.

Typical liberal insanity   November 23rd, 2009 - 4:21 pm

They don’t check the BMI of an alumni donor before they cash the check, do they??

Is a low BMI part of the requirement to be a professor or get tenure, or to serve as pres of the college, or on the board??

I thought not.

Typical PC liberal mental disorder.

Alumni, send them a donation check with the stipulation that it is to be reduced by $$$ for each point over the PC “ideal” BMI of the college pres or the average of the board of directors. LOL

Robert   November 23rd, 2009 - 5:07 pm

This is outrageous. A student’s BMI has nothing to do with his or her ability to enroll and pass college courses. If one student is required to pass a physical health course, ALL students should be required to do the same thing. It’s not illegal to be fat, just as it isn’t illegal to smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol responsibly. Should smokers and those who consume alcohol be required to pass health education courses before graduation too?

muggins   November 23rd, 2009 - 7:14 pm

Here is a little taste of what public health coverage will be like.

Ann   November 23rd, 2009 - 8:29 pm

ASince when does weight have any bearing on ones knowliedge? Taking a “weight test” is about as smart as taking a urine test.
This is what we have to look forward to with the “Change and Hope” group.

Calvin&Hobbes   November 23rd, 2009 - 9:59 pm

Great idea, but this requirement should first be tried out on the socialist liberal students. I’m sure they would embrace it.

When it’s proven to be effective, then, and only then, should we consider it for the rest of the students.

Jana   November 23rd, 2009 - 10:12 pm

I think we should start with Berkley, and UCLA first. There should be mandatory random drug testing for all graduating students. Any student that tests positive for drugs must be required to take a drug rehabilitation course in order to graduate. Let’s see how long it would take before you see the riots, and protests screaming about their civil rights being violated.

Commieobamie   November 24th, 2009 - 11:31 am

Pretty soon they’ll want to test for obama disease. Ya Know.

FAT HEAD.

Andrew   November 30th, 2009 - 6:44 pm

The reason some students don’t have to take it is because they are responsible and don’t have a weight issue. It would be a waste to make someone who is already at their ideal body weight because they set aside time for exercise take this class. It is funny seeing all the fatty fats get pissed off because they can’t be a burden on our health system in peace anymore.

Andrew   November 30th, 2009 - 10:27 pm

Nice to see you censor out all the comments from people who do not agree with you. Very open minded.

ceebee   December 4th, 2009 - 5:01 am

Unreal. The rules/requirements should be for everyone. Not for a specific class or target. That’s discrimination.

Schools in general are just a joke and a waste of money. Schools are nothing but broken promises and dreams. They teach people nothing of real value. The only thing schools teach is how to be subservient under a “one world government”. No free thinking, no creativity, no independence in schools.

Better off using the internet for learning and education. You learn a lot more than being inside the box. A degree/diploma is nothing but a piece of paper.
