Underwater Photographer Captures Remarkable Video of Aggressive Jumbo Squid Near San Diego

AP: Thousands of jumbo flying squid—aggressive 5-foot-long sea monsters with razor-sharp beaks and toothy tentacles—have invaded the shallow waters off San Diego, spooking scuba divers and washing up dead on tourist-packed beaches.

Underwater?

I don’t like to hear that word.

Although, I did get away with it.

These were not aggressive, more curious. Just hate when videographers hype the ‘danger’ of diving with undersea life, because it’s a crock.

So scary that you had to go diving at night with a super-bright underwater flashlight to see them? You want to see a scary bottom feeder? http://thevinylvillage.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/pelosi-photo.jpg

An earthquake off California?

Molluscs looking for something to eat?

Only Al Gore can save us now!

James K   July 16th, 2009 - 11:43 pm

Yes dantes, most large animals in nature are super friendly. These humboldt would just love to swim around with you singing Kumbaya. It would be a lovely end to your day of hugging trees and kissing bears.

Zzzzzzzzzzzz. Wow. There are squid in the ocean? Seriously.

I love how everything coming out of California is overly ‘marketed’. This could be mistaken for a student’s film project, but that would be insulting students.

Hoop – In your wildest dreams you could not imagine shooting and editing this footage. You are a total kook.

Oh,my!!!—Monsters from the deep via Hall of the Mountain King—gee whiz–I won’t be able to sleep for, at least, a couple more minutes.
Nice video though. Try it to Beethoven’s Pastoral to demonstrate their peaceful, gentle nature.

I think George Bush is at the bottom of the earthquake problem. I think we need to have an investigation, some hearings-presided over by Barbara Boxer. She will ferret out how George Bush disrupted this delicate ecosystem and caused the squid to become agressive. I am impressed with how the narrator seems to know exactly what each animal is thinking and saying. I think she too animal speak from Al Gore. They are so in touch with nature and what it wants.

Video is good, but why do people add music and ruin it?

Doug   July 17th, 2009 - 8:35 am

Interesting footage, and the squids’ increasing presence is an intriguing story, but — the narration in this video would insult the intelligence of a 3-year-old.

Scott Slanda   July 17th, 2009 - 10:42 am

Why the dramatization? I hate all this hyperbole. This is a new item, and she makes it into a Peter and the Wolf production.

Domonick   July 17th, 2009 - 11:23 am

What an excellent example of sensationalized journalism. So hokey, it’s laughable.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm……Calamari!

howard432   July 17th, 2009 - 12:38 pm

Nice to see that everyone saw through this super trash production. Whoever did it should be locked into the Al Gore Museum for UnNatural super threats for at least ten years. How do people like this ever get jobs or funding?
