Which is why I recoil in horror at the notion of our government taking over huge segments of the private sector, under the guise of “emergency” and using excuses such as “too big to fail”. It’s worrisome when one administration gives billions of our money to AIG, a private corporation. It even more worrisome when the next administration, who was ran on and was elected on a platform of change, buys majority interest in GM, gives billions more to banks in return for telling them how to run their business; and attempts to take over much of the private health care industry.

Reconciliation will not be part of this process. The Senate Bill will be passed in the House and then it will be signed into law.
Reid and the President have no intention of using Reconciliation to weaken the Senate’s bill on abortion or anything else. By forgetting all about the “Reconciliation” part as soon as the House passes, then all the president really does is irk the democrats who, overall will be happy they got a health care bill at all. Only the Stupaks will be left in the cold – some will be bought off with other items, and Stupak may be mad, but what will he ever be able to do about it?
In November, The President will lose control of both the Senate and the House. If the Senate were today to use reconciliation, then the next president can easily justify reconciliation to further modify or even cancel this bill 3 years from now.
There are rules for a reason. When a citizen breaks the rules/laws they are thrown in jail, when a Senator, Representative, or someone from the Executive branch breaks a law it is called normal and ‘the way things are done in DC.’ We should not put up with this and we should start holding people accountable. Sadly the U.S. has a short memory and the politicians think we won’t remember when elections come. Up until now that is somewhat true. Up until now.

But they’re not. They’re trying to pass the Senate bill through the House of Representatives, then make entirely legal budgetary amendments in a bill that they hope to pass via reconciliation. The reconciliation bill will not be a comprehensive health bill, but rather minor changes to the Senate bill.
This is precisely what reconciliation should be used for; the Senate already got 60 votes for their bill. The idea that they plan on passing a large HCR bill through reconciliation is an aggravatingly common misperception, even among journalists who should know better.
“Sheets” is on top of his game in that speech. Is he too old now to wage a spirited debate now?
Now the plan is to pass amendments/”corrections” to the senate bill and then claim with a straight face that if you’ve just amended something then that something is in effect passed.

The President again claimed his plan lowers health care costs. It doesn’t.
The President again claimed his plan would not give government bureaucrats or insurance company bureaucrats more control over health care. It does.
The President again claimed that “if you like your plan, you can keep your plan. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.” That simply is not true.
The President again said his plan gives the American people the same health care as Members of Congress. It doesn’t.
The President again claimed his plan is paid for. It is not.
The only “new” wrinkle in this speech was President Obama’s call for “an up or down vote” on health care reform. Again the White House is completely out of touch with reality. The bills before Congress, including the President’s new additions, would still result in a massive shift of power over health care financing and delivery of care to Washington politicians and bureaucrats. The public has spoken, and it does not want a federal takeover of health care.
We are on the brink of socialism, which the liberals have craved for a century, at least. ObamaCare is the keystone. If it is passed, our gov’t will then have us by the N/\DZ. Is there anyone in office left with the guts to stand up and stop this legislation, as they did with HillaryCare? It will be a massive gov’t program, which our Congress will never have the political will to undo or fix correctly, if passed. They are not ‘fixing’ anything now, only implementing the most key piece of socialistic legislation on Obama’s and the rest of the liberals’ list. The goal of this gov’t is to transform us into a socialist nation. Will that goal win out, or will the selfish desires of our politicians to be re-elected win out? Because many of them will surely be voted out of office, if they vote for this legislation! Many of them know that! Are they willing to ‘fall on the sword’ and sacrifice their future political careers, for ‘the cause?’ The battle continues. If they really had the votes to pass this legislation now, Pelosi would call for a vote immediately! They don’t yet have the votes, so the arm-twisting, intimidation and bribery continues, as well as the political destruction of any democrat who is not ‘onboard.’ Any of our citizens who expect this legislation will result in a ‘free ride’ for them, are quite mistaken. We will become like (formerly Great) Britain, with our medical records published without consent. We will wait weeks or months for medical care, in many instances. Patients will be ‘triaged.’ We will have the ‘death panels’ as widely discussed, for those deemed no longer able to contribute (taxes) to society, and those that our gov’t does not want to continue to provide Social Security and Medicare to. Many doctors have already stated that they will change professions, if this legislation is passed. We will certainly have less prospective medical students, and ultimately, less doctors. Patients even in hospitals will be left to die, such as the recent patient who died of dehydration, and called 911 because the nurses ignored him, wouldn’t even give him a drink of water, knowing he had a brain tumor, just waiting for him to die! We already have Hospice, who will gladly ease you into an endless slumber forever, when called upon. I knew an ex-US Marine, who had inoperable cancer. His physician gave him 3 months or so to live. He was prepared to die, and only asked the doctor to ease his pain. Hospice was brought in, pumping him full of excessive drugs, and he died within 24 hrs. Last time I checked, euthanasia is still illegal here… Ya, BTW, thanks for your great service to our country!
Can we all just call our leaders by their names? It really only hurts a person’s arguments when they say things like “Nanzi Pelosi,” “Oh Bummer,” and “Dumbocrats”; shouldn’t we debate issues with facts and sources instead of names and allegations? The country will never move forward if this board is indicative of the type of conversations people are capable of having. And can everybody just realize that in a two-party system, one senator does not represent their entire party? We’ve had petitions, we’ve had peaceful demonstrations – they heard the massive outcry over bailouts – and did it anyway. You are laughing stocks to these people (and I mean stock as in livestock). Two weeks after the bailouts everyone was calm. “We’ll vote you out” – yeah sure big deal.

While everyone is spouting rhetoric from their various sources, everyone seems to ignore some basic facts; Health care is not a Constitutional right. Until lawsuits escalated at an incredible rate, health was generally affordable. A person who needs immediate medical attention will not be refused care, on the occasions that a patient is turned away it is by overworked hospitals they are normally transported to another medical facility – this is done by the hospital and not the insurance companies that the administration seeks to demonize. Added to the high cost of malpractice insurance, doctors are being paid less and less for for treating medicare/medicaid patients than for those patients who use either health insurance or personal funds for treatment – the insurance industry is mandated by federal and state governments to provide coverage that you may neither want, need, nor desire. As you provide “free health care” with programs like Medicare and Medicaid, people use and abuse the system more than if they had to pay for it themselves, relying instead on the American taxpayer to pick up the tab – it’s not their money so what do they care if they go in to the emergency room for a hang-nail.
The real health care crisis is that medicare and medicaid fraud figures exceed profits of insurance companies, the federal gov’t has known about this for decades but has refused to take any steps to curb it. The federal gov’t has been forcing insurance companies “eat” their underpayment to doctors accepting medicare/medicaid which has helped increase insurance premiums. Trial lawyers have been a significant cause of increased health care costs by reaping huge settlements that victims only see a fraction of, and leading doctors to perform unnecessary tests that may have nothing to do with the circumstances that brought a patient into their office. By the way, Trial Lawyers are one of the largest lobbying organizations that support health care reform, and will reap the benefit of no restrictions being placed on damage limits they can attempt to sue for.
Although the dems throw it out as a negative, as a scheme to shame the repubs into reverse, I keep watching and hoping that the repubs will begin embracing, “The Party of NO!” They should turn it into a positive, a source of pride. Thank God there are Congressmen/women that have the wisdom, and endurance to keep saying, “NO!” They should emphasize that, “No,” is not automatically a bad thing… that in certain circumstances it is the only, “right,” response. They can make the comparison of the need to repeatedly tell a spoiled, demanding child, “NO,” regardless of how many tantrums the child throws.

It’s called the “Byrd rule”, as he orchestrated it’s invention/implementation. The Senate, before the “Byrd rule”, operated differently for 100’s of years, as a majority rule chamber under the constitution, along with the filibuster. The “Byrd rule” helped change that, giving a power advantage (effective Presidential veto power), of the already few (100 Senators 2/state), to any minority down to just one single Senator. Prior to the “Byrd rule” adoption in the Senate, we had, for the most part, “rule by the majority” government representation, under the constitution, with in-place checks and balances. After the “Byrd rule” was put effectively in-place, the Senate became more and more the dominate and controlling branch of government. It’s little wonder that we have seen that lobbyist’s influence/control more and more issues and the context of laws/regulations, many adverse to the American public at large, when it only takes focused effort on a few in the Senate to get that accomplished. The saying is that “power tends to corrupt”; and the “Byrd rule”, just made it easier to do that. Sen. Byrd is called the Senate historian; but I am not sure he could (nor many others at the time) understood the full impact to/on this country, of this change to the Senate rules. Allowing influence and power to be concentrated in fewer and fewer hands was not what this nation was founded on; and it’s very sad/maddening to many that the “Byrd Rule” did just that. Most of us see, that Wall St. and the Big banks, along with others, see and use this to their advantage, as focused lobbying efforts now only have to influence a few.
