Why do we have hate crimes? Aren’t crimes all committed out of some kind of hatred. It seems racist to add a penalty onto someones crime because of their skin color. I realize it is wrong to commit a crime because you dislike someones skin color, but it is just as wrong to commit a crime because you don’t like their clothes.

How is this in any way a “hate crime” no violence was comitted or planned, and the only people who got their poor little feelings hurt need to grow a thicker skin. The highest penalty that these two should face is being forced to pick up the cotton balls… though, maybe they were just being “green” and composting right? I mean, cotton balls are organic – they grow wild all over – so really, it wasn’t even littering.
Were they making a statement? Even a racist statement? Yeah, but that’s what the second amendment is for… so anyone regardless of their beliefs, has the freedom to express them without the government being able to do anything about it. My opinion is that this was probably just a prank at the expense of oversensitive blacks. seriously – have you ever been in grade school? Why would two prospective Naval officers throw their careers? Why would two “average college students” suddenly decide to toss their educations, and ruin their reputations on a prank that they knew to be hurtful and racist? I just can’t get there.

I had wondered why there were no cotton balls for sale last month.
Well, whatever this is about, if they are found guilty of a felony charge on this they can kiss any shot at the U.S. Navy goodbye and possibly a good portion of their rights debarred for the rest of their lives.

And, you guessed it, NO CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED AGAINST THE NONWHITE GIRL. Al Sharpton is probably going to get her a scholarship just like Jesse Blackson did for the stripper/whore who falsely accused the white kids at Duke. OH YES, SHE HAD NO CHARGES FILED AGAINST HER, DID SHE?

There must be more evidence in the authorities hands for assessing a hate crime dropping what appears to one bag of cotton balls on the ground. The perps must have been hanging around and professing the reason for the cotton balls to have gotten caught in the first place.
I wonder what would happen if a white dummy wearing bermuda shorts, black dress shoes and white socks was hung in a tree on campus, would white students protest, and would campus cops turn it into the crime of the century? Who knows, maybe I would be wrong and nothing would happen.

Being of Irish heritage, I’m insulted by the wide variety of potatoes in the produce section of my local supermarket. Apparently, these people (at the university) never heard of Cohen v. California (1971) a USSC case that ruled an obscene comment on the draft on a demonstrator’s jacket could not be punished as it was symbolic speech. This goes far beyond ridiculous and resides in the Twilight Zone!!
