I once encountered the “first name” on a class list that I absolutely had to call out on the first day of classes. The name was “Shithead”, I kid you not. I preceded my calling of the person’s name with this: “Now, I am going to pronounce the next name the only way I know how…” and did so.

An irate young black woman condescendingly explained that her name was pronounced “Shah-teed”. She went on to prove herself to be one of the most obnoxious people I have ever known. I learned that my opinion was largely shared by her peers.

Again, am very serious here. I kid you not.

I remain of the opinion that naming your child “Shithead” constitutes child abuse.

I had a similiar encounter. I retired from big business. One customer’s record came up with the first name “Reject”. Trying to spin a positive, I inquired as to how I should pronounce her name…possibly “Re-jay”. Nope, her flat was response was, “Reject, just like it’s spelled.” The conversaion continued with a terrible attitude from her side.

On the other hand, Mr. Brown Green was delight as was Ms. Holly Wood.

Forgot…Ms. Jenniphor (forgot last name) was pretty cool, too.
