The Koran is supposedly dictated directly from God to Muhammed. Oh, except for the parts where Muhammed claimed that all muslims should embrace “the people of the Book” (jews, christians). Once he was rejected by them, he suddenly discovered that those words that were previously known to be given to him directly from God/Allah were actually told to him by Satan. Hence the satanic verses.

Yes, the Pilgrims were trying to get away from religious intolerance, and so landed on our shores. (That didn't go so well for the people already here – but that is a whole different argument.)
