The problem is that all the motels and hotels (even the major chains – INCLUDING all the “Best”, “Western” and “Quality” motels), are slowly being taken over by Pakistani and Punjabi immigrants whose hygiene standards are deplorable. They know they control a business with highly transient customers who are usually too busy with other things than to concentrate on a room’s particular sanitary conditions, especially if such conditions are not easily detected….(who carries a black light around with them in their suitcases?)
What I look for in a motel, besides the rates is the smell of curry when I enter the main office. Then I ask the name of the owner and or manager. Often they will put a “White” person behind the desk knowing that an Indian face will be an immediate turn off.
Another trick is to look for signs that proclaim “American Owned” on their marquees. While one should be careful to “look behind the curtain”, usually those proclaiming American ownership are genuine. They know the problems that the newly arrived immigrants are creating for their industry.
Best Western, Binghamington, NY….filthy, filthy, filthy!
Super 8 Painted Post, NY….carpet looked like a vehicle engine was overhauled on it. Kept my money and moved on.
If I see that a person with the name Patel as owner, mgr, I move on. First clue is the smell of curry as you enter the office. Discriminating, you bet. It is my money and all the Patel’s I’ve come across don’t share the same idea of cleanliness as I do.
Now, I only stay in newer hotels.
I could swear this is one of MSNBC’ s stage sets — Look for Matthews or Olbermann—-You’ll see ‘em!
Hate staying in hotels. B&B’s are always cleaner. If I have to stay in a hotel, I go get 2 cans of Lysol spray for the room/AC/heater and pour a gallon of bleach around the bathroom. I never set a bare foot on the carpet. If possible, I drive my truck, sleep in it, and find a Y, gym, or KOA to shower.
