What the heck does coconut mean. I didn’t realize it was a racially charged term. Deutsch is a douche, no doubt, but I swear I have never heard any use the word coconut to put someone down. Am I the only one baffled by this?

For those who don’t know: a “coconut” is someone “brown on the outside (latino) but white on the inside.” It’s a totally racist slam – akin to calling a black man a “house n*****” just because they happen to be conservative.
People like Rush Limbaugh actually have said some pretty bad stuff now and then – and gotten slammed for it. But Rush has not DIRECTLY made a racist statement about a particular individual. This is really bad, and Deutsch should apologize for this on the air – especially given MSNBC’s love of slamming conservatives for such things.
