I’ve been to Haiti several times in recent years. Pat hit the nail on the head. The Haitians that have turned to Christ will tell you so. Saying Haiti was hit with an earthquake because they are cursed is a bit much there Pat. Nothing could be more untruthful and annoying than to speculate that weather or earthly phenomenon is controlled by God. When a tornado kills dozens in a Southern Baptist town in the south, I don’t say God’s wrath was behind this. When Jesus demanded the storm calm, did He go against God since God supposedly is behind weather? I think not and will pray for the Christians of Haiti as well as those who have not accepted Christ.

I went to Haitit on a short term mission trip in the mid-1980’s. When you observe at the people, talk to them, view the decimation (by the locals) of the countryside, etc., I have no doubt, that much of the nation’s woes are tied to the pacts entered into by Haiti’s past leaders.

So… some folks back during the Napoleonic period supposedly made a pact with a devil, and Robertson’s loving and forgiving god kills thousands of people two centuries later who didn’t do it? Problem is Mr. Robinson that most people think they are born experts on religion when most have not studied scripture for any real length of time and the rest have to try and sift through a matrix of bad theology, and error to find the truth. This horrible natural disaster has occured and yet some guy has the audacity to find a way to blame the population of Haiti for this, as if they brought it upon themselves? How ridiculous and utterly ignorant; so what of the people of Thailand in 2004? Did they make a pact with the Devil too? or were all the inhabitants just pure-bred sinners?

Why must the peaceful, moral-inducing ideas behind all religions be attributed to such violence and horror when people need a reason to justify their own feelings.
