Actually, there is a good use for Gore’s “poem”. Keep mp3’s on hand in every emergency room for poisoning victims. When induced vomiting is called for, play the poem. If that doesn’t work, then play the video, where the victim will have added visual stimuli.

Reading the comments here the human species doesn’t deserve this beautiful planet we are trashing. And if most Americans had an IQ above 50 they would be able to understand the poem and more importantly the book which was well researched and written. But I suppose it is much easier to devolve back to simply trashing that which you don’t have the intelligence to comprehend. What an embarrassment this country is.

When I read the poem which is at the end of the introduction I was pleasantly surprised. It is a beautiful, evocative, yet sad narrative on the world we live in, with a hope that the tools we have at our disposal will be used to turn it around. I also agree that using poetry and music to bring out this message are all successful ways to evoke responses that lead to action. I then wrote a small piece in response to his poem to show that I agree with the urgency and the hope:

This dagger placed at her heart
carving out coldness
floating through time
melting into infinity

Night falls on desolate land
wasting bones
withered sands
shaped by hands
that knew better

Water now runs slow
thirsting for life
against time
dispensed for folly

We the stewards
never seeing
what lies ahead

Don’t let the uneducated turkeys get you down. For anyone actually following what is going on beyond their own doorsteps and not saturated in reality TV and FOX NEWS this is a major global crisis that needs our urgent attention. Not only because of climate change, but because of the pollution and health effects of burning fossil fuels. Hopefully those responding here and elsewhere on the Internet with the same spiel are not indicative of the majority of world citizens, otherwise we are truly cooked.
