The B-Cast: Obama Advisor Calls on Christians to ‘Leave Glenn Beck’

Founder of Sojourners Jim Wallis writes on the Huffington Post:
Dear Glenn,
You first urged Christians to leave churches that preached social justice. Today, you went further, saying that social justice "is a perversion of the gospel." Well, that says it all. Perhaps you don't realize that most Christians believe social, economic, and racial justice are at the heart of the gospel, not a perversion of it. You also engaged in a series of lies and distortions about me personally.

When hussein and his advisors start speaking the truth, for a change, then maybe folks will “leave Glenn Beck”. hussein and his advisors DESPISE those who speak from the facts and will do anything to silence them. hussein and his advisors are by their nature, liars.

jdog   March 12th, 2010 - 2:45 am

Charity is the heart of the Gospel… not the redistribution of wealth from a barrel of a gun. Charity is a matter of choice, not force.
Progressives know nothing of the Gospel of Christ.

OH, BROTHER! First they tell the Senate to stay off the Drudge Report; now they want Christians to avoid Glenn Beck?
HOW MORONIC are these people???
This is AMERICA! We AMERICAN INDIVIDUALS decide for OURselves what webpages we will frequent and what TV shows we will watch.
JUST TRY TO CHANGE THAT, you arrogant slobs!

Ted in Japan   March 12th, 2010 - 5:04 am

What the hell is “social justice”? To me, it’s just another tricky bit of wordplay designed to mainstream horrendous Leftist ideas. If a man is guilty of murdering a woman in cold blood, then justice demands that he be punished for his crime. But if the man is black and the woman is white, then real justice is tossed out the window in favor of “social justice”. The black man, in effect, is cast as a victim of historical injustices and is exonerated of any wrong-doing. White society is to blame for his actions and the white woman, in effect, is the price we must pay to level the scales of justice….which is no longer blind.

the heart of the Gospel is what Christ did for us so that as a natural response we become active in social, racial and economic justice issues. People like Ellis allways seem to miss or minimize the centrality of Christ part.

It is people like this who blur the lines. They replace ‘righteousness’ with justice or other words as they see fit, and use religion to forward their agenda.

Gary   March 12th, 2010 - 7:30 am

Jdog, charity is not the heart of the Gospel. The heart of the Gospel is about God’s love for His creation of man as expressed through His gift. That gift is one of eternal life with God and we become a child of God and no longer just God’s creation (John 1:12-13; http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=john%201:12-13&version=NASB ). Charity is one of the works we do because of our new found life in the faith. Charity does not mean we give to everyone. The scripture is clear on this.

Tax Exempt Wolf   March 12th, 2010 - 7:56 am

Jim Wallis, you are a socialist, plain and simple, using the Bible (out of context) to legitimize your very secular, statist, caesar-worshiping, political ideology. As other have said, the heart of the gospel is Jesus Christ’s substitutionary atonement. In gratitude for what Christ did, we then love others and be charitable. It is not a the point of a gun or sword, however, as you and Bono and all your other tax and spend hippie left-over wannabe “pastors” preach. Shame on you for perverting the Bible and trying to make people feel guilty for not joining your Church-State and paying Tithe-Tax. If the government didn’t tax us so much, we could give more to our own churches and charities instead of your Father in Washington and his “Church.” Glenn Beck’s a Mormon and he knows more than you about it, what does that tell you about how easy it is to be a “pastor” in some denominations. Disgraceful!

Catherine   March 12th, 2010 - 7:57 am

Does this idiot support “social justice” from Reverend Wright who screams “God damn America”? It is deeply offensive for this man to say “most Christians” feel the way he does. THAT is a cheap debate trick, and if he looks back over his shoulder he’ll find his is a lonely perversion.

"Social Justice" means "Socialism" to a Democrat.   March 12th, 2010 - 8:02 am

We are turning over the tables and driving out the money-changers from the temple. Mr. Wallis, so sorry you came late, your business is getting closed down, find another temple to peddle your trinkets.

demdicks   March 12th, 2010 - 8:12 am

Here is the one major area of disagreement I have with all conservative pundits, the fact that they do not use the power of the boycott like the left does. We should immediately target any corporate sponsors of huffpo, daily kos, moveon, all of the brodcast networks during its newscasts, and tell them if their sponsorship continues they are done for. Pure and simple, it’s time to use the alinsky tactics against them full force, no apologies.

concerned citizen   March 12th, 2010 - 8:15 am

The heart of the Gospel is redemption, Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose on the third day so that we could escape….justice (in the form of eternal punishment for our sins). We as Christians are to remember to look to the less fortunate and yes we need to render to Caesar, but to try to use scripture to advance the administration’s agenda is pretty over the top.
On the other hand does the hypocrisy really surprise anyone?

Sue   March 12th, 2010 - 8:46 am

God provides justice and He alone provides justice. Economic, Social well being of our fellow citizens is up to the citizens closest to the source of those in need. Government power should never interfere in the will of the people to help their fellow citizens. Yes, this is a problem area in that so many of our churches are involved with groups preaching social and economic justice. Christians can feel guilty if not agreeing with these Progressive agendas to help the “less thans”. There is not reason for guilt. Progressives and Communists believe in ultimate government control and that government has answers to all economic an social problems. This is crap, plain and simple. Christians, do not allow the Progressive and Communist agendas to intimidate your belief system. Government cannot and should not solve economic and social problems within a community. We Christians have become apathetic and lazy and allowed ourselves to let Progressive agendas into our midst. The cure is to solve economic and social problems as close to the suffering as possible – locally. Please remember that Progressive and Communist agendas are cloaked in “helping the under privileged” when in fact these agends throw money at the under privileged and by doing so purchase their self respect and dignity (and also their vots). Progressivism and Communist promote serfdon, not self hood.

Sue   March 12th, 2010 - 8:52 am

What is social justice and economic justice? It’s a great game the Progressives and Communists play through throwing our tax dollars at the “under privileged”. Therefore, our tax dollars buy their votes for a system of government we don’t believe in. Pretty clever, huh? Our tax dollars are also funding a class of our fellow citizens who have become slaves to the Progressive movement. Sad. Too bad we Christians became lazy and allowed the Progressive agenda disguised as helping fellow citizens into our midst. We should be out in the community locally and shun all $ from Progressive organizations.

happy   March 12th, 2010 - 8:54 am

But I do not want my CHURCH talking politics and I do not want my gov talking church either.

ONE MAN’S ‘SOCIAL JUSTICE’ IS ANOTHER MAN’S EXTORTION.

Mick   March 12th, 2010 - 9:40 am

Beware the wolf in sheep’s clothing!

But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.” He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

Beware the one who walks among Jesus’ disciples, pretending to care for the poor, but instead is using the poor as a means for other ends. Sometimes it’s money, other times it’s power…as in political power. Mr. Wallis, do you know anyone who pretends to have the mercy of Christ, but really is driven by a political agenda…driven by power to reach his political ends? Take a look in the mirror, Judas!

mac691   March 12th, 2010 - 9:50 am

Social Justice is just another step on the way to Marxism. The Progressive movement has used this moniker to hide the fact that what they are seeking is totalitarianism. Wallis is another in a long line of phony Christians. I normally do not make such statements, as a Christian myself, but I have had it with people like Wallis who totally misrepresent the mission of Jesus. Jesus call was for “individuals” to accept him and to follow him. He never ever made a statement supportive of the Progressive way of operations. If govt force is your method of instituting Christianity, then it really isn’t a voluntary act, is it. Therefore, there is NO salvation involved. But hucksters like Wallis don’t care a whit about your salvation. They only care about their Marxist agenda, which by the way, considers Wallis a “useful idiot.”

yourplastic   March 12th, 2010 - 9:53 am

Hahahaha – a progressive trying to tell Christians how they should be Christians…hahahaha! No seriously that was really funny! hahahaha!

DO NOT BE DECEIVED
I know all about these ‘Christians’ I was one of them when I was a teen (I joined MCR in another Country, MCR =Christian Revolutionary Movement).

These people are Marxist-Leninists: they preach from inside Christian Churches, just like Camilo Torres (one of Obamas’ heroes) did.

They speak of Justice and HOPE (often using the color GREEN to indicate that HOPE is their message)…but they are like WATERMELONS: GREEN outside COMMUNIST RED INSIDE.

LatinAmerica has had its share of these scumbags.

Mr. Right   March 12th, 2010 - 9:56 am

Social, racial and economic justice does not mean throwing other peoples money at individuals the left thinks are more deserving.

I have to thank Fox news for educating me about Jeremiah Wright and his Black Theology Church, Obama’s church. I never knew this kind of church existed. I guess I lived in a cocoon of sorts, but this was the first time I had seen a radical, politically based church that differed so vastly from the teachings of Christ. I think that Beck was correct to expose these churches, and educate the population of what ‘catch phrases’ to be wary of. I don’t believe Christ’s teachings should be hijacked for a political agenda. Wallace is another Jeremiah Wright, just in a different package.

Jim Wallis does not understand a thing about the gospel. He is following one of the other jesus that Jesus mentioned. He is a heretic preaching a gospel other than the real Gospel of Salvation.
I suggest Jimmy Boy read the bible at least once before talking about it from his Cliff Note edition.

H2K   March 12th, 2010 - 11:01 am

Wha’ tha…?
….most Christians believe social, economic, and racial justice are at the heart of the gospel.

This is a perversion of the many sermons I have listened to.
1) Christians believe that all are created equal. There is no mention of color.
2) Christians believe in charity. They don’t believe in a government that forces redistribution based on political paybacks. They don’t believe that a large percentage of a voluntary contribution should fund a huge government overhead.
3) WTF is social justice anyway?

Who besides Jesus could arbitrate this justice?

This is all gobble-dee-guk.

ilovefreedom   March 12th, 2010 - 11:03 am

I didn’t know that social justice was in the Bible. Can anyone show me where the Bible says take a mans money by threat of jail time to give to the poor. I thought we are supposed to give because we love God and his children not because the IRS is going to come and get me if I don’t.

Puck 30   March 12th, 2010 - 11:08 am

Donald Duck   March 12th, 2010 - 11:17 am

The term “social justice” was first spoken and written about by Karl Marx. It is code for “redistribution of wealth”. Pope Benedict XVI first encountered this when he was known as Father Joseph Ratzinger and a theology professor at the University of Tubingen in the late sixties when student riots swept through Europe inspired by lefist radicals attempting to force communism upon the continent. The radicals threatened him and others who spoke out against social justice and other Marxist concepts. Having grown up under Nazi control, he knew then that it was a dangerous concept as it allowed the government to take by force from one group of people and give it to others.

Wallis, et.al. and, of course, the supreme social justice minister, Barack Obama, are attempting the same kind of revolution that swept Europe in the late sixties. We must do as Fr. Ratzinger did; reject the preachings of the Marxists who have infiltrsted our government and all aspects of our lives. OUR REVOLUTION WILL BEGIN ON NOVEMBER 2, 2010: VOTE, VOTE, VOTE.

RogerCfromSD   March 12th, 2010 - 11:51 am

The liberation theologists who push the social justice meme AREN’T preaching the Bible. They are pushing a political agenda.

So, Beck is 100%. They aren’t Christian group in the normal sense, but yet another extension of the Democrat Party.

Dietrich Eckart was Adolph Hitler’s Nazi Party “preacher”. Read up on how he justified National Socialism to the masses of Christian Germans by quoting Biblical verse……

Chattmom   March 12th, 2010 - 12:27 pm

This man is a white Jeramiah Wright. If this man and others like him spent as much time in the communities trying to really help the poor in this country we would not have any poverty. Instead they take the money and use it in the political arena or pocket it to feed their ego not the poor. This man is no Christian, he lives off the benefits that a free capitalistic society provides him and spends all his air spouting hate for that country. Let him go to the middle east and live. True Christians do not need churches with ordinary men speaking. Faith in God is a personal relationship. Faith comes from the heart and soul that many leftist will never feel because they try to experience it with their brain. The left will be defeated again in this country because there are enough real Christians to stand up against those who try to pervert the teachings of God.

Juan   March 12th, 2010 - 12:30 pm

After the Republicans defeated the Democrats in 2002 this is the same guy that met with the Democrats behind closed doors to teach them what they should believe in. WHAT A HOOT!

kmichaels   March 12th, 2010 - 1:15 pm

A few key issues.

1) Government forced socialism is not Christian.
2) Christian giving is supposed to be voluntary.
3) Socialism fails time and again.
4) Voluntary giving never fails (charity never faileth)
5) Stealing from your neighbors does not benefit them or the poor that you pander to.
6) Liberals hate Christians, generally speaking, so why pretend that you care either way?
7) Social voluntary kindness is not the same as forced governmental socialism.
8) Socialism necessarily steals from free will and justice.

kmichaels   March 12th, 2010 - 1:25 pm

One of the most infamous social justice promoters in the USA was a guy by
the name of Jim Jones. He supported the local democrats and they shared
similar goals for quite some time. We all remember what happened to he

TO: Gary March 12th, 2010 – 7:30 am

Dude, Gary – Lay off the Jdog for Pete’s sake (See: jdog March 12th, 2010 – 2:45 am ). As it relates to THE TOPIC AT HAND, Jdog is 100% correct. The Liberals pervert the concepts of charity and giving by replacing government for God and punitive legislation for personal choice and faith which are essential to giving/receiving, sowing/reaping, and otherwise activating spiritual gifts, principles, and promises.

Now, if you were operating out of the same heart of love you were advocating, tempered with patience, longsuffering, wisdom, and discernment, you would have picked up on that. Instead, you revert to type, point your finger, and piously yet pompously quote scipture like some Pharisitical acolyte of old, the very same who used SCRIPTURE to accuse our Lord. And this is the #1 reason unbelievers continue in their umbelief, because they primarily see Christians doing exactly what you just did: judging and blaming and quoting scripture like a verbal machine-gun, mowing down any poor soul unlucky enough to be in the line of fire.

I IMPLORE you to dig deep and repent, brother. An apology is due the Dog.
Also, I lovingly and highly recommend anyone reading this post to LOOK UP AND GO SEE “LORD, SAVE US FROM YOUR FOLLOWERS”, an honest soul-searching perspective on unconditional love and the healing of humanity.

kmichaels   March 12th, 2010 - 2:11 pm

Charity, the pure love of Christ, cannot be instituted by government edict.

frank   March 12th, 2010 - 2:16 pm

The bible says: “For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: If a man will not work, he shall not eat.” 2Thes 3:10. Social justice says, we should support them, take from those that work and give it to those who don’t. The bible says “six day you shall labor and do all your work” Ex 20:9; Social justice says: free social security disability, medicare, and obamacare. The bible says, “work with your hands so that you will not be dependent on anybody” 1Thes 4:11; Social justice says: tax those who work hard to pay for those that don’t. Let there be no confusion about the christian perspective, laziness is condemned in the bible more than drunkenness. Social programs were meant for those WHO WERE TRULY DEPENDENT not for just anyone. Social programs has turned into a black hole and everyone has their hand out for a free check.

Religion Is Freedom   March 12th, 2010 - 4:11 pm

It hurts when your wrong dude. Come on government matters have no place in religion. God is the only thnig you should be preaching. What God says about Charity and Honesty and etc. Religion is seperate and does not nor should it be supportive of any government programs. Individuals may do what they want outside of their religion. We all left England on a boat to get away from King’s governing religion. In history it states that the relief picture images carved into the huge churches were for the people because they could not read. Then the preacher would tell them his interpretation of the Bible. So they went along blindly because they could not read and there was not a printing press. We left to America and now we read. We are individuals for freedom of religion and seperation of church and state.

Liz   March 12th, 2010 - 4:50 pm

So this is the new Father Coughlin!!!

The Liberal Mind   March 12th, 2010 - 6:13 pm

It’s really not that interesting to watch the Socialist/Marxist/Progressive Democrats lose touch with America. That’s because the plotline is exactly the same.as the way Republicans followed their radical right wingers – the ultra-religious Moral-Majority hypocrites, which were as far radically Right as the Progressive Socialist Marxist are Left! The difference is that the Conservatives got control of their radical element before it destroyed the party completely.

The Democratic party is currently possesed by insular Socialists from big cities and the coasts that see themselves as part of the “great Democratic Progressive Movement”. They neither understand nor sympathize with moderates or the values of true Democrats or true Liberals. They have their own cherry-picking pollsters, their own media and activist cocoon, their own plans to lavishly spend borrowed money to buy votes.” And they have Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid at the wheel of this careening, out of control political machine while Obama sits in the backseat giving driving directions.

If any of you think the Agenda of these Socialist/Marxists is “Liberal?” I’ve got news for you, it is not!

I am sick and tired of these Socialist/Communists that have stolen and distorted the definition of Liberal and Liberalism. Liberals do not endorse Socialism, Marxism or Communism. Liberals do not endorse any broad government powers that punish, restrict or impinge upon any individual, any business, or human endevor that leads to societal progress. In fact Liberals resist vehemently any government, religion or individual attempting to do so. Liberals do not accept collectivism as a means to social and economic justice.

Conservatives do not like to be lumped into the same group as Klansmen, Neo-Nazis, the Militias, or the whacked out likes of Timothy Mcveigh, or religious zealots like David Koresh, so please stop lumping true Liberals with the Socialist/Marxists.

Just because Liberals and Conservatives have completely different opinions on various issues such as abortion, the death penalty, social programs, the enviroment, gay marriage, etc, that doesn’t mean the great majority of us support the Socialist/Marxist ideology of this Administration.

These Socialist/Marxists that have hijacked the Democrat Party are not Liberals. True Liberals (not the Progressive Socialist/Marxist kool-aid drinkers) voted overwelmingly for Scott Brown in Massachusetts. I’m also sure that much to the chagrin of Conservatives that now think the Tea Party Movement now belongs to the Republicans, there are quite a number of “Liberal” Tea Partiers.

Glenn   March 13th, 2010 - 12:35 am

I know I’m gonna cause trouble, but I want to ask all you out there, seriously, don’t you think that invoking divine support for your cause really takes the whole concept of reason off the table in the first place? I mean, if god wants it, what else do you really need to know? Your own principles aren’t really driving your evaluation of the case at hand, rather you are relying on an authority figure/god who really calls the shots anyway, so your understanding of the world and your place in it is really irrelevant.

The scary thing about that world is that a government which claims divine authority to do this can claim divine authority to do anything – and many of them do so every moment of every day. To mix the ethereal and practical in this way is surely the road to ruin.

Bottom line, social justice as a political theory (look it up, there seem to be lots of people commenting on this site who haven’t read John Rawls, his work, A Theory of Justice, resulted in him being awarded the American Medal of Freedom Award in 1998, at which Bill Clinton claimed that his work had “saved democracy”. Without any mention of god, it has it’s own logic and view on morality that one can quite readily evaluate without getting god involved at all, thank you, and truthfully, I’m getting really tired of all this god talk all the time from conservatives – it’s like trying to smoke in public anymore. Some people really don’t like smoke, I really don’t like talk of religion and god all the time when it comes to our politics. For more from me, check out my website http://www.libertariancomment.com
