Hi Scott I heard you on Quinn the other day.
There may be something I can add to this story. Professor Thibeault mentioned he is totally apolitical. I have an article from Prof. Mary Graber (Prof. of English) from the Pope Center where she says:
It’s not that I sought to be political when I returned to school in the 1990s to earn my Ph.D. I soon discovered, however, that political neutrality—even in literary studies—is suspect.

The simple truth is that it is outfits like FIRE or conservatives who actually care about things like due process. It is no secret that these kinds of rules are enforced with a political double standard. When Professor Thibeault pointed out the problems with due process, it is possible that he went from being suspected of being an “evil conservative” as many apolitical professors are to being considered one. I cannot guarantee that this is the case obviously but if it is the case it would fit a pattern of behavior.
As a part of his contract you may wish to examine to see if it includes provisions for due process as they sometimes do. Since his due process rights were violated (which is nothing new on campus) it may also be a violation of his contract as well.
I was a student of Professor Thomas Thibeault and he was the greatest Professor in the College. He cared about his students and how well they performed. If you had any problems at home or at school, he was the Professor that tried to help in any way. Professor Thibeault was one of the most concerned professors at the college. His classes were very challenging, but he made students open their minds outside the pine trees of Swainsboro, Ga. He was never unprofessional with any student or faculty. It is a shame that good people have to suffer for selfish acts and malicious accusations to make themselves look good.
To everyone who hears this story, remember that how you treat people will come back to you in some form or fashion. When you set out to hurt other people, you may get away with it many times, but when the time is right you reap what you sow.
Just to touch base on Thomas… I went back to college @36 years old and Had Thomas for an instructor. He is so smart it isn't funny and he has 190% more class than most of the people that work there and tenfold over the students. The person who accused him of this (I was called … having graduated and moved out of state… by a student still going there) was flat out nasty. Hands down a slut. Thomas is the type of person that goes to Russia on vacation and has fun. When he returns to the real world he shares the experience like it is the most energetic occurrence of the 20th century. He teaches with this same flare. He remembers students for decades. Thomas also encouraged people to experience outside of the small hick town. That is not the type of are to preach that too. There are so many underlying things here. I love Thomas and I am so happy to have had the experience of being one of his students.
