Taking Aim at Apple, RIM Set to Launch ‘BlackPad’

Shares of BlackBerry maker Research in Motion are trading 3% higher after Bloomberg reported that the company is in the process of launching a table-style computer this Fall. Dubbed the "Blackpad", this new tablet is RIM's attempt at taking on the widely-successful iPad from Apple.

competition is a good thing it moves us forward …. brings down prices…. cool new stuff…. just a matter of time till obama figures out a way to muck it up with new taxes, and regulation, or a shake down

Shhhhh, old bareback might hear you and he only has one kind of list ya know. I'm already on it but then so is every american so screw it speak up.

I am sure that most people don't know that 90 % of the viruses created against Microsoft and other operating systems are created by Apple (Mac's) and their dedicated liberal followers.
(Sound familiar…. they are all alike… just like all of the liberals across the country)

Haven't you ever wondered why Mac's are hardly ever targeted by all of the viruses out there?

PLUS…Apple (Mac's) are run and supported by liberals (why do you think our school systems all across America have Mac computer systems in them. )

Just my humble opinion and an educated guess…. but I am always right about this stuff !!

Spanky2   July 31st, 2010 - 4:35 pm

I have the impression that most viruses come from places like China, Russia, Iran, etc. – where people don't really care about the Apple/PC battle.

Apple computers aren't targeted because they have such an incredibly small market share (less than 5%).

Why waste the effort to write a virus for a system that so few people use when you can spend that same effort and have a target of >85% of the desktop market?

Hope that it's cheaper without flaws…

Blackpad? Isn't that racist, like black hole or blackout? I thought the blackpad was the new name for the Bleak House.

And I'm going to agree with Spanky for once. Why write a virus to target a broke hipster who spent $1600 on a Macbook when most computers worth hacking run Windows.

I don't buy Apple stuff because I don't want to mess with two different OS. But this "Blackpad" thing–sounds cool!

dallenh   August 1st, 2010 - 11:50 am

ummmm "Black"pad. Do I hear the faint sound of the lefty racial drums starting to beat….?

BHO_UMM_UMM_UMM   August 1st, 2010 - 12:38 pm

Yeah, bad product naming. After the abject failure of Obama, people are going to think twice before going that route again.

Does the new BlackPad come with a lifetime warranty covering the cost of reparations?

Dave_in_Oregon   August 1st, 2010 - 5:54 pm

I should have clarified myself a bit more… I was referring to the time period from when Mac and Microsoft were engaged in a head to head battle for dominance in the computer business… the feud still remains.

Spanky2   August 1st, 2010 - 2:41 pm

I'm not sure of you point. Apple and Microsoft have always been at each others' throats.

It's quite a projection to assert as you did:

"I am sure that most people don't know that 90 % of the viruses created against Microsoft and other operating systems are created by Apple (Mac's) and their dedicated liberal followers. "
90% is an awfully huge percentage and I don't know how you could back that up.

BTW, one of the very first viruses was Elk Cloner, which was a boot sector virus written by an Apple user for the Apple II.

only if you earn less than $250,000, belong to a labor union, are "not" Caucasian, and can prove you voted for at least 2 Democrats in recent elections. If you can prove you are in the country illegally you get the BlackPad for free and repairs will be paid for by others.

“Custome OS” make me think “Symbian” and we know how that’s working out for Nokia. Blackberry needs to either overhaul their entire platform (its currently 5 years behind), or they should go Android/Win 7/ Something people will buy. RIM has already proved their inability to do great web browsing, isn’t that the whole point of a tablet?
