In Israel we keep our women in their place – at the back of the bus!

Why not more high-end prostitutes? Well, as you can see they would need to be White women to start off with and there are much few White women who will stoop to prostitution.

Holy cripes, you guys! One little pill did all that?

I’m thinking Sarah Palin didn’t have too many problems with her choices.

Himey   October 25th, 2009 - 11:26 am

LOL! Right, it was the pill that destroyed the school system and not the forced integration of Blacks! Keep chasing after those shadows! Keep being fearful of the truth.

Anyone want to take odds on those two being sized up for a frying pan when they shared that with their wives?

I can’t believe the bits/bytes of bandwidth wasted on this video. I wonder if my ISP will give me a refund. Other than the last 10 seconds, there was nothing but conjecture.
Why don’t women work 10 hours a week and make $250,000?
1) Some have morals
2) Some are not attractive and can’t command $500/hour
3) Some don’t mind working more than 10 hours a week.
4) Some would prefer to be professionals and not wh0r3s.
5) Some wh0r3s don’t have a good business sense, would need a p1mp – who would then beat the sh** out of her if she didn’t bring home the dough.

It’s not “freakonomics” – it’s stupidity.

CommonSense   October 25th, 2009 - 11:58 am

Well I for one am officialy a Womans Lib fan if it will lead to better more effective Protitutes. I am a big fan for Liberated Protitutes. LOL!

Vernis Magnetic   October 25th, 2009 - 12:25 pm

I read the first Freakonomics book and found it to be interesting. I do feel that these two jump to conclusions based on some research and evidence, but largely their imaginations.

If these two actually believe that women’s liberation is leading to the “new” type of prostitution, they need to visit some historical sites in Greece, Italy and Turkey. There have always been “low end” and “high end” prostitutes. I don’t know how liberated women were 2,000 years ago. It doesn’t look like anything has changed.

That history continues to repeat itself and some people act as if something new is happening, isn’t all that surprising. Schools are not doing a very good job in teaching history. What these two “professors” came up in regards to prostitution is an example of that.

Womens lib was and is destroying the home, children, society, and deficits. A few token women are placed in positions of visibility while service in areas like banking are deteriorating! Entitlement people whether women, blacks, or vets become complacent and in my opinion do not contribute to society at the level or quality of their previous male counterparts who worked and learned for their positions! We still haven’t recovered from the equal rights quagmire of the 80’s and 90’s.

jbone   October 25th, 2009 - 4:48 pm

its called the free market.. but i can’t afford these ladies (it’s just not fair)…barack has my vote if he can give us a public option (more competition, cheaper prices and wink, wink, better service)

anne   October 25th, 2009 - 5:54 pm

These guys are clueless. This vid was a waste of time. Why was it posted at all??

kadams   October 25th, 2009 - 8:21 pm

“the pill” wielded enormous impact in every aspect of humanity. It makes prostitution a valid business proposition because sexual activity is not linked with child birth.

mark   October 26th, 2009 - 2:46 am

theyre kinda half right with the decline of public education, the salary is so low, everyone capable of fleeing from that career path does so.

Don’t get your uterus in a bunch Mark. No need for name calling.

I’ve read Freakonomics and to be straight, i will never spend another buck on another book by them. It’s a complete waste of time reading their work. Their argument often worked against themselves. Most of their points are pure common sense if you ask me.

John Beeno   October 26th, 2009 - 9:53 am

OK that makes sense to me dude, I like it!

If you think about it, if prostitution were legal there would be droves of women that would choose to use their bodies in this fashion, which you would then have large groups of very wealthy very powerful women in a field that men cannot compete in. This scares the men in charge and they want to prevent it because they want to maintain the power for themselves. So if you look at it like that then prostitution is really a control over how women can use their bodies and nobody should be able to tell you what to do with your own body.
So long as prostitution remains illegal it would seem to me that women will always have a glass ceiling over their heads. Now that’s not saying that if it were legal that you would have to partake to be free, but it would take women out of the slums and out of the reach of pimps who use them to make money for themselves, and it would make a safer environment for women if they choose to perform their trade.

@Urilus,

“if prostitution were legal there would be droves of women that would choose to use their bodies in this fashion, which you would then have large groups of very wealthy very powerful women in a field that men cannot compete in.”

I disagree. If you legalized prostitution, and more women became prostitutes as a result, you’d end up with increased competition and the price would go down. It takes very little investment to become a prostitute (no education, etc…). Of course this would occur relative to the degree in which legalization would increase the activity. I’m not sure the impact would be that significant.

“it would take women out of the slums and out of the reach of pimps who use them to make money for themselves, and it would make a safer environment for women if they choose to perform their trade.”

Not necessarily. Because prostitution is illegal, law enforcement agencies can crack down and make arrests which lead to making busts on sex slavery especially rescuing children who have been abducted into it. I think there are examples of where it’s legal and heavily regulated such that there’s enough control to prevent some of this, but for example the recent initiative in San Francisco would’ve “legalized” prostitution is such a way that it definitely would’ve made things less safe for pretty much everyone.

Additionally, prostitution is inherently unsafe. You can argue that a woman should have the right to make the decision and take the risk with no laws making it less safe for her, but the act itself is inherently unsafe. If prostitution were legal, it would have a rippling effect through the sex worker industry. In other words, women who are pretty safe working in heavily regulated strip clubs would find that customers wouldn’t want to come in and pay to see them dance when for the same price they could have whatever sex they wanted with any number of women.

Again, there are all kinds of considerations on whether or not the government should be able to restrict what you can do with your body, and most people agree that we should all be as free as possible, but as a separate issue, legalizing prostitution wouldn’t have a net positive effect on safety, health, drug use, child slavery, etc…
