good for you Cho!!..Those of you who are nothing but a bunch of name calling, tunneled visioned republicans, that is why I left the party last year, after being a registered Republican since Reagan. I didn’t voted for McCain or Obama, or the third party candidate. the political process has degenerated into nothing but a viral, divisive, name calling, garbage collecting event, and as long as Americans continue to stay divided, and believe that those Americans that don’t think like you, are out to DESTROY the country, events like the recent Al-Qaeda major that killed our troops right under our nose, will continue to happen. A Nation divided will not stand, look at history. Some of you that drink talk-show “Kool-Aid”, are some of the most uninformed individuals on the planet. Come out of your bubble, and realize that those politicians, talk show hosts, etc. that have spewed this divisiveness, are capitalizing (Pun intended) on you, you continue to get angrier, they get richer, they have become your bible, and the more the republican party continues along these lines, the less success they will have at the polls. What will destroy our country is not, liberal legislation that is passed, it can be corrected by voters, it is the moral bankruptcy that exists now. Never mind the “Good ol Days”, they were not good for many Americans, in the 1940’s Japanese Americans were imprisoned, for most of the 20th century blacks couldn’t vote, eat in the same places as whites, or use the same public restrooms, hotels, etc. So the “Good ol days” for many Americans are a misnomer. If you are an American, be an American, if you think you have all the answers, then run for office and change things. Rush, Beck, Hannity, all know that they would never win any election, that is why they “Talk”.

The headline is misleading. Steele said, “I’ve been in the room with them (Republicans) and they’ve been afraid of me, and I’m on their side”. Did anyone hear him say, White? or White Republicans? I didn’t. The interviewer makes the statement that Republicans are afraid to talk to or engage blacks, and that’s when Steele makes his rather stupid statement of agreement about understanding that, because they’ve been afraid of (him) and he was on their side. OK~I have many friends. They are of a variety of races, and they have a variety of political opinions. Myself as a CONSERVATIVE, who more often than not votes Republican (sometimes good and sometimes the lesser of tow evils), I have no problem listening to and talking with my friends of any race and any background. I think the headline is provocative and unnecessary and I think Steele is trying to be too amenable in this interview, but let’s not mis-quote the guy, OK?

I’m a Conservative and I have no problem with what Steele said. I think this has been taken totally out of context. I believe that Steele is trying to do his best for the Republican party and sometimes missteps, but we all do that. Charlie Crist won the Governor seat in Fla, but he is NOT a Republican All Crist is is a career politician and he will sway with what ever it takes to get elected. Marco Rubio is an upcoming conservative darling, who will beat Gov Crist. You can take that to the bank.

I think what Mr Steele said is 100% true. Most republican candidates do not even attempt to address black voters.
Now it is absolutely true that the left has demagogued republicans as racists for so long that by most black people view republicans negatively. It is also true that republicans make it easy for the dems to demagogue them by not even trying to address black voters.
This is not to say that republicans should try and pander to black voters like the left does. But conservative principles work for black people just like anybody else and most black people are more conservative than they realize. The republican party will be a lot better off if it can articulate conservative principles and why they work to EVERYBODY even those that haven’t been their traditional audience.
I know why Steele is the RNC chairman. It is an outright lame republican strategy. (Sorry kmichales.) I don’t think he’s a bad guy, but I was a bit embarrased for him when he debated Tim Kaine on This Week Sunday morning. He doesn’t have the ability to sit back, collect his thoughts, then shred the witless liberal lie or brain-dead thought of his opponent.
Conservatives and Republicans should never EVER mention race in any comment – joking or not. Race is a polarizing issue in the US, and the further we stay away from it, after time, we may just have a chance to heal. Whenever some liberal wants to bait us into a race discussion, we should just passive/aggressively walk away. It’s a no win.

Let me get this straight Obama was elected to the highest office of this land because whitey is afraid of the black man? Some of the reactions on here are a little curious. Steele didn’t say that every white republican was a afraid of him. He said that he has been in the room with some people that have been. No matter how much it offends some of you, it is a fact that the party has a problem articulating a conservative message to minorities.
Alot of posters are quick to knock Steele because of his statement. I’ve been a conservative for a long time…attented Ronald Reagan rallies with the Gipper there in person. The fact of the matter is this: Is Steele a solid conservative? No. Is he the best person for the job? Maybe not. Did the interview above show two black men, who can relate to idea that sometimes white people in the Republican party are not used to a black man leading the Republican party, in the fight to defeat democrats? Yes…absolutely. Whether some people like it or not, conservatives are attracting more and more minorities because of the failed policies of the democrats. Micheal Steele helps to show that the Republican party welocomes people of ALL races. So you can call him a “token” if you want to, but the fact of the matter is that Republicans need as many minorities to vote for them as possible. Michael Steele may not be the most conservative acting leader of the Republican party, but neither are most of our Republican leaders. I’m sure Michael Steele, after seeing the fired up base in the Doug Hoffman NY-23 election, will be successful in leading the party to a success in 2010. Griping about him at one year from the 2010 elections will only hamper the Republicans. Maybe after the 2010 elections they can think about getting someone like Ralph Reed as leader.
Joey. You make some good points but I have a question for you: When is the last time you heard a white politician imply that some black voters might be afraid of supporting them? You don’t.
Bringing race into any political situation is baiting pure and simple. It is beneath the leader of a Party to even go there. A leader is supposed to suck up whatever criticisms come his or her way. They are supposed to bring their support together NOT divide it. It was wrong for Mr Steele to even bring race up.

A gentleman added a post on Saturday that suggested that people go to http://www.Dearpolitician.org to write your politicians. Of course, he made it sound too-good-to-be-true, but I checked it out and found it to be a legit website that is pretty cool. The one thing that caught my attention is that they had a section called “Things Americans Should Know”. The interesting thing about this section is that it has the complete, US Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and Pledge of Allegiance all in audio format. They have the text version, but face it, who reads all of those documents. They actually have all of those documents professionally recorded. I listened to all of them Saturday, after hearing the news of more American soldiers getting killed, I felt I could at least listen to the documents they list their lives to protect. I recommend everyone take the time to visit http://www.dearpolitician.org and listen to the most important documents we are all trying to protect.
