I suspect a lot of these screaming protesters are on Medicare, a government-funded program. And the notion of not covering all people including illegal immigrants is not wise. Do we want immigrants (legal or illegal) running around with antibiotic resistant TB? or swine flu? or VD? Protecting legal citizens involves treating the undocumented so they don’t spread any communicable diseases they might have.
The fact that the crowd – mob, really, had very few participants supporting health care reform is that these GOONS (Grand Old Operatives of the National Socialist party) have intimidated everyone else from attending. When citizens fear for their safety, it’s time for all GOOD Americans to stand up and be counted. We need to shame and embarrass these fascists back into the holes they climb out of.
When Specter stands before God, I’m sure God will tell him “good work” for getting the health insurance “PAY OR DIE” leeches off people’s backs.
I wonder what these people would have done to Jesus if he dare tell them to heal the sick, feed the hungry, clothe the poor, minister to the elderly, widows and orphans and visit prisoners.? It has been reported that sixty percent of this nation’s population is obese. That’s more than enough votes to boot out these corrupt politicians who pass laws they don’t even read. Anyone ever heard of taxation without representation? THAT is what we are seeing demonstrated in Washington, not democracy. I am not given to yelling and screaming, but I want to scream at someone, too, when I hear the politicians excuse themselves by saying the bill was a 1000 pages and they don’t have time to read that many pages before they vote. They are paid well (and provided the BEST health care and other benefits) and they should take enough time to represent us fairly, no matter how many pages are presented for reading. Let’s see, if they read 40 pages per day, they could have read the entire (important) package in 25 days. Seems that that would be a better way to spend their time than on talk shows trying to convince voters that they don’t have time to read it. It doesn’t take long for most people to read 40 pages.
If one watches this clip closely, one can see Spector’s mentally recalculating his response to the outburst. At first, he wanted to shut him up, but thought better of it. Then with a disconnected stare, Spector allowed the man to speak. One can see that Spector is placating him and after he angered the man, just let him rave; thereby diluting the protestor’s message and legitimate concern. It’s clear Spector made an on-the-fly decision to let this guy yell and then take credit for “allowing” a demonstration of democracy. Such a typical politician strategy to provide damage control in case the media pounded his poor reaction to a citizen’s sincere concern. Democracy is about each of us being “heard,” not just being allowed to speak.
Fatties, unite. Let’s join together and exercise our constitutional right to vote them out. There are more of us than them. (Although one fatty just became a leader of the health care reform, and another just became the latest member of our supreme court.) We could become a brand new voter block. And we should. Mark my word, Washington is coming after overweight people next. Wait until you see how much the insurance companies or the government health care program increases rates for those overweight–and it won’t matter whether it’s from medication weight gain, a legitimate psychological or physical medical problem, genetics, or simple overeating. Obesity will cost, big time. Unless of course, one is an illegal resident in our country…the likes of which will likely receive free medical care.
