Truly distasteful,
I guess Standards and Practices was out to lunch on this one, or are there separate Standards and Practices when it comes to lampooning Republicans vs. Democrats.

Dan, St. Louis USA   September 22nd, 2008 - 9:01 am

Score another one for McCain/Palin 08

Neal E   September 22nd, 2008 - 9:13 am

What I got from that skit was how moral-less the press is and that they will throw any allegation about Palin out there without substantiation.

Bob   September 22nd, 2008 - 9:14 am

A new low… what about the poor Palin girls who have to deal with SNL attempt at humor. It is a new low showing the true allegiance of SNL and its producers/writers of NBC. When will they learn that the American public will not stand for it.

Me   September 22nd, 2008 - 9:15 am

Funny if this skit was about Obama probably having some illegitimate kids in a Chicago ghetto you would have Sharpton, Jackson, everyone calling for boycotts, etc.

I am so over this double standard of it’s ok to make fun of country/white people but say one word in jest about any other race and well you might as well be Hitler himself!

But then again the reason there isn’t such an out cry is because I think most white people have the ability to not give words power over themselves and who they are or where they come from.

beverly   September 22nd, 2008 - 9:18 am

I don’t know how much more proof is needed that NBC is in the tank for Obama and the Dems.
This despicable skit and the general coverage of the election from NBC and the MSM has actually served 2 purposes. It has exposed the Democrat Party for what it is and it has steered voters to the Republican ticket … and as a Conservative…I thank them for it. waaaay to go and keep it up.

Dan Collins   September 22nd, 2008 - 9:19 am

I agree with Neal E that this is a riff on what a load of indolent, decerebrate putzes the staff of the NYT is.

AOK   September 22nd, 2008 - 9:23 am

Saturday Night Live has sunk to a new, pathetic low. I can see their numbers dropping with every perverted skit they try. There is no more cleverness and the clumsiness with which they carry out their work is so apparent. I tuned them out a long time ago. They are irrelevant,to say the least.

7. Senator Obama, did you use Joe Biden and his son Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden to bring false charges against Sinclair to try and protect yourself? Did Joe Biden blackmail you on his own?

Stephen   September 22nd, 2008 - 9:34 am

Take out that incest part about Palin and you have a pretty funny piece. It was a skit about the disconnect of the New York Times staff more than anything else; which most people who post comments on this site agree with.

I can’t say I’m surprised by the “nailing his daughters” remark from SNL, I’ve come to expect such wretched remarks from those “writers”. It would seem to me that they would eventually understand that those kinds of comments are not funny and they create a ton of bad publicity and that maybe in the future they should try to avoid them. The few people who laughed at it couldn’t possibly be worth the firestorm of criticism they received.

I’m tired of the scum of America taking tasteless vile potshots at good people. Here is a link, before you buy ANYTHING check the list and see if it is from a GE company.

I think the reaction to this SNL skit is as disingenuous as the reaction to some poor sap’s description of parsimony as “niggardly”. You can take it out of context and then fulminate over the issue of “incest” but then again, you mightn’t.
What I took away from watching the whole thing was a righteous skewering of whiny NYT-type pseudo-intellectuals asking the type of dumb-axx questions we’ve all come to expect from the Barbie-dolls of the “media”. It was funny and it pointed out the probably-typical prejudices of these isolated “Manhattan Islanders”. The epilogue was fluff but good for a predictable laugh, which is, of course, the object of SNL’s exercise.

claspur   September 22nd, 2008 - 10:29 am

Sue, sue suedio…
That clown at the podium slurred a word….prolly drunk.
SNL stinks…can’t even watch a full 90 minutes of it anymore.

T0AD   September 22nd, 2008 - 10:35 am

If you all didn’t notice this was a skit attacking the liberal media. Not the Palins. The fact that they threw the incest thing in their was like a “hey look how far they will go” kind of dig at the media.

Anyone else agree.

N Waff   September 22nd, 2008 - 10:46 am

================================
==== LIBERAL/DEMOCRAT = MORAL DEGENERATE ====
================================
The basic problem is, what normal moral people consider to be offensive, repulsive and immoral, liberal and democratcs consider to be humerous, entertaining and acceptable. This is especially true for Al Franken, who was writing these SNL skits. It’s frightening that he’s now a politician. This is also why people are having degerate sex on the streets of San Francisco (in what they call a block party) and Nancy Pelosi is not offended or phased.

You know it was liberal who tooks Christians and threw them to lions to be killed and devoured – and the liberals called it entertainment.

Lawrence Talbot   September 22nd, 2008 - 10:49 am

I guess I’m one of the few people who has never watched a complete SNL show. I guess I haven’t missed much. Al Franken s**ks Obama. How’s that for a SNL skit.

EILEEN   September 22nd, 2008 - 11:08 am

I heard that SNL was going to do a skit about Obama and incest (he has 2 young daughters) and include Michelle in it ….I wonder if the liberals will appreciate that as much as the skit on Palin

On your request for Obamas selective service record.

Obama said in an interview, when asked if he had ever considered serving. “well yes as a matter of fact I did….when I graduated highschool I signed up for selective service”

well it turns out that obama could not sign up for selective service at that time if he wanted to. as selective service was no longer in use, not again till 1981. this is a 100% confirmed lie that he can not back track on. Obama graduated in 1979. look up the selective service and its history and dates and also obamas quote on the matter and you will see it is correct.

LTM   September 22nd, 2008 - 11:25 am

A BRIEF BIT OF PALINETICS
From Stephanopoulos to Oprah, Olberman to Blitzer, they all have supported Hillary and mocked Palin. Now, think about it:
BOTH supported Bill Clinton’s bombing of Iraq for Saddam’s WMD. BOTH supported the Iraq War Resolution. BOTH supported the Patriot Act. BOTH supported both war spending supplements. Palin supported eavesdropping-Hillary called it immoral, then voted for it. Palin supported data mining-Hillary called it unconstitutional, then voted for it. BOTH supported the surge, but only Palin supported the General who made it work.
As everyone from N.O.W. to Code Pink rails against Palin for her positions, Hillary paid them lip service, then joined Palin with her votes. So I have to ask: Who is the smartest woman in America? Who took positions and stuck to them, only to have folks like Hillary change their minds and join them later? What does it mean when someone is out in front, then mimicked when push came to shove?

Did ANY of you actually see the skit? It was quite obviously ridiculing the wolfpack press which is out to dig up anything and everything on Governor Palin, even if it means making an unsubstantiated ridiculous charge and then trying to shape information to fit that charge.

THE SKIT MADE FUN OF THE PRESS! It was not mocking the Palins in any way. It used an absurd accusation to point out the absurdity of the media’s infatuation with Mrs. Palin. Is it really that confusing?

You guys are making me embarrassed to be a Republican. I mean really… go look at the poll on World Net Daily. Are most Republicans this stupid? It was a parody of the press!

Country First   September 22nd, 2008 - 12:14 pm

I stopped watching SNL a long time ago because it just isn’t funny.
The insinuation of incest in the Palin family is disgusting. Sounds like the writers are getting their ideas from reading posts on youtube.

SET N’ MATCH- I totally agree, Obama’s crack-smoking sex romps with Larry Sinclair, his affair with Donald Young, the murder of Young, the discrediting of Sinclair by a phony polygraph, the role of Biden and son should be known to the public.
It is all on youtube folks

gb8898   September 22nd, 2008 - 12:23 pm

Country First: Kinda funny how you ridicule stuff on YouTube and then proceed to cite evidence on YouTube in your next sentence.

Seriously, it’s getting embarrassing to be Republican.

Mulleted Southern Christian   September 22nd, 2008 - 12:24 pm

I aint never seen nothing so evil! We need the goverment to outlaw sinful TV. The demoncrats are resposible for this. Figures, they nominated a nigra muslim. White Power!

Dee   September 22nd, 2008 - 12:40 pm

Wow, I think you could parody the press without involving the kids in such a sick way. That’s a poor excuse and not funny. The press is a parody of itself every time it covers anything. Don’t need a TV show for that.

Set n' Match   September 22nd, 2008 - 12:44 pm

Now that the collapse has occurred, the roadblock built by Senate Democrats in 2005 is unforgivable. Many who opposed the bill doubtlessly did so for honorable reasons. Fannie and Freddie provided mounds of materials defending their practices. Perhaps some found their propaganda convincing.

But we now know that many of the senators who protected Fannie and Freddie, including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Christopher Dodd, have received mind-boggling levels of financial support from them over the years.

Throughout his political career, Obama has gotten more than $125,000 in campaign contributions from employees and political action committees of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, second only to Dodd, the Senate Banking Committee chairman, who received more than $165,000.

Clinton, the 12th-ranked recipient of Fannie and Freddie PAC and employee contributions, has received more than $75,000 from the two enterprises and their employees. The private profit found its way back to the senators who killed the fix.

There has been a lot of talk about who is to blame for this crisis. A look back at the story of 2005 makes the answer pretty clear.

Oh, and there is one little footnote to the story that’s worth keeping in mind while Democrats point fingers between now and Nov. 4: Senator John McCain was one of the three cosponsors of S.190, the bill that would have averted this mess.

Laura   September 22nd, 2008 - 12:55 pm

This was obviously a slam of the NY Times and the press in general (which I totally agree with by the way). Hilarious! For those of you who see this as an allegiance to Obama, I disagree, this helped McCain/Palin by showing how silly the articles have been concerning Palin. And how out of touch the NY Times has become.

Elite San Francisco Marxist   September 22nd, 2008 - 1:02 pm

Come on guys, you just dont understand the complexities of comedy. When I was at Berkely my professors showed me that mass media and government is the only way to make people see they need our help. I can only dream that someday there will be enough lawyers to help all the victims get some money from those greedy rich corporate warmongers!

The nerve of those ceos making money and creating jobs! Thats what government is for.

I hope i find a way to take you rmoney and plant more eco friendly trees with it.

DEugene   September 22nd, 2008 - 1:08 pm

Come on people…It’s not that hard to see where the mockery is aimed at in this skit, stop being so dense! The press can take a situation and totally distort it to meet their agenda and people fall for it every time! Get smart and start requiring more accountability from our journalists!

Set n' Match   September 22nd, 2008 - 1:09 pm

Bet you didn’t learn this from the profs at BERKLEY about the major media.

J.P. Morgan Interests
Buy 25 of America’s Leading Newspapers
and Insert Editors
U.S. Congressional Record February 9, 1917, page 2947

Congressman Calloway announced that the
J.P. Morgan interests bought 25 of America’s leading newspapers, and
inserted their own editors, in order to control the media.

“In March, 1915, the J.P. Morgan interests, the steel, ship building and powder interests and their subsidiary organizations, got together 12 men high up in the newspaper world and employed them to select the most influential newspapers in the United States and sufficient number of them to control generally the policy of the daily press in the United States.

“These 12 men worked the problems out by selecting 179 newspapers, and then began, by an elimination process, to retain only those necessary for the purpose of controlling the general policy of the daily press throughout the country. They found it was only necessary to purchase the control of 25 of the greatest papers. The 25 papers were agreed upon; emissaries were sent to purchase the policy, national and international, of these papers; an agreement was reached; the policy of the papers was bought, to be paid for by the month; an editor was furnished for each paper to properly supervise and edit information regarding the questions of preparedness, militarism, financial policies and other things of national and international nature considered vital to the interests of the purchasers.

“This contract is in existence at the present time, and it accounts for the news columns of the daily press of the country being filled with all sorts of preparedness arguments and misrepresentations as to the present condition of the United States Army and Navy, and the possibility and probability of the United States being attacked by foreign foes.

“This policy also included the suppression of everything in opposition to the wishes of the interests served. The effectiveness of this scheme has been conclusively demonstrated by the character of the stuff carried in the daily press throughout the country since March, 1915. They have resorted to anything necessary to commercialize public sentiment and sandbag the National Congress into making extravagant and wasteful appropriations for the Army and Navy under false pretense that it was necessary. Their stock argument is that it is ‘patriotism.’ They are playing on every prejudice and passion of the American people.”

J.P. Morgan was the proxy for the jewish Rothshild banking interests in Germany.

I don't need to think for myself--I have Rush Limbaugh for that...   September 22nd, 2008 - 1:27 pm

How dare the people at Saturday Night Live make such slanderous unfounded accusations! Rumor-mongering and libel have no place in the political discourse! I’m outraged!

OUTRAGED!!!

p.s. Barack Obama is a gay Muslim without a birth certificate. Pass it on!

Kurt   September 22nd, 2008 - 2:16 pm

Very pathic. If someone thought that was funny then this country has truely lost it’s moral compass. Hollywood go to hell.

RussRamey6   September 22nd, 2008 - 2:26 pm

Get over it you dimwits, SNL was making coarse humor at the expense of the Main Stream Media. Tasteless, of course it’s SNL. I found it to be a no holds bared comedic look at the shallow and cluesless MSM. It was obviously not funny regarding Gov. Palin, her family, but spoke for American values in Alaskans. I am sure many New Yorkers did NOT find it funny. It’s like a Monte Python skit creaming the Bloody Brits or Blake Edwards and the French with Inspector Clousou…get a grip people. Enjoy watching the demise of the liberal smug MSM…

Dan rielly   September 22nd, 2008 - 2:33 pm

Just more dirvel from the usual degenate demo pro sad actors. They always need the shock affect to try to be funny. Thats why they never suceed.

Will   September 22nd, 2008 - 2:35 pm

I thought the skit was very funny. It skewered the staff of the New York Times and made them appear out of touch. SNL has bashed Republicans before and will again, but this is not one those times. Great skit.

Nate K   September 22nd, 2008 - 2:37 pm

I am all for a good laugh but you have to look at both sides of the coin here, if a joke of this magnitude was directed towards ANY ethnic minority there would be hell to pay. Secondly, it will be tough to boycott GE, considering all the inustries they make a product in, but good luck on that.

MEDIA_SUX   September 22nd, 2008 - 2:47 pm

Um, yeah .. where are the Obama jokes on Saturday night live? Oh, riiight . they can’t do them, because if they made ANY joke about Obama .. whether he is haiving sex with his kids, or driving 50 cars .. it would be racist. I WANT TO SEE OBAMA JOKES!

This joke was gross! I don’t think ANYONE should be able to make fun of MEN OR WOMEN having SEX WITH CHILDREN. WTF ARE YOU THINKING.

Hey Saturday night Live .. lets put a towel on Obama’s head and make fun off his muslim relgion. Oh right, he would remove you from the air. DO IT I DARE YOU.

MCCAIN | PALIN 08

Fldoctor   September 22nd, 2008 - 2:58 pm

If one views the entire clip, it is patently obvious the SNL team was mocking the New York Times, its reporters and the elite Manhattan crowd that often suffers a “nose bleed” when “forced” to drive over a bridge or through a tunnel to leave the island.

Given that, the reference to incest is way over the line, and certainly inappropriate, regardless of which side of the isle one is on. However I could not ever imagine SNL doing a piece like this on Obama. That may happen now because of the outrage cause by this skit.

Regardless, SNL and the MSM bias shows in most reporting and articles. AP had a story about Plain’s speech in FL yesterday. The article said she had a large crowd, not giving the reader an indication as to how many, and then spent most of the article discussing Biden’s crowds of 2,000 at his rallies. They failed to let us know Palin drew over 60,000 at her rally near Orlando. No bias there???

I will be voting McCain/Palin

INCEST_NOT_FUNNY   September 22nd, 2008 - 3:17 pm

The REAL reason why everyone is upset – JOKES ABOUT INCEST IS NOT RIGHT. They could of done something else. Way out of pocket – poor taste – no matter who the target is.

Gregory Scott   September 22nd, 2008 - 5:10 pm

This would have been perfectly fine and even better if they left out the incest. It would make it more obvious to more people that the joke wasn’t about Palin, but about the New York Times’ staff of super-leftists. Clearly this was lost on many of you who reacted without thinking.

YumYum2008   September 22nd, 2008 - 5:38 pm

Let Hollyweird keep it up. They are better for the McCain campaign than ANYthing McCain could do. Half wits like Sandra Bernhardt, Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand can KEEP talking- I wouldn’t even discourage them. I am wondering why calling someone “white trash” is ACCEPTABLE and not considered to be racist or hate speech. Wonder what Al Gore is doing with his cash cow- carbon credits- now that his fellow thieves at Lehman are going out of business. Who will promote his fraudulent money making scheme now?

Wondering   September 22nd, 2008 - 6:18 pm

The Tina Fey skit mocking Palin was truly funny, artful, well done, but whose idea was this distasteful stuff about incest?!?!

Incest is no laughing matter.. Whoever created this stuff should be severely censured… or dismissed…

There may be questions about Palin and her family, but until or unless there is any proof about allegations, such stuff is really over the line.

Germain Salazar   September 22nd, 2008 - 6:43 pm

It’s beyond my imagination to what level the so called inteligentia has sunk. Only the populated sewers of the media can find such objectionable topics -Incest- fit to pollute the airwaves. God have mercy on my Dear United States of America. The lengths to what some people in their quest for power have gone, calls for every decent individual of this country to rise in protest and demand the authorities find and prosecute the authors of such despicable behaviour. What these thugs are doing is not exercise of FREEDOM, but abuse of it.

jammer   September 22nd, 2008 - 7:53 pm

Wow is right. And I suppose Palin just stood by and let him do it! What kind of mother is that. I cant belive anyone would vote for her.

Eileen   September 22nd, 2008 - 9:10 pm

Skit written no doubt by one of the “young” “irreverant” “ultra-liberal” “left wing” new Democrats.

You know it really saddens me when I view the audiences that go to these Flim Flam Obamaman rallies…mature citizens…what is wrong with you? Why do you support this man, his anti-American friends and the sleazey, irreverant followers of his. Do you know anything about what is happening to the Democratic party? Do you realize they would prefer a socialist government over democracy? Wake up senior citizens! You are about to be thrown under the bus!

If you are an old time “working class” Democrat…take a look at your new party! Take a look how they so easily smear the candidates. Everyone, should be appalled by not only what was allowed to be said on this network, but that it was directed at the children of these candidates!

It is classless and tasteless. It delves in garbage and smut! It is the beginning of the end of the Democratic party of my parents/grandparents. They are a disgrace to our nation and the people who formed the Democratic party in the beginning…I am sure they would have never envisioned that their party could have slumped so low into the gutter!

If you are one of those Democrats who don’t like what you see, you are welcome, welcome to join the Republican party. A party of values, morals, commitment and conviction. We only choose the best of the best to be our candidates!

You can start by voting, with me, for the next President of the United States, President Elect McCain and his running mate President Elect Palin. Together they will bring the reform and changes America wants and needs!

The Democratic crazies can say what they want…they are just revealing who they truly are…sleeze…cheap sleeze…with a vision to turn our democratic way of life into a Socialist Nation. If they want socialism, let them go to Cuba!

This election is a fight for democracy! It is a fight for freedoms! The Flim Flam Obamaman and his new party of Democrats are waging war in America! A war between good and evil and good will always win over evil!

“FLIM FLAM”: DECEPTION, FRAUD, DOUBLE DEALING.

Janet   September 22nd, 2008 - 9:25 pm

This is sickening! What is even worse is that I would never had known about it except for the Drudge Report. NBC should be called down on this one. It is despicable and a disgrace. What has become of the Democrats that my parents/grandparents belonged to? Or am I supposed to call the party members DEMOCRATICS! The Clintons are responsible for first of all – splitting the country and now they have split the party. What will they do next?

Carolyn   September 22nd, 2008 - 11:57 pm

In light of the fact that NBC is struggling in the ratings and the NY Times and it’s secular progressive columnists losing readership, this truly IS a parody of the MSM! McCain – Palin ‘08 !!!

Matt   September 23rd, 2008 - 4:35 am

Oh come on… it was clearly a ridiculous and totally out-of-bounds claim, but that’s precisely the point. The media takes any claim gathered from an email or blog entry about any candidate and states it, followed by an admission that it’s not proven, but it’s not disproven, so it remains “one of the lingering questions.” Then it gets picked up by other media outlets, blogs, commenters, etc… distorted, and further legitimized through repetition.

Try watching the whole video… Palin is not the point. She was referenced because she’s the flavor of the week for the media.

The really funny thing is that people are latching on to the incest thing like it was an actual claim. They’re doing exactly what SNL was making fun of.

Nel Reif   September 23rd, 2008 - 1:48 pm

This is the most disgusting, dispicable thing I have seen in a long time. SNL used to be fun to watch. I have watched it for the last time.

If I was the Palin’s, I would sue, sue, sue. How much lower can people go.

God Bless the Palins and their family. Anyone related to them is really lucky.

American Intellectual   September 25th, 2008 - 1:04 pm

Sadly, the majority of these comments simply confirm that a significant portion of the US is emotionally and intellectually stunted. As others suggested, try watching the *entire* skit. Your knee-jerk reactions are an even better joke than the skit itself, since they confirm that baseless accusations are themselves news.

Of course Todd Palin is not even remotely likely to have engaged in incest. To suggest such a thing would be horrible. As you watch the *entire* skit, you will notice that this is not what the skit suggests. The skit blatantly puts forth the idea that the press will feed baseless rumors.

One might ask why they chose not to do this same skit attacking Barack Obama. Good question and here is the answer:

Because baseless claims about Barack Obama have already become passe, while similar claims about Sarah Palin are more current and topical.

also

Because the even funnier joke about New Yorkers who never get beyond Manhattan, let alone the five boroughs, would not have been as effective if aimed at Barack Obama, since he is supposedly an “Eastern elite”.

So, since few of the readers of this site can think, let’s review shall we?

This skit had two points:
1. The press is fond of baseless accusations posing as “news”.
2. The press is so thoroughly elite that they cannot even get out of New York.

Sarah Palin is the most appropriate subject for these two points because:
a. She is the most recent target of baseless accusations.
b. She is from a place and culture completely unlike that of New York.

So, is it worth being upset by this? Probably not, since it serves nothing but confirming the point that people react to baseless claims.

Was it in poor taste? Perhaps, though only if taken out of context. Besides, what do you expect from SNL?

Has Barack Obama had similar “comedy” scenarios aimed in his direction? Yes. Please see the cover of the New Yorker magazine, 21 July 2008.
