Nice, Santorum. Nobody's perfect but we do need someone with an Earth based budget.

No more big schemes from the only guy who also went bankrupt during this campaign.

Uhhhh, I remember a Presidential Candidate some decades back mentions something about beating the Russians to the Moon. We did it. So what's wrong with Mitt saying it? Oh I know Mitts not a Democrat.

Santorum defends his use of earmarks

Washington has a spending problem. Tax cuts don't increase deficits anymore than tax increases decrease deficits. Deficits are decreased by spending less. I wonder how many of the folks who quote this nonsense have ever budgeted their own money. If they find they are spending more than they take in, do they demand raise from their boss?

No President of the United States can create either a budget deficit or a budget surplus. All spending bills originate in the House of Representatives and all taxes are voted into law by Congress. This means Bill Clinton did not balance the budget, the Republicans did.

America…the only 'real' conservative in this race…Rick Santorum wants the space program restored as it should be…but to come out and say 'let's go to the moon' when we are in such an economic depression…puts his priorities in order…and going to the moon isn't one of them at this present time!

HE WILL WIN…WITH OUR HELP!
HE CAN WIN…WITH OUR HELP!
HE NEEDS OUR HELP TO HELP HIM DO IT…WILL YOU HELP HIM AND ENCOURAGE HIM IN SENDING HIM DOUBLE WHAT YOU YOU SEND TO ALL THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY COME AND GONE…BECAUSE HE IS STILL HERE…AND WE NEED HIM TO BE!

I think you'd fit in right well on that Moon base Newt wants to build.

nceeno   January 27th, 2012 - 8:43 am

Durbin and Franken heros?
Holy crap.

nceeno   January 27th, 2012 - 8:46 am

We can't afford to send an atronaut into a low earth orbit.
The moon? LOL.

Maybe if we prioritized our money and quit pissing in the wind, we might be able to afford a rocket or two.
There is a lot of energy on the moon. We'll fiddle fart around until the Chinese get there and the UN declares the moon theirs.

Washington76   January 27th, 2012 - 8:46 am

I do not think I would say that, but they did stand with the constitution.

Washington76   January 27th, 2012 - 8:46 am

YEP!

There have been a plethora of moon base proposals in SciFi stories and speculative fact articles for a long as I can remember. What are the common elements?

Staging area for Solar System Empire Military baseColony

At such time as we have colonies on Mars, the Galilean Satellites of Jupiter, and the asteroids we will of course have base on the moon. Mars is a whole planet with an atmosphere. We will want to go there and the asteroid belt for their resources. Even if we had no other interest in the moon and were only interested in further points, we would almost certainly need a base on the moon. However the moon as a staging base is probably to expensive to justify just as a necessary expense as part of a Mars oriented national strategy. This is near the end of this century.

We and many other nations rely on our orbiting assets. We won't want them shot down. When that becomes a problem – and it will, the moon begins to look like a military asset. This is at least twenty years away. Iran is threatening the Straits of Hormuz this week. There is every reason to expect it would likewise threaten our orbiting assets but not for a couple decades.

A moon base has to be self sustaining colony. Gingrich has proposed tourism. I just hope they don't hire Captain Schettino as the ship's master.

In the late fifteenth century the "New World"was the Americas. The Spanish got lucky and found a lot of gold. The French built their New World empire on animal skins. The English on tobacco. None on tourism. Today tourists are businessmen and their families who tire of dressing up for work everyday so they travel to some beach and loll about half naked. Or they could opt for being sealed in space suit and live underground on the moon in a sterile environment for a couple weeks. I'm sure some people will be eager to pony up a million dollars for such a trip but will it be enough?

All our original settlers in Massachusetts and Virginia came here to avoid religious persecution or to try to get rich. Those are powerful motivations – much more powerful than bored billionaires seeking another vacation venue.

In recent years there has been a discovery that has made lunar colonization much easier. There seems to be water ice at the poles. Without this water source lunar colonization would probably be impossible for a century or more. It just cost too much to raise water out of the earth gravity well.

I don't want to rain on Gingrich's parade but a moon colony proposal at this time sounds like Solyndra – exciting, daring and impractical.

Don't forget Harkin and the Socialist Sanders. This is definitely an issue for the most "fringe." That list definitely represents the most "extreme" non-establishment senators we have. Maybe Ron Paul is right, if conservative America would stand for him over Obama, he could steal enough votes from Obama's left to win the election.

Tea Party Express Bus Is Rolling Through Florida

“Rallying for Victory” Tour to Bring Tea Party Issues to the Fore

Jacksonville, FL – Tea Party Express, the nation’s largest tea party political action committee, is excited to announce the launch of its “Rallying for Victory” bus tour through Florida. The tour will start this Saturday, January 28th and will make six stops up and down the Sunshine State.

Amy Kremer, Chairman of the Tea Party Express, said, “The Tea Party Express is here rallying for victory against the policies of Barack Obama and the Harry Reid-led Senate. The current Administration has showed zero leadership and interest in listening to the voice of the American people. Our ‘Rallying for Victory’ tour through Florida will be an exhibition of the Tea Party’s strength and determination in pursuing and promoting Tea Party values.

“Florida is a key state in the presidential election campaign and one in which the future direction of the country could be determined. This will be the place to reject the Obama policies of promoting his big government, liberal policies that have killed job growth and added trillions of dollars of debt. It is critical to have an energized and engaged Tea Party electorate, just like we saw in 2010 as the Tea Party movement elected more Republican state legislators since 1928 and more Republican congressional representatives since 1948.

“Our ‘Rallying for Victory’ bus tour will bring together local and national Tea Party activist to raise awareness of the Tea Party movement and the conservative principles that will put this nation back on the path to prosperity. It is an opportunity to inform the American people that there is a free-market solution to get the economy on the right track and that the president’s actions have not accomplished what he has promised,” Kremer concluded.

The Tea Party Express plans to make stops in Jacksonville, Winter Park, West Palm Beach, The Villages, Gainesville, Panama City and Pensacola. The Tea Party Express will be joined by conservative leaders from across the country and will provide a platform for Presidential candidates to present their Tea Party qualifications. The organization is directing the public to its website (www.TeaPartyExpress.org) for the details of the stops. http://www.teapartyexpress.org/press-releases

How absolutely short sighted for any of our national and political leaders not to support a vigorous and expansive United States space exploration program. One of the monumental imprints of Mankind shall forever be Neil Armstrongs Immortal Footprint upon that alien, lunar, extraterrestial world. This was the fulfillment of President Kennedy's dream and indeed, one of Mankind's Greatest Achievements!!!

Our species, by nature, is an inquisitive and explorative species. It is in our DNA. It is an essential and primal part of our instincts for survival. We shall aim forever towards the unexplored horizons. By our nature, we have never been a species of limitations.
