Report: Swine Flu May Cause 90,000 U.S. Deaths

Bloomberg: Swine flu may infect half the U.S. population this year, hospitalize 1.8 million patients and lead to as many as 90,000 deaths, more than twice the number killed in a typical seasonal flu, White House advisers said. In a report by the President’s Council of Advisers on Science and Technology, President Barack Obama today was urged to speed vaccine production and name a senior member of the White House staff, preferably the homeland security adviser, to take responsibility for decision-making on the pandemic. Initial doses should be accelerated to mid-September to vaccinate as many as 40 million people, the advisory group said.

Satan said it best, “yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.”

Who did you really think was behind ‘health care’?

LOL :O) Big Smile, Big Smile !!

Everything you have, or ever will have, you will give to suck one more breath. Won’t you?

Or, is this you…

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

You ARE one or the other!

conservativeandproud   August 24th, 2009 - 8:24 pm

and I thought Bush was the only president accused of fear-mongering. This is just a distraction to get the failed BO health care bill out of the news.

Biscuit   August 24th, 2009 - 8:28 pm

Sorry but I just don’t trust anyone that is associated with this administration. Obama and Rahm are hoping this will be another crisis they can enjoy.

Bad socialist bad!

FastFacts   August 24th, 2009 - 8:31 pm

Could this be like Global Warming, where they are blowing everything out of proportion in order to pass socialized medicine and for others to keep their socialized medicine. An article a few days ago, on http://www.americanparchment.com reported that there were a few countries turning their medical systems into more capitalistic systems to increase the efficiency and decrease the wait times. Would this be the type of catastrophe that Rahm Emanuel said you should never waste. Instead they will pass their leftist ideology.

I’m very worried…..especially for the young….start having them eat fresh vegetables and get plenty of rest so they will have some resistance…..don’t depend on the government….and don’t bother with those silly masks unless you already have the flue, they will help you from spreading it but won’t help in preventing it…..they say the virus goes right through those masks

Misty   August 24th, 2009 - 8:49 pm

The government is fear-mongerring and I don’t trust them either. There have been 25 deaths in the U.S. from the vaccine itself. Do your own research and decide if it’s worth risking your life to take the shot. Never trust the government with your health care or well being. I believe the swine flu is being used to distract people from Obama’s radical agenda. Wake up Americans and be informed.

Eddie   August 24th, 2009 - 8:56 pm

No thanks, I’ll pass. As with most flu bugs, this one is most dangerous with the young as well as the aged. Use common sense (something our government does not do) and practice good hygiene and it’ll be no more dangerous than any other flu. I agree that there is scare mongering amongst our “leaders”.

Nope. Not buying.   August 24th, 2009 - 10:11 pm

Here we go…Swine Flu distraction. Just in time for Health and Cap and Trade votes. It’s a FLU..big freaking deal.

DDuke   August 24th, 2009 - 10:34 pm

That is such bull. This is a classic setup. Create a non-existent crisis and then implement draconian measures to “fix” it. 30,000 a year die from regular seasonal flu now. So far we have seen 350 deaths in the US from “swine flu”.

Does this relate to the ads on the army.gov website for jobs in internment and detention camps? I guess we will see as the year progresses.

GlobalObserver   August 24th, 2009 - 10:45 pm

I urge everyone at ACORN to take the vaccine, assuming it has the same success as the one did under the Ford Administration.

GlobalObserver   August 24th, 2009 - 10:48 pm

On the other hand, I think the Obama administration is exaggerating. I don’t think the vaccine is actually going to kill 90,000 people.

kmichaels   August 25th, 2009 - 2:05 am

Or it could be about 1000 deaths and that is about it. Their projection is intended to stir up fear and more reliance on the government.

Larse   August 25th, 2009 - 2:55 am

I suggest that all Democrats get their flu shots and follow all the other Obama administration recommendations. Republicans are real tough and brave so let them be that 90,000 who die :D

Niles Lesh   August 25th, 2009 - 9:05 am

The P – CAST ? (President’s Council of Advisers on Science and Technology)

what a blatant ripoff !

Airwick   August 25th, 2009 - 10:25 am

The ignorance of you people is just astounding. Usually reading comments on Breitbart is a little annoying and often a source of humor. Now, however, you are acting stupidly. You are letting your Obama derangement syndrome and paranoia of the government override common sense.

Kenny C., somewhat nonsensically, noted that, “and don’t bother with those silly masks unless you already have the flue, they will help you from spreading it but won’t help in preventing it…..they say the virus goes right through those masks”. Viruses usually do not travel in single particles; they are transmitted in droplets as an aerosol. Wearing a mask will trap a large number of them from coming in as well as going out. Can some pass through? Sure…but you are decreasing the odds. Why do you suppose hospital staff wear them?

I don’t know even where to start with Misty’s comment. It is one of the most ignorant statements I have ever read. Every vaccine (and indeed every form of chemo/antibiotic therapy) has an unfortunate negative aspect that a very small portion of the population will have an adverse reaction to it. If you have an infection do you refuse to take an antibiotic because you may be in that small minority? Somehow I don’t think so.

Eddie, DDuke, GlobalObserver, and kmichaels are all making predictions concerning the pathogenicity of this organism without the slightest knowledge of the subject. Only Eddie’s comment makes the slightest sense and he is correct in his observation that the very young (who do not yet have a “fully functioning” immune system) and the old (immune system is “worn out”) are usually at risk from the flu. This is true. It is also true that on rare occasions this is NOT true. The Great Flu pandemic following the First World War disproportionately struck down people in the prime of life. Scientists are concerned that this guy may be similar. I would rather listen to people who study epidemiology for a living than the likes of the rest of you when it comes to public health issues.

harry   August 25th, 2009 - 11:06 am

Close the Mexican border… oh, too late for that.

When half the population calls in sick, imagine what that will do to the economy.

Whatwhatwhat   August 25th, 2009 - 2:47 pm

These responses demonstrate that right-wing conservatives are too dumb to be allowed into a position of power. Conservatives would destroy this country and its people in order to recapture power. No lie, no amount of ignorance to great for them.

Larse Fark B Fonds Fnexio   August 25th, 2009 - 4:04 pm

Larse should worry more about HIV. The SWINE flu is minor compared to that. I guess you could catch the swine flu through your but but I wouldn’t know. I guess one could check with Mark.

Larse   August 25th, 2009 - 5:05 pm

@Larse Fark B Fonds Fnexio

Republicans and true ultra-right wingers that are true to God can NOT catch the flu or at least never die from it! History has proven that. Just ask Beck… You guys just go hugging and kissing every neocon pig you can find!

Trust “me” :D

I get flue shots every year for longer than i can remember and they have turned me into a rapid mind controlled Democrat!! =:O So beware! It is just a plot to control you minds!

Soon you might even start believing in Darwin too!!! Or, the rest of us remaining will…

Nola Redd   August 25th, 2009 - 7:22 pm

Why isn’t anyone noting that the report also stated, “the 2009-H1N1 virus does not thus far seem to show the virulence associated with the devastating pandemic of 1918-19; moreover, medical science now has many potent tools at our disposal to mitigate an influenza pandemic in ways that were not possible ninety years ago.”?

http://www.examiner.com/x-20147-Schuylkill-County-Independent-Examiner~y2009m8d25-Analyzing-PCATs-swine-flu-report-Part-1

Or that the death rate, per WHO’s calculations, is less than 1%, and that assumes that every single person who was infected is diagnosed; in reality, many people are most likely staying home and having chicken noodle soup.

Airwick   August 25th, 2009 - 7:23 pm

For crying out loud, folks, get it right! The CDC is saying that 90,000 deaths may result from the flu NOT from the vaccine.

Larse   August 25th, 2009 - 9:30 pm

@Airwick

You are just “imagining” that these morons posting here have an intelligence above that of a common cockroach…

“Overcome” your delusion!!!

Yes indeed!!!! They “really really are” THAT pathetically stupid!!!!

These forums tend to boil up the very worst of society’s ultra stupid trash…
