"I hope that with this apology I will become as insignificant as I should be."

Stark is an embarrasement to the house of representatives, this country and the people of the United States.

Thom   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:02 pm

Isn’t it great to be a Democrat? All you need is some cheap words and you can say or do anything you want and no one will hold you accountable.

Stark is just another hate-filled intolerant liberal who will be celebrated by the left for his politically correct prejudices. Yee-AWN.

Ron   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:05 pm

Please! Liberals can say anything they want to. They just spew their foolish non-sense, wait a few days, cry a bit and apologize. It makes me sick. Get a coservative politician to say something like that about Hillary Clinton and they would be calling for his office. Just again shows how pathetic the liberals really are.

THOMPSON 2008!

Chris   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:07 pm

He hates all the right people! Give that man a Nobel prize!

carl   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:08 pm

Pete Starks needs psychiatric help.
Pelosi and the media will continue to enable his explosive rants because, as a Liberal, he has “Absolute Moral Authority.”

Azul   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:12 pm

I guess it’s OK because Stark is a liberal and he is one of the few that truly “cares” about these issues and the bad man Bush is the only one standing in the way of universal tolerance and caring.
I wonder what Stark’s opinions are of Saddam, Ahmadinejad, al-Assad, Putin, the crisis in Sudan/Darfur, al qaeda, the Taliban, etc? You’d think he’d direct some of this angry energy towards these groups that are killing innocent people, voilating women’s rights, holding back freedom and liberty, etc. Hmmmmm.

republicans_are_junk   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:13 pm

why apologize for the truth?

impeach & hang all of bushco.

CB   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:14 pm

Well he is right about one thing…he is insignificant. He’s an arrogant little twit and his apology rings rather hallow compared to his outrageous remarks.

Sandi   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:16 pm

Mr. Starks is but one of the many dinosaurs that need to step away from their office.

neo-commies suck   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:17 pm

Excellent argument, you hate-filled bigoted liberal. Is “Kill Them All” going to be the DNC slogan this election?

Kris K   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:18 pm

I don’t accept that idiot’s apology, because I do not think he is sorry. His rant on the Congress Floor last week was a typical talking point for Soros, Clinton, Edwards, and Moonbat.org. I’m sure Code Pink had their hand in that mess, as well.

I embarrassed for this country. Look who our “leaders” are…Feinstein, Boxer, Kennedy, Schumer, Kerry,Obama, Pelosi, etc. The USA is screwed.

That man should have been arrested on the spot, and charged woth treason. God help us all, our land is in serious trouble.

Bruce Davidson   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:22 pm

Stark is a mess and his apology was overdue!

PM   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:28 pm

In my opinion, Stark is a hate monger, racist, alcoholic coward. His behavior proves the need for a breathalyzer test for all members of Congress daily before they come onto the floor of their respective houses.

Barbara Russell   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:35 pm

Just answer this question did Stark tell the TRUTH? YES. Why are you so afraid of the TRUTH? Barb

Bunny   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:36 pm

Liberals make me sick

Bluecat4usa   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:39 pm

Stark is a alcoholic? Wow, I think my opinion of him just went up a little bit.

http://bluecatsblog.blogspot.com/

neo-commies suck   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:42 pm

How is what Stark said the TRUTH? Why do liberals believe their worst opinions of people are the TRUTH? You people are so bigoted against anyone who doesn’t fall in line with your platitudes. You are a disgusting hate-monger, Barbara.

Glenn Koons   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:42 pm

Like Durbin, Murtha, Harken, the leftist Democrats now can truly have the name:Quislings. They are a disgrace and Stark is just a symptom of their anti-military bias. They are invested in defeat and perhaps now, moderate Democrats and Independents will finally realize what arrogant power hungry minions they are. The term evil may indeed be used with their type of mentality.

RR   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:44 pm

The Liberals cannot stand any disagreement with their point of view. They depend on a monopoly of ideas. If Bush disagrees with their spending spree, then call him names! Typical liberal fare.

Drew   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:48 pm

It’s beyond obvious that the Dems have been over taken by the radical left proven by the fact that there are comments here of “impeach and hang all of Bushco” It’s shocking that in the light of these comments, which happens more and more on a daily occurrence, we conservatives are the ones label as Nazi’s, fascists and intolerant. I have yet to find such a similar collective voice coming from the right that vomits such bitter, hate-filled bump sticker crap. Typically when people can’t debate an issue for its merits, they gravitate toward personal attacks. It’s no wonder that the right and left are so far apart, especially when one is dealing with people who can only come up with “hang them all”…

Dan   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:49 pm

If he were any type of a man, he would resign his office and admit himself to a facility that can monitor and treat his apparent Alzheimer’s.
No one in their right mind can stand on the floor of the Congress and utter such a remark.

whathisname   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:55 pm

Thank you, Rep. Stark.

Next up, an apology from the other side of the aisle for their slander of Senators Max Cleland, the swiftboating of John Kerry and the stalking of 12 year old kids. And the accusations that Bill Clinton was a murderer and a rapist. And the accusations that everyone against the Iraq war “loves the terrorists”.

And on and on and on.

The right wing was taken the level of political discourse to the lowest of levels in this country and cry foul when someone hits back in like kind.

You can dish it out. But you can’t take it.

Back in grammar school, we used to call them “cry babies”.

Dem Dems are Rats   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:58 pm

It’s a crying shame how they talk about our President. It’s no wonder school kids are disrespectful to teachers and their parents. Look at these wonderful role models we have in Washington, D.C. Nothing but a bunch of BUMS living off the government like the welfare rolls. They are no better. They are a disgrace!

whatshisname   October 23rd, 2007 - 12:59 pm

>I have yet to find such a similar collective voice coming from the right that vomits such bitter, hate-filled bump sticker crapDrew,

Drew,

Have you visited the “Not so Free Republic” lately? Or listened to Limbaugh, Hannity or O’Reilly?

whathisname   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:01 pm

> It’s a crying shame how they talk about our President.

Wow! What short memories we have?

Can you say “Bill Clinton”?

Master of Intellect   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:02 pm

So this crowd here demanded an apology from him and, naturally, aren’t satisfied when they get it.

Who’s hateful?

Dem Dems are Rats   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:03 pm

HA! Can you say Monica Lewensky in the oval office with a cigar and semen stains on the blue dress…. that bum, whom I might add you supported deserved everything he got. Now we have the other socialist of the pair trying to get back in and finish us off!

whatsyourgame   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:04 pm

whatshisname – nice name dropping there. Which one of those people called for liberals to be put to death?

Lance   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:07 pm

EXACTLY why this police officer made America’s only politically CONSERVATIVE music CD. It was time for OUR feelings to be expressed in music, and I included Hillary, Gore, Edwards, and the whole Ward Churchill crowd! Someone had to do it–I did @

whatshisname   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:12 pm

whatsyourgame,

2 threads going on here. Try not to confuse them.

Drew talks about collective voices which vomit bitter, hate-filled bumper sticker crap.

The Free Republic is full of it. As are Hannity and o’Reilly. They’d ship every liberal to Africa if they could.

Calling for death of all Bushco is admittedly over the line but there are plenty of counterparts on the right that do it every day.

I know it’s hard to believe that you haven’t cornered the market on righteous indignation. But
people get carried away when they see their friends and neighbors killed and carried away in body bags every day for a war we didn’t have to fight against a country we had thoroughly boxed in.

Give the man a break. Or better yet, sign up for Iraq and prove the man wrong.

whatsyourgame   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:15 pm

Nice attempt to split hairs, name. You are equating insulting rhetoric with death threats. I know you believe that when liberals make death threats, it’s free speech and when conservatives insult your heroes, it’s a hate crime, but let’s compare apples to apples, ok?

whathisname   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:17 pm

> . Now we have the other socialist of the pair trying to get back in and finish us off!

Yeah. 8 more years of peace and prosperity.

Go ahead and finish me off now. I don’t think I can take terror not having terrorists my president kill scare war-on-terror the bejesus mushroom-cloud out of me terror every time terrorists he speaks.

Larry   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:18 pm

Bush is not amused. He only smirks because having so much power just makes him feel good.

Brian   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:20 pm

“The right wing was taken the level of political discourse to the lowest of levels in this country and cry foul when someone hits back in like kind.

You can dish it out. But you can’t take it.”

The US military is not part of the right wing. Liberals like yourself need to stop reading the blogs put down the hippie lettuce and try joining reality. The discourse in this country is hate filled on only one side and that is the left. I don’t see any hang Clinton or Obama posts floating around, but like most liberals you never let facts get in the way of a good sound bite!

Prospector   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:25 pm

Stark has apologized and shown all that he is a very small man. The Right needs to move on and the Left needs to grow up and grow a pair. The good news is that we’re winning the war against al Qaida and Iraq is starting to shape up as a viable, democratic nation. Soon, we’ll be able to turn our attention to helping our allies in Pakistan in ridding their country of the Taliban and foreign terrorists (AQ). After we cause Syria to eject its dictator, we’ll have Iran completely boxed in and they will cave to democracy and liberty. The Palestinian insurgency will lose their support and collapse. The Democratic Party will be relegated to minority status for undermining the effort for decades to come. Peace will settle in. Life will be good and the sacrifices of many will be fullfilled.

“The future of the world will be determined by free people.” — GW Bush, an emancipation proclamation for the world.

whathisname   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:26 pm

game.

I’m trying to.

This thread began as comments on Stark’s apologies.

One over-the-top comment by someone in the thread and the conversation devolves.

So apples to apples, let’s just talk about Stark and whether what he said is any worse than what we’ve been hearing from the right for the last 7-15 years.

My main point is, progressives are accused in the public forum every day of being traitors, unAmerican, terrorists and lovers of Bin Laden because we disagree with the current administration’s policies. So we practice our American-given right to oppose the unfairness and unconscionable wrong-headedness of it all by speaking out against it.

And what do we get in response? (Fill in the blanks yourself.)

For a brief moment, a progressive engages in the same kind of rhetoric that has been spewing forth like a tsunami wave for over a decade, and you cry foul!

If you can’t stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen. Just next time, don’t start the fire.

Craigo   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:28 pm

He’s still a dick!

Randy   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:29 pm

Stark said it himself “I do apologize . . . For this reason, I think that we have a serious issue before us .. .” He is aplogizing to get off the hook and to move on to other things, not because he is truly sorry for suggesting that the President of the United States is some kind of sadist who gets personal pleasure from the deaths of American soldiers. Yet another insincere apology from the left. Two faced! If you truly believe something than you have nothing to apologize for, if you were lying about your beliefs than apologize for that and not for getting called on the carpet for it!

whathisname   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:31 pm

> . The discourse in this country is hate filled on only one side and that is the left.

Brian,

You’re kidding, right?

Because that comment is laughable.

whatsyourgame   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:35 pm

name – I’m not getting out of the kitchen. And I can take the heat. Without even calling a lawyer.

When conservatives speak their mind, the left tries to silence and ostracize that person, if not destroy them and their family outright. They try to get them fired, arrested, imprisoned and they call for the death of their families.

It would be nice if liberals afforded the same free speech rights to conservatives.

And have you ever considered that fact that you can oppose the War without claiming that the President gets his jollies watching soldiers get their heads blown off and without calling for the total destruction and death of anyone that disagrees with you? Statements like that destroy anyone’s credibility, no matter what side of the issue they’re on.

SAL   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:36 pm

there is a good man– there are few Democrats who care about anybody but there own selves

Ed   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:38 pm

Stark shouldn’t have to kiss those traitors buts. Bush is a sadistic sob and I pray every day that when his term is over they are tried in a world court for war crimes.

Randy   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:38 pm

whathisname –
I have never heard someone on the right in congress say anything on a level with Stark’s comments. Sure the political pundits on both sides say all sorts of things. But when you are an elected official the comments you make in public are representitive of the people you represent. I could say Stark is a raving lunitic who hates the US and I am only expressing my personnal opinion, not the collective will of the people whom I represent. People on the left seem to think that what is said by pundits (ala’ Rush) is the collective thought of all conservatives. Here’s a hint, unlike the left, true conservatives do not practice group think.

IMightBe1   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:44 pm

So Stark had to apologize to his “PARTY” first then his President and country. He was forced to do it by his own party…Not very sincere to me.

Mark   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:44 pm

We are the United States of America. What our representation in DC fails to recognize is that we can be defeated. We have enemies who want to destroy our way of life, which is not a birth right. Democrats have wanted power badly the last 8 years and resorted to guerilla warfare during Bush’s terms. Republicans did not hold fast to the values that allowed them to hold the majority in the house, senate and white house. if we do not get ourselves together we will be defeated.

Robert Leavitt   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:46 pm

SMACKDOWN!

“After his mea culpa, Stark walked walked off the floor to the Democratic side of the chamber and for at least five minutes stood sobbing while fellow Democrats gathered around him.”

Crybaby libs talk the talk but they can’t walk the walk. They’re all mouth, as postings in this chat show. Wimps!

Legal Immigrant   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:46 pm

whatshiname,

You stated:
“Wow! What short memories we have?

Can you say “Bill Clinton”?”

Well, I ask you: can you name one congressman, senator, governor, etc. that accused Clinton of enjoying watching U.S. soldier’s die in combat?

whathisname   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:47 pm

> When conservatives speak their mind, the left tries to silence and ostracize that person, if not destroy them and their family outright. They try to get them fired, arrested, imprisoned and they call for the death of their families.

You’re talking about Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson, right?

> without calling for the total destruction and death of anyone that disagrees with you?

I’ve already acknowledged that that comment was over the top. And Stark implied nothing of the kind. Apples to apples.

> Statements like that destroy anyone’s credibility, no matter what side of the issue they’re on.

I’m in total agreement.

whatsyourgame   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:51 pm

Oh please – Valerie Plame? You mean the ex-CIA agent who was in Who’s Who as a CIA agent before no crime was committed by someone mentioning to a reporter who already knew she was a former CIA agent that she was a former CIA agent? Who tried to get her fired or destroy her family? She was already no longer working for the CIA. Seems to me it was the other way around.

Stan   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:58 pm

Is “whatshisname” really as dumb as he appears? The issue isn’t what names are hurled everyday. If that were it all sides could point to slanders directed at them and whine all day long. You cry about Freepsers and others can cry about Daily “Screw ‘em” Kos. The issue was STARK ON THE FLOOR OF THE HOUSE saying the president is “amused” when soldiers are killed.

If you’re too big of a fool to grasp the difference, you’re too big a fool to bother with.

Ed   October 23rd, 2007 - 1:58 pm

Does anyone really believe Bush doesn’t enjoy this war? He is into killing and warfare, it’s pretty obvious that he likes being a War President. I just guess it’s no OK to say it.

Long live the president and his war!

whatsyourgame   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:03 pm

And another one opens his mouth and removes all doubt.

Kris K   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:04 pm

Max Cleland dropped a frigging grenade on himself while in ‘Nam. He was visitng friends, drank some beer, and dropped the grenade. He was NOT attacked by the ‘Cong and disabled.

John Kerry testified to congress in the early ’70’s about our soldiers, accusing them of outrageous fallacies. My dad (retired Army LtC, Reserves) considers Kerry a traitor to this very day. The Swift Boaters told the truth about that lying SOB Kerry. He is no war hero, he is a walking atrocity.

Bill Clinton was a pot smoking draft dodger by his own admission. Who in this world thinks that any leftie gives a hoot about our US Military?

Our troops know who respects them, prays for them, sends gifts and letters, etc. Stark could give a damn about the safety of our soldiers. He is with the crowd that call soldiers “baby killers’, while attending a pro abortion rally.

Comments from the left get more sickening with each passing day. I think Rush L had the last laugh on the moonbats, his Ebay letter sold for $2.1m. He then matched that amount.

Hey “Progressives?” We get that you hate our president and military. I pray that the 2008 election goes well.

Willy   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:04 pm

Democrats, You can’t polish a turd like this guy. Why did he and the democrats wait so long to say sorry?

vincenzo4   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:07 pm

Pelosi remarked that his comment was “inappropriate”. That is an insult to those of us who have done the heavy lifting. Those of you who sit exploiting the freedoms we provide from Concord and Lexington to Baghdad and Fallujah should shut up and sit down and go back to your trendy, clique friendly little comfortable lives, complete with that Free Tibet Bumper Sticker.

We all are quite aware that the bloodletting of Americans from 1992-2001 was of no concern to all of you, not even considered human rights violations. So go sulk somewhere and let us sacrifice our lives so you can go on running your mouths. You didn’t demand an answer from Clinton why virtually nothing was done.

This time, you run them for the encouragement of the enemy that wants you dead and has promised you they would.

How’s that John Kerry ethics class working our for you?

whatsyourgame   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:07 pm

I called Stark’s office the day before he apologized. The person who answered the phone said he wasn’t going to apologize because there was nothing to apologize for. I wonder what changed his mind? It wasn’t principles.

frank stitt   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:08 pm

Dope a crats suck   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:09 pm

Mark   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:10 pm

I’ve hear Pete Stark speak on the radio, and he has always sounded to me like he’s burned out a a few brain cells along the way. I don’t know if he was a “partier” in his youth, but he sure sounds like one when he speaks.

whathisname   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:11 pm

game,

> Who tried to get her fired or destroy her family? She was already no longer working for the CIA. Seems to me it was the other way around.

You, sir, need to check your facts.

She was under cover working on ways to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons. Once outed, years of undercover work went south.

Maybe you feel good about outing undercover agents. That’s fine. Now we can talk about what is and is not treason.

whatshisname   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:20 pm

> . The issue was STARK ON THE FLOOR OF THE HOUSE saying the president is “amused” when soldiers are killed.

Oh. You’re talking about the president’s amusement:

“Those weapons of mass destruction gotta be somewhere. heh. heh. Nope. No weapons over there. Heh, heh, heh. Maybe under here. heh. heh. heh.”

Where *did* Stark get that idea?

Robert   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:25 pm

> Have you visited the “Not so Free Republic” lately? Or listened to Limbaugh, Hannity or O’Reilly?

Whatshisname,

Here is why you have no credibility. Anyone who listens to Limbaugh, Hannity or O’Reilly knows that they do not spew hate, so your statements sound ridicules. Therefore everything you say after that, good point or not, is not taken seriously.

Do you listen to them, or are you just ASSUMING that is what they do, because that is only what you hear from the narrow minded, one sided media that you take in? Do I listen to Air America? You bet, Do I watch CNN, you bet I do. I make it a point to read the blogs on a daily bases from the daily kos, and other lefty sites. WHY? So I can form an educated opinion, and back up my statements with facts. You can’t just go and ramble something off without backing it up. It takes a lot of work to sort out facts from rumors, and It sucks that’s what we have to do today, but that’s what we HAVE to do.

You sound like a very educated, intelligent and passionate person. Please do the homework if you want credibility. Don’t form opinions on “feelings” which leads to flawed logic. Research what you say even if it means taking a week and listening to the people you don’t want to listen too.

Question everything.

EagleJim   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:27 pm

The apologists for Stark (on this thread)show precisely why “modern Liberalism” is a mental disorder.

whatsyourgame   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:32 pm

Yes, those are her claims. But you see, her file remains classified and then there’s that pesky question about why, if she was still working undercover in 2003, did she appear in Who’s Who in the late nineties as “former intelligence officer”?

whathisname   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:34 pm

> You didn’t demand an answer from Clinton why virtually nothing was done.

You’re must be talking about the charge of “Wag the dog” leveled against Clinton when he bombed an Al Queda labratory in Khartoum. That was clearly a case where Clinton was striking back at Al Quaeda before they even became a household name.

And who tried to prevent him from doing it? Who excoriated him for taking a strike at Al Quaeda?

You guys. That’s who.

Had you let Clinton really go after Al Qaeda, where might we be now?

But the fact is, it was politically incorrect to get on board with a Democratic president when our national security was at stake because it was more important to talk about what goes on between 2 people in their privacy.

A blow-job! Now *that’s* a reason to bring a government to its knees, so to speak.

Come on, you guys. How about a little sense of history here, please! You’re breaking my heart with your self-selecting, myopic memories.

Robert   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:38 pm

Once again you sound just plain ignorant.

Clinton lied under oath to a grand jury, It had nothing to do with a B Job. More credibility down the tube for you. I know it’s hard when facts get in the way of your point.

whatsyourgame   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:39 pm

“And who tried to prevent him from doing it? Who excoriated him for taking a strike at Al Quaeda?”

Not you. Not a single voice on the left had a problem with Clinton waging any war. The man who deployed more troops than all past administrations combined.

And it was a children’s aspirin factory. He blew up a security guard. I’m sure the terrorists were quaking in their boots.

Jim   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:41 pm

Don’t worry Pete – you will always be insignificant to me.

Robert   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:43 pm

You can’t argue with ignorance. Any point you make to Whatshisname, will just be countered with another distorted view of reality. You should not enable this person any longer.

nate   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:53 pm

both sides spew this stuff, its a joke, and both sides use it as a tool, one side will use it to classify one party, another party will use it to denounce a fellow party member and make themselves look better. I just dont get why officials in washington think it wont get around if they say it outloud.

whatsyourgame   October 23rd, 2007 - 2:57 pm

Oh I don’t know. At least things get said.

Maybe our Senators should be made to participate in uncensored, online, ARCHIVED chats. You’d get a lot more truth out of them.

Marv W   October 23rd, 2007 - 3:07 pm

Unfortunately, virtually all self-proclaimed conservatives who post here demonstrate below average reading and writing skills and extremely poor critical thinking skills.

But it isn’t their fault. It is the fault of liberal teachers who were more interested in political correctness than in real education. These teachers thus failed to provide them with the intellectual tools that would allow them to fully understand what they hear and read and to communicate effectively about it.

Jackshere   October 23rd, 2007 - 3:22 pm

As disturbing as the original remark was, I thought he said what he needed to say to make it right. Admittedly I was expecting another “if my comments were misunderstood…” type of mea culpa, and he didn’t resort to that. He just said he was sorry to the president and his house colleagues, and that was fine. Apology accepted, and that from a republican.

Chris C   October 23rd, 2007 - 3:28 pm

Marv W said (fixed your typo for you):

Robert:

> Here is why you have no credibility. Anyone who listens to Limbaugh, Hannity or O’Reilly knows that they do not spew hate, so your statements sound ridicules. Therefore everything you say after that, good point or not, is not taken seriously.

As for Hannity:

And it is time to ask: Why, particularly in time of war, should we entrust the education of our children to people who loathe and ravage so many of out core values and traditions”. Loathe and ravage, huh?

Ann Coulter comes onto his show and Colmes asks her to defend her statment: “We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed too.”. He conveniently doesn’t call her out on it.

And then, in his book, he lists Liberalism as an evil to be destroyed with terrorism and fascism.

O’Reilly doesn’t spew hate?????

Where do I begin:

“If Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we’re not going to do anything about it. We’re going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead.’” -FOX News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly, after San Francisco voted to ban military recruiters from city schools, Nov. 8, 2005

Sure. Why not kill a bunch of innocent Americans who disagree with the O’Mighty one?

Life is short, so I’ll end with this one, since it echoes my previous comments:

“You must know the difference between dissent from the Iraq war and the war on terror and undermining it. And any American that undermines that war, with our soldiers in the field, or undermines the war on terror, with 3,000 dead on 9/11, is a traitor. Everybody got it? Dissent, fine; undermining, you’re a traitor. Got it? So, all those clowns over at the liberal radio network, we could incarcerate them immediately. Will you have that done, please? Send over the FBI and just put them in chains, because they, you know, they’re undermining everything and they don’t care, couldn’t care less.”

So do I have your permission to be taken seriously now and can I have my credibility back?

SickofLibs   October 23rd, 2007 - 3:30 pm

After 35 years of watching endless media spin and the conversion of the Democrat party from an actual political party to nothing less than a criminal enterprise, I’m finally ready to declare that speaking with modern-day libs is utterly hopeless.

Stark is simply representitive of these hate-filled people who left rational discourse behind long ago. With rare exception, they are almost ALL emotionally driven and unable to process actual information, and unwilling to HEAR actual information. Heck, I could have a more intelligent conversation with the Ayatollahs than you ever could with leftist pundits in this country … Reid and Pelosi are literally an embarassment to this nation, crooked as hell, and they are merely the tip of a large iceberg of corrupt ideological democrats driven by nothing but love of power.

I’ve worked for 35 years. I’ve NEVER seen the dems solve a single solitary problem … they are the party of back-seat driving. There game is to do nothing without govt. expansion, take credit for anything conservatives actually do that works, and pillory anyone who doesn’t goose-step according to the PC Lib propaganda.

I apologize deeply to every VET who ever served to protect the right of the left to be stupid, whining, uneducated boobs without a clue, and I mean about anything.

Some of the posters on this blog are hopelessly lost … you’d have to teach ‘em philosophy for several years before they might begin to get it.

PapaK   October 23rd, 2007 - 3:31 pm

He said it himself, he apologized to take the focus off of himself, not because he thinks he was wrong in what he said. This is not an apology, it is a slap, an insult, an attempt to placate.

Make no mistake, he was wrong in what he said, as are all liberals, he was wrong to say it, and he is wrong to think he will be forgiven when he apologizes for the wrong reason.

Liberals: If you think President Bush takes pleasure in the loss of even a single life, If you think this is an unlawful war for oil, and if you think the USA has not benefited from our presence in Iraq, then you are media led sheep who cannot reason or think for yourselves. Look around, you are safer because of this war, you have not been attacked at home. Thank a vet, and thank your President.

J. Pike   October 23rd, 2007 - 3:31 pm

His apology is remarkably restrained for a man with such “passions” that he could feel comfortable showing such disrespect for the office of the president, but when it is his own character at question, he is quiet, reserved, and humble. What a hypocrite.

I am ashamed by the conduct of our congress. There is entirely too much self serving power grabbing agenda’s in play and not nearly enough “patriotic citizen statesmen” as was envisioned by our founding fathers.

Donald   October 23rd, 2007 - 3:31 pm

There is a part of Mr. Starks’ anatomy that is limp…and still has more firmness than this apology.

Son of Bob   October 23rd, 2007 - 3:34 pm

Since when are both sides divided about how to “end” the war? Only one side is trying desperately to run from the war (that we’re currently winning, despite Harry Reid’s treasonous announcement that we had already “lost”), while the Republicans are trying to win the war. Only one side is trying to “end” the war.

Ardoz   October 23rd, 2007 - 3:34 pm

He forgot to apologize to all the Gold Star Families he offended and I’m one of them.
I have lost two nephews, both Marines, and I think his apology was heartless.

Pog Mahone   October 23rd, 2007 - 3:37 pm

The only way that he will, in his words, become “as insignificant as [he] should be”, is if he either dies or has the decency to leave office and let an honest hard-working citizen take his place. And he should take Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi out with him. The behavior of these congresspeople is now bordering on degenerate. The whole recent Rush Limbaugh fiasco, wasting taxpayer dollars, the country’s focus, and based on a lie, shows how insane this country has become since the Democrats have sold their souls, bought and paid for by small Internet groups! And then having Reid, Pelosi et al try desperately to break our alliance with Turkey just to hurt our country and its chances in Iraq is treasonous! Our founding fathers must be turning over in their graves, fighting to get back out of their graves to save us and their country!

ROFL, um no. you took those talking points straight off of liberal websites. You are so lazy that you didn’t even do your own research. PLEASE listen and think for yourself. I challenge you to listen to those guys for one week, then come back and tell me how hate filled they are.

Thank you so much for proving my point.

Mark   October 23rd, 2007 - 3:55 pm

It’s a shame that libtards don’t care about children, women, animals, or justice.
I can relate to whiatsisname about being filled with anger watching your neighbors carried off in body-bags on a daily basis. I also live near low-income housing and pray for the ability to defend myself when the trolls who ignore the laws come to shoot me or mine.
As for whatever slander someone said the right had made about the left – what are you referring to? I know of no such thing. Did kennedy not allow a young girl to drown? Did kerry actually save the day shooting an unarmed youth in vietnam and all those who said he was a coward and a phony were liars? Did clinton not perjure himself and lie on international television? Was iraq, afghanistan, iran, palestine, etc., etc., etc. prosperous and peaceful during clinton’s administration?
I do confess, though, Bush is far from Conservative. I do wish he’d stop trying to out-democrap the democraps.

Bruce   October 23rd, 2007 - 4:05 pm

Insults such as this in addition to lies about helping children. Since when are kids that are 25 and make 80K a year “children” that are in need of our help? How do you define morality?

Tony Pistone   October 23rd, 2007 - 4:11 pm

On one hand, I give Stark kudos for apologizing, and not making it one of those limp-wristed, unsincere “if anyone was stupid enough to be offended, I apologize” apologies (ala Dick Durbin or John Kerry).

On the other hand, the apology could have came just a little more quickly…like a few minutes after he said his moronic remarks.

I also blame Nancy “Donkey Punch” Pelosi for not taking him aside and saying, “You should immediately apologize for that blatant stupidity.”

Regardless, I give Stark credit for giving an apology that seemed sincere to me. He’s already shown himself a better statesman than half of his party.

thecautiousseldomerr   October 23rd, 2007 - 4:11 pm

Well, no. I haven’t listened to Limbaugh, Hannity and O’Reilly for a week in the space of the last hour. How could I?

But I’ll do that if it makes you feel better. It’s a fair challenge. See you in a week or two.

In the meantime, however, I challenge you as Bush challenged Saddam and the rest of us.

He required that Saddam prove he didn’t have weapons of mass destruction.

You prove to me that those guys *didn’t* say what I have claimed they said. For everyone knows, O’Reilly and Hannity are full of love and sweetness with sugar on top.

Love you, Robert. At least *you* seem full of love and sweetness. Can’t wait to talk to you again.

WHAT, he didnt APOLGIZE to the PRESIDENT, just everyone else. Rep Pete Strks from the LEFT COAST , “YOU SUCK”

emjem24   October 23rd, 2007 - 4:39 pm

An apology? He hopes his apology is as insignificant as he should be? Why does this feel so hollow? Let’s just apologize and make it all better…why do so many Americans attack the other side with such vitriole to the point that they say hateful things like Stark and think that saying sorry will be fine and dandy.

I really feel that we’ve become such an impolite society where simple, common decency, please and thank you, courtesy, patience, respect, how to dress appropriately (for all those baggy pants hip hoppers and Lindsay/Britney wannabes) are no longer important. Any time I mention that I’m a military spouse I get three reactions: 1) outright indifference, 2)A thank you for my husband’s service, and 3) you’re a fascist knuckledragger.

As a Conservative, I’ve never inserted the kind of vitriole that liberals I’ve seen on this message board have. I never wanted Pres. Clinton’s death or impeachment because it would turn our government upside down (though I wasn’t very sympathatic to his lying under oath either). It astounds me how many people are calling for the president’s impeachment with flimsy evidence and even more flimsy rhetoric. You don’t like the president, the military, so be it. We still need the government and military to function even if you disagree with the President and the War.

I just think the whole Congress (House of Representatives and Senate) needs a thorough cleansing. Out with the partisan hacks (who’ve outstayed their welcome) on both sides. If you’re
as old as Stark, you should retire. There needs to be term limits but how many Americans can see beyond partisan nitpicking to support that? If you want change, it’s gotta start somewhere wo it might as well begin with the voters.

smc   October 23rd, 2007 - 4:41 pm

Barbara Russell, even though you answered your own question you provided not one shred of evidence to substantiate. Now I’m still in disbelief this has happened because folks like yourself always provide rock-solid proof to back up what you say. So I ask you, “how in the world did anyhting Stark say fall in the category of truth?” Now I’m keeping in mind truth for someone like you changes with each day of the week. Please enlighten us all on why we’re afraid.

Rover   October 23rd, 2007 - 5:00 pm

Of course, it is inappropriate to point out that bush is a moronic urea ant with delusions of becoming the world’s next Hilter on the house floor. That is what the rest of the country is for :D

There is no use at trying to tell bush anything. His legacy will be something like:

Bin Laden survives
Warrantless wire taping
Torture
Genocide
Restarting the cold war
Wrecking relations with the rest of the world
Bringing shame to our country
Iraq
etc…

I only hope that Hillery will crush the right wing nuts just like the nazies were eventually crushed.

Her life is so, well, lowly, that she needs the attention. Some would say attention whore, but I believe it’s a little deeper than that.

Darryl   October 23rd, 2007 - 5:14 pm

Stark’s apology is meaningless. Why? Because when he was first asked to apologize, he scoffed and said he had nothing to apologize about. Only after Nancy Pelosi leaned on him did he apologize. Stark remains unrepentant, he only apologized when he was forced to.

Your side wants to install the “fairness doctrine” to silence conservative talk radio. What, you already have NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, etc, ad naseum. Isn’t that MORE than enough? Can’t handle free speech from a group who doesn’t goose step to your party line??

Did you ever wonder why blacks are called oreoes, Uncle Tom, or Aunt Jemima, if they DARE to be a republican or conservative? Talk about fascists!

More lies and smears from the party that loves to go to war but is too coward to fight it themselves.

Speaking of draft dodgers, didn’t Cheney “have other priorities”? And Bush signed on for the National Guard and rarely showed up.

So don’t talk to me about draft dodging.

The difference here is that *your* draft dodgers don’t mind starting needless wars, inflaming the Middle East making us far, far less safe than we were before 9/11. Killing thousands upon thousands innocent citizens, dislocating millions more innocent citizens, not to mention the 3000 plus and counting American Soldiers.

And, oh yes, lining their pockets on the way. Cheney is laughing all the way to the bank on all the “no-bid contracts” secured by the company for which he once served as CEO.

Why do you hate our military? Why don’t you support the troops — *all* the troops?

R   October 23rd, 2007 - 6:46 pm

I can think of an appropriate analogy for what happened with Stark.

You’re a bank robber and steal a bag of cash. Then, when you are caught red-handed by everyone, you simply say, “Ooops, sorry.” and then give the money back and all is forgiven.

The problem is he can’t take back what was said and the demo leadership is letting him get away with something that they would be completely livid over if it was said by a Republican.

It’s a two way street and the demos think it’s just a one way; their way. The Congress is being led by idiots.

suchamuch   October 23rd, 2007 - 6:48 pm

Robert had a brillian comment up there. I’ve found it really opens you up if you actually read both sides of the story. A little left, little right, a bit of CNN, a bit of FOX…

The point is you can’t make an educated decision without educating yourself from both sides. So many ‘Progressives’ think Conservatives are close-minded for watching fox news. The fact of the matter is most conservatives get their news from multiple sources while Dem Libs have their TV’s locked on CNN and their homepage set to KoS.

Most would find that you can debate your point much more effectively when you know the other side’s argument…

*Maybe* then “Kill all Bushco” wouldn’t be your only talking point…

From my heart, I wish that our kids could fight ONLY for the people that support them. Unfortunately they fight to keep all of us safe.

Our children are bearing the brunt of this. Then the retirees get free college tuition and the college age kids are ten of thousands in debt. The kids are subsidizing the oldies’ college education, paying for their healthcare, and giving their lives for our defense.

Obviously he doesn’t care at all and he won’t let it affect the way he goes about doing his job. The left and the right get so caught up with he said she said instead of doing something about it. Its a bunch of 40 and 50 somethings back in high school. Except when they don’t do anything now, people die. Both sides shut up and do something to earn the $200,000 a year we pay you. I’m sure you all, or mostly all, have more important agenda’s(i.e. making more$). But, please understand this one FACT, I REPEAT, FACT, DID I MENTION….FACT !! WE, our #’s, are a hellava lot “smarter” than you “inbreaded defects”. Money doesn’t make anyone smart, it just “funds the cause”.(please see George “the infamous DUBYA” disgrace)
Tell me something..r u butthead/rich imbeciles, or what?. Genetics takes care of those requirements. And, the “lower/middle classes” never thought about “who” they married. They never considered whether, or not, that their betrothed “had CONNECTIONS”. At least, most didn’t. They wanted to believe in the “Dream”. We ALL have ” a shot” !! Wrong. They found out. This is where we find ourselves. That is, very simply (a-holes), to save our country from you. the Power Elite. We see that, as it should have been clear for 3 decades, that you (and yours) represents a danger? to our country & an agenda that is counter-productive to our well-being, going forward, We need to remove this “thinking” from our people’s thinking and this “wrong” thinking needs to be removed from American Society. Sorry, but we can’t succeed as a Nation with “your kind” involved. Why? Simple. Too much greed, and too much intolerance for people you consider “lesser” than yourselves. Our salvation and, ultimately, our continued existance depends upon your total elimination. Sorry, blame Mother Nature. Don’t kill the messenger. You’re all going, and it’s not my fault. It is a logical, and defensible position that our….country/history/future..and our ability to “FIRMLY RESIST” any/or all

If a Republican said something like that it would be all over the media and they would be fired from their job. Trent Lott said Strom Thurmond would have made a great president and the democrats went crazy simply because when Strom was younger he belonged to a group of policticians against cival rights. This shows how the media and democrats get their way when one of their members makes stupid remarks. Robert Bird said their are white niggers and the media didnt even care simply because of the party he belong to. If a republican would have said white niggers they would most likely be hung.

JimboPras   October 24th, 2007 - 12:47 pm

If these little blog comments represent any significant portion of the opinion of people in this country, then we truly deserve the downward spiral that we’ve voted for.

For one thing, there isn’t a single person here, not one that I can see, who has the slightest idea what the above video is about, who the man is, or what he’s apologizing for — aside from “he said something liberal and traitorous.”

Yet everyone certainly has a strong opinion about this guy’s morality.

In case you are curious, although I doubt that you are, he said that it’s a shame Bush vetoed SCHIP (which is an expansion of a health-care bill to include more children of lower-middle class status) because the more children who grow up healthy, the more troops are available to fight in Bush’s wars. He should apologize because instead of saying “fight in Bush’s wars” he actually said “get their heads blown off for Bush’s amusement” which I agree is crudely stated and inappropriate.

But he said nothing against the troops (contrary to half the posts) and nothing against the country) contrary to the other half.

Just FYI, in case you were ever curious to know a little bit about what you’re flaming.

Darryl   October 24th, 2007 - 3:03 pm

JimboPras

We get it! Stark got up to comment on the fact that the Dem’s intention to expand SCHIP beyond poor children to include middle class families, but inserted his personal swipe at Bush and the military. This is not the first time Stark took such a swipe, but this time it blew up beyond the Dems ability to ignore it.

Doovic   October 24th, 2007 - 3:09 pm

Well JimboPras,

I understand exactly what the above apology represents.

But first to the SCHIP bill veto – which in your own words is: “(which is an expansion of a health-care bill to include more children of lower-middle class status)”. Well – SCHIP has been around for many years and has been successful. The Presdent wanted to give 5 billion to that expansion. The expansion portion the DEMS proposed was to raise the age of coverage to 25 years old (yes 25yrs old), and to make it eligible to family incomes of 60K to 80K families. Does that sound lower to middle class to you? Or for children?

And because of this “health care” veto – Stark was so pissed and frustrated that he had to – yes had to – bash our President saying he enjoys watching soldiers getting their heads blown off.

You say he said nothing against the troops – well I beg to differ. I was in the military as well, and have fought for this country. He may not have verbally expressed it, but the demorlalizing way he stated that our President enjoys watching us die is not motivating. If you don’t believe me, go ask a soldier about it. Most are not that blind to read into exactly what Stark was saying. And shame on him for it.

So now I ask you… Do you understand what this video is about?

George Quillivan   October 24th, 2007 - 4:07 pm

This guy is a bloody moron. See the Washington Post: “Stark’s Latest Gaffe Is Just One In a Long Line” at: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/23/AR2007102302165.html?nav=rss_print/asection.

If any readers believe he has suddenly changed his tune, I’ve got a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn. Stark is typical of so many liberals. He believes exactly what he said, so I can omly imagime he has received sufficient call/mail-in pressure from voters to understand his lifelong congressional seat might be in jeopardy.

What a nimrod.

Just imagine what wuill happen to this nation if the Democrats gain control of the Presidency.

capmotion   October 25th, 2007 - 8:42 am

Actually, like it or not, Stark’s stark observations of Bush and his belligerant motivations and outlooks were not that wide of the mark. And I am a conservative Republican!

LongIslander   October 25th, 2007 - 9:06 am

Let the liberals speak their hearts and minds it is good for America. Their bitter poison thoughts will eventually be spit out by the American people, Liberal actions and words will help to make sure that Conservatives like Bobby Jindal in LA gain the power and authority to move this country forward.

JimboPras   October 25th, 2007 - 10:40 am

Doovic,

This $60-$80k a year figure is thrown around a lot since Bush used it to slam the expansion. But the actual wording of the bill is to change the current cut-off (250% above the poverty level) to 300% above the poverty level. So in most States, that’s moving the cap from the low 50,000s to the low 60,000s.

Oh, and you can’t tell me that the men and women in our military are so sensitive that if someone utters some strong words, they’ll shrink like flowers in the frost. I don’t believe that for one second.

Doovic   October 25th, 2007 - 1:12 pm

JimboPras,

Regardless, 50K to 60K is still more than a poor families income. The cap can reach in some cases 80K if you read the bill. And nice to know you have no response regarding coverage for a “child” at 25 years old. Can’t you admit that a 25 year old adult is a little too extreme for child care? Bush offered 5 billion for the expansion as well… To say he slammed it is a bit of an exaggeration.

Who stated that our men and woman in our military can’t take strong words? I didn’t – you did. Another example of bold assumptions. You have a myriad of DEM leaders stating that the support our soldiers but not the war (which is a crock by the way – we know better) – And then try to cut funding to us. C’mon now JimboPras, that’s doing more than just calling names, and you know it. If you also think that it is motivating for our troops to find that one of our elected officials states that our commander enjoys watching us die – then you have a strange sense of building up ones moral. This Stark example is just one of many.

Finally, it’s nice to have this free country to where we can agree to disagree in a forum like this. Hopefully, you believe that for one second.

webweaver   October 28th, 2007 - 8:28 pm

Wow. This is a sad state of affairs. Name calling and invective as the norm. No one seems to be listening. No one seems to be thinking — on all sides.

I worry about our country and our world… and reading these comments, I worry even more.

Nearly 4000 U.S. soldiers have died. Maybe 30,000 (maybe double that) have been wounded. At least 600,000 Iraqis have died. More U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq than died in the WTC… We have sacrificed more people than the terrorists killed. What does that say about the real value of human life?

I would think that that fact would evoke more anger than one man’s comments about George Bush…. but it doesn’t seem to.
