Rep. Paul Ryan Destroys Reid Bill in Blistering Speech; ‘Let’s Cover the Moon with Yogurt!’

With a brilliant use of comical analogies, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) exposes the true nature of the "savings" in the Reid Debt Plan that President Obama was so quick to embrace.

Cover the moon with yogurt?

Fine.
I'm all for it, just as long as we send Harry Reed with a shovel to spread it.

That would be the first shovel ready job to come out of the Obama administration.

Thomasone   July 29th, 2011 - 2:02 pm

Washington is broken. Thank goodness Ryan is trying to fix it. Obama and the dems just want the debt limit raised until 2013 without any spending cuts. Obama is desperately trying to be a President who has never produced a budget. He is voting "present' as President. As Mark Levin has said, Obama is acting as if he's an innocent bystander. And now he is doing the only thing he is qualified to do: Community organizing as President. What a disgrace.

ditkasays   July 29th, 2011 - 2:03 pm

Ex wife "I saved 50 dollars today." "How did you do that?" "I bougt a purse for 600 dollars and it was marked down from 650. Ain't you proud of me?" Hand on face, elbow on knee. "Where did you get the 600 dollars?" "Oh, I used the rent money to save the 50 dollars." Sounds like a divorce coming any day now.

lebo2011   July 29th, 2011 - 2:05 pm

The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.

LizardLips   July 29th, 2011 - 2:06 pm

Let's look at Mr. Obama's plan;
Social Security, Medicare, Obamacare, free lunch, food stamps, unemployment checks, public schools, amnesty for illegal aliens, unions shutting down businesses, Wall Street bailouts, Big Business bailouts, Drone warfare(coming to this country soon)open borders, gays in the military, gay marriage, hate crimes legislation, walking guns into a foreign nation(aka aiding and abetting drug lords), onerous regulation, idiotic legislation(this one included), abrogation of congressional duties. Hmm, I could go on but why bother. I think that pretty well covers it.

I just hope that all Americans remember , when this is all over , all the disingenuous posturing , and blatantly false Propaganda that has emanated from the democratic party in their attempt to vilify conservatives over this ..

Do not forget …

The left in America have become nothing more than a shadow image of the old Soviet Propaganda machine. 100% agenda driven , no basis in fact whatsoever.

LuKuj   July 29th, 2011 - 2:10 pm

This is what we NEED! This is what we WANT. This is what will WORK. Ryan makes what the Dems are trying to do understandable to regular folks (well, maybe not the true blue liberals who live in an alternate reality).

Let's be clear about exactly why 2.3 trillion was the original "magic number" the deceptocrats insisted on…

This is all about B. Hussein Orwell's "EUTHANIZE GRANNY LAW" and nothing else.

There are literally thousands of regulations related to the "EUTHANIZE GRANNY LAW" that will kick in on January 1, 2012.

Without a debt limit increase authorization those job murdering regulations WILL NOT take effect and this places this hateful law in greater jeopardy when SCOTUS takes it up in April or March next spring…

Today, Paul Ryan and Allen West are two of the only heroes we have left.

Freedom_Czar   July 29th, 2011 - 2:22 pm

Is Thaddeus McCotter the only one in D.C. who recognizes the real source of our nation's problems and has any solutions in mind for us?

Quote:
McCotter identifies ideology and relativism as the twin evils of our time. Conservatism, properly grounded in the wisdom of the West, is the tonic. So practical policy remedies should reflect, and be accompanied by, a broader intellectual renewal.

Our public life should be revitalized through our a rich intellectual inheritance — the truth that government exists to secure our natural rights, a divine gift — combined with our repudiation of ideology itself, whether of the Left or Right.

While philosophy is a love of wisdom and a humble search for truth, ideology (based on class or race, or some other form of idolatry) is a narrow formula always promising human perfection and always delivering hell on Earth. No wonder that John Adams called ideology the "Science of Idiocy."

…But if American statesmen do their duty, McCotter predicts, the world once again will benefit, as it has done so in the past: "America's future does not lie in becoming a secular, cosmopolitan, socialist backwater. Our America is beautiful. She does not exist to emulate others; she exists to inspire the world."

How about we just cancel OBAMACARE andd save trillions right off the bat. Too bad Pelosi worries about true patriots causing the end of the world. Oh yeah -and term limits for Congress and no fat pension or healthcare package even if you only serve 2 yrs. This whole circus makes me sick.

bbierman   July 29th, 2011 - 2:30 pm

Brilliant! And this is called budgeting in Washington. Most of us have known this for a long time and this is the first we've heard someone in congress describe it correctly. Admitting there is a problem is the first step to fixing it, as they say in 12-step programs.

Divrack   July 29th, 2011 - 2:32 pm

Like i said earlier 535 people controlling 330 million of us. Can we stop with the PC speak and call them out for what they are ? They do it everyday with ambiguity and no one says a damn thing. Time to call them LIARS it their lying call them liars STOP the double standard They were calling us Terrorists for the last 3 days. The next time Obama or one of his hench men start with there LIES about default call them LIARS Ok ? You dont have to cover the moon with yogurt I know its an analolgy But why not say 'Mr Speaker your are full of sh*t not yogurt ! Fight fire with fire. Sorry if we we have sink to gutter discourse in the House of the "people " ( yea right) Better then that then what they are trying to peddle off to the dumb public who have NO clue as to what is going on They are more interested that the NFL got a contract and that's no joke or their Union got one. Ask your peers at work then go home and watch Clueless for a good laugh

Thinker822   July 29th, 2011 - 2:32 pm

While I appreciate McCotter (and have been receiving his email newsletters for many years), this post is pure pandering and is completely off topic. Let McCotter make his own headlines and get his own comments. He is fully capable.

Now wait lets compromise…instead of the moon just cover my home state with yogurt…cheesecake swirl please.

Thinker822   July 29th, 2011 - 2:37 pm

Yes, they worry me too. Real action to bring down the debt, not words, is what is needed now. Unfortunately, its Boehner's time to ACT and he flip flops to compromise like a fish out of water unless extreme pressure is put on him. If they aren't going to pass something serious to drastically reign in government and its spending, simply to get something accomplished, then let them default and feel the sting many American know about living within a limited budget.

Freedom_Czar   July 29th, 2011 - 2:37 pm

It is not off topic and is not pandering. It is pointing out the REAL source of our problems, budget-wise and otherwise–which is the PROBLEM of a bunch of pie-in-sky IDEOLOGIES that are tearing down our country and our world. Try not to be so narrow-minded and see the bigger picture. If more people saw the FOREST instead of the TREES, we would not be in this disgusting mess in the first place.

wohlfguy   July 29th, 2011 - 2:38 pm

Exactly with the Dems want to do Jackass. It is their reckless spending that helped to get us into this mess and now they attempt to fool us with fake savings and you far-left idiots by it hook, line and sinker. Look in the mirror for the sh*t brain.

Thinker822   July 29th, 2011 - 2:38 pm

Hey, I didn't take your point…but now that you've gone to the podium …what they heck. You turned the focus from Ryan and his words and placed it on McCotter and his words. In my view, either is a better man and choice for President than O.

B Your Union Credit union assures you get a loan
OR

TalkingDust   July 29th, 2011 - 2:49 pm

"…the status quo will never be toppled." Correct. Not with the dems controlling the Senate AND the White House. The House bill will simply not be voted on in the Senate or sent back, while Reid's bill will likely pass the Senate and get sent to the House, where it, too, will not pass muster.

The result? Default, come August 2nd. Then you-know-who's going to take teleprompter in-hand, sit in the Oval Office, and blame the Republicans.

http://paul.senate.gov/?p=home

TalkingDust   July 29th, 2011 - 2:57 pm

The Boehner bill, because it has the BBA (balanced budget amendment) in it, will be DOA upon its arrival in the Senate. Their actions will therefore have been an utter waste of precious time. 2/3 of the states will NOT ratify a BBA.

Reid's plan will also prove a waste of time, since it doesn't include the BBA the Tea Party Reps want.

Net result? Stalemate, followed by default.

Who's the president going to blame? Who's the House going to blame? He said, she said.

Observing these ridiculous machinations by both houses of Congress is like watching a Push-Me-Pull-You try to get anywhere. Does anyone else think Obama and the Dems want the default?

You put your left foot in, you pull your left foot out, you put your right foot in, and you twirl it all about…you do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around…that's what it's all about!

TalkingDust   July 29th, 2011 - 3:09 pm

Yes, I did actually. I've thought the chances were high that the MB would succeed in transforming Egypt into a sharia-state in the wake of Mubarak's ouster. They're also making overtures to Iran for an alliance.

Not only did the US just grant Egypt hundreds of millions in aid, but Chairman O also forgave their debt to us, while we're here wrangling over how we're going to salvage our collective financial tuchas.

As Boris used to say, "Big trouble for Moose and Squirrel."

TANSTAAFL   July 29th, 2011 - 3:11 pm

di_da_is_alpha   July 29th, 2011 - 3:16 pm

Hey little girl, I know you're young and inexperienced, so here's a real world fact for you to digest. In the real world, your credit rating gets downgraded if you max out your credit cards and only make minimum payments. It gets downgraded further if you get new credit cards and use those to make minimum payments on your old credit cards, thereby increasing your overall debt. Our national credit rating should have been downgraded years ago, so this is just fixing something that has been broken for quite some time. Sure, it MIGHT be painful for some, but in the long run, it will benefit all of us who aren't leeches.
