Real Chamber of Commerce Official Confronts Imposter at Hoax News Conference

"This is a fraudulent press activity and a stunt."

Editor's note: A number of news organizations fell for a text news release from the same group. See the CNBC video in the related section below.

Looks very staged. The guy at the podium looks like some qu33r guitarist from Stone Temple Pilots or something trying to look conservative.

Edd C Hendee   October 19th, 2009 - 10:52 pm

Looks like a scene from NBCs The Office – where is Michael? Oh – he’s the hoax – and Dwight is played by his frumpy girlfriend standing next to him. So what is the Chamber of Commerce going to do? CNBC fell for these guys fake news release and went with it LIVE! The eco freaks have found a chink in the armor – MEDIA IS STUPID! Watch how long it takes for the media to figure out who the real COC is! OMG. Morons. Absoute Morons…the media wanted to continue the Presser because the COC (fake) was saying what they wanted to hear. Who teaches JOURNALISM???? Nobody.

Robert   October 19th, 2009 - 10:53 pm

Does this guy know the earth has been cooling for the past 11 years?

Gandhi's Fist   October 19th, 2009 - 10:53 pm

And people believe the White House line on Fox news? More like it is the only voice in the wilderness who dares challenge Obama’s socialist administration and minion dems.

Terry Tibbs   October 19th, 2009 - 10:54 pm

Why is it I can look at this guy and size him up – he looks like some guy who has had some rough years in gay bathhouses and sun-tan salons? One of those guys who paints his fingernails and hangs out in parks.

Ron   October 19th, 2009 - 10:54 pm

Busted….. Not to articulate after the bust went down.

Terry Tibbs   October 19th, 2009 - 10:55 pm

Edd C Hendee – NBC’s “The Office” is unwatchable – do yourself a favor and buy the BBC version on DVD. Worth every penny.

Oh my God– they are all liars. Will the mainstream media report this???? This is getting worse by the day. Michael Savage was right , I don’t remember his exact words but something to this effect: Watch out when the rat gets cornered it will become vicious. I believe the rat has been cornered and it is striking out in so many directions we can’t even keep up– thank you Breitbart for continuing to provide us with real news. this clip is shameful– look what the left will do — lie and cheat and even admit they are lying but for our own good ( so they think) he admits he is not a rep of the US Chamber of Commerce but is speaking for the viewpoint they must take. God help us– we are in big trouble.

stacy   October 19th, 2009 - 11:11 pm

The real chamber of commerce dude is hot.

Stupidity can not be cured by medicinal marijuana . . . that girl was soooo baked.

muggins   October 19th, 2009 - 11:20 pm

I do believe that tomorrow I will hold a press conference representing what the White House should be espousing.

Rick DJ   October 19th, 2009 - 11:21 pm

He should be shot, he is a waste of air, a simpleton and as for his bint she looks like an idiot.

His statement caused a shift in the markets

FastFacts   October 19th, 2009 - 11:52 pm

Who in the heck does this guy think he is and how is this guy not finding himself behind bars. Just like if I said I was the President of the United States’ Assistant Secretary and then it was found out that I was full of crap, I would expect myself to be behind bars. I hope this guy does go behind bars and is sued by the Chambers for what ever group he is part of. There is no excuse for something like this and he needs to be put behind bars.

Look at the News Reporters report these fake claims on http://www.americanparchment.com. For that reason every news source should fillet this guy and any group he is part of.

BJC   October 19th, 2009 - 11:59 pm

What the hell? Is that an Emmanuel clone on drugs? Barbara Boxer’s son? Kerry’s lover? Gore’s lover? Obama’s long lost brother? He fits in with the idiots at the White House.

Early Cuyler   October 19th, 2009 - 11:59 pm

I’m going to guess he’s from the Sierra Club. The environmental wackos have gotten even crazier. My favorite part is at the end of the video when the woman is asking the fraud who he really is and the fraud says “this event is about what the only the only SANE thing for the US Chamber of Commerce to do.” The irony is overwhelming. What is sane about conducting a fraudulant press conference? Did this fraud not think that the COC would come out and correct these false statements. I also loved how he spoke about clean coal and solar energy: exactly like an environmental wacko. I hope this guy gets sued and/or goes to jail.

James K   October 20th, 2009 - 12:08 am

LOL! The girl in the back at the end was thinking “Oh $hit, we’re busted, let’s get out of here!”

Algore $$$$$$$$$$$$   October 20th, 2009 - 12:24 am

You CAN’T spell LIBERALISM without L-I-E-S

This is just 1 more example of how we MUST LIE, to fool the fools.

gd   October 20th, 2009 - 12:28 am

OMG! Someone please get to the bottom of this most typical of hoaxes! Did this guy grow up in Fort Collins Colorado? Believe nothing, ask a lot of questions…

WHO ARE THESE JERKS?   October 20th, 2009 - 1:12 am

WHAT is the POINT???? WHY are people pulling crap like this? Isn’t there enough CONFUSION & HYPOCRISY & LYING GOING ON ALREADY? What’s with all the HOAXES & IMPOSTERS lately???

PEOPLE, GET REAL!!! LIFE IS TOO SHORT FOR SUCH B.S.

HUH?   October 20th, 2009 - 1:13 am

This sounds like a Michael Moore stunt.

Chris Foster   October 20th, 2009 - 1:24 am

Amazing! Simply amazing. I wonder if they have ever been successful with this sort of thing?

Shiori   October 20th, 2009 - 1:39 am

So…was this hoax perpetrated by those who wish to expose and embarrass the press for the liberal hacks they are [Success] – or by the enviro-zombie movement in order to spread their false message of global destruction [Epic Fail]? Or maybe just some fraternity initiations? Truth or dare?

snaggletoothie   October 20th, 2009 - 1:54 am

That was weird.
I think this is the time and place for me to announce that I will hereafter represent the only position that Playboy International and Hugh Hefner can, in good conscience, take. Girls desiring my consideration should send their photos to Scott, who will forward them to me. If this works I’ll rent a meeting room at the Holiday Inn.

yotambian   October 20th, 2009 - 2:00 am

Hoax, Lies and Propoganda. Welcome to the Obamanation!

JohnnyAmerican   October 20th, 2009 - 3:05 am

This is fraud, this man and his associates should and will be arrested. If not prosecuted by the US chamber and their legal staff. People go to jail for this type of fraud.

Dave   October 20th, 2009 - 3:28 am

It’s Andy Bichlbaum of the group The Yes Men. they’ve been pulling lame stunts like this for years. goog them or check out the documentary of the same name. While a boring movie, it is nonetheless an interesting exploration of the relationship formed by two rather incompetent narcissists with too much time on their hands who kid themselves into thinking they’re promoting social awareness by pulling fraternity pranks on gullible journalists. While I’m sure the intent of this stunt was to shed light on what the pranksters deem to be the misguided policies of the chamber of commerce, instead it illuminated how quick the press is to run with any story that aligns with their desires and worldview. That reporter sounded rather upset that the chamber’s position might remain that “climate change does not exist” (I think she means anthropogenic global warming, but maybe I’m giving her too much credit.)

Have you ever noticed how global warming alarmists exhibit all the characteristics of those normally belonging to religious cults? (The numbered quotes below are from the American Family Foundation’s list of cult characteristics: http://www.prem-rawat-talk.org/forum/uploads/CultCharacteristics.htm)

1. “The group is focused on a living leader [e.g. The "Goracle" or the "One"--take your pick] to whom members seem to display excessively zealous, unquestioning commitment.”

2. “The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members.”

i. It is assumed (and expected) that you already accept man-made global warming as fact; after all, “the debate is over.”

3. “The group is preoccupied with making money.”

i. Al Gore, climatologists, green groups, General Electric, and the federal government (to name a few) are heavily invested in the business of global warming.

ii. For example, General Electric stands to make billions if Cap and Trade is enacted.

4. “Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.”

i. Questioning the theory of man-made global warming is tantamount to denying the holocaust (so don’t do it, you flat-earther, you!).

5. “Mind-numbing techniques are used to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s).”

i. Have you attended a university and/or watched mainstream media (e.g. MSNBC) lately?

ii. Again, we are told that “the debate [over global warming] is over.” That’s funny; I don’t remember there being a debate.

6. “The leadership dictates sometimes in great detail how members should think, act, and feel.”

i. The mantra is “green” is good, and everything else is an abomination.

7. “The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s), and members (for example: the leader is considered the Messiah or an avatar; the group and/or the leader has a special mission to save humanity).”

i. Those who live “green” lifestyles are saving the planet; everyone else is killing it.

ii. Recently, “[Nancy] Pelosi linked global warming to environmental justice, saying the right to a clean environment is also a human right” (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hLcZ2jQ4mu4rd7XlB3hetiVn1qbAD98F32AG0).

8. “The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which causes conflict with the wider society.”

i. Those who do not support “green” ideas, products, laws, etc. are heretics.

9. “The group’s leader is not accountable to any authorities.”

i. The Goracle flies to environmental speaking engagements in Gulf Stream jets while we, the commoners, are supposed to ride bikes to work and use one-ply toilet paper.

10. “The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify means that members would have considered unethical before joining the group (for example: collecting money for bogus charities).”

i. Obama believes the government should bankrupt the coal industry (through Cap and Trade legislation) even though most of our electricity comes from coal.

ii. The First World uses official development aid as tool to influence energy policy in the developing world by funding “green” energy projects (e.g. solar panels and wind farms) while refusing to fund “non-green,” cheaper, more reliable, energy sources (e.g. coal and natural gas).

11. “The leadership induces guilt feelings in members in order to control them.”

i. “What?! You’re not driving a hybrid?”

ii. If CO2 is a pollutant, then if you are exhaling, you are polluting. According to this logic, merely by existing, all humans are destroying the planet (Never mind the fact that volcanoes release far more CO2 each year than the entire human population combined). Therefore, it is extremely selfish to have children. In fact, any increase in the human population is bad. Human beings are a nothing more than a malignant growth on this planet.

12. “Members’ subservience to the group causes them to cut ties with family and friends, and to give up personal goals and activities that were of interest before joining the group.”

i. Obama (5/16/08): “We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times.”

I could keep going, but you probably get the idea.

Mike D   October 20th, 2009 - 4:46 am

Simply, just 2 important and significant observations… 1. I instantly recognized this guy claiming to represent the US CofC as the same guy who spoofed/scammed the BBC a year or two ago. He goes around doing this. 2. I, a Mr. nobody, nada, zilch, common person RECOGNIZED him instantly…. And I’m not with any media… Nada, Zilch, Common Person am I. This 2nd point emphasizes how ignorant AND biased the media is – It appears that no one there did any homework and hence did not recognize this as a stunt.. But I did. How’s that possible? The media are whores supporting liberal ideology wherever it is and whatever shape it takes (hence this meeting). The ’so serious’ questions asked by the MEDIA truly exposes their bias. It’s “NEWS” when the CofC ‘changes it’s global warming stance’.. hence all the Q and A’s etc. And did you notice, EVEN AFTER the REAL CofC stepped up, the glorious Media.. acted as though this was an ‘afront’ to the G.W. issue.. and asked and asked and continued to ask those their questions as if the REAL CofC was a part of this scam. Why? Because the media has their own supportive philosphy come heck or high water. This is truly, in my opinion, “the smoking gun”.

George Williams   October 20th, 2009 - 5:26 am

He is either Rahm’s cousin, nephew or relative. This guy needs to be prosecuted. This is one piece of sh*t.

You have got to be kidding me?   October 20th, 2009 - 6:58 am

What a thug. How dare you impose your ideals onto an organization like that? You are doing more harm to your cause than good. You make environmentalists look like the frauds they are.

Niles Lesh   October 20th, 2009 - 8:12 am

Eric Wohlschlegel’s dress shirt is worth more($100) than the fake guys entire wardrobe, I know it seems petty but seriously, clothes are a great way to out imposters.

I am pro farse and would like to see more imposters in the future How about a fake Press secretary Gibbs ???

jbone   October 20th, 2009 - 8:14 am

this guy is one of the “yes men” known for pulling off publicity stunts such as this.. you can see some of their other “work” at http://urbanprankster.com/category/activism/

Duude   October 20th, 2009 - 8:52 am

The Obama administration likely set this up.

pepito cojones   October 20th, 2009 - 8:56 am

Shouldn’t this guy be arrested for being and impostor and a fraud? Where was security? The Police? This scary freaky doofus with the bulged eyes reminded me of Robert Gibbs himself…

little fish   October 20th, 2009 - 9:45 am

I love the way the media just took the bait hook line and sinker. Goes to show you that nobody checked the facts before attending or after.

Our media is weak weak weak.

I would imagine if Elvis had a press conference today the wide eyed gullible media would also believe and report it as fact.

And why wasn’t this guy arrested on the spot?

eamon   October 20th, 2009 - 10:01 am

Question everything, trust no one.

Lying Liberals   October 20th, 2009 - 10:06 am

DID YOU HEAR THE GUY AT THE DOOR?

When the U.S. Chamber of Commerce guy asked who he was from [represented] He said “THE CENTER FOR AMERICAN PROGRESS”.

That shows you who was behind this fraud.

CommonSense   October 20th, 2009 - 10:55 am

These are the people who are running our country now – THIS IS THE NEW SOCIALIST/DEMOCRAT PARTY!
be affraid people – these are the clearly insane people who are ruining this country and destroying all hope for our children and grandchildren.

GOP = Gay Old Party   October 20th, 2009 - 11:27 am

HAHAHAHAHA…. wow. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Good for them. EFF the Chamber of Commerce.

BK   October 20th, 2009 - 11:28 am

Every one of those so called “journalists” in attendance here should be fired for failing to verify the guy was indeed with the COC and the imposter should be brought up on any criminal charges that may apply to this so called “news conference” and his impersonation / misprepresentation of the COC.

Cold Warrior   October 20th, 2009 - 11:34 am

The real story here is how the “National Press Club” (supposedly “real” investigative journalists) allowed itself to be duped so easily — and did you see afterwards how supposed “investigative journalists” in the audience never got the clown to give his real name? They asked him questions at the end despite NEVER GETTING HIS REAL IDENTITY???? What in the world do they teach in journalism schools? ANYTHING about how to interview people????

Conservative? Want to DO SOMETHING to save this country? Something REAL? That works? It’s called party politics. Go here to learn more:

http://www.theprecinctproject.wordpress.com

If you are a conservative and a Tea Partier you now need to “party” in a political party: the Republican Party. It’s at half strength in terms of precinct committeemen (”PCs”). Half the PC slots are vacant. Those that are filled are split about 50-50 between conservatives and moderates. That’s why we have such weak “leadership” and so many weak, milk toast moderate candidates.

What to change that to a 75-25 split, with conservatives in the majority? Then JOIN the Party as a PC. PCs vote for the leadership of the Party; registered voters don’t. PCs can vote (assuming they are in the majority) to endorse the BEST conservative candidates in the primary elections; registered voters can’t.

Want a more conservative Republican Party? Well, if you’re a conservative, then you’ve got to become a PC. This is basic civics. It’s a pure numbers game. The more conservatives in the Party, the more conservative will be the leadership and candidates.

Ever hear an elected “conservative” in the Party tell you about this? No? Know why? BECAUSE THEY ARE TERRIFIED THAT THE “UNWASHED MASSES” OF THE TEA PARTIERS WILL INVADE THE PARTY AT THE PRECINCT COMMITTEEMAN LEVEL AND THROW THEM OUT IN THE 2010 PRIMARY ELECTIONS, TOO.

Thank you.
Cold Warrior
American first, conservative second, Republican precinct committeeman by necessity.

liberalshmucks   October 20th, 2009 - 11:37 am

the phony commerce guy does this all the time. hbo documentary on them, they go around having phony press conferences and have been on world news as fake researchers to push the extreme left wing ideals onto the public fraudulently.

GOP = Gay Old Party   October 20th, 2009 - 11:48 am

BK said “Every one of those so called “journalists” in attendance here should be fired for failing to verify the guy was indeed with the COC…”

You’re just jealous because they actually have jobs. Don’t be bitter, bro.

Karen R   October 20th, 2009 - 3:21 pm

One of the posters above is correct -this guy is a scam artist and has made a “movie” called “Yes Men Fix the World”. He has perpetrated hoaxes like this before. You can go here to see a short video, but there are other sources for finding him out as well. Hope this guy is prosecuted severely for this and the other hoaxes he has perpetrated. His hoaxes can realistically be considered political and economic terrorism.

Wow   October 20th, 2009 - 3:57 pm

Seriously!?!?! Is this what our politics are coming to?!?! A bad reality show production???? If this guy was pulling a hoax… why did they NOT arrest him on the spot!??! Seriously people…wake the heck up… what is going on in our country that this garbage can happen?!?!?

We are doomed.

Phil   October 20th, 2009 - 4:47 pm

jarrod   October 21st, 2009 - 3:02 am

The (GAY OLD PARTY) guy is what we are up agianst. Truth does not matter. Most people go to bed at night and give a honest assesment to their choices and beliefs. there is truth out here, but if you dont want to here it you wont no matter what. The GOOD BOOK takes alot of heat but it is perfectly true! Jesus saves! 30 years ago this would have been on all of the news channels.follow up storys also to expose the liar.

Jay   October 21st, 2009 - 12:42 pm

They should have arrested this twink for crimes against nature and impersonating a man without a license. He is such an obvious tool even for the Obama administration, they have a strict policy of “butching it up” when on camera.

Andy   October 21st, 2009 - 4:44 pm

What a cowardly, creepy weasel! Somebody please tell me criminal charges are going to be brought up on this d*uchebag. The woman standing next to him looks confused and ashamed, as she should be.

Did anyone catch the idiot journalist in the front row wearing the dumb hat? At the 1:53 mark?

Retarded Journalist: Are you interrupting a press conference?
Eric Wohlschlegel: Yes I am. This guy does not represent the Chamber of Commerce.
RJ: Can we finish (inaudible)?
EW: No. This is not an official Chamber of Commerce… This is not…
RJ: I’m on a deadline.
EW: Yeah. Got it.

Is this not indicative of how inept the press has become? This guy isn’t concerned that he just took notes on the ramblings of a con-man. He’s worried about his deadline? WTF?

It seems as if the press were more inconvenienced by Wohlschlegel’s interuption than they were by the fact that they were all made to look stupid and unprofessional.
