Raw: Russia Puts on Soviet-Style Show of Military Might in Red Square

AFP: "We are sure that any aggression against our citizens will be given a worthy reply," President Dmitry Medvedev said in a speech in Red Square side-by-side with powerful Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. "The victory over fascism is a great example and a great lesson for all peoples and is still current today when people are again starting military adventures," he added.

I feel sorry for the liberty loving Russian people.

I believe most of the Russian people are good.

The leadership of Russia however is mean, greedy and obstinate.

Russia should be our natural allie and work with us to achieve common goals of defense of freedom and christian ethics.

It’s very sad that the Russian government seems to insist on taking the wrong side in most evey issue and befriending our enemies.

I blame the former Soviet Union and the KGB for about 80% of the current ills facing the world today.

From the great movie “Patton”

RUSSIAN TRANSLATOR TO PATTON AT BANQUET WITH THE RUSSIANS: “Excuse me sir, General Katzkoff? wishes to know whether you will join him to drink the surrender of Germany.”

PATTON TO TRANSLATOR : ” My compliments to the General, please inform him that I don’t care to drink with him or with any other Russian sonofa*bit*ch.”

TRANSLATOR: “I cannot tell the General that.”

PATTON: “You tell him that, word for word.”

Wait til the gift giving starts.

Putin will give Obama a pair of navy blue, his and hers military hats as shown at minute .03 of the video.

Obama will give Putin a pair of seats on the US Supreme Court.

Tubby, you are totally delusional. The Russians have done nothing to provoke us yet the U.S. continued under Clinton and Bush to support Muslim regimes against Christians. We insulted the Russians and disrespected them and what happened in Georgia was a total disgrace when Georgian goons supported by Israeli and and U.S. weapons sought to spread out Western influence that has been Russian for centuries. The U.S. is wrong in this matter and I support the Russian’s completely in their efforts.

Jeff Daniels, those are good points and I agree there have been some missteps on USA’s part since the cold war “ended” ie. enlarging NATO, not backing Serbia, but I do believe that overall the USSR was a force for evil on this earth for over seventy years and I see the current Russia as potential threat.

I would say that your statement “Russia has done nothing to provoke us” is a bit simplistic when you look a recent naval maneuvers in the caribbean and Russias dealing with Iran and it’s oppostion to our SDI program.

I am saddened by what has become of Russia since the day Yeltsin left office. I saw Putin for what he was from day one. A tyrant, and a ruthless one at that. Unless one is prepared to do absolutely anything, one cannot rise to the top of a one party system, especially in a country with such a long history of one party rule, and where virtually everybody of age to be anywhere in its administration is a graduate of the KGB or Kommsommol.
Today’s Russia is nothing more than a fascist version of the old Soviet Union. Fascism being that the means of prodution are held in private hands, but those “private hands” dare not even go to the loo without Moscow’s knowledge or permission.
Thus I find it the ultimate irony that this parade was celebrating the defeat of fascism!
My study of Russian history tells me that Putin is out to realize the dream that all Russian leaders have had since Russia first coalesced as a viable state: Obtaining dominion from the Pacific to the atlantic, and from the Arctic to the Indian. what has eluded them is a warm water coean port in the south. Thus it is not for nothing that they are courting Iran nd encouraging a conflict in the middle east that could result in the destruction or Iran… after all, Bandar Abbas would be a wonderful spot for a port and naval base, and imagine thepower if they could control the Shatt-al-Arab!
It is indeed a perfect storm that is brewing, as Israel and Iran head for conflict (which will result in the destruction of Iran) and a pathetically weak American President who has indiczted that he is ready to sell out Poland and eastern Europe as Chamberlain did in 1939.
Watch Ukraine: the discord that has resulted in the fall of the government there was not accidental…Wacth for a pro-Russian puppet government to win elections later this year…After all, ho long will rissia tolerate having to lease Sebastopol? (a sorry second best to a warm water port on the Indian Ocean).
And finally watch for Russia to test the waters by smahing Georgia militarily later this year. It would give them a great jump-off point to send troops into Iran to “restore order” once Israel bombs them.
Those tanks will roll sooner than one thinks.

Russia, way to flex those muscles. unfortunately us westerners aren’t dumb enough to play into your scare tactics……

Kudos on stabilizing your military program but lets be honest you’ll always be a distant 3-4th in world power rankings and continue to play “second fiddle” to the global power, the USA!!!

Looks like one hell of a parade! Beautiful day, everyone dressed up in their best digs, probably fun to watch. I think the Chinese march with more discipline, and our guys (American) our too busy out fighting or training to fight to always march in such nice parades, but I’m sure it was a sight to see. Without getting all political, I appreciate that the Russians still have a sense of national pride. I wish America had more.

I feel sorry for all the poor saps that had to be in the parade. Getting up @ss early, getting drilled down over and over again, then having to stand around doing nothing till it is time to march, then marching for hours…You probably felt pride in your country for about 10 minutes on the parade floor, the rest of the time you would probably be thinking, when will this *%^&$#$ day end…

Why do totalitarian regimes always insist on goose-stepping like a bunch of jackasses while wearing gaudy uniforms with waaaaaay too many medals? Where did all those medals come from considering they haven’t seen a real war since they left Afghanistan in the late 1980’s? Every single one of them does it: North Korea, Cuba, China, all the Arab countries, Iran, the good old German Nazis – all a bunch of goose-stepping jackasses with a bunch of phony medals and gold braid. At least the Germans had a disciplined army. The rest are a bunch of clowns in their own little unseen propaganda movie.

I hope we never see that crap in America, but Obama does have his “City Year” thugs to make nice little brownshirts before graduating to goose-stepping jackassery. Heaven help us.
