Mixed emotions watching this. It is great to see regular Americans standing up for themselves. The thieves took the risk; the consequence was tragic but it was their fault. And as earlier voices said here, people have had enough. But here is my concern: the silent majority may have roiled in silence too long. I am concerned about the potential of a huge explosion from Americans who have had enough of illegal immigration, reverse racism, etc. The silent majority needs to begin speaking NOW to prevent an explosion later. Start with plugging in to the political process, working for solid candidates who promote justice for all, VOTING for the candidates who will appoint judges who understand their roles of enforcing the law and not making the laws. And I feel sorry for the neighborhood in the video; if it is like most neighborhoods, it is comprised of good people from multiple ethnic groups. Hopefully the neighborhood will not become fractured over the events of the day.

If it were your family members who got shot and killed because they broke into a house with no weapons on them, the tables would be turned. You would be ensuring the man responsible for their deaths would spend a lengthy time in jail.

At the time, there might NOT have been danger. But surely, two thieves that are bold enough to break into a house in a middle class neighborhood in broad daylight would have no compunction to harm any person who had the “gall” to investigate them or watch them.

Therefore, it is perfectly reasonable to assume that when Mr. Horn went outside they came after him and threatened him — and there is NO law that prevents Mr. Horn from walking outside his home.

They broke in during the day because they assumed the owners would be at work and were precisely NOT seeking a confrontation. That crowd in Houston may likely be a group of neighbors and supporters of a man dealing with a criminal element, but such a scene is like a magnet for the racists like some who have posted here. How do you seperate normal people from the venom spewed out by the racists. All races have this job, whether blacks calling out the Plack Panthers as the racists as they are, or other posters calling out racist posters here like Ray, or latinos calling out La Raza.

There is a failry large Hmong population in my small city.
They’re doing quite well since they ionitially came here.
Some have been here approx 25 years.
They have a Hmong Association.
Some of them have EARNED quite a nice life here.

When a Hmong commits a crime, there is no demonstration and they never get together as a group like these X clowns in Houston.

I once attended a gun show in the Dallas area (that’s where people get together to buy and sell weapons and memorabilia and such). Most of the people selling were middle aged white men of course. Several members of the New Black Panthers came in, wearing all black with their logo on their T-shirts. There was no particular tension in the air. They were chatting and shopping right beside men and women of all races and ages. So let’s not get too carried away with the generalizations about either side. But the scenario were are talking about here is far from that scenario. This killing was done in defense of property — which I would not kill for, nor feel any guilt about not killing for. There’s difference between the man on the street and a stranger in your bedroom. Sometimes the decision time is no longer than a split second between life and death. The thief knows full well what might happen and chances are HE is prepared to deal with you. Which side will I err on? Definitely on the side of my safety over his. Now, this old gentleman was definitely revved up, but only the inquest will show if they were indeed coming at him. If the gun were in my hand and they were, I’d shoot to stop them straight on. You’re getting desperate. The whole Roman army wasn’t there to arrest Jesus and it wasn’t a matter of whether or not Peter could have stopped it, Jesus didn’t want THAT stopped so he put Peter in check to keep Peter from getting killed himself. In short, the existence of “Hell” is widely debated among Christian scholars because the word “Hell” does not exist in the original Greek texts — only in the modern language translations. The issue is regarding the definition of the word “Hell,” not whether or not Jesus talked about “it,” The best thing I can do is encourage you to look into the Greek root words and consider trying to find a way to take a class in Ancient Greek. It’s worth looking into, it really changed my life! I’ll search around and try to post some links to some resources for you if you are interested.

Regarding Hell: You’re not looking deeply enough into the meaning of ‘Gehenna’ — keep going. It is not originally a Greek word — its meaning is a transliteration of a Hebrew word meaning “The Valley of the Sons of Hinnom” (Hinnom was a person’s name). It came to be associated with death because the Ancient Hebrews used to make child sacrifices there. It definitely is “the other way around” — the word “Gehenna” was named after the Valley.

Pasadena police say Horn shot 2 men in the back

The two burglary suspects killed by Pasadena homeowner Joe Horn were shot in the back after they ventured into his front yard, police disclosed Friday.

In another twist, investigators revealed that a plainclothes Pasadena detective witnessed the Nov. 14 shootings after he pulled up in an unmarked car seconds before Horn fired three shots from his 12-gauge shotgun.

The men, who had just burglarized Horn’s neighbor’s house, faced him from seven to 10 feet away when they ignored his order to “not move”or they would be dead, police said.

The controversial shootings have outraged minority activists but also brought an outpouring of support for Horn.

“We now have a summary documenting what we think happened,” said Capt. A.H. “Bud” Corbett. “We will turn it over to the district attorney in a couple of weeks after we do an extensive review for quality control.”
The district attorney will then present the case to a grand jury to determine if any charges should be filed against Horn, 61, a computer consultant, who has claimed self-defense.

The two men — Diego Ortiz, 30, and Hernando Riascos Torres, 48 — collapsed and died not far from Horn’s home on Timberline in a Pasadena neighborhood.

Both were illegal immigrants from Colombia, authorities said. Torres had been deported to Colombia in 1999 after serving time for possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Both were also using fake identification cards and aliases, and their backgrounds are now being scrutinized by federal authorities to determine if they were part of a Colombian fake ID and burglary ring, authorities said.

On Friday, Corbett described the shooting scenario that had been pieced together so far.

According to a transcript of Horn’s 911 call, at 2 p.m., he became concerned that his next- door neighbor’s home was being burglarized after hearing some glass break.

Corbett said the plainclothes detective, whose name has not been released, had parked in front of Horn’s house in response to the 911 call. He saw the men between Horn’s house and his neighbor’s before they crossed into Horn’s front yard.

Corbett believes neither Horn nor the men knew a police officer was present.

“It was over within seconds. The detective never had time to say anything before the shots were fired,” Corbett said. “At first, the officer was assessing the situation. Then he was worried Horn might mistake him for the ‘wheel man’ (get-away driver). He ducked at one point.”

When Horn confronted the suspects in his yard, he raised his shotgun to his shoulder, Corbett said. However the men ignored his order to freeze.
Corbett said one man ran toward Horn, but had angled away from him toward the street when he was shot in the back just before reaching the curb.

“The detective confirmed that this suspect was actually closer to Horn after he initiated his run than at the time when first confronted,” said Corbett. “Horn said he felt in jeopardy.”

The wounded man crossed the street, collapsed and died, authorities said. At the same time, the other man had turned and ran away from Horn. Horn swung his shotgun around after shooting the first man and fired at the second one after he entered the neighbor’s yard, investigators said.
He was hit in the back but continued running until collapsing a few hundred yards down the street, Corbett said.

According to a final ruling, Ortiz died of shotgun wounds to his neck and torso, said Ellie Wallace, an investigator at the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The report said that Torres died of shotgun wounds to his torso and upper left extremity.

Wallace could not confirm whether the men were shot in the back, saying the autopsy report only indicated they were shot in the torso.
Neither suspect was armed, but one had a “center punch,” a 6-inch pointed metal tool, in his pocket that might be used as a weapon, authorities said.

Horn’s attorney, Charles T. Lambright, said his client fired in self-defense because he feared for his life.

“One of them (suspects) moved and Joe thought he was coming towards him,” Lambright said. “They were in such close proximity (to Horn) that they could be on top of him in half a second.”

The fact that a police officer witnessed the shooting but did not arrest Horn is further evidence that he acted in self-defense, he said.

“You’ve got a trained police officer sitting there watching this, and he doesn’t arrest Horn,” Lambright said. “If the (plainclothes) officer thought it was not a righteous shooting, maybe the Pasadena Police Department would have arrested Mr. Horn for murder.”

Civil rights activist Quanell X said he would step up the call for a murder indictment against Horn, and questioned whether the Pasadena police should investigate the case.

Quanell X said the shooting should be handled instead by the Texas Rangers and the FBI.

“I don’t trust the Pasadena Police Department,” Quanell X said. “Why are they just now releasing the fact that an undercover officer witnessed the whole thing? This case stinks.”
