Rare Color Film of Japanese WWII Surrender Discovered

“It was my father’s film. So, it was in his basement until he passed away,” says retired Army Colonel Bill Kosco. Kosco’s father is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. When retired Captain George Kosco died in 1985 he left behind mementos from his time as a meteorologist and navigator in the Navy. “This is an album my father put together, files and photographs he obtained on board the USS Missouri.”

Poor Tom Hanks is crying all over again for the japanese because they did not win the war that they started against innocent people in HI. Obama is crying too.

LaffinatLeftist   September 2nd, 2010 - 3:18 pm

When obummer gets his ass tossed out of office I want someone to play Douglas McArthur when he closed the "article of surrender" and said, "these proceedings are CLOSED!"….

ocjohn   September 2nd, 2010 - 3:21 pm

Great historical video. The U.S. was generous to its enemies.

I_H8_BOR   September 2nd, 2010 - 3:23 pm

More proof that only Dem Presidents can win Great Wars. Now we can add Obama to the list. too bad Iraq was not a great war but a great mistake.

Chuck47   September 2nd, 2010 - 3:24 pm

Send a copy to Obama and show him what VICTORY looks like. The only thing that they missed in this surrender was making them frog march to the table before signing.

This is the sort of stuff that embarasses our leader. We are embarassed by everything he does.
Two months to lame duck.

Talengtp   September 2nd, 2010 - 3:24 pm

In light of this new film footage, Obama is scheduling a trip to Japan to apologize for the victory….oh, and to play golf too.

Commieobamie   September 2nd, 2010 - 3:31 pm

Did you see when MacArthur bowed down to the Japanese? I didn't think so.
That's how you win a war.
The muslim USURPER will bow down to islam.

Makahala   September 2nd, 2010 - 3:31 pm

Very cool!

Talengtp   September 2nd, 2010 - 3:34 pm

And Vietnam is a great example of how Democrat driven "rules of engagement" hamper our efforts for victory and needlessly put our troops in harms way. For example, when McNamara asked the heads of the Air command for a complete list of potential bombing targets and to list them in order of priority, the administration took the list, REVERSED the order, sent it back to the Air command and said start bombing. You had pilots flying through SAM defenses and radar stations to bomb bicycle trails. I know an F4 driver from Vietnam, and he would tell me stories about flying over the ports on missions and watching the V.C. unload the anti-air weapons that they will use to shoot at him the next day…and he couldn't do a damn thing about it because some little straw hut guard shack needed bombing.

I_H8_BOR   September 2nd, 2010 - 3:36 pm

If i remember correctly, Nixon lost Vietnam. After he ran on cutting and running in Vietnam , he stayed and killed many many more GI's. and the GOP was turgid every time a flag drapped coffin came home.

But you do have Grenada. LOL dont forget Grenada

rynnjacobs   September 2nd, 2010 - 3:41 pm

Calvin0007   September 2nd, 2010 - 3:56 pm

I would wait a couple of years before I celebrate the great victory of "Barack Obama" ( the victory was won before BO got into office). At the rate he is going Iraq will fail and it will take Sarah Palin to fix it.

Talengtp   September 2nd, 2010 - 3:59 pm

No, you don't remember correctly. Johnson and his administration were trying to run the war from the White House (he bragged that "they can't even bomb a outhouse without my say so") , and using a bean counting mentality that put # of sorties flown as a priority. In fact, at one point, there was a massive arms shortage (thanks to de-arming efforts after Korea) and you had a situation where a squadron of F-105s had only 8 bombs allotted for the day. An F-105 can carry 8 bombs. Instead of sending ONE F-105 (and only endangering 1 pilot…f-105 drivers didn't have a long life expectancy either) with 8 bombs, they sent 8 F-105s with one bomb each….so they could make their sortie quotas. The war at this point was a giant mess.
Nixon campaigned on getting the troops OUT of the war, and in December 1970, there were 350,000 American troops in South Vietnam. By September 1972, there were just 40,000. Moreover, in this time he put the war back into the hands of the Generals, rewrote the rules of engagement and let our troops fight the war with a chance of winning.
Kennedy (D) got us involved in the war. Johnson (D) escalated it massively. Nixon (R) listened to the American people, stuck by his campaign promise and got us out of the war. Not exactly what I would call cut & run.

antilibtards   September 2nd, 2010 - 4:08 pm

He does and with tongue too. Creepy lib.

antilibtards   September 2nd, 2010 - 4:14 pm

They can record Obama's impeachment for treason in color or black and white. Either will be ok.

Obama is America's first muslim president and first muslim president that also claims to be christian. A christian who greatly supports abortion. What a joke.

rynnjacobs   September 2nd, 2010 - 5:38 pm

So I was right then.

Talengtp   September 2nd, 2010 - 5:42 pm

WTF are u talking about? Nixon was President from 69-74. He stuck to his guns and pulled the troops out. What are you talking about with cut and run? He promised to get us out of the Vietnam war and he did. What cut & run? I mean, Jesus H Christ, are you seriously this thick headed?

I_H8_BOR   September 2nd, 2010 - 5:59 pm

69-74. Let me do the math ….carry the 1 …..that looks like 5 years. Now lets see when he cut and run ? Hey you didnt put that date in your post. 73. took him a while to cut and run. so many deaths, so much for a GOP war win.

CBrooks1976   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:02 pm

HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! you don't believe that.

AlmostDailey   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:08 pm

That was spectacular to bring back that moment in time. Though we've watched it from different angles… Each time it fortifies my pride in the greatest generation, what they sacrificed and so much they gave to America. This film was thrilling to watch and gave me goose bumps. Thank you Kosco family.

Talengtp   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:15 pm

Ahhh ok, I understand now. You're just a stupid liberal who lives so detached from reality that you believe a president can just snap his fingers and all the troops come back home. If you truly believe that, then how come your precious Obama didn't do that 2 years ago? You're calling it a cut & run, but what you WANTED him to do was cut & run, meaning just pull everyone out and leave the locals to fend for themselves.

The irony is that you lack the basic mental capacity to understand this, while at the same time calling everyone else retarded. I guess that's really all you have is name calling. Facts just get in the way don't they? I should have known better, you can't even handle basic math. The last troops came out in Jan of 73. Nixon took office Jan 69….That's 4 years genius…And he started the 1st reduction of troops (by 25,000) in June of 69….5 months after taking office.

I_H8_BOR   September 2nd, 2010 - 6:20 pm

Nixon's Operation Linebacker II,…. the Christmas bombing that led to the The Paris Peace Accords of January 1973, established peace in Vietnam and an end to the Vietnam Conflict, after that the 93-94th American Demorat Congress DE-FUNDED South Vietnam (against the peace treaty that U.S.A. signed) This led to the fall of Saigon also leading to Pol Pot's take over of Cambodia and millions died. Thank you demorat Congress. Cut run 93 and 94 congress invented it.

A fantastic generation indeed. Wonderful footage. I am so glad that President Obama was able to pass the healthcare reform that President Harry S. Truman fought so hard for at that time but was unable to accomplish.

ronfromflorida   September 2nd, 2010 - 7:01 pm

Great Video !!!
I do wish there was an audio or crawler explaining who was signing what.
I can't believe the Jap leaders came on to the Mo in bosins chairs. HAha aa
Thanks…

Saddaem Hussein should have been forced to personally show up in the desert and sign the surrender terms after the first Gulf war which might have eliminated the need for the second Gulf War, Lets never make that mistake again.

mediazorba   September 2nd, 2010 - 7:05 pm

I hope Obama doesn't see this film…..It would give him nightmares for weeks! Then again, maybe he should see it….

I to want thank the late President Harry S. Truman for making the tough decision that helped end the war in the Pacific. My father was in Atlantic training in the Navy when VE day came. If Truman hadn't made that call, my father would have been transfered. Thank you, Mr. President, for being pro-life. I was born 6 years after the war. This was wonderful, moving video…thank you for sharing.

croashun   September 3rd, 2010 - 6:30 am

On Sentosa Island in Singapore there is a memorial diorama depicting WWII events. Japanese tourists today visit and photograph the exhibit showing the surrender to the Japanese of the British, Australian, New Zealand, Dutch and Thai defenders who formed the prisoner workforce for the construction of the bridge over the River Quai. No Japanese visit the exhibits depicting the bombs or the surrender to MacArthur of the Japanese. It is just as spooky to see the boatloads of Japanese tourists visiting the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor. Not that I don't like and respect our Japanese friends today. I was 7 years old when I learned of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. I had a different opinion of them then.

croashun   September 3rd, 2010 - 6:36 am

I was among the wildly cheering immense crowd that lined the Midway Plaisance in Chicago when MacArthur made his triumphal motorcade in the United States after being recalled by Truman. I always respected Truman for authorizing the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki but I always hated him for recalling MacArthur. What would the United States have looked like today if MacArthur had become the American Julius Caesar?
Interesting fantasy.

H2K   September 3rd, 2010 - 10:52 am

Breathtaking. We could only hope to aspire to that generation's greatness. Both my Father and Uncle were in WWII. My Uncle flew on 25 bomber missions. The probability of his surviving those missions was minuscule. Both of these men are still with us and they have a quiet reverence and strength that very few of the current generation have – or even understand.
Without that generation, I can't imagine the type of world we would be living in now.

This is a moment of history captured on film that Americans AND Japanese should celebrate together. That after the brutal naked Japanese aggression the conquerors should be so benevolent and kind is astonishing. That's not how it happened in antiquity. I should mention that the Enola Gay which dropped the first bomb was built only a few miles from my house. You are welcome Japan. It saved millions of lives combined !

Buffoon! I didn't like Bush but he implemented the surge and set the date for the Iraqi pullout against senator barry's advice. Now barry tries to take the credit. The Viet Nam war was a completely democratic debacle. They started it and refused to let the military win it. If you really think about it, the democrats are a disaster at everything they do.
