His group has protested at many venues I thought to be Innapropriate. They were there the day I married my partner in SF/CA 2004. Bullhorns Blaring, posters waving. Did I get upset? NO. Why? No, most of us are talking about decorum.

The Right of Free Speech doesn’t contain a right to act like a lunatic and disturb or harass others. It just means a citizen has a right to criticise their government without fear of reprisal for doing so, from their government.

So, everyone’s got that right. They don’t have the right (nor any “right”) to impose their views with force or forcibly on other citizens. The President, I note, is also a citizen.

I think the question here IS decorum and the utter selfishness of those who engaged in this violent, obnoxious outburts. It’s amazing how the postings from people on the far right keep referring to the Second World War to get “examples” of how “we have to remember history to keep from repeating it” while being ignorant of that history. Spotter6 is a classic example. Some of the information he supplies is accurate—the French did fight a costly four year war with the Germans in World War I and did collapse in six weeks after the German assault in 1940. However, the rest of his statement regarding the cause of that collapse is utter nonsense. The French did not lose because they did not have the “will” to fight due to “Liberals”. They lost because they did not understand the concept of mobile warfare and the Germans did. French armor was more numerous and often of better quality than the German counterpart. Unfortunately, the French were guilty of that fatal flaw that is so common with losing armies—they fought the current conflict with the last conflict’s tactics. The First World War was fought behind trenches and fixed fortifications. The French felt that they could reproduce their successes of that war by building the Maginot Line. Their armor was not concentrated into armored units but served as auxiliary forces attached to the infantry. The result was disaster. Though the Germans had less armor, they concentrated it into mobile units that could bring a large number of tanks into a small area, gain tactical superiority, overwhelm the defensive positions, and strike deep behind enemy lines, disrupting communications and spreading chaos. Whenever their armor met an organized strong point (like a fortification or city), they would not attempt to take the position but would simply go around it and allow the following infantry units to take it instead. The result is a tactic we know as “blitzkrieg”. The Germans also attacked in a heavily wooded area (the Ardennes) that was considered to be unsuitable for armor and gained a critical element of surprise from which the French never recovered. Once the river Meuse was crossed the French position was untenable and defeat assured.

I might add that the British troops were also unable to withstand the German onslaught. So unless it is your claim that they too were victims of “liberals” who did not want to “take risks”, you have to concede that something else was in play. That was, of course, superior German strategy and tactics.

As an ironic aside, the general who initiated and planned the 1940 assault was Gen. Erich von Manstein who was a student of a brilliant English military historian, Liddell Hart. Hart noted the importance of armor in future wars after his experiences in World War I. German officers like von Manstein, Rommel, and Guderian took note and adopted many of his suggestions. The French and British armed forces ignored him and were soundly defeated as a result.

For all of those who think Bush lied about WMD’s, just answer me a few questions. Why did the Senate Intelligence Cmte, who had access to the EXACT same intelligence as Bush, approve the use of force? Why did 18 other nations agree that he was on the verge of using WMD’s and needed to be stopped? Why did the UN pass sanctions calling for Hussein to stop the WMD’s if he didn’t have any? Why did Hussein tell his interrogators that he WANTED people to believe he had them so that he would retain power? Why did the Israeli intelligence track 17 tractor-trailer trucks moving into Syria the day of the attacks and those trucks cannot be found (the license plate was Iraqi)?

Answer these questions and we can talk. Until then, start looking at the big picture. If Bush is successful in implementing a semi-Democracy in Iraq, he will have effectively put a buffer between Iran and Syria making their coordinated support of terrorism much more difficult. AND it makes the gulf more secure.

I do belive that the French were outgunned and totally out flanked by the Wermacht in the May offensive that took the French out of the war in just six weeks as you and others correctly stated. German Panzers were superior to their French conterparts (larger guns, further range) and no doubt their tacticts were totally superior and revolutionary. Remember Rommel was the commander of the “Ghost Division” so named by running hard just as you correctly described and bypassing heavily fortified positions. I think the real reason the French folded like a cloth napkin was that they had lost an entire generation of young men just 20 years before(1 million dead). They just didn’t have the stomach for that amount of carnage again. The French Resistance operated very bravely though. Liberalism or conservatism had little to do with their defeat in my opinion. Good info though. The Soviets wound up out manuvering the Germans and had a superior tank to the Germans, the T34 by ‘42 or so. The greatest tank battles ever were fought on the Eastern Front and if you think about it Communists are liberals taken out the farthest extreme, right? Oh, the Germans bypassed the Ardennes and took the easy route through Belguim but in late ‘44 busted through the woods of the Ardennes trying a last gasp offensive that became the Battle of the Bulge. I had an uncle there, with the 101st Airborne. He was wounded twice but lived to be 75 years old. I have his original combat jump wings, I’m very proud of him and all he served and sacrificed with, be they libs or cons.

Our armed forces have armored Humvees, Bradley armored vehicle, Abrams tanks, Predator drones, Blackhawk helicopters, cruise missiles, fighter bomber close air support, artillery support, body armor, night vision goggles, weapons that can shoot thousands of rounds in the blink of an eye, and computerized everything. They have AK47’s and RPG’s (vintage Viet Nam War). Oh, and they have IED’s. They fight with the weapons they have. If you were them how would YOU fight?

I have a feeling that “Libs” will do their share of the fighting, too and that includes the little old lady with the big purse. So here is my question. WHY ARE WE STILL GOING THROUGH THESE RIDICULOUS CHECK POINTS IN THE AIRPORTS? These security people have inspected millions of people and have yet to locate and stop ONE terrorist attack. You have a much higher probability of dying driving to the airport than you do of dying in a “terrorist” attack on that airplane. Maybe it’s time sanity replaces hysteria in our daily lives.

Your uncle sounds like quite a guy. Hang on to those wings—your kids will want them. My father was a Marine who served in the Pacific. He enlisted in the summer of 1941 just a few months before Pearl Harbor (he always had a great sense of timing). I have a “love letter” he wrote to my mother (she kept them all) that is dated, Dec. 7, 1941. All he talked about was how much he missed her and how he hoped that he could get leave to visit her over Christmas. After he mailed it he heard the news about the attack. It’s ironic how things turn out sometimes.

I agree that Pres. Bush was in a tight spot. After 9-11 he must have had a real “OH, CRAP!” moment when he realized that as bad as it was, it could have been a lot worse. By all reports, there was a lot of information flying around—some good, some bad, some questionable, and a lot of it contradictory. The mood in the intelligence community no doubt shifted from getting “actionable information” to finding information that confirms a worst case scenario. I blame him less for going into Iraq then for not holding his people responsible for the ensuing fiasco. According to Bob Woodward, when George Tennet laid out the case for WMD’s in the Oval Office prior to the invasion, the President had the wherewithal to question him critically only to receive the famous, “don’t worry, it’s a slam dunk” response. Mr. Bush should have fired Tennet for failing to produce that “slam dunk”. Instead he gave him a medal. Rummy should have been tossed unceremoniously long before he was allowed to “resign” for gross incompetence (and arrogance). There are a lot of other “advisors” who failed the president who should have gone as well, including Paul Bremmer.

I doubt that Sadam had any WMD’s of consequence when we invaded. The sarin rounds we found later are better classified as “hazardous waste” than as deployable weapons. But, being fair to all parties, Sadam was playing a dangerous game. On the one hand he risked sanctions and military action by possessing WMD’s, on the other he felt that if his enemies (including Iran) believed that he had them, he could bluff them and stay in power. He therefore allowed the world (and his enemies) to believe that he was more dangerous than he was. Ironically what he thought would protect him resulted in his downfall.

I’m very sure he (Bush) would love to have a “do over” on the run up and the two years after cessation of military action (army on army,”Mission Accomplished”) not our Army v. Insurgency. But I’m sure many Commanders in Chief and statesmen the world over and through the ages wish they had taken a different turn here or there. Without a doubt the surge has been a resounding success and a premature withdrawal could be catastrophic. 4000 plus casualties and thousands of wounded later the cost has been high, I salute each and every one of them. I try not to compare different situations but sometimes I think about British loses at the Somme,40,000 DEAD plus in ONE DAY? Iwo Jima, 6000+ fine Marines in 1 week? But it’s done, it’s history now and I think we have learned from the past. We must now look ahead and decide if, in my opinion, stabilizing that CRITICAL region of the world was worth it. We can see now what even the threat of trouble in that region does to oil prices. Trouble in the Mideast has impacted our gas prices in the past (70’s). I fully admit (unlike some conservatives) that oil is at the heart of why we are there and why we deposed Saddam. He was good for starting an all out war about once per decade and that was not acceptable to world economic stability. He was an equal opprotunity offender attacking Israel and Saudi Arabia at the same time! He was also a mass murderer so getting rid of him served a few good purposes. Al Queda is a pig of a different color. We are in for a long hard fight that will last beyond my lifetime (i’m 48). We can’t choose not to fight, they are amongst us and will claim more innocent American lives. Obviously they have no permanent address or forwarding address where we can go stomp their guts out and end this thing. It’s very hard to declare war on a non-country in my opinion. Good intel is going to be the key and you are correct, that has not been the case and wasn’t the case as it turned out in 2002 and 2003. Civil libertarians are gonna scream like stuck pigs but look at Obama, even he reversed himself and supports the new FISA bill.

Jamesb, I wish to disagree with you on how much better the Soviet forces performed over the Germans. They greatly outnumbered the NAZI’s but still lost 10 men to 1 against the Germans while the Germans performed the most effective retograde action in history, suffering historic loses while being led by a mad man, Adolph Hitler! The Germans even inflicted slightly more casualties against us on the Western front even though we owned the skies and had massive indirect fire support. The Nazis retreated less distance and benefited from fortified fire positions, so the odds were in the German’s favor in the West.

Also, the Iranians are not head choppers like our friends the Saudis. For some reason unknown to me they like to hang people with an industrial crane, lifting them a few feet above the ground in front of their families and then they whip their family members when they try to hold up their loved ones while they slowly strangle to death. A popular sport is to bet on how long the condeemed kick untill they die. Now out in the country they still enjoy a good stoning for those women and little girls who are unfortunate enough to be raped (adulteres) as acording to Sharia law. Why the hanging I don’t know. Nothing in the Nobel Quran states that Adulters showed be hanged. It’s quite explicite that the women should be buried up to her elbows and hit with stones no larger than your fist but greater than your thumb!

Regarding World War II, it has always been my belief that the Germans had the finest army in the world at the time. They lost because the Russians had more men than they could kill and we produced more equipment than they could destroy. They were simply overwhelmed.

We have much to be thankful for on the Fourth of July. We know that God has blessed this country with a Christian heritage that has yielded many blessings. But, unless we pass our great gift on to our children and grandchildren, all they have to believe is what they read in their textbooks and see on the Internet and television. Did you know that 52 of the 55 signers of The Declaration of Independence were orthodox, deeply committed Christians? The other three all believed in the Bible as the divine truth, the God of scripture, and His personal intervention.

It is the same congress that formed the American Bible Society. Immediately after creating the Declaration of Independence, the Continental Congress voted to purchase and import 20,000 copies of scripture for the people of this nation.

Patrick Henry, who is called the firebrand of the American Revolution, is still remembered for his words, ‘Give me liberty or give me death.’ But in current textbooks the context of these words is deleted. Here is what he said: ‘An appeal to arms and the God of hosts is all that is left us. But we shall not fight our battle alone. There is a just God that presides over the destinies of nations. The battle sir, is not of the strong alone. Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it almighty God. I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death.’

These sentences have been erased from our textbooks.

Was Patrick Henry a Christian? The following year, 1776, he wrote this ‘It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason alone, people of other faiths have been afforded freedom of worship here.’

Consider these words that Thomas Jefferson wrote on the front of his well- worn Bible: ‘I am a Christian, that is to say a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus. I have little doubt that our whole country will soon be rallied to the unity of our Creator and, I hope, to the pure doctrine of Jesus also.’

Consider these words from George Washington, the Father of our Nation, in his farewell speech on September 19, 1796:

‘It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible. Of all the dispositions and habits that lead to political prosperity, our religion and morality are the indispensable supporters. Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that our national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.’

Was George Washington a Christian? Consider these words from his personal prayer book: ‘Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the lamb and purge my heart by the Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of thy son, Jesus Christ, that living in thy fear, and dying in thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of thy son, Jesus Christ.’

Consider these words by John Adams, our second president, who also served as chairman of the American Bible Society.

In an address to military leaders he said, ‘We have no government armed with the power capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and true religion. Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.’

How about our first Court Justice, John Jay?

He stated that when we select our national leaders, if we are to preserve our Nation, we must select Christians. ‘ Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian Nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.’

John Quincy Adams, son of John Adams, was the sixth U.S. President.

He was also the chairman of the American Bible Society, which he considered his highest and most important role. On July 4, 1821, President Adams said, ‘The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.’

Calvin Coolidge, our 30th President of the United States reaffirmed this truth when he wrote, ‘The foundations of our society and our government rest so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teachings would cease to be practically universal in our country.’

In 1782, the United States Congress voted this resolution: ‘The congress of the United States recommends and approves the Holy Bible for use in all schools.’

William Holmes McGuffey is the author of the McGuffey Reader, which was used for over 100 years in our public schools with over 125 million copies sold until it was stopped in 1963. President Lincoln called him the ‘Schoolmaster of the Nation.’

Listen to these words of Mr. McGuffey: ‘The Christian religion is the religion of our country. From it are derived our notions on character of God, on the great moral Governor of the universe. On its doctrines are founded the peculiarities of our free institutions. From no source has the author drawn more conspicuously than from the sacred Scriptures. From all these extracts from the Bible I make no apology.’

Of the first 108 universities founded in America , 106 were distinctly Christian, including the first.

Harvard University, chartered in 1636. In the original Harvard Student Handbook rule number 1 was that students seeking entrance must know Latin and Greek so that they could study the scriptures:

‘Let every student be plainly instructed and earnestly pressed to consider well, the main end of his life and studies is, to know God and Jesus Christ, which is eternal life, John 17:3; and therefore to lay Jesus Christ as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and learning. And seeing the Lord only giveth wisdom, let everyone seriously set himself by prayer in secret to seek it of him (Proverbs 2:3).’

For over 100 years, more than 50% of all Harvard graduates were pastors!

It is clear from history that the Bible and the Christian faith, were foundational in our educational and judicial system. However in 1947, there was a radical change of direction in the Supreme Court.

Here is the prayer that was banished:

‘Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence on Thee. We beg Thy blessings upon us and our parents and our teachers and our country.

Amen.’

In 1963, the Supreme Court ruled that Bible reading was outlawed as unconstitutional in the public school system. The court offered this justification: ‘If portions of the New Testament were read without explanation, they could and have been psychologically harmful to children.’

Bible reading was now unconstitutional , though the Bible was quoted 94 percent of the time by those who wrote our constitution and shaped our Nation and its system of education and justice and government.

In 1965, the Courts denied as unconstitutional the rights of a student in the public school cafeteria to bow his head and pray audibly for his food.

In 1980, Stone vs. Graham outlawed the Ten Commandments in our public schools.

The Supreme Court said this: ‘If the posted copies of the Ten Commandments were to have any effect at all, it would be to induce school children to read them. And if they read them, meditated upon them, and perhaps venerated and observed them, this is not a permissible objective.’

Is it not a permissible objective to allow our children to follow the moral principles of the Ten Commandments?

James Madison, the primary author of the Constitution of the United States , said this: ‘We have staked the whole future of our new nation, not upon the power of government; far from it. We have staked the future of all our political constitutions upon the capacity of each of ourselves to govern ourselves according to the moral principles of the Ten Commandments.’

Today we are asking God to bless America . But how can He bless a Nation that has departed so far from Him?

And at the end, he picks a conservative and calls them “the worst person in the world” for simply not having the same opinion as Olbmerman himself. Of course, if this fails Keith will just wrench something out of context from something a conservative has said or wrote and then beraid the person for being a bigot or something along those lines.

When you look at what really took place in this video, we should all be saddened.

I’m amused to see how the destruction of our economy under Bush is awkwardly – and unconvincingly – being blamed by the right on the Democratic Congress. I notice there are never logical reasons given, although I’m sure a few you of you will try to come up with something to entertain us all very soon now.

Let me not mince words: we are truly screwed economically , and it is definitely Bush’s fault. Allow me to explain why, please, using only logic.

The ten dollars in your wallet in 2001 bought ten dollars worth of goods. Today, that same ten dollars is only worth 5.90 of what it what was worth in 2001. Now if anyone doesn’t understand that, let me simplify it with a touch of dramatic effect. Let’s say one day in 2001 your best friend shows up on your door step to borrow ten dollars from you because he left his wallet at home – but he promises to pay you back that same evening. You reluctantly agree. Your friend honors his promise – and shows up several hours later – but in his hand he holds a five dollar bill and some change. Five dollars and ninety cents to be exact. Isn’t this just the type of thing that could fracture a friendship? Well I can imagine it would – unless one had a memory problem. Now realize that it hasn’t happened in one day – but, rather – over a 7.5 year period.

So the point is this: The average gas price now – as of yesterday is 4.10 cents – but if the dollar had remained at the same value it was when Bush first got in – you would only be paying 2.42 cents a gallon. This isn’t cheap – but it’s a heck of a lot better. Than 4.10, right? Now also keep in mind that apparently just the fact that Bush mentioned attacking Iran the other day was enough to make the oil markets nervous and the price of oil went up immediately eleven dollars a barrel, directly because every time he does this – or this type of thing – he destabilizes the market. Good for oil companies, not so great for the rest of us. So how many times has Bush pushed the price of oil up by creating fear? May, many times. But for the sake of argument, let’s just conservatively say 30 dollars has been added to the price of oil because of this market-fear premium. It would be much easier to prove more – if I wanted to spend the day on this – but I’ve got a weekend to enjoy. So thirty bucks is another twenty something percent a barrel that has been added – in addition to our loss of 41 percent of our money – to the price of gas.
So we would be paying maybe 2.00 a gallon if the dollar hadn’t become devalued and we destabilized the world’s oil market. Now that is still a far cry from the 1.50 we were paying when Bill Clinton left office, but still not bad.

Now we do not have the money to pay for these wars -we’re basically having to borrow all of that money for it from China. Without funding the wars, clearly we would not be going in the hole every day to any serious degree at all. We might have to borrow one percent or three percent of the amount we are – but clearly no more. Now
the fact that we can’t pay back any of the money that we owe to the Chinese and need more and more of their money all the time means – they have the feeling they are never going to get their money back. Sure we can just print them some more money, like we’ve done under Bush – but the more money that’s out there for no reason other than the fact we printed it means – what’s already out their in currency already is just losing value more and more. Our currency has lost 41 pecent of it’s value under Bush simply becsaue we couldn’t stop borrowing enough money to fund these wars. Sure there will a few efforts to prop the dollar up – but it’s all just like swimming against the ocean

Also if you want to get an idea of when gas prices really started to go up on a chart, forget 9/11. Things were fairly stable after that. Here’s a clue. The prices started to skyrocket somewhere around the time we started buildup up and prepare for attacking Iraq.

So go ahead and go into ANWR and drill for more oil off of Florida. Oh don’t kid yourself. It will not help us combat the price of oil – but it will be a nice feel-good story for people to point to as proof that “something is being done.”
Oil companies went out of their way to close 24 oil refineries in the last few years – it was admitted in a congressional subcommitee by oil executives that they wanted to keep the supply low to keep the prices and profits high.

This country is obviously finished now as the unchallenged super power. But if we can just keep the “gee-whiz, everything’s-great narrative” alive a little bit longer – then perhaps the end may not be quite as daunting to face as we once thought.

These loud-mouths are typical and unoriginal; they are just plain boring. Many of the posts supporting these misguided souls are also equally uninspired, mundane, and tedious at best.

They perceive themselves as intellectual elitists. Often they are weak physically or emotionally, therefore, they compensate by attempting to pierce an opponent with sharp intellect. Reread many of the preceding posts. Many of them rely on this tactic.

If you drill for oil, your chances of retrieving that oil increase if the area you are drilling is known to have oil. Lesson: We have to drill for oil where it is, not where we want it to be.

If we drill and bring forth the oil from large oil fields, there will be more oil on the market. The fields off the coast of Florida and in Anwar are enormous and could account for more than 15% of our domestic oil use. That is huge. We could stop importing oil from Venezuala at those levels. We could cut back from 25% to 10% of middle eastern oil. Price would drop. No one else out there can buy the quantity of oil we buy.

I’ve applied for my handgun permit and concealed weapons permit because these same freaks that protest Bush also believe I have no right to own a Gun. These protesters are complete morons. They also believe that Christians are a bigger threat to this countries national security than Muslim extremists. The loony left will never change. These so-called “protesters” are nothing more than self-centered narcissistic hippie holdovers hoping to relive their 1960’s days of rage and get a little more attention before they are confined to wheelchairs and walkers. And even more, what about respect for fellow Americans? Those American who earned the right to become citizens were there for a very special and respectful event. I attended the ceremony. There were over three thousand people there and five or six hecklers. Do the math. The hecklers were lucky that security was there to protect and remove them because the crowd would not have been so gentle.
The ceremony was a beautiful celebration of America on July 4th. The speech was inspiring and smooth…President Bush is well respected among the people because he’s a good man. This was a ceremony for immigrants to be welcomed into our nation as citizens and to enjoy the liberty and freedom we usually take for granted. We should take a moment to be grateful and respect our country. That ten dollar bill in your wallet is now only worth $5.90 of the full ten dollars worth it bought you in 2001. Gas is 4.10, because our money is devalued. Subtract the devaluation of our currency by 41 percent of its value in 2001. That leaves you with 59 percent of what our money was worth the day Bush took office. 100 divided by 59 = $1.694915

Ok 1.694915 X 2.42 = roughly $4.10
That’s the average gas price in the U.S. as of yesterday.

This doesn’t even take into account how much oil has gone up every time there is talk of attacking Iran – or when something else goes wrong in Iraq.

So basically we’ve helped destabilized oil markets
for everyone who buys their oil from the middle east. That’s why we are not the only ones struggling with gas prices. The difference for a lot of the rest of the world is that there gas was already high to begin with generally – so they have to raise their prices, too. So you figure that gas would now be 2.42 in the U.S. today – also I haven’t even taken into account how much oil has gone up each time Bush mentions attacking Iran or when another 50 or 60 people get blown up in Iraq. That could account for 20 percent of the price of a barrel of oil right there easily – at the very least. So we would be paying without these wars somewhere in the region of around $2 a gallon. Maybe even $1.90 a gallon, which isn’t really that crazy considering the fact that gas was on average $1.50 when Clinton left office in 2001. It wasn’t 9/11 that pushed gas prices up – if you look at the charts – the prices went up right around the time the U.S. started talking about yellow cake and aluminum tubes and the need to attack Iraq.

It never fails to amaze me at how ignorant most of our electorate is. This economy grew constistantly for the first 6 years of the Bush Presidency. Most people have no idea how our governemnt works. The Congress has a far greater impact on economic concerns than the President yet most people blame every problem on him. Is there some lever in the white house that the President pulls affecting the economy? However, all I keep hearing is how many more Democrats are going to be elected in November. Don’t you realize what you’re doing? You’re basically making it in the Democrats best interest to screw up the economy as much as possible! Why do you think there so against expanding drilling? They want to see prices go up because they know the retarded electorate will blame Bush for it! If Obama wins I gurantee he’ll change his position about drilling. Last week saw a bucking bronco ride in the stock market. The American people read headlines such as: Fed vows, then pumps massive funds to calm markets and Fed’s $38 billion helps markets. I have written many columns the past several years as have hundreds of others warning of the coming financial tsunami. Far too many people scoffed at all the warnings, continued to rack upmassive debt and pusued the American dream of owning their own home when their financial portfolio and credit history simly could not float the big boat they were taking out into the ocean. The first of the dominos began to teeter earlier in the week: Aug.6 (Bloomberg)– “American Home Mortgage Investment Corp. became the second biggest residential lender to file for bankruptcy protection this year, adding to signs that late payments have spread to honmeowners with good credit records.” Dr. edwinVieira is arguably the foremost authority in this country on the central bank and the history of our monetary syste. His monumental tomes, Crash Maker (ficiton) and Pieces of Eight (nonficiton) are the quintessential teaching tools towards understanding this comlex issueand making it understandable for average Americans like me. I bring this up because over the weekend I had a long telephone discussion with Edwin aobut the market last week. We both agree that the clock is ticking and all the bombastic gas let loose by financial guru’s like FAUX’S (FOX) Neil Cavuto, is just that because all the kings horses and all the kings men will not be able to fix this one. Not for a long time.

These are loans made to people who have less than ideal credit- all being done during a housing market that began it’s slump alomst two years ago. On August 9, 2007 the privately owned Federal Reserve pumped “24 billion in temporary reserves to the banking system amid an increase in demand for cash from banks roiled by U.S> subprime loan losses.” The next day, the FED infused the dying patient on the operating table three different injections: $38 billion. Some say this won’t be nearly enough to stop the hemorrhaging. The latest “rescue” by the central bank is going to be short lived and many experts not on the govenment’s payroll predict the FED will have to reverse it’s decision last week to leave interest rates alone and instead, announce an emergency drop in rates. The wise folks over at urbansuvival said it best las Friday: “When up to a third of a trillion dollrs being dumped into financial markets’ in 36-hours doesn’t stem the tide, even the financially ignorant can sense something has changed. That’s pouring
money into the financial system at a rate equivalent to all of Canada’s GDP every four days. And what did we get? A 31-point Dow loss anwayway!” The government announced on August
10, 2007, that Freddie mac and Fannie mae will not be allowed to acquire any more mortgage debt.
Banks and lending institutions have for too long been making bad loans and desite the gigantic
warning sign, greed carried them through the years, but now foreclosures packages are spitting out more paper than the Pentagon. Let me give you an example. Go to: foreclosureDotcom
On the left side, just pick California and Los Angeles county. Look at just this one list of houses in foreclosure. there are other sites I’ve browsed with page after page after page of houses in foreclosure just in the LA area alone; they range from $250,000-$1.8 million. foreclosures were already hitting record numbers by June 2007.

has to keep propping itself up in an attempt to fend off hyper inflation like what hit Argentina
where people once able to prosper were eating out of garbage cans. Unfortunately, and sadly, most Americans simply have little or no understanding of the subject matter, but to not understand what’s happening will be deadly for millions. How will this affect the average American out there already dying under the weight of credit cards debt insufficient household income (despite two working people, sometimes with three paychecks) and taxes in all forms taking disposable income? 1. The middle class has been destroyed by unconstitutional trade agreements; our most productive and important job sectors decimated- agriculture, manufacturing, industrial. Wages have not kept up with the cost of goods and services; the illegals invsion sucking the lifeblood out of this country by stealing jobs (like meat packing at good wages) and sending BILLIONS “home.” Pile on the continued sacking of the people’s purse by thieves in one Congress after another and a five year undeclared war being funded through borrowing slapped on their backs, has left the American family broke. Seniors living on social security and investments will see those dwindle and will have to keep tappingwhatever savings they might have accumulated over their lifetimes.
One “rainy day” will drown them.
2. Growing numbers of Americans refuse to buy Made in Communist China; I am one who has bee doing it since 1994 when NAFTA was unconstitutionally signed into law. I don’t even own a toaster. I go without when I can’t find what I need but I can generally find what I want by taking the time. If you can’t find it there,do
a search and you will get results. This does not help our economy or retailers, but I’m sorry. I will not give my money to an enmey of my country
just for “things.” And, remember this: there’s a good chance the fur in your sweater, parka and even doll clothes comes from dogs skinned alive in Communist China..

Were The American Indians Really Environmentalits?

In 1991 the Smithsonian Institution published a popular book called Seeds of Change: A Quincentennial Commemoration, which informed readers that “pre-Columbian America was still the first Eden, a pristine natural kingdom. The only thing that delaying our departure from Vietnam accomplished was more casualties on all sides. The only thing delaying our departure from Iraq will accomplish is more casualties on all sides.
Why should it be a stain on our honor wo end the occupation of Iraq and hand the country back to the Iraqi people to govern as they please?
It is, after all, their country, not ours; the oil is their oil not ours. Not one Candidate has the guts to say “As soon as I am president I will order Americans troops to withdrawal” What happens after we leave is an Iraqi problem not ours.

That allowed Europe and Japan to modernize their factories while ours deteriorated. We are no longer the arsenal of democracy. In fact, most of our strategic weapons require imports.
If we continue to over plant grains and irrigate normlly dry land we will soon be dependent on imports for food. It’s all well and good that foreign car companies built plants here to take advantage or our relatively cheap labor (compared with their own countries) but one should not forget that the profits from those countries flow back accross the seas.
For a republic to survive it needs a well educated people with self discipline and high morals, healthy agriculture and manufacturing bases, sound money and a frugal but wise government.
I don’t see much of that around these days.
