Protesters Gather to Express Outrage Over Desecration of Bible in British Gallery

AP: Artist Jane Clarke, a minister at the Metropolitan Community Church, asked visitors to annotate the Bible with stories and reflections, as a way of making it more inclusive. But visitors to the gallery took the invitation a bit further than she had anticipated. "This is all sexist pish, so disregard it all," wrote one person, while another described the Bible as "the biggest lie in human history" and a third wrote: "Mick Jagger and David Bowie belong in here."

The country that gave us John Wycliffe and John Knox allows desecration of the Holy Bible? Dear God, help us all.

Jenna   July 28th, 2009 - 5:05 pm

The gallery allowed people to “annotate the Bible with stories and reflections, as a way of making it more inclusive” and they’re surprised that some peoples’ reflections were negative? I’m sorry; this screams “publicity stunt” to me.

For the love of Pete, it’s a book, not a deity itself, and it’s a far cry from throwing Christians to lions or burning people at the stake. Relax, everyone.

Mike   July 28th, 2009 - 5:52 pm

Who cares? It’s a book. Get another one if you’re so offended.

Justin   July 28th, 2009 - 9:06 pm

Odd, I thought Jesus taught us not to judge. Who are these people to judge the comments left in the book?

James   July 28th, 2009 - 9:26 pm

People desecrate what they do not understand. True faith is not in the mind but in the heart. Not a feeling but a conviction of truth. Unfortunately, The people in protest of the desecration don’t look like the kind to welcome the sick, poor and needy into their homes. The God of the Bible is both a jealous God and a loving God. Hard to reconcile the two until you take the two in context. God is jealous of his holiness and loving in that sinners do not get there just recompense that believe in his plan. The Holy Spirit living in each of those whom he has called brings life. Good news, he has called everyone. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by The Word of God. You all know from birth right and wrong, your heart will always lie to you unless it is telling you that your life is full of sin. The cure is the blood spilled at the cross. The promise is the resurrection. The prize is eternal life with God never to be seperated again. The alternative is eternal life in darkness and torment. Simple choice to make but a difficult path to trod. Read your Bible and let it speak to you. Don’t take my word for it or some schmuck who preaches on the corner that the end is near! The end is as near as your last breath so get reading.

Jennifer   July 28th, 2009 - 11:24 pm

All these people need to go to hell. You believe in a hell, you deserve to be in it. You are all praising and worshiping a false god no matter how you put it. WHERE IS THE PROOF OF YOUR GOD???????????? Not only that, but for CHRIST sake, religious fanatics WILL NOT let someone voice their opinion. No matter how you put it. You have your freedom of speech to shove your religion down our throats, but when I try and disprove the fact that YOUR GOD is based off of word of mouth, and no evidence other than a nicely written story, you get pissed and refuse to listen to my opinion. The difference between you and me? I have self-reliance. Religious nuts have to rely on a false god to get them through their lives.

Jennifer   July 28th, 2009 - 11:29 pm

By the way, Religion is the cyanide of the masses.

Oh and did you know? The Treaty of Tripoli signed on May 26, 1797, Article 11, states “As the Government of the United States of America IS NOT, an any sense, founded on the Christian religion.”

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, to everyone who believes America is a Christian nation.

James   July 28th, 2009 - 11:34 pm

Jesus didn’t say not to judge, but to judge righteously.Don’t try to quote from the bible.

Melody   July 29th, 2009 - 12:07 am

I admire the British for standing up for what is right, but I have to admit, I was amused at how politely they showed their outrage, quite, orderly… I love the Britsh!

GIVEN THE CHANCE WHAT DID MAN DO TO JESUS CHRIST?   July 29th, 2009 - 12:54 am

WHAT DO YOU THINK MAN WILL DO TO YOU AND I IF GIVEN THE CHANCE?

Dear Jennifer:

and remember Psalm 14: 1
The fool says in his heart,
“There is no God.”

john   July 29th, 2009 - 1:47 pm

Why is it that everyone agrees that cars operate Logically, but when it comes to issues of the heart the wackiest ideas seem to be held as fact.

Noonan   July 29th, 2009 - 4:11 pm

Good to see the Tea Party spirit alive and well in bonny ole England. The world working together…

Airwick   July 30th, 2009 - 10:20 am

This is great! I can see it now…the new, revised version of the Bible with an addition including the Gospel of Bowie.

Bowie (2:12)

“Someday they wont let you, now you must agree
The times they are a-telling, and the changing isnt free
Youve read it in the tea leaves, and the tracks are on tv
Beware the savage jaw
Of 1984”

Amen!

Jennifers new friend   July 30th, 2009 - 12:21 pm

Dear Jennifer,

Carl   July 30th, 2009 - 12:27 pm

Dear Jennifer,
I like how that guy started his bull**** rant. You are so correct about all you say! and here’s another thought. Let me get this straight. An artist places a bible in a gallery and asks visitors to write their comments (annotate) in the bible but when they do and it does not appeal to them, suddenly it’s vandalism? It’s disrespectful? Why they open this can of worms to people who can think for them selves baffles me. The bible is out dated fairytales of an age when men ruled the planet and women are subservient to these bigots. There is no god or gods and there has never been proof of their existence. Only fear mongering by hypocrites will keep all bogus religions alive and breathing for many more years. Secular humanism will eventually prevail when humans can learn to let go of their primitive superstitions. Not many know about the Treaty of Tripoly it’s good to see that. Realigion is losing ground and credibility and I’m loving it!

saberzedge   July 31st, 2009 - 10:12 am

All of you simpletons who think it is just hunky-dory to desecrate the Bible and who have the freedom to be atheists, god haters and haters of Christians that our democratic west provides need to sing praises to allah that you don’t live in the islamic world where the desecration of the koran and denial of allah would be a death penalty by beheading, stoning, hanging or burning.

BTW Jennifer, did you notice how those people who were demonstration were doing so in a civilized manner and not rioting and burning down their city just because their religious sensibilities were offended. Oh, how the west has progressed way past islam in the past 1500 years to allow the likes Jennifer to express her enlightened opinion w/o physical retaliation.

kmichaels   July 31st, 2009 - 3:32 pm

Funny, liberals only seem to mind if “just a book” is a koran. No big deal if it is Christian. Bottom line, liberals are pos troublemakers to their pos cores.

Littledanny   August 1st, 2009 - 1:14 pm

To Carl and Jennifer. What evidence will you accept as proof for God’s existence?

conservativeandproud   August 1st, 2009 - 8:09 pm

Courageous souls standing up for Christianity in a country that has lost its way…. Your brothers and sisters in the US stand with you!

Semper Fi   August 2nd, 2009 - 2:17 am

It takes faith to believe in a Creator God but it takes considerably MORE faith to be an atheist. All the order around us from random chance….horsefeathers and poppycock….Western ideas like freedom of speech/press/religion “evolved” from Judeo-Christian roots. These concepts don’t exist in Muslim nations or in atheist nations like Russia, North Korea or China.BTW, look at the hate-filled responses from the “tolerant” and “inclusive” atheists above…Quite telling, really.

doug   August 2nd, 2009 - 8:05 am

Listen up people. Its dinner time, right?, what don’t we discuss without a ‘prayer’(I had to pun this one) of getting anywhere? you guessed it, RELIGION. Having said that I can assure all that Secular Humanists like myself and Believers of the faith will growl about and deride each others percieved moral failures until the very end of our subscriptions to life on this thoroughly screwed up planet. The battle lines here are clear. it is a question of living life through self reliance while attributing events of the world and of our lives to tangible means and ways or through the perspective of a supreme Diety who oversees our mortal exitence. You make the choice. I will tell you this though, as a previous contributor wrote, this very discussion, if carried out in certain other countries would assuredly result in the arrest or worse of the ‘offending’ parties.

Robert R. Larimer Jr   August 3rd, 2009 - 11:50 am

The Religious Left does not even understand its own indoctrination.
They chant the mantras of Diversity, Choice, Tolerance, World Community, Redistribution, Consenting Adults, Cultural Pluralism…..with no understanding that they are advancing a religion:
http://www.jcn.com/manifestos.html
One of the activities of religious fanatics is desecrating objects of faith of other religions.
You hadn’t heard of the Religious Left? Only the Religious Right?
That is because LeftMedia are true-believers as well.
Next time you hear someone bashing Christianity, let them know that they are a faithful religious follower too.
At least Christians tell you who we are, what we stand for, and the Source of our faith.
Humanist-indoctrinated lefties are clueless regarding the source of their mantras and beliefs.
Truly, they are blind, hateful religious fanatics.
The Bible will stand, whatever they do.

hesko   August 6th, 2009 - 12:28 pm

they should have a display of pics of their silly queen
and write nasty stuff on them, see it they could get
away with it. I think not. By the way isn’t she supposed
to be “defender of the faith”? where’s your sword betty?

Glenn…you need to start talking about Obama’s National Day of Service that’s coming up on 9/11/09. Let the townhall meeting folks know!

The Usurper has usurped one of the most important days in this country’s history and turned it into a liberal fun, frolic & play day.

HR 1388, “The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, an Act to reauthorize and reform the national service laws.”
