Prominent Christian Leader Is Disinvited From Military Prayer Luncheon Over Gays in Service Issue

"As one who took the oath to defend and protect our freedoms, I am disappointed that I've been denied the opportunity to speak to members of the military, in a non-political way, solely because I exercised my free speech rights in a different forum."

America…because a man of faith…expresses his spiritual views of a policy of our military does not mean he should now be isolated because of his views…that is against the Constitution and it is pure discrimination based on religion!

Every Christian needs to speak up and speak out…!

it is pure discrimination based on religion

No Eileen, this is discrimination based on religion…

God says of His people, “persecuted, we SUFFER it” 1Corinthians 4:12

America says of its people, “persecuted, we kill it” 1776 – 2010 < – - THIS CONTRADICTS THE ABOVE VERSE

America has always contradicted God Almighty and His Christ

Eileen, you should be so discriminating!

Oh, am I being divisive?

Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division Luke 12:51

Jason H   February 25th, 2010 - 3:29 pm

Okay, so I don’t comport to believe what most of my elected officials nor our Commander in Chief believe, does this mean that the civilianized military commanders at Andrews will choose not to defend me. They’re only defending the rights of those who fall in line with the elected officials, specifically, the president? Time to make my membership with the Oath Keepers final. The writing’s on the wall. Oathkeepers.org

Eileen for Freedom/Liberty   February 25th, 2010 - 3:44 pm

Dear Americanianity is your religion Eileen at 3:23 pm…you can judge me with any ruler you want to judge by because you seem to be holier than I and are the better judge of all things righteous.

Perhaps the wording should have been ‘it is pure discrimination based on one’s religion and their belief’.

Does that make it any clearer for you?

Enough said!

Where did all that liberalism and tolerance go?
If queers can mock Jesus, why can’t straights mock queers?
Besides, anyone who defines themselves completely and totally by the peculiar way they use their genitalia, is no person at all.
Can anyone imagine Einstein ever pointing to his “Straight Pride?” Can anyone imagine BJ Clinton saying he’s Sad?
What people do in their closets is no concern of any of us, but when they choose to proselytize their peculiar lifestyle and mock the straight Christian lifestyle, then it become a nuisance. If they can’t get along with straights, then they should be sent to school to teach them tolerance.

myleftbrain   February 25th, 2010 - 4:32 pm

Libs idea of tolerance: We’ll tolerate you as long as you agree with us.

Wait a minute………..FREEDOM OF SPEECH…………when did they put that one in???
Perhaps the biggest fraud being perpetrated on the Americants is this very thing. REMEMBER, “You have the right to remain silent.” So remain silent!!!

NewOrleansAnn   February 25th, 2010 - 4:42 pm

You can have freedom of speech, just leave the military if you are homosexual and cannot keep it to yourself. Why should we change the rules for homosexuals? The reason men and women are separated in the military is to remove the sexual tensions. The Military has known all along they need to keep the soldier’s attention on the mission. My Father took saltpeter during WWII. He needed to stay focused. If he had someone around arousing him, in his case a woman, he could have killed himself, and even more importantly, killed men in his unit.

wimperwimper   February 25th, 2010 - 4:47 pm

THIS SHOULD NOT SURPRISE US – AND THIS IS JUST SOME OF THE POINT I WAS MAKING ABOUT CPAC – INVITING GOPAC AND GIVING THEM MORE STAGING. This is just totally outraged but this is what is happening and at the IRON HAND OF THE BIG MORON IN THE OVAL OFFICE. BETTER WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!

The thing I find most disturbing about this whole mess is the way that our military is responding to what the President “thinks” we should do. In this case what the President thinks is against the law, and yet the military is acting on Obama’s wishes as though he directly makes the laws of this country. Our military is sworn to defend the Constitution, NOT the President! Our Dear Leader, I mean our President, is subject to the laws of this land just like the rest of us. The military should treat President Obama’s opinions on the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy as such until the law is changed, and should not ignore or go around it just because Obama says so.

There. That’s one person’s opinion.

“God says of His people, “persecuted, we SUFFER it” 1Corinthians 4:12

America says of its people, “persecuted, we kill it” 1776 – 2010 < – – THIS CONTRADICTS THE ABOVE VERSE"

There is a difference between what God expects of private citizens and what he expects of governments. The government is given the sword of justice (Romans 13), and the private citizen is to turn the other cheek when insulted, and defend himself and family when attacked by another private citizen ("from now on take a sword"). In 1776 a new government was formed and it was in the name of a new nation that that government sought to defend its people. It was the just and righteous thing to do and does not contradict a single verse in the Bible, for the Bible was used (rightfully) for its justification. A text without a context is a pretext for a prooftext, and your handling of the Scriptures and American history demonstrates that a tad more humility is what the Church most needs these days.

My Left Brain:

Your last comment is exactly what happened today with Obama’s Health Care summit. (From Fox News website:)
Obama suggested that if GOP lawmakers don’t support bipartisan agreement, he and Dems will move forward without them.

The liberal regressive Democrats need to use the word bi-partisan as often as possible, even if it is clearly just the opposite.

In common sense terms… it is not a bi-partisan bill if the Republican politicians listen to their constituents and don’t support the bill.

Eddie Gin   February 25th, 2010 - 9:07 pm

I find it MORE interesting that Mr. Perkins received a letter on Jan 29, but chose to wait until the day BEFORE the National Prayer Breakfast to “leak” this to the media…in a mass batch e-mail no less. Was his outrage so great that he waited almost a MONTH before sending this out, or did he purposefully time it to generate the most media (nee PUBLICITY) for himself and his private, non-profit? The TRUE outrage should be that he is using this one incident and an Air Force CHAPLAIN of all things, to sell himself, his political views and his agenda.

Buffy Marie   February 25th, 2010 - 10:19 pm

How can someone with his views even pray?

Snailmailtrucker   February 25th, 2010 - 10:46 pm

Hey Buffy Marie:

Probably because he believes his God does not accept people who desecrate his temple. (Temple being… the bodies that he has given them.)
… and that is exactly what every homosexual and all of the other perverts out there are doing!

Mr. Perkins has his head on right…you on the other hand, don’t have a clue!

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I am heterosexual, politically independent of a Jacksonian frame of mind (Andrew, not Jesse). I am unaffiliated with any particular religion. But I acknowledge the Protestant Christianity of northwestern Europe as the source of our national culture, and without which, we would have few or perhaps none of the liberties we all take for granted today; and I want our country to remain a predominantly European-American society and culture.

About homosexuality. I am not concerned about what relationships practicing homosexuals maintain with one another in civilian life. But the presence of known homosexuals in military units always generates tension, the same as would happen if heterosexuals brought their wives or girl-friends to live with them in a military barracks. I was a soldier of the United States Army from 1952-1955, late in the Korean War and its immediate aftermath. Two of those years were on active duty, one in the enlisted reserve. My reflections on what works and what does not in terms of homosexuals in military service are based on those years on active duty, almost 60 years ago.

In theory we all have freedom to do whatsoever we want, certainly with our own bodies, frequently to our own detriment. But in practice, excesses of the exercise of these general freedoms create major difficulties in group relations, and especially in highly and purposefully organized institutional settings such as characterize any armed force.

The cognitive dissonance is very evident in the comments here. No one’s right to free speech is being abridged whatsoever. Read all the comments, look at the video of Perkins on CBN. Can anyone rationally argue that Mr. Perkins is being denied his First Amendment rights ? Or course not. Having exercised his rights of free speech, we ALL know his point of view already.

The idea of unfettered free speech in the public square cuts BOTH WAYS lest everyone forget that obvious fact. Just as religionists cannot DEMAND that they be given an audience at Andrews, those who are secular humanists cannot DEMAND that they be given equal time at an SBC revival. Military members who have an interest in what Mr. Perkins and his ilk have to say are perfectly free to leave base and seek out such a venue.

For those who are such pseudo-”advocates” of free speech, free association, and all the other rights enshrined in the First Amendment, can someone explain why there was such HUGE pushback from the religionist community over allowing a Wiccan pentacle on a servicemember’s gravestone at Arlington ? Or, the call for the removal of the Wiccan / Pagan worship circle at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs ?

Seems that Christian tolerance ONLY extends to adherents of that faith system and to no one else. The facts speak for themselves. Truth hurts, eh ?

Hey Tony Perkins – Now you know how gays feel when they are dis-invited to the military or told they cannot marry their partner.

It sucks —- right!!!

James Fletcher Baxter   February 27th, 2010 - 11:02 am

MIND Over glands

The defenders of homosexuality continue the oxymoron
contradiction of attempting to use the mind to justify the
rule of carnal glands.

Thinking Americans still don’t give ‘a tinkers-sham’ what
homosexuals do with their body-parts. An individual or
a society which is by law and tradition committed to the
natural human hierarchy of mind over body will not, how-
ever, ever sanction glandular rule over the human mind.

Undisciplined human desire can induce distorted perception.
The disturbed personality or inverted character can be
considered to be cognitively confused. This description is
confirmed by the work of English psychoanalyst Money-
Kyrle, who indicates that it is more accurate to recognize
such a condition as the result of distorted perception.

Neurosis, psychosis, stunting of growth, etc., are all, from
this perspective, cognitive diseases contaminating not only
perception but thinking, learning, remembering, valuing, and
decision- and choice-making.

Money-Kyrle affirms that scientific truth is not attained by a
trendy self-serving fashion, confession of inadequacy,
abdication, or collective majority-vote. There is no excuse for
professional ignorance willfully maintained.

By definition, a standard that is flexible is not a standard at all.
The human mind requires a standard of comparison that is
invariable. A criterion must be greater than the value measured
in order to supply value-meaning in a predictable direction of
survival and progression. The mind thus equipped is enabled
to maintain a natural dominion over the body and its appetites.
The very survival of the body itself, therefore, depends upon this
maintained intellectual authority. Romans 8:6

Our posterity cannot respect what it does not perceive, and it
cannot perceive that which has been abandoned or inverted to
an appetite of physical expediency by the equivocal person.

With confidence in the laws of human nature, we can know that
in the clash between carnality and intellect, the ‘man of the mind’
will always prevail.

That is nature and GOD’s way and intent all along.

“No one is smarter than their criteria.” selah jfb

Kudos to Jim Baxter for his dedicated service to our nation. I salute you, sir. What I do not accept is your argument in this matter. At the heart of the issue is not glands or a lack of discipline. It is the freedom to love whom we want. Love. Do not leave this out of the equation. This is a secular republic (read the Constitution) which ought to afford everyone an opportunity to pursue their own version of happiness within just laws.
