Obama admits that he does not know the facts in this case but obviously the police acted stupidly. This is proven under the assumption that a black professor cant possibly get overly angry and start yelling race after being belligerent and non-cooperative with the police. So obviously the police are at fault for doing their job and should have bowed down and kissed the angry black guy on his angry arse.

kat   July 22nd, 2009 - 11:31 pm

Well said, kmichaels!!!

Liberals Are Parasites   July 22nd, 2009 - 11:33 pm

We know exactly what happened. The cops came in and this BOY cops an attitude. I’m so sick of this “you’re messing with me because I’m black” crap. They arrested him because he got black with them.

Juanita   July 22nd, 2009 - 11:53 pm

Common sense would be to cooperate and thank the police for coming to check on the house. Who knows what would have happened if a real burglar was in the house with the professor and the cops didn’t show up. Like Obama, I don’t know all the facts yet, but maybe your friend the PROFESSOR acted stupidly, Obama, for example, arrogantly and abusively.

Cops should carry hidden cameras in case of situations like this.

Ahh, news flash…the White House isn’t your house, it’s the American People’s house. We’re just letting you stay there for 4 years (hopefully only 4 years).

Craig Allen   July 23rd, 2009 - 12:15 am

…isn’t your house, it’s the American People’s house. We’re just letting you stay there for 4 years (hopefully only 4 years).

He obtained the residence by fraudulent means, he should be evicted, tried and convicted of fraud.

Madoff got 150 years for 1.5 billion.

Obammy ought to get 99 years for 600 million.

freedom rocks   July 23rd, 2009 - 12:31 am

I made the same mistake when I was in college, got the same results and I am white, nobody asked Jimmy Carter about it. I was 19 at the time, what’s your excuse professor?

John Brown's body   July 23rd, 2009 - 12:42 am

What’s stupid is Obama never complains about the numerous rapes and murders blacks
commitin every city against white people daily. But he complains
about bad treatment a black buddy recieved. A friend who is intact and healthy tonight. Blacks always
elevate white racism to a higher crime than black violence.
Remember Mark Furman got prison for saying the N-word and OJ went free
for violence.

Larse   July 23rd, 2009 - 1:05 am

I agree too with kmichaels.

For once, Obama should have kept his mouth shut…

jt   July 23rd, 2009 - 1:16 am

I knew he would start pulling the race card. Watch it come down the pipe line everytime he looses. He feels that the blacks and hispanics are in his pocket,(which they are)mix in the dumb whites and so he will pull that card more and more as time goes on. And bingo, he gets the votes. The UNITER, NOT!

Papa Bear   July 23rd, 2009 - 1:27 am

The Prez essentially admitted that he did not have all the facts and was biased because Prof. Gates is his friend. Then he proceeds to pass judgment in the most negative light on the Police. Need we be reminded, Prof. Gates is in the Race business and obviously has a problme with authority. Having read serveral articles about the incident, I concluded the police were doing their job and did it well. The police had confirmed Prof. Gate’s identify and had left the house. Prof Gates then followed them out of the house and continued to be loud and yes …..disorderlly in public.

Meanwhile, Prof. Gates was quoted as being “outraged” by the arrest and has demanded an apology. He said he wants to use the experience to help make a documentary about racial profiling in the United States.

john   July 23rd, 2009 - 1:30 am

Yeah…I don’t know the whole story but the police acted stupidly….

Blacks have eight to one chance of being imprisoned for crimes…That’s not counting the negro’s that commit crimes and don’t go to jail.

I knew this man was not bright enough to lead this country…

You think he would come to the rescue of a white victim of black violence…

Don’t pretend emotional, and aggreessive and ignorant behaviors aren’t traits the blacks have come to own…

Like is there one black around who has been affected by slavery??? ONE?

I think blacks carry around a lot of other generations baggage…
This is great presidential behavior Barry…

I Guess you have some of the fire in your gutt that Reverand wright fed you after all.

You poor victim…

You won’t lead a country of diverse cultures with a racist attitude like yours BARRY.

Your poll numbers just fell through the floor moron.

I wonder if you really mean “The President is a …”

Anyway, I think Barack Obama is the one who “acted stupidly”…

And I, for one, will give the police officers involved the benefit of the doubt!

Remember people, Liberty goes hand-in-hand with Order, and I’m sure Gates is leveraging the incident the same way he teaches….divisively!

Bill   July 23rd, 2009 - 5:44 am

conservatives are the biggest pantywaists. What a bunch of pathetic whiners.

Norm   July 23rd, 2009 - 5:47 am

Well there he is folks, The President of the United States, calling the police stupid for their action on an incident he just two seconds before confessed knowing nothing about.

“I don’t know anything about this but the police are stupid.” Says the President of the United States, followed up by a lecture on how bigoted “whitey” is. The only thing missing from that stage was the Reverend Jerry Wright. “God dam America.”

Here’s the police report. The cop responded to what could have been a dangerous situation, a reported burglary with two felons still on the premises. A good cop doing his duty gets publicly berated by the President of the United States.

What a fecking mess. What a fecking MORON. In fact, TWO fecking HARVARD MORONS.

Niles Lesh   July 23rd, 2009 - 6:23 am

Obama kept using the phrase, “blacks & hispanics are being stopped disproportionately”. He then seemed to implied that the police should balance out the proportions.

My concern is that the balancing will be accomplished by stopping more (non) – blacks and hispanics.

The police will still stop the same number of blacks & hispanics, but will have to increase the token stopping of (non) – black and hispanics just to create an image of balance

Then we will all be equal in our oppression by the state – yikes !

I think the question was planted, your president needs all the black and latino votes if he is to survive 2012.

Last year we – blond, British tourists- were stopped and checked numerous times near the Mexican border. We thought it was nothing out of ordinary, the police were doing a good job.

Ghetto Rambler   July 23rd, 2009 - 7:16 am

You can take guys like this out of the neighborhood, but you can’t take the neighborhood out of guys like this. Put a suit and tie on them and they are simply clean looking. Meantime, still the same old small minded uppity welfare and food stamp recipient, lost in his victimhood.

Steve   July 23rd, 2009 - 7:48 am

Obama should not comment on a situation without knowing all the facts. Who knows what was said or what actions occurred. Especially when the victim is an acquaintance. Obama seems to have a problem viewing all sides of a situation first. His way or no way is the standard procedure. No comment would have been the viable answer. This defect in his personalty will be his downfall.

Airwick   July 23rd, 2009 - 8:49 am

Sorry, Pres., if you don’t know the details, then don’t talk about it. The “devil” is in the details, after all.

When The Levee Baracks   July 23rd, 2009 - 9:44 am

Once Obama goes off the Teleprompter, the REAL Obama surfaces. His advisers must go into panic mode when he speaks off the cuff.

If anything, the President owes the cop and apology for damning him without knowing the facts.

SHOCKED   July 23rd, 2009 - 9:59 am

I approached a friend and said lets act out the senario.
Any senario he wants.
I’ll be the cop and you be the professor.
I as the cop, come in, don’t know you and ask for ID.
You provide it that you live in the house.
Do you answer… thanks for coming and checking this out
to see if my house is being robbed.
( this is what a normal person would say )
Would I as the cop then say… your under arrest anyway
and handcuff him.
Come on, you know the professor escalated the situation
for some book deal.
I also feel my president, who I voted for, let the
American people down.
In one breathe he says he does not know what happen,
and the next breathe he says the cops acted stupidly.
And he’s a lawyer who should knopw the rules of evidence.
Shame on him.
For anyone who disagrees with my senario of what
could of happened between the cop and the professor,
please provide youe senario and see if it holds up to logic.

Here’s a link to the Police Report that describes how “STUPID” this self perceived victim Professor acted like. This is why you should keep your kids
out of the Ivy League schools – they only teach them to be victims and to skew things to ensure that mentality:
http://www.myfoxboston.com/dpp/news/local/henry_louis_gates_arrest_reports_062109
On page 2 you see his marital status is listed as “Divorced” guess his wife couldn’t stand him either – I guess she’s a racist too!

Historian   July 23rd, 2009 - 11:41 am

The first African slaves to set foot in North America was at the English colony settled in 1607.That was long before the English Separatists, better known as the Pilgrims, from Southampton, England, to Plymouth, Massachusetts (which would become the capital of Plymouth Colony), in 1620.

Slavery did not end until 1863.Then there was laws enforcing segregation until 1965.That’s a long time to have certain attitudes about people and a long time for those people to have certain attitudes about themselves and their oppressors.
Racial Profiling is real, the only thing that has changed is Hispanics and people of Arabic heritage have been added to mix.
Just because a Black man was elected POTUS does not mean we live in a post racial society.I doubt if any of us will see that in our life times.Although things are getting better.
It didn’t surprise me that Obama had something to say about the Gates matter.Racial profiling was a major issue for Mr. Obama when he was in the Illinois legislature. He was the chief sponsor of a bill, which became law, that requires police to record the race, age and gender of all drivers they stop for traffic violations and for those records to be analyzed for evidence of racial profiling.
I wont even make an attempt on this forum to discuss the history of race in this country and how it affects both Black and White.I don’t get the feeling that there is that kind of intellect or sensitivity here.

Talen – You got to be friggin kidding. I never heard so much whining going on till the Messiah was annointed. “I INHERITED THIS, I INHERITED THIS” and all along he is raising the deficit 5 time more than it was 6 months ago. But he counting on stupid people like you carrying his water.

There’s a huge gap between Obama’s assessment of the events and the police report. Obama ignored Gate’s actions after Crowley showed up and went straight to the arrest. Our President’s spin tactics are so obvious here. They’re used by him in speech after speech after speech. Smoke and mirrors. Still, he’s blindly supported by so many.

I believe there may be racial profiling in society that
has to be rooted out.
But MR. President, pick a case that’s airtight.
Don’t use this professor as your poster boy
for racial profiling.
IN fact, it looks the other way around.
It looks like the cop was profiled by the president.

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

What a strawman argument:

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

——–4th Amendment to the United States Constitution.”

OK, a witness saw a break-in and reported it… Fortunately, it was the owner of the house breaking into the premises. However, the witness did not know that and the police had reasonable cause to respond.

This is not a 4th Amendment issue…

[...] The grammar is offensive enough, but colored women? Welcome to 2010.  Thanks, Feministing, for leading by example on the racial sensitivity front.  But it would appear that in this case, the diversity police acted stupidly. [...]
