Photog in Sarkozy Photo Frenzy Speaks

Audio: "He [French President Nicolas Sarkozy] started pointing at me and then his, I believe it was his wife on the boat, but I'm not a 100-percent certain, translated and she said that the president had told both of us at a morning press conference that would be no more pictures," freelancer photographer Vince DeWitt said.

Can someone tell me why is this a news story? – Let’s see – - – somebody in the public eye yelled at photographers invading their privacy while on vacation. Hmm, where have I heard this before? Oh yeah the first 2000 times this has happened. Paparazzi are dirtbags plain and simple. It takes no balls to stand 300 ft away and snap a photo with a zoom lens. It’s not only rude, its just plain creepy.

Candy   August 6th, 2007 - 2:02 pm

Throw him out of the country and cut all trade off from france for showing us disrespect. He has some nerve.

webstar   August 6th, 2007 - 2:08 pm

If he would have jumped in my boat uninvited I would have thrown him overboard

Why would something this trivial and minor even be considered news. The way the media now sensationalizes insignificant events or behaviors has become ridiculous.

Wow, this is crazy stuff…if the president of any country was yelling at me I’d be scared. You wont see this every day. http://pixelspotlight.com/

Stop the Insanity   August 6th, 2007 - 3:04 pm

Why do people care what happened to the poor photographers who harassed this guy for days on end? I would have thrown the camera into the lake. Let the guy relax so he can be well rested for dealing with W.

Marc   August 6th, 2007 - 3:10 pm

I agree with Matt. “If the President of any country was yelling at me, I’d be scared”.
Oh common! This is France we’re talking about. I’m sure he retreated with little encouragement needed from the photogs.

George   August 6th, 2007 - 3:12 pm

The poor photographer, “he felt threatened.” I can imagine Sarkosy was the one who felt threatened. The only goal of the paparazzi was to have a prize photo to brag about and sell to some rag. I agree with Kevin above.

daveinboca   August 6th, 2007 - 4:35 pm

Dirtbag paparazzi should be kept from people on vacation, even Lindsay & Britney & Paris. They are scum and garbage & should be regulated. And I’m a libertarian!

People above expressing sympathy for the photographer are obvious leftardos.

Sam   August 6th, 2007 - 4:53 pm

This is not news; this is pandering to the stupid photographers who imposed upon the Sarkozy family’s vacation. This is the first leader in along time that wants to work more with the American government rather than against it like the other testicle free leaders of France; what a great welcome the photographers gave. I say Sarkozy should pull a Seinfeld and heckle them on their own turf, pay some outsider to take photographs of their families dig through their trash and follow them around in car, boat, bike etc. etc.. The only reason it is news is because the photographers are creating it. Shame on Drudge for wasting our time with this garbage; (In Jerry Seinfeld voice) BOOOO DRUDGE, BOOO, BOOOO, YOURE NEWS STINKS, BOOO……

Mad Man Moon   August 6th, 2007 - 5:05 pm

I live just minutes from Wini and have a slip there. General consensus around here is just leave the guy alone. He’s just hanging out and relaxing like the rest of the tourists in the area. He has been cordial with those of us who have crossed paths with him. Although, it seems that it’s only the Massholes, New Yorkers and big haired NJ folks that bother to get worked up. Seems they have never seen a politician up close and personal before.

Mark   August 6th, 2007 - 5:06 pm

Remember all the vacations Chirac made in the US? Exactly. Sarkozy is actually quite friendly towards the US… At the risk of losing the election.

Maybe if more public people did this and if it made fewer headlines the practice would become less common.

jack jenson   August 6th, 2007 - 5:31 pm

Frenchie is lucky he didnt jump on MY boat. I would have jabbed my nifty mossberg shotgun in his gut and then ask his wife why I shouldnt kill him? I would have been entitled to harm him.

plistumi   August 6th, 2007 - 5:33 pm

The photographer should be arrested. This is the PRESIDENT of a country not Britney Spears.

Vince Brewster   August 6th, 2007 - 6:36 pm

Mr Sarkozy voluntarily decided long ago to be a public figure — to be a celebrity, if you will. Although I would prefer that he had been left alone, what’s the saying? “When in Rome, do as the Romans do?” In the United States — as well as anywhere else in the western world — that means getting your picture taken when you are out and about if you’re a celebrity.

Undignified and unstatesmanlike though it was, I have no problem with Sarkozy’s yelling and screaming at the men intruding on his vacation. However, he more than crossed the line when he trespassed on their boat — he literally went overboard to get into their boat. He compounded his own egregious behaviour when he put his hands on the photographer’s camera.

My bet is that Sarkozy technically violated more than one law of the State of New Hampshire.

CH Rasch   August 6th, 2007 - 7:00 pm

I am sure that these journalists (I believe their reputation is now below the Nation’s love for the Congress.) told themselves, at the end of the day, that they were “doing their job” and should be above being scolded. Well, they are lower than Trial Lawyers and crack dealers. This is where “journalism” has gone… the justification for invasion of privacy on any level. They should have been trashed by the Secret Service and Mr. Sarkozy’s guards. Journalists have become social scum.
