Obama wanted the job and campaigned vigorously for it, promising “change”. So much for “change”, unless specifically where a President vacations is counted as part of it. Obama no doubt felt he needed to be “near” Teddy at this time.

While I don’t begrudge his family a vacation away from the relentless scrutiny that comes with living in the White House, he could have planned a more modest one, if for nothing else than to demonstrate sensitivity towards all those who had to forgo vacations and other things because of the economy.
