Pence Breaks Into Laughter on House Floor Over Dems’ Claims They Have Cut Taxes

"I just happened to wonder, Mr. Speaker, about the American people looking in this morning to hear Democrats saying they cut taxes more than any other congress in history. Let me see if we can do this: they passed a budget with record taxes and spending, add a trillion dollars to the national debt in the next 10 years, they passed a national energy tax called the cap and trade that will cause utility rates to go up on small businesses and family farms and businesses across the this country by hundreds of billions of dollars."

I guess none of you people posting on this site have a job. My payroll tax cut added to the same cut for my husband adds up to about $160.00 per month. That is definately NOT chump change. I also received a much bigger tax refund this year due to the energy efficiency credits as well as the fact that I have 2 kids in college. remind me again, how big of a tax cut did we, the middle class get under W?

PENCE'um   April 14th, 2010 - 3:32 pm

Idiots. Someone please tell me how you are unaware of the fact that your paychecks miraculouly got larger without a pay raise. was it the ghost of Reagan? Oh,no, that’s right, reagan was the one who gave the big tax cuts to the rich, exploded the defeceit and started the destruction of our economy, so it can’t be him. Still haven’t heard how much of a tax cut anyone in the middle class got under W.

Mick Russom   April 14th, 2010 - 3:44 pm

A socialist, a democrat, a progressive, or a RINO EVERY AGAIN.

NO ONE in my family will vote for these rat vermin traitors EVER AGAIN either.

Democrats, you drew the line in the sand, get ready for November and you eventual dissolution.

Jana   April 14th, 2010 - 3:46 pm

I agree with the idea of donating to specific senators in states where they are running against democrats. This is a national effort and we can contribute in more ways than ever before. My husband is getting used to seeing these donations showing up on our Visa card each month and supports it. Every bit helps.

As for Senator Pence’s comments- I love it, but I love another variation of the line better: “Who are you going to believe? Me? or your lying eyes?”

Guest   April 14th, 2010 - 3:48 pm

It was National Socialist Goebbels who said that if you tell a lie long enough, and it is big enough, eventually people will believe it.
When I hear dimocrap, I think of a Goebbels National Socialist. When I see a dimocrap, I see Satan.
The repugnants are not far behind.

The real enemy are progressives – Margaret Sanger progressives, who hate blacks, worship at the altar of abortion, and want to fundamentally transform America into a turd-world nation.

Jana   April 14th, 2010 - 4:01 pm

Alex, you may not want to believe it, but your increase in take home pay is actually due to a short term reduction in FICA that was passed during the Bush administration. I believe it is temporary. As for your energy efficiency credits, those have been around for MANY years prior to Obama, in fact Obama had nothing to do with your credit last year. This is also a one time credit I believe.

Employers use a chart that determined how much with holding to take out of wages earned, and this reduction had been in the works before Obama took office. What Obama IS going to effect (none of his polices regarding wages, and taxes has come into effect yet) are home owners attempting to sell homes that will have to retro fit them for energy compliance before sale, increase in middle class taxes to cover the deficits, and Obamacare, (yes, sin taxes, VATs and increase energy costs effect the middle class) and the continued loss of jobs due to expanding taxes, and small business insurance demands.

fantum   April 14th, 2010 - 4:01 pm

DO YOU REALLY EXPECT HONESTY FROM A DEMOCRAT?

A Democrat sells his vote (Stupak), has an extramarital affair (Clinton), cheats on his taxes (Rangle), accepts bribes (Murtha RIP), sells a Senate seat (Jackson), backs underage sex-trafficking (Cleaver), lives with a pimp (Frank), lies about racism (Carnahan), and on and on and on…

THEY ARE DEMOCRATS and IT IS EXPECTED OF THEM! They have no morals, there is no God, praise homosexuals, be politically correct, kill your baby, tax global warming, embrace illegals, bigger government is the answer to everything. The most corrupt Democrat is the most exalted.

Hate to say it guys, but I also got a tax cut this year — as did most people. The problem as I see it, though, is that all of these cuts (and MASSIVE spending increases!) are going to necessitate huge spending cuts AND tax increases in the future. Don’t get me wrong, I have huge problems with the Dem spending, but let’s just be accurate about the situation.

did you ever stop to think that very soon you will begin to pay extra for the healthcare bill just passed, i mean like within a month or two? but guess what? wht you are paying in will not be working for you until four years hence.

Alex, perhaps that $160 savings from “tax cuts” you receive will offset the cost of the cap and trade taxes on your thermostat, at the gas pump, or for your higher insurance premium. I get your logic though. Much like the “making work pay” tax credit/rebate I received, it was relinquished to my LOCAL government instead through a county option income tax. My county and city, run by Dems, do the same kind of math the feds do. You and I are not receiving extra money to spend, it’s simply moved around and called something else. Ever heard of Enron and Arthur Anderson?

Alex, the point I’m making is that whenever a federal tax cut or credit is made, look no further than the local governments to take that away from you under another name. Hey, I agree, tax cuts are and would be great, but so would shrinking the size of government to make my tax burden go further. Politicians and political parties want to lay blame at the feet of everyone else while ignoring who the real culprit is, government, and the real victims, the working class of all wage spectrums.

next year. tax cuts are permanent until congress votes them out. 2011

mg24   April 14th, 2010 - 4:34 pm

Alex and now sad to add Polska to this post:

I hate to break this to you, but just because you got a few dollars more to take home on your paychecks, doesn’t mean that your taxes went down at all. If you saw a bigger tax refund, it’s probably due to some temporary credits in play this year, most of which were not Obama’s doing. I prepare income taxes for a living and the one thing I can definitely attest to is that regardless of tax liability, while Bush was president I saw an increase in gross annual income accross the board from year to year. Never in my years of practice have I seen such a decline in annual earnings accross the board as I’m seeing for 2009.

Some of these credits you are so happy about now will not be here in 2010 and you will have to pay more from year to year. Let’s see how well you both are doing in a couple of years. Hope and change will not pay your bills.

my tax refund (if that is what you want to call it) was not larger than any other year( smaller Yes Larger no way)
We need true tax cuts not tax credits
We the people need to make the goverment to Live on a lot less that ever before.
why don’t you look and see what was done during the depression of 1920
see what that president did . He cut spending In half and cut taxes in half and we had the roaring 20s, more people gained real wealth and people got phones , friges , in door plumbing, we had the largest increase in middle class than ever before .

some truth   April 14th, 2010 - 7:13 pm

“Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government.” –James Madison

“If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the General Welfare, the Government is no longer a limited one, possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one, subject to particular exceptions.”

- James Madison, 1787

An elective despotism was not the government we fought for; but one in which the powers of government should be so divided and balanced among the several bodies of magistracy as that no one could transcend their legal limits without being effectually checked and restrained by the others.”

- James Madison, Federalist No. 58, 1788

Thor   April 14th, 2010 - 7:15 pm

Alex, your post at 6:11 seemed sincere and I take it in that spirit. One additional note
about taxes during the Bush years. An old article on Slate.com indicated during President
Bush’s first term that a household earning $20,000 per year from 2001 to October 2004 saw
a tax cut of 24%. That was true for households earning $60,000 per year also. During the
same time period a household earning $350,000 also saw a tax cut but only 12.5%. My fear
is that under this administration any tax cuts, small or large, are in the rear view
mirror and out of sight.

I wish you the best and pray that you do find the motivation, energy and opportunity
to do something for not only you but your children as well. May they find inspiration
in seeing you willing to work hard for independence and choice, free from the dependency
and servitude to the government.

We don’t want socialism and government run health care. We don’t want businesses taken over and run by corrupt politicians and incompetent bureaucrats. We know that Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are bankrupt. We know that the national debt is $12.5 trillion and our children and grandchildren can never repay it. We know that spending is excessive and wasteful and we want the Idiots in Washington to stop.
1. Obama tripled 2009 fiscal year budget deficit from $455 billion to $1.4 trillion.
2. Stimulus Bill $862 billion, only 7% for infrastructure projects.
3. Omnibus $410 billion Domestic Spending Bill, 9,287 pork barrel projects.
4. Obama’s 2010 fiscal year spending budget is a record $3.6 trillion.
5. Obama’s 2011 fiscal year spending budget is a record $3.8 trillion.
6. Obama wants to freeze some 2011 spending for discretionary programs. This is around $13 billion. Not much of a spending freeze. It is more smoke and mirrors to hide spending increases and to confuse people. Obama is very good at that.
7. The national debt is currently $12.8 trillion.
8. Congress voted, December 24, 2009 to raise the debt ceiling to $12.4 trillion.
9. Congress voted, January 28, 2010 to raise the debt ceiling $1.9 trillion raising it to $14.3 trillion.
10. Unfunded future pension and health benefits are $65 trillion. This will collapse our society, our government and our economy.

We are living the economic and social collapse of America.

ThePatrioticObserver   April 14th, 2010 - 8:25 pm

I hate to say this but Pence needs to look at his own party and their betrayal of truly conservative values. Bush was a fiscal socialist. If the GOP wasn’t trying to out-commie the Democrats they might get more support. Both Parties, with the exception of a handful, are just out for power through thievery of the US citizen taxpayer. I trust them as far as I can throw them off a roof.

Anti-Alex   April 14th, 2010 - 8:42 pm

Alex,
You, my friend, have fed at the trough of lies filled by those who wish to control you. First, the tax benefits you have recieved were established in 2008. Second, you will see a much more drastic decrease in taxes when you lose your job due to the overburdensome taxes and “Health Care” penalties coming down the pike for your employer.

Anti-Alex   April 14th, 2010 - 8:44 pm

Let’s simplify it: when a smart and ambitious person creates a product or service that people want, they expect to be compensated generously. In the process, they hire people, refine their product/service based on demand and feedback and prosper. When an outside force, like gov’t, increases their costs and makes it cost prohibitive to grow their business (see: “Tax the Rich”), they don’t hire, trim payroll, and manage their business just under the threshold, while still maintaining a nice lifestyle.

Tax the rich – the middle class suffers. The poor? They don’t care anyway.

mcsully1975   April 14th, 2010 - 8:49 pm

@ Alex…why the class warfare?? What difference does it make whether someone is middle class, upper class, or lower clas….if someone pays a certain amount of federal income taxes then they should be entitled to a tax cut of a percentage that corresponds with what they paid in federal taxes ..even if that person is a millionaire….the majority of the federal income tax burdon is being paid by the wealthy in this country….not by poorer individuals….if a poor or middle income individual hypothetically pays 100 in federal taxes…they shouldnt be entitled to anything greater than 100….that would be welfare….essentially taking money from 1 group and passing it out to others….those who got tax cuts under Bush got tak cuts based on what they were paying towards the federal tax burdon….you are happy about the money you are receiving now from Obama….but just wait until 2011….the Bush tax cuts expire and most people are gonna get hit in some way or another…not to mention they are talking about a national sales tax/Value added tax….so that 160.00 you are so happy getting back each month will be erased most likely….our current leaders want us to be permanently dependent on them….and they want you to be perpetually jealous/angry/bitter towards anyone who earns more than you, and higher taxes means less opportunity for upward mobility for low and middle income people in this country..

Commie Obama turned out to be the biggest con man in American history and you bought it lock, stock and barrel.

Mike Pence Rocks!

Barack Hussein Obama Sucks!

firesteel   April 14th, 2010 - 9:55 pm

I for one paid less taxes last year. It’s because yes, I no longer have a job.

Bud   April 14th, 2010 - 10:42 pm

WORD!

Sue Goodchild   April 14th, 2010 - 11:30 pm

You said it right…and laughing is the only thing left…those Democraps are idiots and are selling us down the tubes. Stay strong and keep standing up for our freedom and liberty.

conservative-challenged   April 14th, 2010 - 11:46 pm

Pence adding taxes from cap and trade which hasn’t passed in the Senate or been signed into law…what a DOPE!

yeah, uhhuh, that's right   April 14th, 2010 - 11:59 pm

Alex is one of the useful idiots needed by the libtards to advance their agenda. He believes OBOWma and the socialist congress libtards are on his side, that they put more money in his pocket this year. Alex and his kind will vote for more liberals, because they falsely believe the socialist will take care of him, let him keep more of his “tax” dollars. What a moron. Live for now, not the future. Live that way and watch yourself go broke.

yeah, uhhuh, that's right   April 15th, 2010 - 12:01 am

Breitbart: you’re kidding about moderation, right?

Mike   April 15th, 2010 - 12:32 am

Mike Pence has a reason to laugh. So far the Obama administration has increased taxes on the American people by a whopping $620 billion since Obama took office – and still climbing.

Obama promised NO middle class tax increases – HE LIED!! Taxes are going through the ROOF and needless to say Obama and the no good Democrats are to blame. Corruption has become soooooo rampant in the halls of this Democratic controlled Congress that the Italian Mafia looks tame in comparison in my opinion. Obama not only wants to “spread the wealth around” he wants to put the American people in the poor house while he does it.

The unending and irresponsible spending by the Democratzi has put the United States of America on an unsustainable fiscal path toward bankruptcy where by 2020 100% of our GDP will go to pay the “interest” on the U.S. deficit. Obama’s Science Czar recently stated that we can NOT expect America to remain in first place (economically or otherwise) forever. Oh really?? I wonder why??

>> Because Obama’s Science Czar knows full well that the fiscal trajectory of the United States is headed straight to HELL in a hand basket and we’ll have no other choice but to “fall behind” because our incompetent Dummy in Chief couldn’t find his way out of a paper bag let alone run the country. And the tax cheat who runs the Treasury Department is another reason. Timothy Geithner ran the New York Federal Reserve Bank before becoming U.S. Treasury Secretary and was at a minimum massively derelict in the performance of his duties while at the Federal Reserve Bank, and may well be culpable in aiding and abetting Lehman Bros. in accounting fraud and Sarbox violations. In fact, Timothy Geithner has recently been indicted in connection with the Lehman Bros. debacle yet you’d never know it by the Lame Stream Media who have basically shunned the story altogether >> trying to once again “cover” Obama’s backside from any negative exposure.

Obama is a Socialist contrary to what Ron Paul might think too. His objectives are to take as much money as he can from people or businesses who have earned it and give it to people (and other countries) who haven’t earned it or who in many cases hate our guts.

Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” is Obama’s real ‘bible’ in my humble opinion and Saul Alinsky was a Communist if ever there was one. If you look around you’ll notice that Communism has NEVER worked wherever it has been tried yet that hasn’t stopped Obama from trying to ‘change’ America into not only a Nanny State but ultimately his desire, in my opinion, is to turn the U.S. into a Communistic “commune” where the people are simply wards of the State and “robots” of the political elite (tyrannical dictatorship), where nobody will own anything and private property will be a thing of the past. You think I’m kidding right? Nah uh… no joke.

Don’t judge Obama by what he ’says’. Judge him by what he “does” and you’ll come to realize just how “dastardly” and “subversive” Barack Hussein Obama really is. You may be wondering why he hasn’t released his academic and other personal records for public scrutiny or the fact as to why he has spent literally over a million dollars of his own money on lawyers keeping those same records secret? Because if he released them more than likely he’d finally be “exposed” for who he really is = A FRAUD! if you ask me. And a Communist at the core of his very being if the truth were known. He’d never admit it of course, because he wants to get reelected in 2012 which I pray to God never happens by the way. And I hope the American people who voted for him and the American people as a whole will come together and vote his lame ‘derriere’ out of office when that time comes. Pull off the blinders and and open your eyes – and for God’s sake “see” through the ‘ruse’ that is the Obama administration. Don’t drink the kool-aid that the Lame Stream Media is propagating and try to get beyond Obama’s smile and friendly demeanor and look instead at his actions and deeds. And above all don’t forget to vote on November 6, 2012! Write it down and put in on your refrigerator if you have to. But VOTE! And let’s TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY! For our children, and our grandchildren, and our great grandchildren, and our great great grandchildren, and for us! And then let’s get back to basics – to adherence to the Constitution and to a FREE enterprise system and American ingenuity and American know how – and get this greatest country on God’s green Earth back on the road to prosperity and to abundant jobs and the American exceptionalism that our Founding Fathers believed in with every ounce of their beings and who fought and died for! United We Stand! >> divided we fall…

Retired   April 15th, 2010 - 1:27 am

Alex, I’m a retired teacher. I get a monthly check, and was notified last year in February that I would get an extra $14 per month because of the “obama tax cut”. WOW…that’s almost a cup of coffee per day! Then a month or two later, I was notified that I had better increase my tax withholdings because this tax cut wasn’t really a cut, because my end-of-year tax liability would not be changing. I was effectively only getting an early refund with that $14, and would have to repay it this April. It was nothing more than a “payday loan” that not only did I have to repay, but if I didn’t have enough cut throughout the year, I would also face a fine and penalty in April. Sounds as if your energy tax credit is all that asaved you. Wake up, and smell the coffee!!!!

Even if you didn’t have to repay those “tax cuts”, is it worth selling your family’s future and your country for $160 per month? As I see it, saving my country is PRICELESS.

Sherm   April 15th, 2010 - 2:46 am

You realize he’s not really speaking to anyone… most of the chairs are empty, its all for show, its always for show. Politicians have become unnecessary in our society. Try voting for someone who’s not a part of either of the 2 big parties, otherwise, you’re a pawn of one or the other. Go to hell.

Vic   April 15th, 2010 - 5:08 am

@Sherm he knows the Cspan cameras are on. Not only is he talking to those in the chamber, he’s also speaking directly TO US!

& He’s Right.

I'mwithalex   April 15th, 2010 - 6:47 am

i also have lower withholding taxes from pay check this year. Doesnt anyone wee the tax rate tables? Federal income tax rates for 2010 have been reduced. Oh, and do you notice how the stock market has rebounded since the Obama stimulus has been implemented? The free-market recognizes the benefits. How much wealth has been created in the stock market for all of us since Obama came in?

I'mwithalex   April 15th, 2010 - 6:53 am

and phonies like Pence. Demagagies who play into you fanatics. Have they offered anything specific about what they would do? And what ever they do, would it turn around the work Obama has done to restore jobs in america? we were losing 800,000 jobs a month when Obama took over. He has gradually reduced that decline, and finally it has actually turned positie last month. Exactly what is it you people are against? what are you people for? Why dont results matter?

Sickofobama   April 15th, 2010 - 7:09 am

I’mwithalex:

At least you’re admitting you’re a dope.

Cheers!

TEA PARTIERS UNITE TODAY TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY FROM BARACK “INSANE” OBAMA!

I'mwithalex   April 15th, 2010 - 7:15 am

maybe i am a dope. i voted for Mccain. But now i see improvement in jobs, wealth created in stoock market. Less tax from my paycheck. Improvement in retail sales. Based on the facts, based on the empirical evidence, i think Obama is doing a great job. Im trying to understand what you people want? I understand what drives Pence. His career is politics. To progress in his career he needs Republicans to win. But what is the motivation for every one else?

Tim   April 15th, 2010 - 9:00 am

Alex—You didn’t pay taxes because you got a refund? Here’s tax class 101: a refund means you gave the government an interest-free loan for a year.

You didn’t pay taxes? Tax class 102: If you filed a 1040 tax return, look at line 41. Surprise! There’s what you paid in taxes before you got the rest of your withholding as a refund. If you filed a 1040EZ, check line 11. Surprise! That’s what you paid in taxes. If you filed a 1040A, check line 37. Surprise!

TM   April 15th, 2010 - 9:01 am

Mike and all others with like opinions are the true American patriots here.
He is correct on every point. We MUST get the corrupt politicians out of OUR government offices.
They are the ones that need to be unemployed, as well as most government employees. Like the entire IRS and ATF and the National Education bureaucracy of liberal “teachers” of distorted history and communist ideology.

We need the simple and fair-for-all Fair Tax system, and throw out the IRS completely.
Americans should be able to keep the money they earn.
The free market untaxed economy would heal itself almost immediately.

And if you want to find out more conservative and Republican ideas and for some specifics go to this site:
http://www.roadmap.republicans.budget.house.gov/

And by the way, don’t any of you people have a spell checker? Or at least have taken any English classes in school? Not to mention History or Civics/Gov.. classes?

Paula   April 15th, 2010 - 9:09 am

Alex, I enjoyed a much bigger tax break under Bush and the Republicans than I will EVER enjoy under Obama and the demorats. I’m not rich either. I am lower Middle class. I will NEVER vote democrat again. I was an Independent until this administration started it’s Chicago mafia-style thug tactics. I am now solidly Republican and will work for regime change in November, 2010 and 2012. Say goodbye to your fake messiah! Worship him while you can, because he’s going to loose his luster in November and will be thrown out of office in 2012, if not sooner because of his unconstitutional acts.

Steve In Tulsa   April 15th, 2010 - 9:34 am

I have been saving my pay stubs for the last year and a half to prove to my liberal friends that there was no tax cut. My take home pay has actually gone down since obama took office. I can prove it with my pay stubs. You liberals heard on the TV that you got a tax cut and you actually believe what ever Olberman talls you in spite of the evidence in yur pay stubs.

Steve In Tulsa   April 15th, 2010 - 9:40 am

And it bears repeating that Democrats have been writing the budgets since 2007 when they took majorities. The last year of a republican/Bush budget was 2006 with a deficit of 167 billion and unemployment at 4.7. Then the dims took over and have been pushing up the deficit and unemployment astronomically. We have 18% real unamployment. We have a deficit last year of 1.7 trillion and this year is the same. Well over ten times the defict from the last Bush budget with five times as much unemployment. All the responsibility lies with the democrats who have been in charge. Liars every single one of them. But there are always gullible ‘useful idiots’ like Alex.

I'mwithalex   April 15th, 2010 - 10:00 am

i am not talking about a refund. my witholding is lower because income tax rates are lower this year. Thats a fact. How can we be disagreeing about basic empirical facts?

Cogs   April 15th, 2010 - 10:18 am

Hey Alex..here you gooooooo…the Bush tax cuts took the “Non-taxable” (don’t pay any Fed income tax) from 38 million to almost 50 million…NO TAX. I did not agree with that whatsoever. 10 million more people that don’t pay any tax, still get to vote and look what we have now…non-contributing voters (takers). If you don’t pay Fed income tax, you don’t get to vote in national elections..simple as that.
