I recently asked my friends’ little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President of the United States. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there. So I asked her, “If you were President, what would be the first thing you would do?” She replied, “I’d give food and houses to all the homeless people.” Her parents beamed.
“Wow…what a worthy goal,” I told her. “But you don’t have to wait until you’re President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my driveway, and I’ll pay you $50. Then I’ll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.”
She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, “Why doesn’t the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?”
I said, “Welcome to the Republican Independent Party.”
Her parents still aren’t speaking to me. Made my day!

The most important fact about the “opt out” scheme allegedly allowing states to decline government health insurance is that a state can’t “opt out” of paying for it. All 50 states will pay for it. A state legislature can only opt out of allowing its own citizens to receive the benefits of a federal program they’re paying for.
Nancy can’t let the public in. We may find out about the pork and special interests in the bill they sold we the people out for to line their filthy corrupt pockets with. We may see money exchanging hands as they sell us out.

Because precinct committeemen vote for the leadership of the Party and can vote to endorse the BEST candidates in the Republican primaries. Why Scozzafava get the nod? I hate to generalize, but if the demented (evidenced by memory lapses, uncontrolled emotional outbursts, and seeming lack of ability to separate reality from fantasy) ms. pelosi had any part in it, I’m sure I’m diametrically opposed. The only things she benefits are her family’s businesses and the plastic surgery industry. I’m also waiting for “mr. transparency” to make good on his promise to sit down with Congress and go through the bill line-by-line; hopefully, on C-Span with a national audience (Didn’t he promise that during the election process?). Not that that would be the first broken promise. I, for one, have been totally impressed with the intense “vetting” process his administration has demonstrated to date (wouldn’t want any crooks, lobbyists, or radicals to slip through). Don’t kid yourselves: they’re getting exactly who and what they want. Only the exposure by people like Glenn Beck is causing them to back off at all. You dems don’t need to worry though, I’m sure the FCC diversity Czar will figure a way to silence opposing views soon (like the man he admires so much, Puko Chavez, did in Venezuela). Maybe OHbummah will have time to sit down with Congress after he gets done second-guessing his Generals on the war. If one didn’t know better, one would think this was the first he had heard of this strategy. Maybe memory lapses are commonplace among dems.
I do support health care reform. When they actually come up with a bill that produces real competition across state lines (the main component for controlling costs), portability, coverage for those who are already sick, controls the excesses of trial-lawyers and the courts, prevents all but critical care to illegals, prohibits use of federal tax dollars for abortions, transgendering, etc.; and most importantly, keeps the government out of my personal decisions and pocketbook: I’ll support it.
I just don’t think the current majority “leadership” wants to accomplish anything other than a major power grab, and to appease one of it’s primary constituencies “the chronically unemployed” at the expense of the US economy and the majority of it’s citizens.
There are enough welfare programs already in place to take care of those who can’t/won’t take care of themselves. My family, including grandparents, parents, and children have never used them, but I guess it’s good to have a safety blanket. And, no I don’t think there’s a medical holocaust going on like that fool representative from Florida. Does he have tangible evidence to support his claims? Or, as I suspect, is he just a big-foul-mouthed idiot? We need to fix some things in the system that 85% of us like, but we sure as heck can’t afford another government takeover of this magnitude. What one could count on is that it will be at least 2-10 times more expensive than projected; and, therefore under-funded, and will increase our already out-of-hand unfunded liabilites. Unless we’re into experimenting with the effects of national bankruptcy, I suggest we introduce a lot of folks in Washington to reality. I’m retired, and there ain’t no way I can come up with my approximately $350,000 part of the current debt, let alone incur any more.
I moved reom a northern state to Alabama 16 years ago. Know what I like the most about the move? A lot less government infringement, and dramatically lower taxes. Now, if I can just keep the Feds from screwing that up, I’ll be a happy man.
