It was a passport office worker quite correctly trying to spare this short-sighted, self-centered traveler embarrassment or worse in some other FOREIGN country where standards can be, and are DIFFERENT! How unbelievably rude, and just plain dumb to make a big deal out of someone who is simply trying to help you. Yes, yes, she was going to Cancun. But who knows where she could find herself on the way for any number of reasons. Who knows what corrupt foreign official she might meet looking for ANY EXCUSE to shake down a "rich American." It happens every day, Lady.

Grow up, wake up, and apologize to the passport lady.

I really do not find bra straps attractive and believe the info on getting passports should include attire info and people should know what to expect before packing their bags. Just because you can afford the plan ticket does not mean you have enough sense to travel. Bailing idiots out of trouble abroad is not cheap for us.

If this woman was planning to go to an oppressive Muslim country, I can understand the advice.

But, she was going to Mexico. So, Bill, your hypersensitivity to this issue makes this more YOUR problem, not hers or ours.

The worker at the passport office has a point, there are a lot of nutty countries who will flip out over nothing.

The lady taking the picture should have cropped it accordingly !

First is the size of the photograph. Passport photos are 2" x 2" in size taken within the past 6 months.

The image size from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head should be between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches.

The photographs may be in color or black and white.

They must be full face, front view with a plain white or off-white background.

Photographs should be taken in normal street attire, without a hat or headgear that obscures the hair or hairline.

Uniforms should not be worn in photographs with the exception of religious attire which is worn daily.

If prescription glasses, a hearing device, wig or similar articles are normally and consistently worn, they should be worn when the picture is taken.

Dark glasses or nonprescription glasses with tinted lenses are not acceptable unless required for medical reasons. A medical certificate may be required to support the wearing of such glasses in the photographs.

A little advice: wear what you want, but stay out of Mexico.
