It would be nice if these kinds of stories had more helpful information. I had to go research this on my own. Apparently, the injury, while I’m sure painful, is not as serious as others. I found this article helpful in explaining the injury more thoroughly:

I think that medically, it is always prudent when someone has a spinal cord injury to get them up on their feet as quickly as possible and move them around to assure that as many nerves as possible are severed. NBA all the way!!!

This is not a spinal cord injury but an injury of the transverse process of the spine. Since the head and neck were not involved in the accident and there was no loss of feeling and/or movement of the extremities there would be no indication for immobilization of the injured player.

Got a bum education, double-digit inflation
Can’t take the train to the job, there’s a strike at the station
Neon King Kong standin’ on my back
Can’t stop to turn around, broke my sacroiliac
A mid-range migraine, cancered membrane
Sometimes I think I’m going insane, I swear I might….

Actually the trauma to the the spine and fracture of the vertebra will always result in swelling with a good pollibility of nerve damage, especially if bone fragments are involved, which wouldn’t be known until the scans. Watch the video again and tell me that the head and neck were not involved as you watch them bounce off the floor like Katumba at a watermelon bust. By all means, jerk the fellow to his feet and walk him around. He likely collapsed prior to his trip to the hospital. You probably won’t see him player the rest of the season, if at that.

Poor kid just trying to entertain the folks , i remember a game where vince carter did a harmless lay-up instead of going up for a dunk and the fans boo.
