You armchair generals who think you have to have jets and tanks and “armor piercing assault rifles” (LOL) to effectively fight against a modern military crack me up. It seems to me that those folks over there in Afghanistan and Iraq are taking quite a toll against several of the most powerful militaries in the world with not much more than small arms. Remember a few years ago when the irregular group Hezbollah held off the Israeli Defense Force’s assault on Lebanon? There are more ways to fight a war than with a conventional military (as the Regulars learned at Lexington and Concord, and as we Americans ourselves are learning right now as it becomes OUR turn to play empire). The most effective weapon on any battlefield is still the single well-placed rifle shot. Remember this — amateurs talk hardware, experts talk software. Its not so much about what equipment you have to fight with — its about knowing the right way to employ it. Like one earlier poster said, an old model 1898 Mauser is still a deadly and effective battlefield weapon. One of the most effective battle rifles in existence is the M1 Garand, which you can get for $500 from the CMP if you are part of a marksmanship organization. If I had to wager, I’d say the old boy in that video with the poodle shooter probably has a lot more hardware than he does software. You can tell by that scope mounted way up high on his carrying handle, even though he doesn’t have a built up cheek rest… there’s no way he’s getting proper sight alignment, sight picture, or cheek weld.
