I remember listening to my Uncle, back when I was a child, telling similar jokes. Back then it was the Jews, the WOPS, the POLS, and you name it. That man never had an antisemitic bone in his body. He passed away a few years ago at 88 years of age. I’ll always miss him.

Obama’s National Security Advisor is anti-semitic, what a surprise. Will Obama go to Israel and campaign in 2012 as he did in 2008, to reassure the Israelis and people of Jewish faith? How long before Obama begins to publicy hone his R’epertoire.

This is a small part of a Jewish media ofensive against Obama for his lack of obedience towards Netanyahu. They did this to Putin after he attacked the jewish oligarchs who stole Russian natural resources. This is why Putin suddenly became a dangerous enemy of democracy. When Obama dissed Netanyahu recently over Israeli expansion in E Jerusalem, he sealed his fate. Jimmy Carter also comes to mind as a victim because of his recent book. Carter is now being portrayed as an anti-semite by the media. Love the internet because we now have an alternate source of free speach.

If anything, it’s anti-taliban, not anti-semitic! The joke only makes sense because the merchant’s Jewish heritage explains why he gives the Taliban Soldier a hard time! I think the merchant responded respectably to the Taliban Soldier’s string of insults and ethnic slurs… he showed Gandhi-esque passivity and then still got in a dig at the Soldier’s expense.

This clip may indeed reflect a deep seeded bias in the current administration. Nonetheless, it was a pretty good joke!

It would be a funny joke, if told by one of us at a party. It would seems pretty innocuous in that setting. This setting, however, is wholly inapropriate for such. Just the same, give the guy a break – he’s used to killing people for a living, not telling jokes. His boss is an idiot, but he’s just trying to keep us safe.

I don’t know what to make of this video. As a Jew, I constantly hear Jew-jokes or comments from Jewish friends. But really, is a formal seminar or meeting such a great place for a NON-JEW to tell it? I do not think this joke was anti-semitic. It was politically incorrect. Let’s take this in context.

First of all, many Jews including myself think that the best place for a Taliban guerrilla to live is about six feet under – these are the people who chopped off Daniel Pearl’s head because he was a Jew, and murdered over 2000 people at the World Trade Center. Given the chance, if your average Taliban warrior could press a magic button that could accomplish this every Jew (not just Israeli) would be dead. Am I being harsh? No I am being realistic. These people want to see me dead or at least convert to Islam by the sword which I am not willing to do.

Second, the organization sponsoring the speech is funded by AIPAC supporters, and is pro=Israeli. Many people in the audience were Jews. It is a funny joke. The General, I am sure, will not be telling “inside” jokes in the future.

The joke can be changed to a christian (or any other) merchant, but I think it has the greatest affect when you realize the irony of it being a Jew that offers to “help” the muslim. After all, we Jews have experienced so much warmth and good feelings from the Muslims lately; it’s high-time we gave some of it back.

Why has YouTube disabled comments for this video on their site? It seems they do this alot when it is Dems making gaffes. Listen to all the reporters laughing it up. Yes, it is just a joke but jokes like this can no longer be made as they are racist and this man in this position should have known better. He needs to step down. This joke could have only been made if the joke was about a Jew or a white person or more specifically a southern white person. These are the only categories that racial jokes are told about now and apparently people believe it is ok. Well, it isn’t ok.

The version I heard long ago contained no references to Jews, Taliban or other ethnicities; such references are not needed to elicit the humor, or the embedded wisdom. Someone made the all-important point that this is HYPOCRISY – the liberal elites always talk condescendingly to us about how racist all of us average Americans are when THEY are actually the true racists and race-baiters.

They play both sides of the issue with the Jews – on one hand acting as if they’re the arbiters of what’s anti-Semitic and offensive, and then on the other bashing the Jews for running their own country and mistreating the Palestinians and their terrorist leadership.

As an observant Jew, i must say that i don’t find this offensive at all, and really fail to see why some people commonly find slights where none are intended.

I thought it was funny. We, conservatives, cannot be hypocritical and get upset about a joke and then say how liberals can’t ever take a joke against them. I thought it showed Jews in a good light actually. Showing how much smarter they are than the Taliban and the like.

It’s not so much the joke but the double-standard by which it is reported. If this were a republican or during a republican administration, MSNBC, the NYT, CNN, CBS, ABC, and NBC would’ve been all over it. Obama can make a joke about the Special Olympics, his administration can tell a Jewish joke (which I found funny and not offensive), and trust Joe Biden to speak in public, and nothing is reported.

I thought the joke was funny. The way it was delivered not so great. If you want to see some really anti semitic comments read the comments on this posting. They were horrid in many cases. Yes I am a Jew. I love the one about the Jew being so cheap that he would cast out his first born. Anyone I have ever known of my community has sent their children to college,medical school or law school and has provided quite well and beyond what most parents do for their children. Jealousy,and anti semitism rears its ugly head hear and not in that joke. Jews have survived because we can laugh at ourselves. We have produced some of the greatest comedians in the world. That is another tool of survival.

To TonyL: the scenario: I and a neighbor lay claim to a piece of land, but at the moment I am living on it. Since I first moved in other neighbors banded together and tried to run me off. My land-claim neighbor is now empowered and refuses to negotiate with me, but instead continually tries to burn down my house. I respond in kind- or worse- but instead of saying to him “f*ck you” in total, I am still willing to find a compromise, but first he has to acknowledge that I’m not leaving and he has to agree to stop attempting to burn down my house. But now the other neighbors who had banded together to run me out have decided to use my land-claim neighbor’s argument with me as their cause celebre for my removal. My land-claim neighbor is now no more than a useful tool in an agenda distanced from our original land-claim discussion. They are now serviced by the greater community in their favor just as I am serviced by a greater community in my favor. My neighbor and I have each been swept away by the tumult. I no longer address “our issue” when I address our dispute. And I am willing to tell my backers to get off of mine, especially when the greatest of my backers decides to favor the coalition endorsing my land-claim neighbor.
In the end I will tell everyone to bug-off- I’m not leaving, and, if you won’t give my peace a chance, I’ll tell all to go and f*ck themselves.

Well, those of you who think this is funny (even if some of you say you are Jewish), all I can say is that when you are a public official and your bosses pretend to be the most PC people in the world. And, they continue to say that words do count, why mess with jokes that are ethnic in nature. I am Jewish and voted for John McCain. Frankly, I think President Obama and those in power leave little to be desired. The joke, when told by a Jew about a Jew is funny…not an appropriate “joke” to be told by a politician in a public forum, with issues about Israel on the forefront. It either showed a lack of tack and understanding on Jones part, unless it was intended to portray Israel unfavorably, which in that case it was probably not that successful anyway, because the Jew actually tried to help the guy by selling him the tie in the first place and shows the Jew know more about things than the “other” guy, who should have listened to the Merchant. Yikes! I can only imagine the uproar over that being said by a Republican.

Depicting the Taliban as a victim and the Jew as being mean truly sets the setting not just for his speech but for the entire Obama policy. I watched this video clip, trying to A) think objectively and B) get the whole context…and hoping that I’d see a broader point the man was making, and that certain people were simply jumping a bit too hastily, with this, and/or simply being oversensitive to it. But, after hearing the whole clip I was left a bit puzzled as to what the overall point of it, was. ‘Typical’ joke, you could say, but…it just didn’t seem like something that would fit in with whatever else he was speaking about, and that made me ask ‘then why say it?’ (also considering there’s only a single Jew left in Afghanistan, last I knew, made it especially seem out of left field). I concluded that at best it was a case of poor judgement and poor taste…and with Barack Obama’s record thus far with Israel, to a lot of folks it just doesn’t look good, all put together…yes, perhaps that has nothing to do with it, but that’s the kind of ‘2 and 2′ that people do and you have to think about things like this in advance because the damage can be substantial. Plus of course the sheer HYPOCRISY involved…if a conservative Republican administration had someone who said this, we all know from sheer experience that the other side (THIS guy’s side!) would be calling for his resignation, criminal investigations, chumming around with Jews in front of the camera and proclaiming how ‘antisemitic’ and ‘insensitive’ it was, etc etc etc, ad nauseum. Bottom line, I wouldn’t have made the joke — it wasn’t appropriate.

Who cares about a politically incorrect joke. The world needs more of those.

The video is too short; it doesn’t give ANY of the context of how that joke fit into his talk. It’s an old joke, it doesn’t depict Jews as greedy merchants – it depicts their disdain for Arabs who demand everything as though they deserve it, (the original joke was an Arab not a Taliban). At the end of the day if the Arab had been cordial, not insulted the Jew and had asked for water instead of demanding it, maybe the Jew would just given him a tie before sending him to his brother’s restaurant? This joke has been going around for a long time. I think it is funny and is not anti-jewish. However, when a high level government spokesperson tells the joke in front of a group it gives the perception that it is anti-jewish. Comedians and non-government spokespeople probably have been telling and passing along this joke for a long time without any complaints. These are the circles that the joke belongs in, not from a nsa head. I think we can all agree that if instead of a “jewish merchant” the words “muslim merchant” or “black merchant” had been used all heck would have broken out or if a member of President Bush’s inner circle had said the media would have been on this for hours and hours.

I’m Jewish and I did not vote for Obama nor will I in 2012. I have to say that first because I don’t want to look like I’m just blindly supporting those clowns and that joke. I listened to that joke and I am not offended. Maybe I’m alone in this line of thinking but I just don’t care about jokes like that. People need to relax. That joke was actually kind of funny and could’ve been funny even if the merchant’s religion was not specified.

Also, I challenge anyone to find a pair of Jewish people who not only live in Afghanistan, but are capable of owning a business that does not get blown up by “the religion of peace.” The worst thing about that joke was the fact that Jews could never own a business in a country like that and still expect to survive very long.

This is an old joke. I’ve got a copy of Sinatra telling it back in ‘74. he told it to much much better effect. I think the political climate of the United States is such right now that any joke about any race or religion is offensive. Tensions are high. Clearly, he is an idiot for telling a joke like that.

He is a former “military” general of the U.S., this was bad taste in itself. The joke was funny though! If any of you had visited the middle east you would know that this joke could be told about the Arabs or Jews as that is the way it works over there by both parties.

Okay, I know we are all sensitive about our particular beliefs, but sometimes this stuff just goes too far. He made a joke in bad taste. I am sure some of us have done the same thing. As a matter of fact, I am willing to wager that, not only have all of us made a mistake before, but many of us have done or said something stupid today! Yes, I do not like the joke, and I am not willing to admit it was funny, because a) I don’t think the joke was very funny, and b) even if it had been humorous, one should make judgments on their own level of self propriety. I PERSONALLY do not like this joke, or anything in the realm of this joke. However, I think we have an ability to take things WAAAAAY too far when someone else makes a slip of the tongue. This guy should apologize, but some people here would like to practically resort to violence. I used to consider myself Conservative, and at that time I hated the violent protests the Left would involve themselves with on a regular basis. But I was blind to the violence on the Right. And that is when I determined that the veil of Political Correctness was nothing more than a ruse that allowed both sides to play race and religion cards as a means to violent protest. The whole game plays thusly: “Oh no! Did you see what [insert name of politician here] said?!? How dare he/she insult [insert name of race, religion, creed, color, etc.]! Well you know what the Left/Right (whichever side is opposite the speaker) would do in this situation… We should get an apology! This guy/gal should be removed forcibly from office! The President should be impeached! Let’s paint some signs up and start a movement!!!” The Right is doing this right now with the Tea Partiers, the Left has done this with violent race riots in the 60s, and so on, and so on. Both sides are guilty and complicit in this. Both sides push so hard for their agendas that they become blinded to reason, and eventually “might makes right”. The fact is that both sides get about half of what they want wrong. Most people in my generation like fiscal conservatism (true conservatism, not using money to push conservative SOCIAL agendas) and want lower taxes and fewer entitlement programs and supporting business to grow the economy and create more jobs and wealth. These things tend to be fought for only by the Republican party, but blindly as they push their own social agendas which are SO backwards it is embarassing. Likewise, my generation likes more social liberties, such as the right for anyone to marry, the right to choose (something I vehemently support even though I personally dislike it), and, essentially, the right of individuals to decide to do with their own lives and time. These tenants seem to only be supported by Democrats, but, again, blindly as they push for their bevy of entitlement programs which inevitably raise taxes and hurt business. The fact is that social liberalism and fiscal conservatism are not mutually exclusive ideals, and I believe this nation can be governed that way, but we get so caught up in propriety and our own versions of morality (yes, that includes you liberals and your bible-thumping like attitude towards environmentalism) that we are unable to move past our petty arguments and truly work together. As a Californian, I find myself in the center of a state completely caught between these two beliefs, and I have seen clearly that both parties truly desire one thing and one thing only; power, and how to maintain it. California is supposed to be this liberal haven, but we tell homosexuals that they are second class citizens that have no right to marry. How super conservative is that!?! Yet we would never vote for a pro-life Republican for the Presidency because it is unfair to tell a woman she has no right to choose. So, according to California, you can choose to end an unwanted pregnancy, but you can’t marry the person you love if we think it’s icky. At the risk of insulting someone, or more likely sounding horribly cliche, I have a dream that one day we will live in a country that judges people not by the color of their skin, nor where they go to church, nor what they do with their own bodies, nor who they love or how they choose to express that love, but by the content of their characters.

Its use by a prominent official at a public speech is not only insensitive and rude, it calls into question the intelligence and judgement of Jones, or, should I say, it confirms the lack thereof. The use of this joke by Jones is totally inappropriate, even if it does not meet a narrow definition of “anti-semitic” since, jews, too, tell this joke.

2. Jokes like this help provide a type of cover for the grossly anti-semitic insults placed in comments here – ranging from obvious hatred to “Concern” trolls. There really are some haters (stormfront comment campaign) on the internet when the see anything with their “key” words in the story: they have come up with some pretty clever “blame the Jews” ploys that THEY think makes them sound reasonable. Scratch the surface even a little and the hate is exposed.

He is the President of the United States, not the servant of the Jews. This was not an off the cuff joke..it was not a bad decision…but an intentional, planned point.
