This is YOUR MESSIAH? HA!

tom   August 11th, 2009 - 2:45 pm

Open mouth and insert foot……how can you make the case for gov’t control of health care if you can even run the Post Office or Amtrak or any other entity……

Anexio   August 11th, 2009 - 2:47 pm

I have no idea where people get the crazy loon idea that the Federal Government can’t run an all encompassing program like a National Heathcare Plan. It’s lunacy to think they cant. Lets look at all the successes, first off we have the Federal Reserve, then the FAA, schools are getting better all the time too.

Sure there are some things that need improvement, like welfare, child care, and civil rights, but those aren’t really programs. They should be programs but they’re not.

Usually whatever the Feds touch they succeed at, it’s when the Republicans get their greedy little white fingers in it is when things go all to heck.

joe   August 11th, 2009 - 2:47 pm

Obama lied my typical white grandma died.

La-la-la-la-la   August 11th, 2009 - 2:48 pm

Really?? And the Post Office is run by whom???? You go so far to even admit it is not working, and you want to take over our health care? Are you out of your freaking mind??

yo   August 11th, 2009 - 2:56 pm

Anexio sorry I can’t tell if it is sarcasm or you are a complete idiot. #1 The federal reserve is a private bank. #2 The FAA does not run a business, they are regulators. #3 Schools what is the inner city graduation rate 40%? What came first short man’s disease or the short man?

Dave   August 11th, 2009 - 2:57 pm

Do you think when he got done saying that a light bulb went of in his head, and he thought “Oh crap. Ayn Rand was right!”

Its his own words, he must understand the lunacy of it. Also Im sure that fed-ex and ups would love to have a chance at the monopoly the post office controls through law of letter delivery.

   August 11th, 2009 - 2:58 pm

He thinks this won’t require tax dollars? If it was profitable to do what he wants, they wouldn’t need the government to do it! Geez! This guy can’t keep his story straight.

The 5 Billion that they are spending on Taxpayer Debit for Clunkers could of fixed the Postal Service. Obama threw postal workers under the bus. My mail service is probably the best thing the Fed’s provide.

No wonder the Post Office is losing money, Mr President. Among other reasons, they give away shipping boxes.
Fed Ex and UPS have to charge for theirs. And what about junk mail subsidy, hmmmm??? The saying “The Emperor has
no clothes” comes to mind. And he thinks the Feds can run healthcare without damaging the private sector?? He’s crazy !!

Dr. Chicago   August 11th, 2009 - 3:09 pm

I never stand in line at the Post Office, with it’s 5 counters and one employee. The Post Office never raises it rates. It is staffed by competent, caring people who always deliver my mail on time, and never lose anything.

And when I cough, monkeys fly out of my a$$.

Been there: ANYTHING the government runs, they screw up. They are not capable of running ANYTHING well. Hello?? Anyone home?? Doh! It is not their job to provide health care.

Don   August 11th, 2009 - 3:16 pm

My main contention with this plan is that it was being rushed through congress without any real debate and most of the members did not read it or understand it. But this is a good answer. If taxpayer subsidies are not used to buoy up ObamaCare, than it will collapse in the face of private insurance. So eliminate everything in the Bill which also subsidizes this option by forcing all other private plans to conform to it by 2013 and then again in 2018.

dontflagmebro   August 11th, 2009 - 3:20 pm

The post office would not have a problem if the CARS money went to them instead.

Barack Onomics   August 11th, 2009 - 3:20 pm

I rest my case.

PhoneBill   August 11th, 2009 - 3:21 pm

“…as long as it’s not subsided by the government and we keep having to pony out more money.” Ummmm, like the post office? It takes him less than 3 sentences to contradict himself. Classic fail.

colt451911   August 11th, 2009 - 3:21 pm

Anexio! Thank you for a good belly laugh!

Dave   August 11th, 2009 - 3:22 pm

Every time the Post office is short of money, they raise the cost of stamps.

Every time Private companies need to sell more they lower their costs.

Get it Obama? Get it yet?

Maybe if he would have had a real job in his life where he earned something then he would understand. That making money is not evil. It is the only system that allows for Good.

kmichaels   August 11th, 2009 - 3:28 pm

UPS and Fed Ex are doing fine because they got into that part of the business that they could squeeze into. The US postal service still has LOUSY service and still gets the bulk of certain business and is still MORE EXPENSIVE than it needs to be. It is losing money and the US taxpayer ends up making up for their loss. And how long as the US postal service held their monopoly before UPS and Fed Ex did well? History shows that the monopoly of the US postal service has lasted for decades upon decades. Government monopolies can be broken, but only when the massed understand that there is a choice and that the private companies compete in areas that are finally legal to compete in. And finally, they end up succeeding against all odds and against the monopoly. How much better would the service been had the government not been a stumbling block for so many decades?

kmichaels   August 11th, 2009 - 3:29 pm

BTW anexio, shut the hell up you looney leftist moron. You are a bad liar. Practice hard. Then you can become a not so bad but still really bad liar like Obama. You two morons deserve each other. You are both worthless counterproductive self-serving fools.

Talen (continued)   August 11th, 2009 - 3:30 pm

Oooh, I see what he was trying to get at. The competition part of it. He’s trying to say that the private sector (UPS & Fed Ex) can compete with a government entity (USPS), and in using the example saying that USP and FEDex is doing much better than the USPS.

The problem is, that’s assuming there will be a private sector to the health care industry, which the current HR bill shows will not be the case.

What would our shipping options look like if there were new provisions that stated if your current contract changes in any way with your private carrier, then it’s null & void, and you must use the USPS for all your future shipping needs.

Let’s compare apples to apples please.

The USPS has problems because it’s a business…period! And, there are alot of businesses suffering right now.

For all practical purposes, the USPS is a privately run, non-profit organization.

Does the USPS have a bureaucratic mindset? Sure. Are there Federal rules and laws they have to go by? Yes. And, many, many of it’s employees are UNIONIZED. But, the USPS is not a tax payer funded business. Except for the goods and services you pay for out of pocket at their counter, we as tax payers don’t pay for the USPS. It does not get tax dollars for current, ongoing business. The USPS earns the money it uses to run the business from the goods and services it provides.

(There are some tax dollars going to pay an old Civil Service retirement plan that was discontinued YEARS ago…and a good bet would be that pool of retirees is QUICKLY shrinking.)

So, if the USPS raises its rates (which it’s fixing to do again), then it’s only doing it to stay in business.

adm   August 11th, 2009 - 4:35 pm

UPS and FedEx are doing fine. It’s the Post Office and the (government run) SENATE DINING ROOM that are always having problems. They all eat in the HOUSE DINING ROOM that is privately run and where the food is EDIBLE! Even Senator Dianne Feinstein said “WE MUST PRIVATIZE THIS”!

The post office can’t compete with fedex or ups on package deliveries where they don’t have the monopoly so it raises its rates on 1st class mail to give them an unfair advantage…

John Galt   August 11th, 2009 - 5:02 pm

Geez, Obama is epic dumb. Of course, when you watch the videos where he tries to “explain” things, you can tell he’s out of his depth. Just really clueless, and that’s because he hasn’t had the right job experience to be in where he is currently. It’s not much different with Congress — only they have found a way to sustain their greedy selves by muddying the waters of every issue until their far-too-busy constituents’ heads are spinning. Ask yourself: Who exactly are attracted to these government positions? Not the best, not the brightest. Most of those are out building businesses and involved in philanthropy, not mired in the mind-numbing nonsense of politics. Our government is a beast that needs to crash under its own weight. We need to starve it by not feeding it, John Galt style.

Need i say more. did someone say about the success of public schools. You really got to be kidding. And you actually think they are getting better. Anyone who graduated in the 1960’s or 70’s from high school looks at today’s schools and shakes their heads. Government MONOPOLY always means waste. Waste always means either higher cost, or lower product quality. There is no in between.

Bill   August 11th, 2009 - 5:04 pm

Government run health care IS the Post office with a stethoscope around it’s neck. How fitting….

YukYuk   August 11th, 2009 - 5:05 pm

I work at a government facility, with all the AAAA imbeciles & defectives they hire, the waste, and endemic laziness, they couldn’t run a train set let alone the post office or health care. What a joke this country has become, with our first AAAA president.

AAAA = Affirmative Action African Americant

Obama stated that the Govt was making duplicate payments to private insurance companies from Medicare in the amount of $370 million or so…and this is how he plans on funding some of the increased cost to insure more folks.

JUST A THOUGHT….BUT IF THOSE PAYMENTS ARE NOT REQUIRED. WHY NOT STOP THEM NOW????

WHY WAIT??? SAVE THE DAMN MONEY AND STOP IT NOW??? IF HE TELLS THE TRUTH, THEN IMPLEMENT IMMEDIATE COST REDUCTION….NO ONE IS HURT BUT THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND HE HAS MADE THEM THE DEMON/DEVIL/EVIL PEOPLE ANYWAY.

DriveByIntellect   August 11th, 2009 - 5:06 pm

The USPS delivers more mail in one day than FedEx and UPS do combined in a year, and it’s a lot cheaper than the private courier companies. But they’re still in business. It’s a decent analogy to make. Another is imagining if nearly 50 million Americans were told that they didn’t have “Education Insurance” and so they couldn’t send their kids to school. But private schools are still in business, right? Why is public education a more important right than public healthcare? And what is so scary about having a reasoned conversation about this instead of talking about “death panels” and “Washington trying to rush a bill through Congress?” When you scream and say nasty things about the President, you don’t sound patriotic. You sound afraid of logic.

Taylor   August 11th, 2009 - 5:07 pm

That must be one of the biggest gaffes I have seen from Obama. The US Post Office has a complete monopoly, by law, for mail. UPS delivers packages, not mail. FedEx is an overnight courier service, not mail. Neither compete with the USPS for first class mail because that would be against the law.

Remember, folks. Americans are agile and creative and productive. We can outthink the government on this. Starve the beast and it will die. Our government can’t compel us to work — and we can be productive in ways other than making money. They can only come after our money via taxes. They can’t compel us to work — that’s slavery. So, if we go into economic hibernation, we’ll rid ourselves of the greedy lot in Washington — those leeches won’t stick around, but will migrate to other hosts. The government will atrophy, and when things are healthier again, we can reemerge, financially productive. The only way to pull this off is to pay off debt, asap, then live well below your means. Those during the Great Depression made it, so can we.

There must be catch to what he is saying. Gibbs will make some story about how great the Government Post Office is. You wait.

I’ll give you all a real example of the Post Office. My company has a Business Reply mail. We pay for that service. The person in our Post Office who handles all of our Business Reply mail is on vacation for two weeks, returning 8/18/09. Now, all of my Business Reply mail just stops, not to return until they return. Boy if I ran my business that way, I would be out of business. That is exactly my point. There is ZERO accountability in Government Run Anything! ZERO. So you just wait for the Healthcare Pelosi, Reed, and Obama are going to give us.

I better start working out more, that will be my only chance.

ANEXIO, you are truly nuts. You have backwards, the federal Goverment does not run anything well. Look at social security, medicare, medicade, community reinvestment act, Amtrak just to name a few. All of these programs by the way were started by democrats and should have been eliminated by the republicans when they had a chance. You are living in a cave!
