Obama in ‘03 (Uncut): I’d Like to See a ‘Single Payer Health Care Plan’

“I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care program. I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its Gross National Product on health care cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody. And that’s what Jim is talking about when he says everybody in, nobody out. A single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. And that’s what I’d like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House.”

Well the choir appreciates the attempt but the kool aid gulpers will never believe it. Some of you are very sad in your blindness to what is being done to ALL of us by a select few who could care less about ANY OF US regardless of color or who you voted for.

poetopoet   August 4th, 2009 - 12:05 pm

This is not a racial or a ration issue. At what cost to your mama and papa, even you will be denied hip replacement, etc, etc? Will Obama’s plan deny crack babies care over you at any of today’s cost? Today estimated at two million dollars for three months of hospital care, per crack. Two 2 billion dollars in 1992, in today’s dollars?

‘Crack babies’ catch up

By DANA KENNEDY, The Associated Press, 12/6/92

“The first wave of crack-exposed children entered first and second grades in New York City this fall, a year after one state report estimated the cost of special care for them could total $2 billion over the next 15 years. Harlem Hospital researchers estimated that the cost of caring for crack babies costs the country $500 million a year. Such statistics have fed the kind of fear that led Ross Perot to invoke the dread specter of “crack babies” during the first presidential debate.
“Again and again and again, the mother disappears in three days and the child becomes a ward of the state because he’s permanently and genetically damaged,” Perot said. “

What context, Scott? He says he’s for single payer, but they won’t get there immediately because first they have to take back the House, Senate, and White House. Well, they have. Now they can get there. So, what’s the difference?

CC's Wife   August 4th, 2009 - 12:08 pm

The White House is fighting back. Drudge and Breitbart are the evil villains of the week! Let’s see so far the villains have been gun owners, bible clingers, Bush, Cheney, Limbaugh, big oil, the military, fire fighters, police, big pharma, doctors, the evil insurance companies. Who will next week’s villain be?

Jesse   August 4th, 2009 - 12:19 pm

54 seconds is cut. Uncut would be the whole speech. What is it that you didn’t want us to see? And from 2003. 6 years ago. You couldn’t find anything more recent than that? This issue of healthcare is very important, and I am extremely uneasy about it, but the conspiracy theories about obama trying to trick us into something that will make the US burn in hell are ridiculous. We should be having a dialogue about what is actually being proposed, in the house and senate, and its downfalls or merits, not taking clips from ‘03 and pretending that they are the legislation currently being proposed.

Babalooey   August 4th, 2009 - 12:21 pm

There’s a bigger issue at stake here! FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Obama has the NET POLICE out in force. Any words of dissension will be viciously attacked and ridiculed.
The US is turning into a dictatorship.

Markd4lyph   August 4th, 2009 - 12:22 pm

This is perfect. The first wave was a release of the minimal clip. Then wait for the White House spin doctors to claim its out of context. Then release the entire statement in context and make the spin doctors into liars. Excellent

I agree. So why was Obama intent on rushing through the legislation? If it weren’t for the Blue Dogs, the vote would have already happened, absent the dialogue you say is so important.

BrentW   August 4th, 2009 - 12:36 pm

I sent E-mails to both of my senators (Boxer and Feinstein) asking if they will accept the same health care plan that they are pushing on the public. I usually get a response from at least one of them on issues. No respose this time.

For those of you that are to young to remember WWII and the rise of the Nazi party in Germany, I recomend that you study some history of the times.
Hitler came to power promising everything to the people and he needed a scape goat to blame all the countries problems on. Enter the Jews and the “Final solution”.
Obama care is a chip off this block. If you are 65 or older, you are not worth government paid medical treatment. Die and free more money for your Democrat party to spend. If you’re 45-55 think long and hard if you want the government telling you that you can live or die. This is the “Democrat solution and the “senior citizen” as the scape goat. HEIL OBAMA!

BJC   August 4th, 2009 - 12:40 pm

Yeah, we believe you lady??? I’ll believe the video with Obama speaking with his own mouth. Like he said, it might take 10-15 years to implimate his plan to remove employer insurance but that is his GOAL. Next time play the tape and explain his words for him as they come out of his lying thuggish mouth.

Oh, don’t put to much into the last few words of my comment, it was JUST a few words put together to make it sound harsh! I surely didn’t mean them??

If the White House asserts that the statements are out of context, why don’t they release what they consider the full context? Those of you defending Obama and decrying the editing and context, why don’t you post the full video of all these moments. I love revisionists. It’s exactly like saying Obama didn’t call the Cambridge Police “stupid”, he just said they acted “stupidLY”. See? Two letters difference right? Jedi mind-tricks only work in movies.

Instead, they trot out this arrogant communications director to wag her finger at us with unrelated clips bearing the same trite little sound bites like “if you’re happy, keep it” – Obama telling us what’s in a bill he hasn’t even fully read. We don’t even need his words to understand what’s in the bill. We can read it for ourselves. It’s full of regulations that spell out the end of private insurance. All you book clubbers should make the Health Care “Choices” bill required reading. Read it.

Eric Robinson   August 4th, 2009 - 12:45 pm

I can’t wait to see how the White House Interns, over at MSNBC and CNN try to convince the American people Obama isn’t actually saying what he’s saying. “New Speak”? “1989″? Orwell? ‘Anyone paying attention?

CV   August 4th, 2009 - 12:45 pm

Why are those who support Obama unable to see that he wants a single payer plan for this country? I mean how many times does Obama have to say that he wants this option if not now over time. When Obama is off script and the teleprompter is not there he speaks his mind and his mind say he want total control over your health care decisions.

Tax revenue is the problem! LOL

ALL OF THIS WILL CREATE THE CRISES THE GOVERNMENT WANTS!!!

Did I mention that the government is very, very, STUPID

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_plummeting_taxes

WASHINGTON – The recession is starving the government of tax revenue, just as the president and Congress are piling a major expansion of health care and other programs on the nation’s plate and struggling to find money to pay the tab.

The numbers could hardly be more stark: Tax receipts are on pace to drop 18 percent this year, the biggest single-year decline since the Great Depression, while the federal deficit balloons to a record $1.8 trillion.

Other figures in an Associated Press analysis underscore the recession’s impact: Individual income tax receipts are down 22 percent from a year ago. Corporate income taxes are down 57 percent. Social Security tax receipts could drop for only the second time since 1940, and Medicare taxes are on pace to drop for only the third time ever.

The last time the government’s revenues were this bleak, the year was 1932 in the midst of the Depression.

Obama needs to quit backpedaling and just come clean with America. He wan’t to control yet another industry in this country, plain and simple. This will get screwed up just like Social Security and Medicare. I’m so sick of this jackass!

SomeGuy   August 4th, 2009 - 1:18 pm

Its easy to come to the conclusion that we are being “tricked” into this health care plan. We’ve quickly forgotten the whole weapons of mass destruction. Bush sold us WMD in Iraq and a connection to Al Queda as a reason to invade Iraq.

Now we are getting this sales pitch from Obama that the Government will be able to run health insurance better than private industries. What if the gov’t can’t and we end up with another Medicare? How are we supposed to go back?

Oh dear,Obama caught out lying again!

Brian   August 4th, 2009 - 1:20 pm

Obama and his Liberals are patient. While ACORN and the union thugs want single-payer socialism right now, Obama is shrewd. If he can get the public option inserted into the final healthcare legislation in the House/Senate conferees mark-up, it will be a matter of time before a substantial number of Americans are forced into the public healthcare option of the insurance exchange. That, combined with oppressive taxes on small businesses, which make up a substantial amount of employment in America, will force 40 percent or more of the American public into the public insurance option.

And when that happens, the private health insurance industry will simply implode.

First, you will see a wave of mergers and consolidations by insurers, as the small are forced to be swallowed by the giants. Then, you will see massive losses as the giants lose vast numbers of members to the private plan. Then, you will see insurers simply exiting health insurance altogether, and ceasing to write policies. (They will move to property and casualty insurance, which will cause yet another wave of consolidations in that insurance line of business.)

Within five to ten years, you will see a de facto move to a single-payer, government-run health insurance enterprise. By default. And Obama knows this.

It is devious and evil. And it WILL happen. The result is that over one MILLION people working in the private insurance industry will lose their jobs. That is more than the auto industry.

Remember my words.

republ239   August 4th, 2009 - 1:20 pm

The fear in these comments is a bit wacky! Anyone that supports the president is a mindless robot? Haha, the drudge reading, fox watching, folks are completely informed and not being brainwashed daily by crazy conspiracy theory after conspiracy theory. This is why republicans have lost all hope of reclaiming the government anytime soon. It really is sad that the republican tradition has been lowered to this level of discourse.

Benny   August 4th, 2009 - 1:22 pm

I have an idea…
For our congressional leaders to vote for a bill they need to be able to pass a multiple choice question test about the bill… one question from every 10 pages of the bill would probably be sufficient. Their vote can only count as a “yea” if they score better than 85%… if they can’t pass the test – their vote will be forfeited … and a report card on how they do for their entire term will be published. These libs are just following the bouncy ball – so enamoured, acting quite stupidly if you asked me…

SilasPorter   August 4th, 2009 - 1:24 pm

Well, it looks like I’ve found another site for red-neck, ignorance. No one on here can actually debate the policy of a single-payer health care system. All they do is rip on Obama, calling him, of all things, evil. Evil!? Because he believes something you don’t. He’s evil? Isn’t that what the jihadists believe? Isn’t that what the crusaders believed? Isn’t that what the Kosovo conflict was all about? When will you dogmatic, WASPers realize your own folly?

And why do you beat the drum of the U.S. corporation so relentlessly? Do you really believe that by giving your voice to the profit-making corporation, you are securing for yourself even more freedom? Really?

Do you understand these corporations—the media, health insurance, financial corporations—have merged and merged more and merged more to become even more power, to control even more of the market share, to control pricing and quality even more and there is nothing you can do about it. You can’t vote them out. They don’t listen to or care about poll numbers. All they care about is money. And if you doubt that, please, just take a look at our current economy.

Greed is not always good.

But you insist on the same type of thinking—wild generalizations and blame for your troubles—that have gotten so many societies in trouble. The government can’t do anything right. The government sucks. You don’t want the government involved. They mess up everything.
Yes, I know the whole DMV thing, that favorite example of government frustration. But what about our National Parks? Have you been to one recently. I’d say they’ve done a much better job of managing public land than say, Ledcor or any other corporation.

I don’t even know why I try. And to think I used to think like one of you. The thought of it makes me shiver.

Rich   August 4th, 2009 - 1:25 pm

Totally out of context! He probably wasn’t even talking about health insurance. Obama would never be for that. He said so.

Chris   August 4th, 2009 - 1:26 pm

Socialism here we come…..

This will lower the quality of care in the US by leaps and bounds. And costs will continue to skyrocket as malpractice lawsuits continue to be abused.

E.L.Lavender   August 4th, 2009 - 1:26 pm

The United States is the only high-income industrialized country in the world that does not have some version of public health care for the entire nation.

A recent Harvard University study found that medical bills are a leading cause of bankruptcy in the United States. The study found that many declaring bankruptcy were part of the middle class and were employed before they became ill, but had lost their health insurance by the time they declared bankruptcy and that about 2 million Americans live in families that have experienced medical bankruptcy.

Never mind all that sh*t,write your congress person and tell them you
want all single payer bull sh*t in this country to stop right away.
Like the health care for congress, medicaid, medicare and care for the military.
Write them and tell them you wont that sh*t stopped right now.

Volume 1 of Mein Kampf was published in 1925 and Volume 2 in 1926. Hitler’s book outlined all his dreams to enslave or extinguish a race. Hitler came into power in 1933 and remained till he shot himself in 1945. It took him 8 years from his first publication to enact his evil plan. What Obama says in 2003 is very relevant to what he will do today. All the speeches during the campaign are the least relevant.

I miss the good old days of politicians weasel-wording… now they just boldface lie. Its the same as Gibbs coming out and sayiong he didn’t call the police stupid. SHUT UP we heard him. They sound like my 4 year old trying to explain to me she didn’t use the whipped cream, while she is standing there copvered in it. And what is really sad, is the media and many of the party people follow them.

GoodForGoose   August 4th, 2009 - 1:32 pm

If the President, Congress, and the rest of the clowns in D.C. feel that this is such a great idea, why don’t they step up
and demonstrate? Forego the “golden” health care plans that “American royalty” gets and agree to be legally bound by the
same terms and conditions as the rest of the American people will be under this new health care system. Ahem…in writing,
please.

And when the rationing starts (which it inevitably will), they must agree to be the first ones to be denied coverage.

There. That seems fair. And why would they refuse, if everything is as rosy as they’d have us believe?

And one more thing…no free Botox/nips/tucks for Nancy or Biden. :)

Geez…why is it these pathetic libs always revert back to their BDS as their only comeback?? Thanks, Breitbart for posting this – in it’s entirety – so the whiney libs can’t say it was cut and pasted by the “right wing” conspiracy theorists!! You’re doing the job the drive-by, Obamamedia won’t do. Warning, tho; Watch your kneecaps and hope you don’t receive any dead fish packages.

The missing 3 minutes:
“I was for a single-payer health care system before I was against a single payer health care system.”

OK, let’s all sit back and watch how the left-wing media spins the meaning of the full clip!

I can’t wait to see how they spin this attention to his real intent is as fear mongering, or hate speach or some other chicagoland style retaliation.

To Jesse

How many times would you like to here him say it? I guess you didn’t here
about speading the wealth around. I’am sorry, I forgot that was Bush’s fault.

Obama = Clunker   August 4th, 2009 - 1:36 pm

Obama’s legacy is being formed with 2 key words so far.. “Clunkers and Bailouts”. it is so fitting

What’s next? Single Payer Funerals?

This administration is causing a lot of change…if you want to know who is really behind the administration’s plan, simply find out who has the most to gain, financially. Time tested and still works today…”Follow the Money”

The more I see my neighbor’s (nationally) losing their jobs and their homes, the more of an ahole I see this guy is. I didn’t vote for him, I don’t believe a word he says, and we would have been MUCH better off with McCain elected, because maybe he WOULD have died and then we would have had Sarah Palin. Hopefully the close minded republicans among us will see that she has MUCH more experience than this impostor (HE IS NOT AFRICAN AMERICAN), and give her a chance! Change we can believe in? Yeah, it is REAL easy to believe that he can screw up the US!

Mike in FL   August 4th, 2009 - 1:42 pm

Its time to vote new representation in DC. Both houses of Congress, the White House,
the whole lot that we can vote on – kick them out!!
We need to get back to representatives that have worked in the private sector,
we need term limits, we need REPRESENTATION!
VOTE THEM ALL OUT!

FuzzyPickle   August 4th, 2009 - 1:42 pm

They depth of outright dishonesty by this administration is a slap in the face to the America people. The media (excluding Breitbart, of course!) are struggling to find every creative way possible to cover for the Obama administration, but the lies and deceit are becoming so open and so frequently that the media is simply running out of ideas.

This is just flat out right sad. These people (democrats) actually view Americans with so much contempt, that they believe “we” are stupid enough to just take their word, or, as in this case, “not take their word.” Such blatant disrespect for the American people, to be so openly dishonest and then deny it.

I recently read that one alcoholic drink per day actually has a number of positive health effects. So in addition to
publicly-funded theraputic massage, mental health counseling, and abortions, free beer should be included in the health
care reform legislation. After all, it’s about a happy and healthier America, right?

Oops. Never mind. Forgive me, I get confused sometimes. It’s really about buying votes with other peoples’ money.

ChuckyCheese1   August 4th, 2009 - 1:46 pm

Obama did NOT prove he was born in America before the election… it is time to impeach! (LOL… go ahead brownshirts and try to marginalize me, you will NEVER hear the end of THIS issue either until Obama is disgraced and his legacy remains as a usurper of the Constitution and thus an enemy of our founding fathers)…. Brownshirts following a Redcoat! The British aren’t coming… they’re already in the White House and the U.S.A. is under control of a foreign king again.

To quote an earlier post: Rick Tret August 4th, 2009 – 12:13 pm
Obama has NEVER had a close relationship with the truth.” Rick, you are soooooo right. However, you need to add that Obama has NEVER had a close relationship with the reality of 99+% of Americans!!! The man is drop-dead naieve, a fool, ignorant … or all three. Maybe ad delusional too.

sickofitall   August 4th, 2009 - 1:55 pm

My god. What have we allowed into our White House? How could we have let this man into office? He, and his administration, is destroying he United States.
We NEED to stand up and be heard. We NEED to stop this. This is not a joke anymore.
I am truly concerned for our future.
