A true and complete idiot. Talk about a great example of progressive dictatorship. Mr. Ortiz, the consumer already HAS a choice (for now) — DON’T EAT IN A RESTAURANT IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEIR FOOD!! Jerk.

john   March 11th, 2010 - 6:30 pm

If we can ban salt, how come we can’t ban Marxists?

Wanda   March 11th, 2010 - 6:34 pm

People are nuts , Dont think I would want to eat at a resturant that couldnt serve you salt or get fined . Felix should just keep track of his own family leave mine alone he is not my keeper!!!!

jujubee   March 11th, 2010 - 6:38 pm

I wonder if this guy would approve of legislation against the unnatural and unhealthy act of sodomy in homosexuality or sodomy in general?

However, I’m sure he wouldn’t dare take that choice away from people.

Belus   March 11th, 2010 - 6:38 pm

How can people vote an idiot like this into office. BTW, this has nothing to do with health. Its all about fines or taxes, what ever you want to call it.

?????????????   March 11th, 2010 - 6:40 pm

Check that asshole’s green card. No salt, come on, food would taste like shit. Lets regulate stupid politicians. He can’t even speak english.

Wanda   March 11th, 2010 - 6:42 pm

Snailmailtrucker   March 11th, 2010 - 6:42 pm

Why don’t they outlaw some of the things that are really dangerous to us, like:

Obama
Biden
Pelosi
Reid
Frank
Dodd
Kerr
etc. etc. etc.
and stay away from the stupid things that they do outlaw!

txmike   March 11th, 2010 - 6:43 pm

Felix Ortiz is a hazard to the freedoms of Americans and as a result he should not be re elected.

Eric T.   March 11th, 2010 - 6:49 pm

So his dad has hypertension and he feels we ALL need a salt restriction? He needs to mind his own business. I love salt. I don’t have high blood pressure. I love it so much I visited a 7,000 year old salt mine in Europe. They found a body from 300 BC buried and perfectly preserved in the salt. Salt was used for food preservation. It saved lives. Now it’s such a killer, we need a law to protect us from it? This guys is a nutcase.

fastfacts   March 11th, 2010 - 7:25 pm

They try to make us more healthy through these regulations but it looks like, smells like, and feels like prohibition. It may not be the best for us but it is our freedom and its better than alcohol but you made that legal once more.

Steve   March 11th, 2010 - 7:42 pm

Gee I’m sorry this guys dad had a hat attack, I rarely even ware hats so what does this have to do with salt??? we should look at outlawing hats I have been trying to open peoples eyes to the danger of hats for years, thank god someone has come along to bring this to the attention of the American people I think he should redirect his effort from salt to the hat wearing BAST#&@DS of New York !!!

Eddie   March 11th, 2010 - 7:55 pm

The only reason people like this idiot are still around is because it’s still illegal to do away with them. Hmmm, wonder if he owns stock in a “salt substitute” company?

Can't the Father Find a Home Cooked Meal   March 11th, 2010 - 7:58 pm

Let me get this straight.

The idiot’s father had a hat attack caused, supposedly, by salt intake.

The idiot’s father did not arrive from Puerto Rico until what, 1990?

Therefore since the idiot’s father consumed most of his lifetime salt intake in Puerto Rico, the idiot should logically take his salt war and his infringement on my freedom, to San Juan. Si?

He should also tell his mother to learn how to cook!

Rick   March 11th, 2010 - 8:07 pm

This guy should read his own bill or at least tell the truth.

The text of the bill reads

NO OWNER OR OPERATOR OF A RESTAURANT IN THIS STATE SHALL USE SALT IN ANY FORM IN THE PREPARATION OF ANY FOOD FOR CONSUMPTION BY CUSTOMERS OF SUCH RESTAURANT, INCLUDING FOOD PREPARED TO BE CONSUMED ON THE PREMISES OF SUCH RESTAURANT OR OFF OF SUCH PREMISES.

Read it here:

Guest   March 11th, 2010 - 8:09 pm

Seriously, there are people with low blood pressure who need salt. Will they need a doctor’s order or prescription in the Nanny State of Gnu Yawk if this is passed?
Will this bill prevent people from swimming in the Ocean? Heaven knows it’s full of that evil NaCl stuff.
Obama is trying to ban fishing. Is this all part of some grand progressive agenda? Of course it is. Satan, the original progressive, won’t stop until he owns everyone who takes the mark. It all began many years ago in Eden, when Satan was disguised as a snake. SSSSSS

huckle   March 11th, 2010 - 8:12 pm

The Fed is soon going to try to regulate fishing. Don’t believe me, go to this ESPN link. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/saltwater/news/story?id=4975762

Lisa B.   March 12th, 2010 - 6:21 am

Only a freaking idiot would ban salt. Is this moron now going to bad adding salt to processed foods?? Moron…

motley   March 12th, 2010 - 7:30 am

Why does the body need salt? Why do Americans need salt? Without the trace iodine added to salt. most Americans would develop hypothyroidism. Many, many Americans do not even purchase salt to have in their homes; don’t cook with at all. The only source of iodine is from foods cooked with salt when they eat out.
There are two types of medicine to treat hypothyroidism; synthroid and generic forms of it and Armour, which is from pigs (yeah, gross). The difference between the two meds is Synthoid eventually causes any functioning thyroid one may have left to shrivel up and no longer have any activity. With synthroid you are on medicine the rest of your life. Armour, on the other hand, works with the underworking thyroid, helping it to work and become stronger. If you stop Armour, you still have some working thyroid left to work with. Ironically, recently Armour has ceased production. This was after many years of battle against the government and the manufacturers of synthroid. Just think, if the government controls health care, they control your syntroid. A non-functioning thyroid makes one tired, unmotivated, sluggish, etc. Hmmmmm. There are benefits to a controlled society not to have iodized salt and not to be able to get medicine when needed or just enough to keep one productive but too dragged out for involvement in much else. It would be interesting to see if any group of people fought against iodine. being added to salt.

rick   March 12th, 2010 - 7:48 am

THATS WHAT HEALTH CARE WILL BE ALL ABOUT,BANNING EVERYTHING BECAUSE YOU WILL COST THE GOVERNMENT TOO
MUCH. WELCOME TO AMERIKKA.

Wanda   March 12th, 2010 - 11:06 am

Whos going to save use from the health care they want to pass if you are to old for operations they will give you a pill and the death talk hmmm wonder if theres salt in those pills????

Gimmie a big Mac with extra fries! Oh...and can I have some more salt, please!   March 12th, 2010 - 12:50 pm

Hey, idiot people, salt is a major contributing factor for high blood pressure as well as a number of other chronic illnesses like kidney problems. Restaurants and bars purposely spike their food with abnormally high amounts of salt to increase your thirst level so that you morons will buy more beverages. Duh!!!!

The recommended daily intake for salt is 2400 milligrams. Just for kicks, try to achieve that one day and see how hard it is when everything that you buy is loaded with the stuff.

You dopes all are squawking about health care reform. “I want to eat my high fat, high salt diet and I want cheap insurance, too”. Well, folks, it’s not going to happen.

Justine   March 12th, 2010 - 9:50 pm

Hey Gimmie a Big Mac – Please let us all know what chronic health problems and kidney problems are a result of eating too much salt. I’d love to be enlightened. Give me the names of the diseases, and/or health problems, besides hypertension in some salt sensitive individuals, that are caused by eating salt.

There are a lot of people allergic to dogs and cats to the point that it can kill them. Should we pass a law and make it illegal to own a cat or dog to protect those people? There are many children that are allergic to peanuts and can have a severe life threatening reaction to even the smallest amount. Should we pass a law to stop the sale of peanut products to protect them? I can go on.

Where does it stop? At what point are you responsible for yourself and your health problems?

Hey! Where's my Big Mac and extra fries?   March 13th, 2010 - 11:26 am

The consequences of hypertension alone cause a multitude of problems. You make it sound trivial. Your straw man argument about pets is nonsense and illogical. The peanut argument is valid and many schools now ban peanut butter and similar products from their areas to protect children who have severe allergies. The fact is that many kids are not responsible.

This is not about your responsibilities; it is about restaurants and bars purposely adding extra salt to their menus. If you go out you can choose to not eat, but then what is the purpose of going out?
