NJ Teacher Tells Girl to Put Away Bible

WNYW: A teacher at the Madison Park Elementary School in Old Bridge, N.J., told a 3rd grader that the Bible was not appropriate reading material for quiet time, and ordered the girl to put the book away, according to the girl's parents.

We get our rights from God. The liberals must secularize America in order to control it.

BTW: An appology “is” enough. Let it be ma’am.

ksristy   December 16th, 2009 - 7:40 am

James K. If we just keep accepting apologies, we will continue to lose our rights. I am not a person who believes in lawsuits, but when you have the ACLU fighting to keep Christianity out of our culture, you have to be proactive and just as vocal as they are. I am agnostic, but I see the hate directed toward Christianity and it needs to be stopped.

rover   December 16th, 2009 - 7:46 am

It is long past time we take our country back. Is the teacher locked up yet? If not that is a shame.

FREADOM   December 16th, 2009 - 7:56 am

These same enlightened ones despise book burning, go figure.

James K   December 16th, 2009 - 8:36 am

Superintendent said it was “a mistake and apologized.” All wrongs were made right. What else is there here?

Which “right” was lost here? Life? Liberty? Persuit of Happiness? The only one you can argue is liberty, but the courts have shown that is lost whenever you are “subjected” to an educational institution. Even then you don’t loose the right(under liberty) to read the Bible, you loose the right to read the Bible “while in school”.

“I see the hate directed toward Christianity and it needs to be stopped.” To bad you or I can’t do anything about that. Jesus was hated and said that all those who will follow Him will also be hated.

conservativeandproud   December 16th, 2009 - 8:37 am

I hope she sues the district for every red penny. Hit them where it counts. This teacher should be suspended for the rest of the year without pay, then transfered out of the district.

temple62   December 16th, 2009 - 8:38 am

Teachers have ceased to a positive influence on students. We need more parents to guide the teachers in systems like these that have failed our country.

Colascguy   December 16th, 2009 - 8:42 am

James K.

You are certainly correct about being hated. I see the hatred growing as well. Look at how are current president invites Muslims in to the white house for a day of prayer but cancels christian events.

woody   December 16th, 2009 - 8:56 am

This is why ALL Christian parents should NOT send their children to public schools until high school. It it the parent’s RESPONSIBILITY to give their child values. If done well, when the child is of high school age, they are more mature and responsible than the average secular student and it is time to let their light shine!

O'Really?   December 16th, 2009 - 8:56 am

And you guys don’t “hate” Muslims, do you? Riiiiiiight!

Hypocrites!

Desiree   December 16th, 2009 - 9:20 am

This teacher telling a third grader that the bible is “not appropriate reading material” is asinine. What material does this teacher believe is appropriate? All
parents and taxpayers need to be concerned with what our children are taught in the public schools. Our tax dollars are paying for this public education. I do
not want our children indoctrinted with liberal, marxist ideas. It is our duty to know what is going on in our public schools. This teacher should be
suspended. An apology is not enough. This teacher should be sensitive to all students, including Christian students. Maybe a sensitity course is in order here. I
Isn’t that what the liberals usually call for in situations such as this?????????

m miller   December 16th, 2009 - 9:28 am

Yes. Do seek legal counseling.

claspur   December 16th, 2009 - 9:31 am

This is an injustice, is exactly what it is.

The major problem is, this is happening across this nations’ public school systems.

Go ask the administrations across Massechucetts. They’ll tell you They’re too busy to discuss that issue, because of their indoctrination programs of the children into alternative sexual lifestyles are their main concern right now.

Parents should buy Qur’ans, send their kids to school with them for a week, seeing if THEY’d make a peep about those books? (bet not) :o /

tiredofit2010   December 16th, 2009 - 9:34 am

the teacher needs to fired tenure not withstanding….I would guess this teacher would consider the sex books currently making the rounds would be appropriate though??

Home school your kids if you can, take them out of the government indoctrination and put them in private schools if possible as well….

claspur   December 16th, 2009 - 9:36 am

What did I say wrong this time, BORTbort?
Too opinionated again?

Your screeners are nuts, Andrew….. and if you support what they are doing, you are too.

You are nothing better than what WE are against in here… censorship.

O'Really?   December 16th, 2009 - 10:00 am

You know…claspur has a point. The Fairness Doctrine is brought up constantly as an example of censorship by this site and yet they often censor posts with the “Your comment is awaiting moderation” death sentence. Most of these postings have no “foul language” and I know this because a number of mine have been rejected for using words that sound or look like “bad” words. Why not just open it up and let people say what they want without any “moderation”. I will probably disagree with claspur (again) but certainly would like to see what he has to say.

Richard Sanitizer   December 16th, 2009 - 10:03 am

If she told my child that I would be at the school and have a face to face with her. I guess the KORAN would be alright but not the “Bible.” Thank you Liberals for all you have done to our country. God will have his revenge.

ChuckyCheese1   December 16th, 2009 - 10:04 am

O’Really?, actually Muslims have more respect for Jesus than liberals do, and their code of ethics is more similar to traditional Judeo-Christian values… so no “hate” here. If you knew anything about Christianity, MOST of us are taught from an early age to “hate the sin, but love the sinner,” on an individual basis, are taught to give generously to charities, that morality does not change with the blowing of the wind, and that the government is useful as long as it remains within its God-given jurisdiction and upholds justice (which Christians also are called to defend). Whether or not someone violates these mores that is personal and individual (you don’t think all Muslims are terrorists do you?). So your “you guys” ad hom attack is fairly silly and cliche. Maybe you should step foot in a church once in a while, and talk to REAL people, you might be surprised at how many of your stereotypes are nothing more than pop-culture fallacies. It is the Christians belief that the GOVERNMENT should be just that leaves the INDIVIDUAL room to be merciful. But, when a GOVERNMENT is unjust, then the INDIVIDUAL must stand up for what’s right and tell that government. Perhaps this comes across to you as “hate,” but it is anything but.

Eric B   December 16th, 2009 - 10:11 am

How is reading the best selling work of literature, in history, not appropriate
for school????? She wasn’t teaching a sermon in front of the class or trying to
get her classmates to build bomb-vests. So forcing your kids to learn about
the perversion of homosexuality is A-OK but don’t you dare read the righteous
word of God during YOUR OWN quite time. Yeah, no bad intentions here folks. As
always the public school system is just lookin out for your kids(wink).

O'Really?   December 16th, 2009 - 10:39 am

Chucky,
I don’t think that most Muslims are terrorists. Quite the contrary, I believe that the overwhelming majority of Muslims are peace-loving and want nothing to do with violence. There are many Christians who regularly post on this site who, while they may proclaim the contrary, DO hate the “sinner” as well as the “sin” when it comes to Islam. All you have to do is read their comments and judge for yourself. I also believe that these people do not represent most Christians; they are just bigoted nut cases.

You are also correct in your observation that Muslims respect and revere Jesus. Historically, they have protected both Christians and Jews whom they consider to be “people of the book”. Their rancor was reserved for the polytheists (infidels) whom they had to contend with when they were vying for control of Mecca early in their history.

Cesspool Czar   December 16th, 2009 - 11:10 am

And the ACLU is where? Nowhere to be found as usual. Now if it was a Koran, well that’s different.

Harry   December 16th, 2009 - 11:11 am

I think the mass media should cover this story as it shows a strong infringement on our First Amendment rights that is going on in schools throughout the country. A public school doesn’t have to teach a certain religion’s point of view, but they can’t stop their students from having one either.

Bill Smith   December 16th, 2009 - 11:31 am

This kind of thing is very widespread among those who call themselves “educators.” They are ignorant of the basic law of our land, or pretending to be so. Teachers like this have to be hammered legally until the educational establishment gets the message that Christianity is not illegal, nor is reading a Bible in designated free time, nor is talking about your faith and beliefs, or writing about them, AND that this kind of harassment will result in serious financial consequences.

There have been many, many cases like this, and there is NO EXCUSE for a school not to make the law crystal clear to its staff. If I’m caught violating a posted speed limit “sorry” won’t cut it. Public schools have repeatedly pulled cr*p like this, censoring God from Valedictorian speeches etc., and it’s long past time to jerk their chain.

O'Really?   December 16th, 2009 - 11:53 am

Actually Eric has the best comment on this story. When I was in high school many years ago we studied the Bible for its literary value, not its religious teachings. Many great writen works refer to Biblical passages. Ignorance of them limits your knowledge of these works.

Andrea   December 16th, 2009 - 11:58 am

Yet the schools bow down to the muslim faith in NY. They actually gave the muslims in NY their own schools so they could practice their faith during school hours. Look it up yourself, should we not be outraged? Our tax dollars furthering a religion that demeans women, makes them second class citizens. The ACLU is stunningly quiet about the muslim schools, why does the ACLU hate CHRISTIANS and their faith. I think it is time that we CHRISTIANS start speaking up, and demanding OUR FAITH be given the same privileges as the muslim faith.

Kevin Jennings   December 16th, 2009 - 12:08 pm

Thems fightin’ words!

You go girl and fight this thing. Why do many public education teachers feel like they have to act that way? Why does it have to go clear to the superintendent before it is stopped? Many people would have been intimidated and not gone any further and told “little Suzy” not to make the teacher unhappy, respect authority and let it go.

Would the teacher have done this if the girl were reading the Koran? Nope. And that has nothing to do with being “anti-Muslim”. It has everything to do with being “anti-Christian”.

Private schools are winning out in the education field. This is just one more example of why.

Commieobamie   December 16th, 2009 - 1:02 pm

We don’t hate the muslim person itself, they also can turn to CHRIST. But this crap about peace loving religion is all lies. Take a look at the atlasshugs site and actually see muslims cutting peoples heads off with knives, raping and mudering women (and men) all in the name of the fairy moon devil allah and his sadistic moohamhead son.

Commieobamie   December 16th, 2009 - 1:04 pm

Sue them lady. It’s time Americans start doing the same thing progressives have been doing for years. If you sue them that will make the other schools think and tell their progressive teachers to keep their mouth shut. We stand with you and it’s a shame this child was made to feel bad for doing nothing wrong. I guess the progressive teacher would have rather the child been reading some of Sec of Education Duncan’s masturbating books?

Seriously though, the people who are carrying out these hateful bigotted ignorant facist attacks on GOD’s Word will continue to get away scott free until the people in charge are afraid of getting sued for millions. So its her duty to sue because her civil rights were violated.
