Nicklaus’ 100 Foot Putt: ‘Pure Frickin Luck’

Jack Nicklaus sank a 100 foot putt at a charity event. The golfing legend was playing in Benton Harbor, Michigan alongside Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Johnny Miller. Nicklaus called the putt "pure frickin' luck"

I could have easily 4 putted that.

bobmc2   August 13th, 2010 - 5:52 am

I think luck has much to do with it, however skill shares an equal amount of credit.

rovers   August 13th, 2010 - 5:52 am

Not entirely luck I'm certain.

4arepublic   August 13th, 2010 - 5:59 am

He is still the greatest golfer ever. 18 Majors- 6 Masters, 5 PGA, 4 US Open and 3 British Open wins over 25 years. Over the same period he finished or tied for second 17 times and finished in the top 10 at least 70 times.

cecil91   August 13th, 2010 - 6:10 am

Good shot. Nice to see Jack and to know he is eating well.

THIMK   August 13th, 2010 - 6:16 am

Jack and Arnie are great ambassadors of the game and their legacy, like Byron Nelson and Payne Stewart. will live long after they are gone. Tiger Woods, on the other hand, will go to his grave knowing he had a chance to be not only the greatest golfer of all time, he could have been an inspiration to millions of young African American boys and girls who desperately need role models other than rap music singers and gangsters.

PS. "rap music" is an oxymoron ;-q

jack doing what jack has always done, making great shots and standing out in the crowd.

TexasStomp   August 13th, 2010 - 6:46 am

Great shot, great golfer, GREAT AMERICAN!

YOU GO, JACK!

mac691   August 13th, 2010 - 6:48 am

Once did an analysis. If you remove the guys with 5 majors who beat Jack, when Jack finished 2nd, he has 34 majors. Tiger isn't in the same league as Jack.

dallenh   August 13th, 2010 - 7:14 am

Don't even compare Tiger to Jack…
Jack is the original and still the best.

JP   August 13th, 2010 - 7:22 am

Magic Jack. You still have it Mr. Dude. Hell, my drives at times don't go that far

cecil91   August 13th, 2010 - 7:35 am

Jack Nicklaus stood for honor, dignity, and decency. These are the traits that good role models are made of. He was good for golf and he was good for America. Woods, on the other hand, is just a good golfer.

_Son_of_Liberty   August 13th, 2010 - 7:42 am

Good for Jack! :-D

Luck is a lot of hard work that is given an opportunity.

Swamp_Thing   August 13th, 2010 - 8:07 am

Just to confirm what has already been said – hard work makes luck and this man is such a class act. He is what Woods pretended to be.

Holdmynose   August 13th, 2010 - 8:10 am

From back when athletes had some class and humility. A gentleman, as is Arnie.

jsazsmitty   August 13th, 2010 - 8:18 am

Now, that is a golfing legend. Humility in triumph. When opting for skill vs luck, opt for skill the luck seems to follow.

NeedABetterName   August 13th, 2010 - 8:32 am

You make your own luck.

NeedABetterName   August 13th, 2010 - 8:34 am

Jack Nicklaus is to Golf what Ronald Reagan is to Conservatism.

NOsheeples   August 13th, 2010 - 8:37 am

I agree. I met him in Portland OR several years ago. He is also a very nice and considerate man, something I cannot say for alot of our up and coming sports figures.

BTW, I have a Tshirt with your cream of crap soup. LOVE IT.

WorldclaZZ   August 13th, 2010 - 8:39 am

Good thing it went in or it would have gone 20 feet past the cup, just like mine always do.

4arepublic   August 13th, 2010 - 8:50 am

I was fortunate to see Nicklaus win his first (as a kid) and sixth Masters. When I met him a few years ago, I asked him for an autograph. He was in a hurry, but asked me for a business card. About a week later I received a framed, autographed photo wishing me well. It has been on the wall in my den ever since. Take good care of that t-shirt and wear it proudly.

JoeDoakes101   August 13th, 2010 - 9:23 am

As a younger man I put the 9 ball in on the first shot while "at class" at ASU. Pure frikken luck.

Chicago Ray   August 13th, 2010 - 9:58 am

Gary Player and others (I think Lincoln said it but a bit different) said this "The harder I work, the luckier I get"

Wish we could trade Nicklaus and Miller and the boys for the Horny assed phony affirmative action Tiger.

JoeKidd   August 13th, 2010 - 10:18 am

"It's in the hole!"

"The Golden Bear" is the greatest golfer evah . . . and an even better man.

SpoonyNickerson   August 13th, 2010 - 10:42 am

SpoonyNickerson   August 13th, 2010 - 10:43 am

Meaningless analysis.

JoeKidd   August 13th, 2010 - 10:52 am

Wow. That's true class, and awesome! Thanks for sharing. I remember that '86 Masters vividly because Jack started way back that Sunday. My dad and I watched him on tv SMOKE that back nine to win. That gallery you were in was cheering him on, and he fed off their energy big time! Must have been amazing to be there — heck, it was amazing to see on tv! Great memories, thanks!

buddha_8   August 13th, 2010 - 11:44 am

Dear Jack:

My surname , like many others, is Frick.

Please STOP the pejorative use of my surname: Frickin.

Say Freaken if you must!! Or maybe Franken!!

THIMK   August 13th, 2010 - 12:12 pm

Well, not really…to name just a few,,,Greg Norman is "The Great White Shark, Craig Stadler is "The Walrus", Ernie Els is the "The Big Easy", Retief Goosen is "The Goose and Jack is the "Golden Bear" not The Lion.

Btw, Monty is a big sissy and Natalie is just plain HOT http://sportsvideo24.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/...

He over cooked that put big time. If it does not hit the cup it goes at least 20 feet past the hole.

Yeah Natalie!!!

Keep Tiger away from her.

Albert Kaidah   August 16th, 2010 - 5:22 am

I was fortunate to see Jack in all of his major victories. Last time I saw him, coming out of a red house in Tokyo, I asked for an autograph but he was busy putting his member in his pants so he asked me for a business card. Lo and behold, one week later, a ten-ton Hum-V arrived at my home, with Jack’s autograph on the bonnet. What a guy. Inside was a 20 year supply of blue pills in a package addressed to Tiger Woods. Guess he forgot to mail that. What a guy, huh, Jack?

I didn't mean that his nickname is "The Lion." I was referring to all pro golfers as the Pride, and Jack as their King. And yes, Natalie is pleasant to look at. =)
