The doughboy is coming off as a flake.

NotKennedy   January 26th, 2012 - 6:02 pm

MmmHmm. Maybe Newt ought move back to Georgia and try living in real life. Whacked.

Bill_Lumbergh   January 26th, 2012 - 6:07 pm

Over $16 TRILLION in debt, and many times more than that in unfunded mandates…oh, I've got it…MOON BASE! Actually, if he'll promise to send Obama, Reid, and Pelosi up there permanently, I'm all for it.

Dagney77   January 26th, 2012 - 6:08 pm

newt looks like he's constipated. He'll be reaching for the stool softerner as soon as he gets off stage.

sheila   January 26th, 2012 - 6:15 pm

And he doubled down on this and defended it by quoting the origin. Kennedy. Moon base, colony, and statehood for the MOON.

Every other day a bigger more insane liberal promise from the guy who Republicans have to oust from office every time he goes off the rails.

Private_Ray   January 26th, 2012 - 6:16 pm

Not much vision in this thread. Pretty apathetic!

Dagney77   January 26th, 2012 - 6:18 pm

Newt's is embarrassing himself with all the pandering. He's on his knees.

NotKennedy   January 26th, 2012 - 6:18 pm

A shovel ready project?

ShawnSen   January 26th, 2012 - 6:27 pm

Newts' idea is great. Science experiments alone would make it worth while. Being able to spy on the world and point shiot at Iran would be great too

It's getting harder to find intelligence on earth.

We can no longer go to the moon. This is a result of internal decay of this country. What happened in the late 60's? The "Civil Rights" movement. Our schools rapidly decayed. Whites had to leave their homes and communities. It is a national disaster people are SCARED to talk about (you think you live in a free country? You don't if you can't speak the obvious.) The scientists who worked on the moonshot were in school in the 40's and 50's. They wore button down shirts and were well mannered. They studied. They had a rewarding community where they could see a productive life ahead of them. All this was shattered with the integration of schools. Almost no real learning goes on in schools these days. I can assure you that one of these students from the 40's and 50's could answer basic math, geometry, and English questions. Go ahead and ask one of the sulking lowlife criminals in our school system that – see what answer you get. Can you build a nation with these people? No.

From Webster's Dictionary…

"Lunacy" – 1. intermittent insanity once believed to be related to phases of the moon. 2. belief that America can colonize the moon in 8 years to make it the 51st state despite $16,000,000,000,000.00 in debt.
"Lunatic, or Loon " – 1. Newt Gingrich

nanoo nanoo, Cosmo-newts!

Iamwitheileen   January 26th, 2012 - 8:21 pm

America…I am as disgusted as any 'real' American…that this fraud of an administration is/has destroyed our space program, and I want it retored.

But CFR Newt is using this fact…that all agree with…is bringing it up for the wrong reasons…to garnish votes and nothing more and it is disgusting!

HE CANNOT WIN!
HE WILL NOT WIN!
HE SHOULD NOT HAVE RUN!

a___voice   January 26th, 2012 - 8:45 pm

15 trillion in debt…The 51st state? Newt is looney.

quite literally.

Newt is absolutely right on this one and it makes sense. America needs projects to feel optimistic and energized about–especially our young people. They need to feel hopeful and purposeful about our country and its goals and ambitions–and they need REAL hope, based on difficult work being done successfullly done and compelling things accomplished, not just vague and empty rhetoric.

Newt is not proposing having the government initiate a new government project–he's talking about taking some of the money we are already pumping into NASA and using it instead to give civilian American engineers and technicians and scientists incentives to come up with innovative commercially and financially feasible projects that use space as a resource. Competitions like that have been effective in the past to bring new ideas and technologies to light and encourage ambition and investment and could do so again.

Inviting competition and forward thinking in the private sector is a great thing and would do a lot toward pulling America out of the horrible malaise Obama has brought us to.

OldmanRick   January 27th, 2012 - 2:12 am

Newt's idea is great. However, we are broke – 16 trillion national debt, a budget deficit of approximately 1.2 – 1.6 trillion annually. That's not taking into consideration our unfunded mandates. Yet, BO has even talked of a mission to Mars.

Funny… Newt will be considered the crazy one by MSM… and our side will fall for it. Laughable…. almost.

Off topic: The dogs woke me up early…. what's your excuse? ;-)
