What? Is he this reporter’s son?? They do look similar.

Mark   November 23rd, 2009 - 12:32 pm

It’s obviously a commentary. No need to insinuate some familial relationship.

Bob Fletcher   November 23rd, 2009 - 12:43 pm

Wow! I have no connection to any of this. Never heard of any of these people. But this looked like real journalism; from a local segment of the lamestream media. That is extremely uncommon. If all was factual, I hope the guy sues the hell out of this screwball school district.

My big question is HOW DOES ONE “UN-RECUSE” THEMSELVES?? If you recuse yourself, it’s obvious that you think that you cannot be impartial… So, why did the board ALLOW them to un-recuse themselves?

DA BEARRRS   November 23rd, 2009 - 5:23 pm

This is what local broadcasting is – or more accurately, was – about.

pepito cojones   November 23rd, 2009 - 7:01 pm

Who gives a flying crap?

testicular man   November 23rd, 2009 - 7:02 pm

frank01   November 23rd, 2009 - 11:36 pm

To those who are dismissing this as a stupid story, try putting yourself in a teacher’s shoes. I am also a band
director. I teach over 500 students every two days, about 70 of whom are in my band. All it takes is one
student with opportunistic or ignorant parents making one false comment to completely ruin a career. And some
teachers do what they are accused of doing. But children are not stupid. They have learned how to retaliate
against a teacher they do not like, and our culture always takes the student’s word first. Being a teacher is
a frightening profession right now.

Jim   November 24th, 2009 - 8:25 am

We are told we have to care for each child as an individual and meet their needs (and we want to), but experience
teaches us to not get close. We should never meet with a child alone. (How do we discuss their needs in private?)
We should never touch a child in any way. (I have children want to give me a hug everyday. They need that. I
am frequently forced to tell that child “no” because of fear for myself. How does that help these children?)
Having personally seen another teacher’s career ruined (by a jilted drum major, ironically) in Illinois and the
vitriol with which the public treated him, I can tell you the affects can be devastating. What was the offense
that caused his firing? He touched the girls hand during class. Her parents also vowed to see him gone before
the incident. Where has common sense gone?

Bill Smith   November 25th, 2009 - 10:06 am

Jim:

Get a book on the Salem Witch trials. The accusers were teenaged girls.

Common sense has never been very common, and everyday people can turn into piranhas very quickly.
